Yeah, that's probably the weakest episode of GX.

As for the cape thing, it's because Maria has grown as a person and no longer feels the need to hide behind a façade.

Except she's lost the most powerful aspect of her Gugnir in the process. Clearly we need to keep the wielders at a very specific level of traumatization for maximum efficiency.:V

Oh hey, it's Shirabe and Kirika's last-season duet in the episode title. I wonder who the episode will center around.
The Posers really did a number on Hibiki. She's been out for a week.
Oh hey, Lydian has more than one teacher now.
Yep, they're repairing the Gears. Unfortunately, due to maintenance, they're publicly doing it. Poser attack in three, two, one...
...Bluewing's father has turned up! He's apparently good at cutting through red tape, so Commander called a favor in.
Assorted chemistry stuff. I smell Flashback no Jutsu.
Carol's father may presumably be a decent alchemist, but he's a horrid cook.
...Why is Elfnein getting the Carol flashbacks? At least Elfnein's wondering that, too.
Aaand here's the Poser attack. They're attacking the power supply. Y'know, the one Hibiki's on.
...Those two are stealing their Gears from NERV, aren't they?
Why are you in the medical room? Yuribait-wait, are your Gears stored there?
Good news: Alca-Noise are vunerable to conventional weaponary. Bad news: They're still a one-hit kill. I think.
Shirabe seems to have gained yoyos since last season, along with a weaponised dress. Poser Red, hello there.
It's back to G6's flashbacks with Hibiki. This time, with added fatherly abandonment.
She's taking Gugnir's destruction much better than I thought she would. Also, shiptease.
Ooooh. The medical room trip was to shoot up on drugs.
Most of the other Posers have finished destroying power, and the Destroy Everything/Record Everything plan is about to launch. Oh, and Poser Red is attacking.
...I think Elfnein finished the Gears to an acceptable standard. Meanwhile, the Duo prepare to do more drugs.
...Is this the S3 version of Edge Works? And with that "Gain this high should be plenty" line, I think we're getting another Sen-I-Soshitsu.
That Double Rider Kick backfired. They went directly into a giant bomb.
There goes the power. Not good. Swiftly followed by the expected Igalima Lost.
They've outlived their usefulness. Shirabe is the only one standing between them and DEAAATH.
And the Gear is damaged. DEAAAATH imminent-
-And the Noise all have holes in them. I believe that would be an Ichival Interrupt, correct?
And there the episode ends. This isn't the normal credits music.
Ah, a duet between Bluewing and Chris? "First shoot, second shoot more, third fourth who cares". Typical Chris.
Once again, the duet Just Loving X-Edge is readable in the credits. What's suprising is what I assume is this other duet being readable, Bayonet Charge.

Yes, those are in fact the titles of the two duets.

Like it's predecessor, Just Loving X-Edge is a mashup of this season's individual songs for Kirika and Shirabe.

And yes, the yuribait was extremely strong this episode. They went as far as having Kirika's reaction to Shirabe saying that she doesn't want to let other people see her embarrassing sides have a background filled with white lilies.

