Hey @Alivaril? what about doing a numbered priority vote? the vote counter is able to tally preference voting just as easily as first past the post voting (within a single list of singular options anyway), and it would give people a chance to pick what they want instead of voting strategically.

Go for it. I currently have to count by hand and/or rely on the tallies of other people anyway. :V

This is the most amazing thing I have ever seen. Quest voting-wise, anyway. Even better than hidden multivote.

hey peoples! the QM has spoken! we can now vote by priority, this means that you can pick all of the options for gems, and then by putting a number in the box instead of an X (lower numbers having higher priority), to order them by which one you want to win. this way, you can both choose what you want, and downvote what you hate, so that in the end the best compromise will be chosen between everyone`s votes!

EDIT:

sorry for the post and delete, I had a couple sets of quotes set up wrong, so not everyone was getting tagged properly (at least, I don't think they were getting tagged right...).

EDIT*2:

Oi! if you want to vote for something other than just the gems, you're going to want to throw that in too! the counter only checks your latest post, so don't forget to grab your old stuff when you throw up your priority!

Now I'm forced to prioritize White!

Graaaaaah!

Holding it helps you realize how utterly insignificant other people are. Their opinions are invalid and should only be heeded if doing so would somehow benefit you. The world is a dark and ugly place; other people don't help you, so why should you help them?

EDIT: Apparently, people want to do priority voting for the heirlooms. So you don't have to, but if you have a favorite option, a least favorite, etc., look right below this post for an example.

Eeh... actually, not using a priority makes things a lot harder for me to count them, since the tally program lists votes and rankings separately. I can't merge an X vote into a number vote, and the specific algorithm it works on would be a pain to count by hand. even if they want to vote for fewer than 5 things, or even just one thing, ranking the boxes (or putting a one in their only box) instead of an X will make things as simple as copy-pasting a tally, while otherwise you or I (yes, I'm volunteering, this was my mad scheme in the first place) would have to go back through and figure it out with math.

EDIT:

it's why I went to the trouble of quoting everyone, to get them to switch over to a priority. if they don't switch, we can see about @ tagging them later, since a 5 second edit by them will save us several minutes of vote counting.

Oh. I was planning on just doing it myself, by hand, but if you're volunteering anyway, I'll edit.

Thank you!

Okay, as much as I love science and research, I should point out that Blue has the least combat utility of pretty much any color. White has substantially more, especially buffing ourselves and allies, and along with red also tends to lead towards equipment.

If we're thinking of wishing for Utility, we should choose our color based on combat, I think.

Edit: Especially if our utiliy wish is learning faster, or something. We could get Blue and that and double down, but I think we'd end up very squishy.

The most important factor here, by far, is personality. What kind of character do you want to spend this entire quest reading about? Compared to that, combat doesn't matter at all.

I'd still kind of prefer White or Red for that, since those are basically hope and strong emotions. For a magical girl that's a good combination, and Blue seems like it's going to reinforce being shy and isolated.

As I'm blue-green myself, those are my preferences. Red might be fun though. I hate black, so paying as a lack individual is going to be tough as I'm no longer going t want to win.

The whole animal aspect of green makes it seem very disconnected to me. Red symbolises strong emotions, whilst blue symbolises logic. I feel that having both of those in some measure is the best path. As for white, while I definitely prefer it to black (not a fan of playing a self centred kinda person), I'm not someone who likes the idea of self sacrifice. Initial Emiya Syndrome holds very little appeal to me.
IDK how it actually works though, this is just my initial thoughts from looking at the quotes.

White's less about self sacrifice and more about community? So while White taken to extremes can be the whole "needs of the many" thing, it usually is more about having lots of friends and buffing them and so on. White and Green are the colors that get easy fast token generation, and the ones that throw around enchantments that buff whole armies.

Green, while partly about creatures and nature, is also about Growth and life in general. It's likely that if we went for Green exclusively we'd get minions and animal companions, but we'd also get auras that buff ourselves or combat tricks like Giant Growth. Harder to say what it would mean personality wise, though. In combinations, Blue and Green tends to be like, about manipulating life and growth. Mad scientists focused on creatures in the same way Blue and Red tend to be science focused on energy (time travel technically falls under UR, or has in the past).

Also I think Alivaril mentioned shifting the color pie around, a bit, so all of this might be wrong. Not sure how to check.

Green is actually the second most community-oriented color, after white. It exemplifies what is "natural," so ecosystems, acceptance of an assigned role, etc. are the 'white' portions of green. Though you are also in a way correct, like everything involving the MtG color pie, because green is also the color closest to the Asian-influenced stereotype of a hermit meditating on the nature of the world.

