Harry Potter and the Skittering Spouse

Yikes. The way Taylor handled the Dursleys was ruthless as hell.

gold."
To me it felt kind of cringy, she told them she can make bugs dance and than literally made bugs dance? They attack and she hit them back.

That wasn't ruthless, this was a weird back and forth, she should have just gone to beating up Vernon when he start calling them freaks if she wanted to beat him, she had no real way to know he would try to hit her if she made bugs dance and it was weird besides.

Very curious about kreachers eventual attitude. Sirious was a disappointment because of his attitude, but from my memory Taylor very much has a Black disposition. With her nebulous magicalness I wonder if her acting like a Black will be enough to win him over

*Are you sure you're not a Black?*

Taylor listened to Harry tell the story of fifth year quietly, asking a few questions to clarify issues she didn't understand.

When he was done she considered the story for a few minutes and then acted to close the biggest remaining security issue she saw.

She asked Harry three questions and then called for Kreacher.

"Mud mistress calls for Kreacher?"

"I did. You will listen to me, heed me and remember my rules. Harry has already turned the control of any house elves house Potter or Black have to me as lady of the house. I know, and you know what you did last year. I will be blunt here, so there is no misunderstanding me. You will follow my rules and commands to the letter and the spirit; if you try to weasel out of my commands, my bugs will eat you. If you ever betray Harry, myself or any guest of house Potter or Black, I will not kill you, I will not give you clothes. I will however, give you over to a extremely muggle family, one with two wizard muggleborn children for the rest of your life. When you die in that case, your body will be thrown in a muggle dump.

On the other hand, if you perform your duties as behooves a Black Elf, on that day that you no longer work, I will remove your head personally, to be mounted with the rest.

Do you understand what I have told you?"

Kreacher stared at her for a long minute and then nodded slowly. "Mistress is certain she is not a Black?"

"Not as far as I know, no. Why?"

"Kreacher thinks that Mistress would have made a fine Black."

"There you are to spy on all the terrorist in training and report any information to me"

I was more thinking of spying on Dumbledore. Taylor doesn't trust anyone yet, and Harry's living conditions were questionable at best for his importance.

Remember, Taylor highly distrusts legitimate authority because of her past experiences, especially with the PRT, and Dumbledore hasn't given her enough of a reason to believe him, especially with all the secret keeping.

Fair enough. Spy on everything and everyone. We need to know whom to stab Kreature

Man Taylor's got her work cut out for her, Harry still has a blind trust in authority for no reason. That will evidently take a while to fix, not to mention he and Taylor need some real training.

You don't pout a knife at someone to threaten them, if you draw a blade keep it close to you body till it needs to be used. Far harder for an opponent to grab, or keep it in a pocket/concealed until you surprise the enemy with it. Physical fights favor speed, brutality, and violence of action, something Taylor got right with the baton.

Eh. It read to me like the "wanna see some bugs dance?" bit was meant as a distraction to get her close enough to attack as well as provoke him so she would be defending herself rather than attacking from nowhere.

@Fencer Great chapter! It looks like Taylor is thinking of bringing Kreacher to her side.

The entirely forced nature of half the drama in it. Voldemort being around in a body before the start of year 1 was meh and extremely odd, but the Sorting Hat forcibly and against her wishes putting Taylor, a known Muggleborn, into Slytherin? That set up a majority of the drama for purely drama's sake, and broke pretty much one of the few hard rules of the setting (that being you can ask the Hat to go to any House and it'll comply as long as it won't be bad for you). Then the entire Scion at the end bullshit was just bizarre. All in all it was a supremely disappointing Fic. I regret even reading it.

Well you are not wrong about some things but since it was pretty much explained in story that Taylor was not even sure she was Taylor and not just a magical construct shoved into a girl's body via wild magic. I just like to believe that Magic reached out in response to a wish, made a defender for the planet and picked the best tool for the job it could get its hands on. Magic gives no shits about your issues its got its own rules that we dont have the manual on.

But I dont regret reading it, I enjoyed it but everyone has the right to an opinion as long as its not pure bashing for bashing sake you make some good points.

Loving this so far hope you have fun writing it.

The truly telling bit was that her hands had disappeared into her pockets, no doubt to get a good grip on whatever weapons she thought might serve her best.

Probably the knife. She seemed to like the knife… maybe the pepper spray? There were a lot of people here and with that she could try and sweep the whole group.
He already knows her so well. ;)

I enjoyed Harry's part more, Taylor taking on Vernon feels too much like punching down.

Fudge felt a bit strange... Finding dignity now that the end of his political career is at hand? Interesting idea.

Taylor vs Vernon… it sort of had to happen, but there was no good way to do it. He was going to scream and shout and she was never going to take that from the bastard. She's stressed tired and "alone". Harry is her only tentative ally, and it's easy points with him. Yeah it was definitely punching down as you put it and she's not really thrilled about it but a broken nose from skitter? Not sure she could go much lighter.

Honestly Fudge is just… forget dignity, this was a last desperate hope for saving his job and even he knew it was a waste of time.

She glared at Dumbledore for a moment before relenting.

"Miss Potter-"
Even if this is a British vs American English thing, Taylor should be objecting to being called "Miss Potter".
A "Miss" is an unmarried woman using her maiden name. Mrs. is a married woman using her husband's name. Miz aka Ms. is the ambiguous title that can go either way. It was intended for use by widows who no longer have a husband that are "back on the market" for dating or divorced women who keep using their married name instead of going back to their maiden name (along with Miss), but unmarried women can choose to use it as well.
A final use for Ms. which is not appropriate in this case but is fairly common is for when you know the woman's name but not her marital status. In which case you can (and probably should) address her as "Ms." just to be safe.
Also note that I haven't seen Miz written out like that since I was in elementary school, I've only seen "Ms." in the "real world". Also the elementary school I went to when they taught that lesson was only marginally better than Winslow from Worm, in that it was better funded but the people were as bad or worse. Real life Snape and Umbridge worked there in the mid to late '80s, although the individuals I'm thinking of were more of a composite.

At least that's how I learned it in American English, which Taylor, daughter of an English professor would know.

In fact, the entire Ministry is going to push her buttons; as with the sole exception of Amelia Bones, I don't think we see a single effective Ministry official.
Actually we do, but they are mostly minor functionaries. As in the lower ranks that actually get the work done.
Also there was Percy Weasley, who wound up covering for Barty Crouch during a good portion of the TWT despite being a fresh hire too junior and young to be in that position.
Recall that the accidental magic reversal squad in book 3 was effective for example, as were the proctors for the OWLs. Also the guy from the Ministry that taught apparation.
It was the leadership that was incompetent. Political appointees put in charge.

I'm surprised that Taylor missed the obvious order of not communicating any information he has learned with known or suspected death eaters or their families and allies.

I think she's going to call on him sooner rather than later to ask some questions of him, and she did look like she was going to suggest a different solution to handling Kreacher, but it looks like she's going to wait on that in order to let Harry grieve for a bit more time. She'll probably talk to Harry about Kreacher and other things sometime soonish after they reach the Burrow, assuming Molly and Ginny don't instantly piss Taylor off by going on off on her and Harry. Which sadly likely.

Actually, Ms is pronounced "Miz" which is a leetle bit different from "miss," if only in the final phoneme.

This was how I said it, the "Miz" pronunciation. Something I remember back in elementary school. Weird how I can't recall ever needing to use it past that.

So if it is said differently, it might be regional?

I'm going to be honest here, I don't mind people pointing out errors for me to fix, but this was a bit ridiculous. For future reference quoting the sentence and then commenting "should have been ______" is more than enough.
