In Thunder's Echo (Legend of the Five Rings Quest)

[X] Respect her apparent desire for privacy and stay away.
-[X] But head to a Temple, offer a prayer to ease her passage and light a candle for her peace in the next life.
-[X] Silently thank the Heavens we were able to discover this plot, and pray it was in time for it to make a difference to others, even if it was not for Doji-san.

So far as we can best determine, they do not want us there. Daidoji Chen thus would not thank us for attending. More to the point, however, Doji Mariko has been laying aside the things of this world in preparation for entering the next. Bringing them back to the forefront of her mind does her absolutely no favors, and may lead to her dishonoring herself. Respect them enough to respect their wishes. She entrusted us with her vengeance, so that she might move on from it, as she has surely been moving on from many other things.

edit: added in @primemountain's add-on, and @Broken25's add-on to that.

Things to consider:

Paranoia:
-If Chen is tainted, or working with people who are, this would be a perfect opportunity to steal or strap Marikos soul.
-Some of its other agents in the city might try something.

Practical:
-The Matsu were saying something to Mariko yesterday after Kakita fell. Some of the more assanine of them might try to distrub them if they are spotted.
-Seeing the jigai would cement the price of the game we play, and likely affect us. Since we plan on getting drunk today and keeping secrets, it might be best if we were not even more emotinaly disturbed.
-We are unsure how big a breach of proper behaviour following and observing them would be.

Conclusion:
[X] Respect her apparent desire for privacy and stay away.

In reverse order.

- Well, the answer to being unsure is an etiquette check. We may not know OOC, but Naoto sure knows IC.
- Why are we planning to get drunk today? Did I miss something?
- The Matsu are all about Honor. They will respect a thing like this. They have the virtues of their vices.
- There is nothing meaningful to disrupt here. Why would the enemy waste resources?
- There are means to do things like that, but I don't know of any that can be applied after death, and they are really quite rare.

That having been said, your write-in plan isn't a bad one. Not sure I agree with it - I'd prefer channeling such thoughts into grim determination - but getting a bit more religious isn't a bad way to move for the character, given recent events.

From the Schedule of the Winter Court:
Schedule of the Winter Court
- 15th Day of the Boar: Winding River Banquet. A formal dinner is held in the gardens, with guests seated around a small stream. Cups of rice wine are floated down the stream on pieces of wood, and samurai are expected to drink these and then recite a poem. This process is repeated until everyone is too drunk to safely continue.
We were ordered to attend. We will be getting drunk unless we want to insult the Matsu. Something to keep in mind.
The Matsu have virtues to their vices, but the enemy wants war between Matsu and Crane. I wonder how big an insult it might be if one of their pawns among the Matsu started something during the jigai, or offered further insult to the Crane with mockery and so. Not saying it is likely, just possible. If anything does happen, it would certanlly furthet strain relations. I just do not want to follow them because we do not need this headache on top of everything, and am judging the risk low enough.

I like the idea of visiting a temple. I think it would help Naoto, and it certanly would not hurt Mariko. We were visited by a Dragon. Maybe the Heavens will hear our prayer that she was a victim of a foul plot. Maybe it will help. It is all the help we can offer now.

We don't need to get drunk, as our friendly Sujenja has a spell that would protect us from alcohol ingestion. A very good proposition, as it also protects against poison.

I am not sure that definition is correct. We have been here for two weeks and have visited a Temple zero times. I do not think it is getting religious, I think it is just practising the Religion he allready has. It's what people do, particularly in trying times. Hope to make some sense of it all.

Winter fades to Spring,
And resolve breaks the darkness.
In sorrow, justice.

I know the vote has been called, but is there any chance we could have a haiku sent to Mariko before the deed is done? Just something that might hint to her that we've already made some progress and that she can at least meet the end knowing we're on the trail of the villains who set her up to die. If we wanted we could probably arrange it pretty quickly anyway, but I'm just curious if you would consider this against etiquette, @Maugan Ra.

May you find peace.
Thanks for our shared time
Observing the stars.

Handing a haiku (or a bunch of haikus) to Mariko would be nice. Maybe through one of the many servants in Shiro Matsu? She and Chen would know it was us who has sent those, though.

Again, I assert that this is going about things wrong. Trying to connect with her now will only make it harder for her to give up the things of this world. That is not a kindness. It is something that we ourselves might find reassuring, but that should not be what this is about.

Now, writing some haiku, and burning them in her memory - that's the sort of thing that might do her more good than harm. Make them as offerings that might make their way to her *after* she has died, rather than errant thoughts that might distract her beforehand.

Beyond that... Loyalty is a thing, and people are watching. Going all maudlin about the Crane looks bad. Yes, *we* know that we're blaming the shadowy forces that set this whole thing up, but as far as the rest of the court is concerned, she was, in effect, executed by the righteous actions of Matsu Heijiko. The more we tie ourselves to her, the more we degrade our relations with the Lion - and we get absolutely nothing back for it. We are Scorpion, and like good Scorpion, it is time for us to kill our heart and move on.

Our heart won't be killed until the one who killed waifu loses their laifu as well.

Point taken, none the less. The only thing we must do is move on and use this as experience to grow stronger.

Oh no, we're going to find the mastermind and kill their everything too! Or a suitably killable middle manager if the ultimate one turns out to be a god or something
A bit of focus on quiet, Scorpion revenge against those who did this is reasonable and acceptable. They are almost certainly enemies of the Empire, and therefore enemies of the Scorpion Clan. Being open about our emotions, however, does not well serve either us or the Clan, and should be avoided. We are Scorpion. We are *better* than that.
