In Thunder's Echo (Legend of the Five Rings Quest)

I suppose that my understanding of the game has let me down. Could you explain the difference?
Called raises are the normal thing. It lets you look at a roll, say "I can do better than that", and make life more difficult for yourself in order to make the result more awesome if you succeed. Calling two raises increases the difficulty by 10 (a bit less than the increase you'd get from having a couple more kept dice) and gives you two raises worth of additional awesome. You can do this as much as you want, any time you have reason to roll for anything.

Free raises are a thing about this *particular* forum game, and this game's version of omake rewards. So far, there are two people who have earned them and not spent them, and they each get to determine where their particular free raise goes. Each can be used once, and each gives the benefit of a raise without the cost.

Free Raises are also gained by some special abilities, and can actually reduce the TN of a roll instead of making the result more awesome.

Actually just one. I have two that I'm sitting on. If someone else hadn't spent a raise on the Investigation, I would have spent one. But yeah, I'm saving them up for a rainy day. I wonder how awesome we would be if we spent two and a Void point on the right action. It does make me dream.

Trust me, it feels as good as you may think it is. You do well in saving them.

Public Service Announcement - I am moving house today, and I have no idea what the Internet is like at my new place. Impending Quest updates may thus be delayed while I get everything sorted.

Your glorious and humble QM thanks you for your patience.

[X] Somewhere in the middle, where you are unlikely to stand out one way or the other

Update - Well, I've arranged for my new place to be connected to the net. However, the engineer can't come by until February 16th. Until then, I'm restricted to a couple of hours a day on a library computer or using my mobile.

Thunder's Echo is thus hereby on hiatus for the next three weeks.

I assume the same applies to Topaz Championship?

No biggie. It's annoying, but not your fault, and you're more inconvenienced by this than we are.

Update
In Haiku, because I am fucking civilized.

Peasants! Your master