Not starting with that cliffhanger? I smell flashbacks.
I assume Elfnein is recieving Carol memories again. How did she get entirely the wrong message from her father's death, again?
Wait, no, that was actual Carol. Is Poser Red getting backup?
And Maria tries to protect the modesty of those Sen-I-Soshitsu'd. Heh. Hibiki's being covered too.
Bayonet Charge sounds more strained in actual use than it was in the credits. Like Bluewing and Chris are feeling strain from this.
Ah, their power got boosted along with the Sen-I-Soshitsu protections. That'd explain it; they're not quite used to the higher output.
Carol's AT Field interrupts Bayonet Charge's attempt to cross-slash/missile Poser Red. Noise are back to mooks, though.
Wait, Carol's fighting?! I don't think this'll be good for the fighters.
...She has a harp. And from the chatter at base, it's a Noble PhantasmComplete Relic.
Faust Robe? Am I going to have to look up technobabble? Either way, the Relic's name is Dur da Bla. I assume it's Irish.
Damnit, they commissioned Kill la Kill for the transformations again-
...Did she just age herself up? What the hell, is this a function of the Relic she's wearing like Fine wore hers?
Apparently bows are whips now. Is Bluewing talking about the age or the boobs?
And more innuendo. I think it's the subbers inserting this in, or is Crunchyroll subs like this too?
The Posers and Carol burn memory for power. Given how long Caro;'s been around, that's a lot of power to burn on fuckhueg beams like that.
Bayonet Charge aren't doing well-WHY THE HELL DOES CAROL HAVE GIGA DRILL BREAK?!
And they incorporated the Dainslef fragments into the refit! The Gear can now be taken off and WHY DID IT JUST STAB HER THROUGH THE HEART?!
Those shadows don't look good-Wait, Berserker Mode is an actual function of the Symphogear?! Did they just give everyone Berserker Mode?! That's why the shadows seemed familiar.
Dainslef, as a cursed blade, draws out the DARKNEESSSS and forcibly induces Berserker Mode. Given it's supposed to be controllable, I suspect it's not quite as potent as Hibiki's version. My initial Kingdom Hearts joke with Commander returns to haunt me.
Goddamnit Mr Wing. You are what's known as a dick. DARKNESSSSS apparently involves flashback no jutsu.
...And Dream Redwing just got sliced in half by Bluewing. Apparently "I am the bone of my sword" is a literal metaphor in the realm of DARKNESSSS.
This may have been a mistake. Bayonet Charge is headed straight for a trip to the Berserker Class.
Back to the realm of DARKNESSSS with Chris. She's beating herself up over X-Edge busting themselves out.
And apparently, Bluewing had enough control to grab Chris. That's given them enough of a shock to escape Flashback no Jutsu.
Unfortunately, without Berserker Mode, they're about to be stomped by Carol again-
...Gugnir? If they've upgraded it like the others, then it's a weaker berserk mode than the one Hibiki managed to exert some control of back in S1's finale. If I'm remembering correctly, this is actually a decent idea.
Oh yay, the Noise aircraft carriers are back. Fuck civilian-targeting villians.
I repeat: Fuck civilian-targeting villians. Hurry up and apply fist to face, Hibiki.
Thank you Hibiki and NERV's missile launchers. Someone remembered Alca-Noise are actually vunerable to conventional weapons.
And with the help of the person who's been through this already, the other two manage to successfully stab themselves into the darker, edgier forms. Hello, Radiant Force Dubstep Mode.
Ah, Edge Mode has a timelimit. Smart move.
We've gone from dubstep to rock. These mooks are dead.
....That's lewd, Carol. Fansubs again?
...Did Hibiki just set herself on fire to counter Carol's Giga Drill?!
IT JUST BURNT OFF MOST OF CAROL'S CLOTHING!?!
[RIDER KICK].
With that finisher, Carol seems to have reverted, ready to retreat-wait, is that blood? Carol really took a Hibiki-brand beating.
....Carol just set her battered body on fire to, basically, say "Drown in your ideals and die" to Hibiki. Hibiki really must've got under her skin.
And Carol's death seems to have activated something in her home base, with the Posers still around. This isn't anywhere near over yet. Especially since we're only halfway through and we're yet to see Maria get her OP's Symphogear.
The ending song seems more relevant than normal, given Carol's Fuck You.
Ah, Radiant Guitairstep is "Ignited Arragement" of the normal one.

Ahahaha, this is the episode where the series gets a bit DBZ power-levelly. This isn't a bad thing, per se, but it's just something I've noticed. The final battle for this series may make that a bit more clear.

...She has a harp. And from the chatter at base, it's a Noble PhantasmComplete Relic.
Faust Robe? Am I going to have to look up technobabble? Either way, the Relic's name is Dur da Bla. I assume it's Irish.

It's the harp of an Irish god called The Dagda. And can I take a moment to say how nice it is to have a Relic be used that's actually a musical instrument? Carol may not sing, but the thematics are still there, unlike with Fine and Dr. Ver. I suspect that if she sang, she'd be at least an order of magnitude more dangerous, but I digress.

Actually, no, let's stay on here for a second. We have three series villains so far - Fine, Dr. Ver, and Carol. All of them are Relic-users to a degree - Fine and Carol wear theirs, though Fine fused with hers while Carol's is closer to Symphogears in function, and Dr. Ver straight up fused himself with a living one Dr. Mareau style. And yet, despite this, none of them sing when they fight - that's something that's reserved for our Symphogear users, who are all ultimately good guys. It's interesting to think about, what with the reoccurring subtext of singing as understanding people - it's like the villains are, for whatever reason, not able to understand other people and know why what they're doing is bad.

Food for thought, I guess.

And they incorporated the Dainslef fragments into the refit! The Gear can now be taken off and WHY DID IT JUST STAB HER THROUGH THE HEART?!

I've always wondered what a straight Dainslef gear would look like. Edgy diamonds and black on black, probably.

Those shadows don't look good-Wait, Berserker Mode is an actual function of the Symphogear?! Did they just give everyone Berserker Mode?! That's why the shadows seemed familiar.

I really like that they used continuity for this rather than making up some new form or power. It's a nice touch. And yes, everyone is Hibizerker now!

And with the help of the person who's been through this already, the other two manage to successfully stab themselves into the darker, edgier forms. Hello, Radiant Force Dubstep Mode.

Yeah, I like how Hibiki has absolutely zero issues with controlling the Ignite Mode, because she's already done that basically - she probably went through that every time she went Berserk back in S1 and S2.

