Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

As an aside, it's sort of weird that Jane's parents are lumping dyslexia in with "silly modern psychology". Sure that particular position isn't terribly rational in the first place, but dyslexia has been getting diagnosed under one name or another since as early as 1881.

Keep in mind you are hearing this from the PoV of an 11 year old recounting the conversation of a ten year old with their parents.

Maybe they don't want to admit that there is an actual medical issue behind the problems that their daughter is having as opposed to them just being 'lazy', or just don't want to admit that they were wrong in their judgement?

TonedMite has it exactly right. These are likely the type of parents who would be outraged at your insinuation that they produced "defective" spawn. The problem could never be with their genetics and it just their stupid kid being lazy and needing a good dose of Protestant Worth Ethic to fix all issues (Protestant Work Ethic might or might not involve continual beatings and harassment until grades improve)

Incidentally False Springs Beckon (•••) (favored) would allow Molly to suppress the effects of dyslexia. Mercy in Servitude would also work if she was a creature of darkness.

Vote will close in the morning, the next update is going to introduce anew character as well as reveal some background stuff and I do not want to rush the world-building.

QUESTION
1)We spent 1AP in the turn plan on moneymaking
Did that happen offscreen?

2)You did say we get the opportunity to ask some Crown questions in between turns/in downtime.
Does that still hold true?
Because I have a list to follow up on....

EDIT

I do not think anyone with working eyes themselves would mistake the Crown of Eyes for an angelic halo. :V
You might be surprised.
Pertinent: Book of Ezekiel chapter 18
I looked, and I saw the likeness of a throne of sapphire [1] above the expanse that was over the heads of the cherubim.

2The LORD said to the man clothed in linen, "Go in among the wheels beneath the cherubim. Fill your hands with burning coals from among the cherubim and scatter them over the city." And as I watched, he went in.

3Now the cherubim were standing on the south side of the temple when the man went in, and a cloud filled the inner court.

4Then the glory of the LORD rose from above the cherubim and moved to the threshold of the temple. The cloud filled the temple, and the court was full of the radiance of the glory of the LORD.

5The sound of the wings of the cherubim could be heard as far away as the outer court, like the voice of God Almighty [2] when he speaks.

6When the LORD commanded the man in linen, "Take fire from among the wheels, from among the cherubim," the man went in and stood beside a wheel.

7Then one of the cherubim reached out his hand to the fire that was among them. He took up some of it and put it into the hands of the man in linen, who took it and went out.

8(Under the wings of the cherubim could be seen what looked like the hands of a man.)

9I looked, and I saw beside the cherubim four wheels, one beside each of the cherubim; the wheels sparkled like chrysolite.

10As for their appearance, the four of them looked alike; each was like a wheel intersecting a wheel.

11As they moved, they would go in any one of the four directions the cherubim faced; the wheels did not turn about [3] as the cherubim went. The cherubim went in whatever direction the head faced, without turning as they went.

12Their entire bodies, including their backs, their hands and their wings, were completely full of eyes, as were their four wheels.

13I heard the wheels being called "the whirling wheels."

14Each of the cherubim had four faces: One face was that of a cherub, the second the face of a man, the third the face of a lion, and the fourth the face of an eagle.

15Then the cherubim rose upward. These were the living creatures I had seen by the Kebar River.

16When the cherubim moved, the wheels beside them moved; and when the cherubim spread their wings to rise from the ground, the wheels did not leave their side.

17When the cherubim stood still, they also stood still; and when the cherubim rose, they rose with them, because the spirit of the living creatures was in them.

18Then the glory of the LORD departed from over the threshold of the temple and stopped above the cherubim.

19While I watched, the cherubim spread their wings and rose from the ground, and as they went, the wheels went with them. They stopped at the entrance to the east gate of the LORD's house, and the glory of the God of Israel was above them.

20These were the living creatures I had seen beneath the God of Israel by the Kebar River, and I realized that they were cherubim.

21Each had four faces and four wings, and under their wings was what looked like the hands of a man.

22Their faces had the same appearance as those I had seen by the Kebar River. Each one went straight ahead.
Any person who is familiar with Judeo-Christian scripture and sees Molly's aura for the first time?
Might well have....thoughts.

  1. That was you making the diamonds at the start of the turn, it did not go that well, but it was also literally the first time you tried it. Now that you have some money of your own and a place to put a laboratory with the Jade Dogs we can get to more details next turn
  2. Sure, once you have this conversation you can ask questions of the Crown

Uhm, we made them with the remaining Days of the last turn for Black Rider. In Arc 4 Post 3: A Girl's Best Friend.

Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files) Crossover - Fantasy

A Girl's Best Friend 27st of July 2006 A.D. "Clippy look up what a CLS Class Mercedes is worth I want to see what I'm working with here..." It's a Thursday so there is no one in the house in the morning other than dad and Hank so you can just talk to your electronic assistant without creeping...

Then we voted to make more in Arc 4 Post 9: Of Debt and Duty

Well damn, not sure how I missed that.

We are going to cover the action in the last three days of the month then.

Sure, once you have this conversation you can ask questions of the Crown
Excellent.

Looking forward to dumping a couple kilograms of FL-grade diamonds in Thomas lap and seeing his reactions
What format would you prefer? List of questions and possibly foci for each?
Also, just checking - is Molly a creationist or does she believe in evolution?
She's a Catholic. What do you think?
Catholic ideology does not consider creationism and evolution to be incompatible.

Molly believes that God was behind the Big Bang, and from then on He influenced the world though Miracles great and small in a way that in no way contradicts geological or fossil evidence, that is also the mainstream position of the Catholic Church on the matter.