Red-blue as a combination is the color of most mad science: intuitive leaps of deduction, hunches, various energy and water related manipulations, etc.

I think Alivaril's interpretation of black is turned around, so I'm not the greatest fan. Black's first tenet is to improve, and the pursuit of power and selfishness is derived from that, IMO. But that's arguing the chicken and the egg, so kind of pointless.

Picking a color doesn't mean that's your entire personality - SV will mix any of the colors with blue due to voting tendencies to avoid risks, gather information, and investigate every plot hook, for example, unless the votebase makes a special effort not to.

Oi! if you want to vote for something other than just the gems, you're going to want to throw that in too! the counter only checks your latest post, so don't forget to grab your old stuff when you throw up your priority!

I appear to have been mistaken. rank priorities and votes seem to be counted separately. this is leading to odd looking double votes in the count, where someone who's already been counted for rank is still shown to vote for a gem. if you're ranking your stuff, and already voted before, please either cross out the gem in the old vote, or add your old vote minus the gem to the rank post, either one will fix this problem.

it's not a big issue, it just means that if there are any gem votes left at the end, I'll need to double check them against the rank list to make sure they haven't been already counted.

I like Green myself, due to the aesthetics and all. After that would have to be White or Blue. Note that I have never actually played the game and am thus not the best judge. I just happen to find myself reading up on mtg occasionally, whether due to a quest or a fic.

0.6: A Good Night's Sleep
[X] Go to sleep.

You yawn, blinking blearily at the clock displayed on your computer screen. 9:45; if you stay up much longer, you might not even remember anything else you look at. Time to go to sleep. It's not like you won't be able to do everything else in the morning.

You bookmark MGN, shut the computer down, stumble into to your bed, and promptly fall unconscious.

You find yourself in an endless black void, devoid of anything and everything. Taste, touch, sound, sight, smell... none of them give you any feedback, any information on how to navigate the void.

Despite the sheer emptiness all around you, you have the distinct feeling you aren't alone. Something else is in here. Something alien, uncaring, and very, very hungry. It hasn't noticed you yet, but you have the feeling that it's only a matter of time. If you can't get out of the void, it will devour you.

You try to run, to hide, but where can you hide in an endless sea of nothing? Where can you run when the threat is simultaneously everywhere and nowhere? You're stuck attempting a futile method of escape while it gets closer and closer...

You wake up screaming. It takes you several minutes to stop shaking, during which time you are very, very glad the walls of the orphanage are sound-proofed. The caretakers didn't want new arrivals keeping the other children awake with their crying. Although you aren't exactly new, it looks like you're going to be benefiting from their chosen building design anyway.

You continue lying in bed for several minutes, ignoring the sunshine streaming through your bedroom window. You consider trying to go back to sleep, but your stomach decides to submit a verbal complaint in response to that thought. Magical girl candidate or not, you do need food to continue functioning. Time doesn't stop just because your mind decided that you really needed a nightmare.

[] Remain huddled in bed and try to ignore the lingering memory of the void staring back at you.

[] Go downstairs and eat breakfast. Some of the other kids should be waking up right about now, but you still need to eat.
-[] Head back to your room if some of them start acting cruel once again.
-[] Try to actually talk to some of the recent arrivals. Maybe you could actually make a friend...?

[] Grab some food and immediately retreat back to your room. You've tried making friends with some of the other children before; it always ends horribly. Even when it looks like you start to succeed, they just turn on you later.

[] Continue doing research on magical girls.
-[] What topics? (write-in)

[] Hop on to MGN's chat and say hello.
-[] Username? (Write-in; Wishmaker if left blank)
-[] Ask them some questions. (Write-in)

---[] Don't mention your problems with loneliness. That's your business and is kinda embarrassing to admit...

[] Call Jeanne.
-[] Ask her some questions? (write-in)
-[] Explain that Kyubey approached you.
--[] ...But don't go into specifics about your situation.

[] Send Jeanne a message on MGN.
-[] It won't be as quick, but at least you'll be able to avoid saying the wrong thing and messing everything up.
-[] Ask her some questions? (write-in)
-[] Explain that Kyubey approached you.

EDIT: It only just occurred to me that it may be best to hold off on further story posts until after character creation is done. It's rather hard to make decisions without a personality to operate from.

Whoopsie?

This chapter felt really rather "meh" to me. Sorry about that.