....Carol just set her battered body on fire to, basically, say "Drown in your ideals and die" to Hibiki. Hibiki really must've got under her skin.

She ded. BUT WHO WILL BE THE NEW VILLAIN TO TAKE HER PLACE? DUN DUN DUN.....

Ah, Radiant Guitairstep is "Ignited Arragement" of the normal one.

Yeah, we're going to get a lot of Ignited remixes in the next couple of episodes.

We told you this episode was hype as fuck!

Yes, that Irish harp is a Complete Relic.

Carol's innuendo is NOT a fansub thing, that's real.

The in episode version of Bayonet Charge sounds different because the songs are rerecorded for fight scenes, with the regular dialog mixed in, while looking at and initiating the onscreen footage, so it sounds like the characters are actually the ones singing. This is true for ALL battle songs in Symphogear!

Yes, Carol does indeed have a Giga Drill Break :V

Spirals round hey parts too, given the opening shows the complete Dainslef. I'd also want a nod to Dainslef requiring to draw blood before sheathing, IIRC.
She ded. BUT WHO WILL BE THE NEW VILLAIN TO TAKE HER PLACE? DUN DUN DUN.....
"Awaken my minions"
Posers ain't dead. I suspect they'll be continuing Carol's plan in light of her death.

I was referring to the next innuendo from Chris and Housing more so.

It's interesting to think about, what with the reoccurring subtext of singing as understanding people - it's like the villains are, for whatever reason, not able to understand other people and know why what they're doing is bad.

Let me rephrase that last bit, because I think I didn't word it well. Singing as a way to understand people has been a recurring thing in the series and is pretty much Hibiki's main shtick (albeit in a very Nanoha-esque fashion of using it to beat the shit out of people first). The songs the Symphogear users sing are come all but literally from their heart, and thus by singing them and using them to fight, they open themselves up to their opponents, creating a bond that can grow into friendships.

Meanwhile our villains aren't singing. They aren't opening themselves up to other people, and they aren't forming any bonds on a real emotional level. For whatever reason, consciously or unconsciously (Fine I think just didn't think like that due to how long she'd been around, Dr. Ver takes the phrase "self-centered egomaniac" to new levels, and Carol....well, you'll see, but unlike the previous two hers is clearly a conscious one) they are rejecting the notion of connecting with and trying to talk with people.

Oh hey, S2 flashbacks with a piano version of Maria's Gugnir theme. Fuck you Ver.
...Swimsuits? What the hell do those have to do with Maria Wants Strength?
It's been some time since last episode's Carol death. Elfnein's fixed and upgraded the remaining Symphogears...including Serena's old one, which Maria's inheriting.
...Apparently, this season's Commander Training is messing around at the beach. I...don't really get it.
Meanwhile, people have started reverse-engineering stuff from Frontier. Manager's being shown GLOWING SPHERE OF EARTH MAP.
Apparently, beach volleyball is Serious Business. Everyone's wiped out from it.
...Cut-ins of everyone. For rock-paper-scissors. This is being taken way too seriously.
Looks like it's the old standby of X-Edge buying stuff, with Bluewing supervising.
Oh dear. Giant ice shards destroying everything. I smell Posers around.
And just as Elfnein's getting worried at the lack of actual training, in comes Poser Blue!
Teleport spam is apparently the counter for More Dakka. Hibiki's not doing the best either.
Goddamit adults, listen to the person who's saved the world twice. Looks like Bluewing is stuck protecting the kids.
Oh damnit Poser Blue's going for Maria. Time for Argetlam to be busted out again.
...Did Poser Blue basically just call Maria a faker? Presumably due to having Gugnir last time.
[CROSS-COUNTER]. Fittingly for the silver arm, it seems to have empowered her fist just before transformation.
And apparently, the single fist-thing contains a ton of knives. They presumably form the whip-sword of the opening.
Except they're being used as knives. Don't think Maria's actually used this since the fix.
There's the whipsword. Which apparently homes freely, rather than listening to physics.
...Does Poser Blue want Maria to stab herself for power?
...Oh dear. Maria failed to control her edge. Now she's in Berserker Mode.
While it presumably gives more power, the issue with berserkering is that sufficient skill can dodge it. As Poser Blue is doing.
Poser definitely wants Edge Mode. And Edge Mode specifically, rather than Berserker.
And BerserMaria's down in one strike. That went well.
Poser Blue apparently wants to be the best of the Posers. What does she want to be the first to do, however? First to break an Edge Mode pendant?
Damnit Maria. Did you even listen to your own song?
...Point. Maria knows it in her heart what true strength is, she's just not admitting it to herself. Hello Blue.
...Poser Green has invisibility? And she's using it to infiltrate? Unfortunately, Manager's a ninja, he's onto her.
Damnit Manager, trust your ninja instincts.
POSER used ICY WATER! MARIA was frozen! Maria is suffering inferiority issues again!
And Maria finally stops lying to herself. And that's what lets her assume Edge Mode.
A teleport deals with being cut in half, and an AT Field stops the next attack. Except the field just broke.
And a rocketslice slays Poser Blue. Who wanted to be the first...to die? What the hell?
All goes according to keikaku. Poser Green has that mapsphere data.
...Japan has weird flavors for everything.
Wait, why does Random Adult from earlier know Miku-Wait, he's Hibiki's dad?

