So, out of curiosity, what are people expecting the heirloom to do? I expected a lot more people to want to take the safe route.

*nods sagely*
Who knows, not me, I just figured that it couldn't hurt, was in character, and might do something at least interesting.

Edit: It's kind of a case of Chekhov's heriloom. Chekhov has an heirloom so he has to shoot someone with it right? At least that's how I understand it.

[X] Try to ignore the crowd watching your every move.
-[X] Focus on Jeanne's hand instead. It feels nice.

You carefully shove the crowd around you out of your mind, focusing on Jeanne's hand instead. She saw you panicking and made an active attempt to try and comfort you. She's not hostile, yet. She's even acting rather nice. Without other people to poiso- turn her against you, there's a chance you could be friends with her. Maybe. Or at least part on amicable terms before she can learn to hate you.

--[X] Just take a few deep breaths and try to calm down.

You close your eyes and take several deep breaths. Sticks and stones may break your bones, but words will never- okay, that's a lie. They hurt too, and in your experience, the latter all too often seems to lead to the former being thrown as well.

"Feeling all better?" Jeanne asks, squeezing your hand gently. It isn't as comforting as she intended; you can feel the strength behind her grip and know that, if she wanted to, she could crush your bones to dust.

"Yes." you lie.

-[X] Focus on why you came here: finding out what you need to decide whether or not you want to become a magical girl.

You divert some of your focus from Jeanne to your close goals. You hate your current lifestyle. Something needs to change; even if you don't decide to become a magical girl yourself, maybe you'll find something else you could do. Something fun. Something that won't involve people staring at you.

Now much calmer, you open your eyes and give Jeanne a weak smile.

-[X] Ask her what kinds of magic the other magical girls in the city have and/or what roles they fill.

"Unfortunately, we don't really fight together as much as we used to. There are just too many witches to stick together; even if we can kill a witch more than three times faster while we're teamed up, finding them still takes quite a bit of time. But to answer your question..."

She raises one arm and a glowing green bow drops into her waiting hand. It's the exact same shade as her eyes.

"I'm our long-ranged support and overwatch. It's my job to watch over my teammates, ensure nothing sneaks up on them, and generally interfere with the efforts of the enemy. Kae- Radiant Dawn is our healer and primary DPS. In combat, she blasts the enemy with giant laser beams. Out of combat, she heals us of any injuries we may have sustained. Oh, and she sometimes heals normals in exchange for large amounts of money, which she shares with me and Cloudseeker.

"Cloudseeker is new. She only joined us three months ago, after our old teammate moved to Osaka. She's our tank, although that's not to say she just stands there and takes hits. A lot of witches have piercing attacks which can ignore armor, so that's a really bad idea. She uses thin air as a jumping platform and repeatedly hits the enemy with a giant sledgehammer. She's quite good at keeping their attention off the rest of us."

She pauses and glances at a nearby clock. You catch the slightest flicker of a smirk cross her face before her regal demeanor reasserts itself.
LOCATE/SEEK/DETECT
"Speaking of magic and what we do... there's a witch a block or two away from here. Last I checked, it was still focused on constructing its barrier and making familiars, so it shouldn't be too difficult to kill. Would you like to come along and watch?"

[] You'll gladly take eldritch horrors over other people any day. Go with her.
-[] Keep hoping that she could actually become your friend. It's been a long time since you were invited to do anything.
-[] Remain as far back as possible while keeping her within line-of-sight.
-[] Stay right next to her.

[] Decline her offer and go elsewhere. That doesn't seem particularly safe.
-[] Go back to the orphanage.
-[] Go buy an armful of stuffed animals.
-[] Wander around aimlessly for a while.
--[] Buy whatever looks interesting.

[] Write-in

The vote for Jade's last name is still going.
Wow. Lots of updates today. :V

So, out of curiosity, what are y'all expecting the heirloom to do? I expected a lot more people to want to take the safe route.
Something. Urge us to action, give another jolt to the fire that's in our blood and bone, spur another flashback to Dear Ol' Demolition Dad teaching us a dynamite magic trick, just... something interesting. And if being inside a witch's Barrier gives us another shot of bad vibes, well, that's one more tally IC against contracting, if we'd be expected to deal with that regularly.

Our mana sensitivity seems pretty high, actually - we felt the red from our amulet, the black from the Grief Seed, the Blue from Jeanne's search spell - we might be able to get some use out of adding an item about straining every sense to find any hint of the witch as Jeanne leads us to it, or for Familiars lurking inside the barrier.

[X] Bandwagon

I hope our heirloom rewrites reality every time it's used to make Kyubey throw up his intestines, Black Mage style.

I... don't quite get it.

We sense this bad juju from witches and grief seeds - things we're supposed to handle every week, possibly day - and we'd want to contract more because of that?

I don't think a teenage girl with some serious issues (that may or may not involve abandonment issues and phobia of spicy food) would particularly feel like feeling nauseous while saving the ungrateful masses. Perhaps you'd be able to play the "hoping for people to treat us as someone with emotions," but we seem to have a tendency for darker thoughts.

Edit: And the picture we're getting from Jeanne isn't pretty about the MG lifestyle.

Magical girls gain innate resistance/immunity to the bad juju.
If it makes you feel bad, make it not.

Do we know that IC?

Brain's addled from math exercise; please remind me when this was mentioned in canon. Was it when Mami gave the MG tour for Madoka and Sayaka?

I'm assuming the heirloom gives us a life back when we cast a red spell, like most lucky charms.

Kind of would rather not go immediately into witch hunting with kyubes on our shoulder, because that's how you get pressured into contracting and we're a scared girl with no friends who's been offered a friend who will also pressure us into contracting to help her out.

How about politely declining her offer? It seems to be worth the effort. You never know if we're polite or not, so it's a good idea.

Forget that noise. Let's go punch out a Witch with only the strength of our hotbloodedness. Everyone knows that a single punch by a hotblooded person can stop anything in its' tracks.

I'm fine with either outcome, because being hotblooded is cool, but I think you're banking really hard on us getting access to a red spell the first time we enter combat instead of like, getting Kissed or attacked by familiars or something.

Notice how she's not really DPS or tank? I'm sure she'll do an okay job protecting us but I'm not so sure she's used to guarding dead weight civilians, which we probably will be.

Actually the heirloom thing was an afterthought. I was more thinking that I wanted to follow the plot and see where it went.

I knew Sage Dice were contagious, like a band of freedom fighters rebelling against the cruel dice gods!

:D

Did I say they were good rolls? I don't think I did.

What plot? :V

I don't really make plots, I build simulations. The latter actually manages to survive initial contact with the players. :p

...Except when they manage to turn the resident Skynet into a new sister. That took some fixing. Seriously, what the hell, SV? :lol:rofl:

Best case scenario. Witch attacks us and almost kills us causing Jeane to hit maximum grief at the thought of being powerless to save us and witches out and her barrier's interaction with the Witch's barrier causes it to shatter allowing us to flee while they have some kind of grudge match therefore letting us know about people "Witching out."
