We've already offered what support we could earlier when we passed along that Heijiko was training. Now we have to stand by our clan.

Bayushis imput will be interesting and I don't want to start this all over again with accepting and refusing duels.
 
You really want to stand next to Doji when Kakita is in a duel to the death? You really want to distract him in the middle of it? Or did that not cross anyones mind?

That is both an excellent point and I'd love to hear Bayushi-sama's commentary on the fight.

Way I see it, we got two options, the safe one, and the risky one. And only one of those lets us be immediatly useful if needed. Standing with the Scorpion is the safe action, but also one that gives up initiative. Whatever happens amongst the Matsu we will not be ready for it as we will not be there to see it coming. We can react, and coordinate, but not predict and prevent. We will also be constrained by Bayusis need to keep her game going on.

I think it is worth the risk, to make sure something unfortunate does not happen with beserkers watching one of their own die, as well as for the chances it grants us.

EDIT: You know it is one thing to pretend to be an honorable Scorpion, but quite another to suck at being a dishonorable one. We have no training in poisons(Medicine) or stealth. At best we can practise temptation. We are lucky our supperiors saw our speficic skills and found a place where we could use them effectively.

Stands out less. Also a show of neutrality lets us continue to play the (dis)honest broker between Lion and Crane.

"Why hello there various Matsu personages. Note how I, the same Scorpion who was going to duel to the death for that Crane over there, the Crane I've spent all Winter Court snuggling, am standing with my fellow Scorpions, thus proving I have No Strong Feelings re: the Cranes."

There are legitimate reasons to stand with our own Clan. This is not one of them.

I think the main reason we're not standing with the Cranes is because the guy dueling needs absolute focus to pull off his Kakita duelling bullshit, and being absolutely livid because he spotted his love rival (aka us) getting close to his crush in the audience is not conductive to that.

We kind of sorta need him to win after all.

That would be one of the legitimate reasons, yes. :)

I mean, say Kakita wins the duel. Would that mean Doji would be safe until the next time she delivers an insult?
Say Kakita loses, how does the whole sepuku thing go from there?
It is difficult to plan further when we do not know what happens after.