Where does the majestic platypus come into this equation? :V

Dexterity 4.
Craft 3(-1 because jewelcrafting not mechanics).
Excellency 6 or 7(depending on how you calculate the craft non-specialty penalty).
Without Honor +2 dice(Molly used Tool Constructs to pile blocks of dry ice inside the lab)
Stunt +2 dice.
Boiling Sea Mastery -1DC(from pouring antifreeze on herself/using an antifreeze soaked sweater to stay wet)

Thats 16 or 17 dice at ~DC5. With Tool Constructs active.
Given that Craft is a Key ability, she is going to average north of 10 successes on that diamond Crafting roll.
Might be worth looking at buying another Crafting specialty when we buy Craft 4.

Woodworking might be very useful for us if we go with Lydia using Command the Dead. Making large number of wood-based golems, essentially, of all kind of shape and form, from insect-based bullets, to the Luggage, to unfoldable war machines. Transportation (for Black Rider, making Lydia a car, any future submarines we ever make, and a secret underground subway system linked to the Last Station hub) could be interesting, as well as Architecture. An out there option would be "computers", I think. TTC allows us to make custom computer chips and the like. We could probably get a lot out of it if we synergy them with cyberdevils.

Realistically, any long-term crafting in safe locations should be done with CCC active. There's no reason not to.

We definitely want to move Alchemy up there, and make it Alchemy 2, unless some order of cauldron member or Harry can make no-sleep potion. We need more AP rather badly. Command the Dead should be moved up too - with dead plant matter (ie wood) being allowed to be animated, way too many options become available. Incidentally, Michael's mundane profession becomes relevant, as he might be commissioned to make stuff like carved wooden soldiers, or, hell, making the Luggage. In fact, Lydia could probably do a very mean Susan Sto Helit cosplay. I wonder if that's intentional.

In preparation for Mab, I fully think that we should discard Drive, Cyberdevil 3, 2nd Ox Body, Windborn Stride from the current list of priorities. Technology excellency has to stay due to our obligations to remake the Dragon's Nest.
Using the energy drink thing in emergencies? Sure.
Using it for attempting to get more AP? Nope. Do remember the history of the girl who we are playing, and precisely what got her friends in trouble. Lifestyle drugs are unlikely to happen.

Michael's a carpenter, later housing contractor IIRC.
Not a woodcarver. Those are two pretty different things as far as Im aware. Not to mention he has a job.
Molly should be able to make anything necessary anyway.
Granted... I feel the same about lack of expression and performance dots. A infernal that can't dance, smh.
Dance falls under both Athletics and Performance.
Possibly Expression.
But since Molly has Dex 4 + Athletics 1, she's a serviceable dancer.

Not great, but that will come once we get back to working on her Athletics.
Bet you Jane's parents would shape up real quick if we have Alicia gaslight them with TTC grade official looking pamphlets on 'late onset dyslexia' then zap them with a few weeks of symptoms. They're idiots who don't trust doctors, so we can come up with whatever lie we want to about why they'll go into remission but their daughter will need regular treatment.
As an aside, it's sort of weird that Jane's parents are lumping dyslexia in with "silly modern psychology". Sure that particular position isn't terribly rational in the first place, but dyslexia has been getting diagnosed under one name or another since as early as 1881.
Its a lot harder to convince people of medical disorders that can be conflated with normal childhood behaviors.
And developmental disorders with a neurological basis are easy to overlook or deny.
Furthermore, things are complicated by personal and cultural experience.

If she's black? Large sections of the US African American community has a distrust of the medical community.
Not to mention that over-medicalization of grade-school kids and teenagers is an accusation that has some backing in the medical literature, especially for ADHD.

Of course, we ARE taking the word of an eleven year old that this is dyslexia. Leech isnt an educational psychologist or pediatric neurologist. Could be dyslexia and dyscalculia. Could be hearing or vision problems.
Could be something else altogether.

Jumping to a lot of conclusions here, my dude.

For one thing, this is a Catholic charter school. Most(not all, but most) are going to be Catholics. No Protestant Work Ethic here.
The fact that she's here and didnt default to public school means some effort was put into h.
And other than the alleged dyslexia, nobody seems to be under the impression her parents are anything other than loving.

For another, dyslexia is not entirely genetic. Environmental factors are a thing. So is trauma.

Parents are people. They're not infallible, they make mistakes, they miss things, and they have prejudices and biases.
But most(not all, but most) mean well for their children.
Dont jump to conclusions based on a thirdhand impression from an eleven year old.

A couple portable things she can stuff in a cheap backpack? Sure. War machines no.
Mechanics covers everything in the transportation area, all the way up to largescale projects.
Jewelmaking/Jewelry? Clothes? Fashion? Cooking?
Realistically, any long-term crafting in safe locations should be done with CCC active. There's no reason not to.
Quite apart from my personal distaste for attempts to cheese CCC?

We are trying to make top-quality diamonds that dont stand out from other top-quality diamonds.
Stacking extraordinary succesess can result in diamonds that are too good to be sold, because they draw attention to the seller and questions about the source.

Not everything requires plus ultra levels of effort.

Fair point, but it's still worth noting that dyslexia and ADHD have different histories and different reputations.

It's possible that the game of telephone here dropped a few key details, but the fact that they appear to have summarily dismissed the issue is sort of concerning.

A lot of schools will have their special ed teachers trained in doing some basic screenings for stuff like this, which would be a reasonable first step to determining if there's anything to it.

Even if there are reasons for it appearing not to bother when your kid is struggling isn't a great look.

- I am not convinced it works for Molly's build.

Lydia is a polyglot at 16 who has been travelling all her life.
Molls is a weeb who, besides English, only learned some Latin and Japanese in canon after most of a decade of magical education.
And right now, she has cyberdevils to help with translation.

My two cents.
I'm thinking less for the multilingual element, but more for the three extra dice in multiple forms of communication.