Also, this is the moment when Maria goes full Signum Yagami.

Long pink hair, older than the rest of the cast, wields a sword that splits into a physics-defying whip, and can cast triangular energy shield spells.

[CROSS-COUNTER]. Fittingly for the silver arm, it seems to have empowered her fist just before transformation.

I wonder if it'd let her punch Noise pre-transformation, like Hibiki did last season.

...Oh dear. Maria failed to control her edge. Now she's in Berserker Mode.

It's nice to see someone fuck up the Ignite transformation, especially since she didn't have anyone there to help her pull out like Tsubasa and Chris did. It gives the power-up more weight, I think.

...Point. Maria knows it in her heart what true strength is, she's just not admitting it to herself. Hello Blue.
And Maria finally stops lying to herself. And that's what lets her assume Edge Mode.

Maria's development in this season revolves around trying to come to terms with the actions she did last season, and who she saw herself as then. She doesn't want to be that person, and has generally been attempting to deny the part of her that did that, going "that's not me", "I can't let that be me" sorta thing. What helps her here is that thanks to Elfnein, she realizes that it doesn't matter - she'll always be that person, and trying to shove them away is just denying who she really is. She learns to accept herself for who she is and so can try to move on.

Eh. That's just how I see it, I guess.

And a rocketslice slays Poser Blue. Who wanted to be the first...to die? What the hell?

There will be zero villains left by the end of the show, and the big finale will be a murder mystery wrap-up where they solve the "why"s of the season.

Wait, why does Random Adult from earlier know Miku-Wait, he's Hibiki's dad?

Ah! Best Dad makes his appearance at last! I can't wait to see what you think of him.

...Did I miss an episode? Hibiki's talking about having faced her dad already?
No, Crunchyroll agrees. We're starting after and flashing back, aren't we?
And a meeting with the Dad. Apparently, he, along with the rest of the world, saw the S2 ending, and that apparently got him drifting back closer to where he used to live.
Ah, he couldn't take the what the fuck Japan and ran away. Not good on the parenting standards side of thing, but somewhat understandable, given what the fuck Japan.
Hibiki, similarly understandably, hasn't forgiven him. Not the best track to go down, Dad.
 I don't think leaving Hibiki with the bill is going to help. At all.
Ah, Glowing Map was one of Ley Lines. And the villains have it. Fuck.
Meanwhile, X-Edge speculate on how they can avoid Berserkering with Dainslef. Let's throw them a Poser attack.
Oh dear. Hibiki's doubting herself. Doubt that'll help.
Poser Red is messing with the power. Unfortunately, Hibiki's more focused on the hurt from her Dad, and that means she can be baited.
Aaand Fire Blast with Hibiki unable to sing. Damnit Japan. Shirabe's holding it off as long as she can.
And that's the Symphogears down. Given the damage to the area, I think that's a faliure.
Ah, Manager spotted the actual Poser target. Meanwhile in the hospital, X-edge are arguing.
Tears for everyone! With Dad having run away, Hibiki had to weather the what the fuck Japan alone. That's why she can't forgive him.
And NERV's running low on Linker. That's great for X-Edge.
While NERV discuss the powerlines, X-Edge are out walking and still in an argument. Perfect time for Poser Red to attack.
...More Posers are attacking NERV, aren't they? No backup for Shirabe.
Oh, it's Poser Yellow's Stand. Holding the submarine underwater for Red to attack the others in peace.
Aaand Kirika charges ahead and is surrounded by crystals. Red has spelled out what they need to do.
Shirabe's blocking again. There's either going to be another argument or a makeup.
...It took you this long to realise that others care when you get hurt?
Ah, Stab Yourself For Power time. This going to result in another dead Poser?
....Apparently, Poser Red also went Super Saiyan. It's either Nono or Aoko she's reminding me of, apperancewise.
Crystal Pillar Spam isn't going well for X-Edge-wait, a slingshot technique?
No, it's slingshotting from both sides for an Execution.
Heh. Kirika is looking up the definition for "Responsibility".
Alright, whatever the Poser's plan is, it seems to rely on them dying. That's presumably why Carol killed hersel-WHAT THE HELL CAROL WHAT ARE YOU DOING ALIVE?! PEOPLE DIE WHEN THEY ARE KILLED.
....Waaaait a second. Was she just looking through Elfnein's eyes?
