Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

So long as we are the ones firing the harpoon guns they do aggravated damage meaning they are the most dangerous weapons in the lake.

[X]STUNT: Your father thumps the packages down on the sand by the left of your workspace. "Rope, safety goggles, rubber hose, chemsticks." As a robotic arm immediately grabs for the rubber hose, on the other side he drops his second burden. "Ten gallon can of gas. Everything I could get out of Walmart." "Great" you reply. "I've already built and filled the air bottles and regulators, so give me another ten minutes and I should be done with the rest of the diving gear. Then we can gas her up"He looks along the shoreline to where Lydia is fending off curious ghosts from the beached glacial ice-boat she insists on calling Argo. "What engine did you end up putting in that thing?" he asks bemusedly. "Turbine. Easier to build, and less likely to fail if a warlock waggles its fingers at it."

RATIONALE
Ice floats on water, and ice boats are a real thing; Project Habbakuk did have some prototypes IIRC, and some Finnish dude achieved minor Internet celebrity for hacking one out of ice earlier this year IIRC.
So Molly can use the freshwater to build a boat of ice to carry her out to where the buoy is.

This also has the twin benefits of
1)Having a significantly thicker hull than a normal boat, which presents more protection against enemy fire, which might be a thing if the opposition actually has hostiles, like summoned entities or animated constructs, patrolling outside their base
2)Mostly melting by midday, leaving little evidence of anything.

Might also be faster to build, depending on what technological way she's using to freeze water fast.

Drive ice boat out to buoy and tie it up. Hang a couple glowsticks off boat sides underwater as beacon.
Then Molly goes over the side with rope tied to the boat or life buoy and tries to find the base entrance. Find it, tie the rope to near the entrance, mark the spot with glowsticks and have it be used as a guide rope to help Michael and Lydia down.

Whether or not the air bottles will be necessary depends on how long we need to look for the entrance.
Molly can fly by sheer will, so she isnt exerting herself swimming, and under those circumstances, a bottle of compressed air can last over an hour at 20m depth.

Which might also be useful if the inside of the base is not entirely unflooded.

Submersibles are cool, though.
Maybe I should add something about equipping weaponry to it? Improving a harpoon gun should be easy. And/or equipping it with an HMP. Or would that be overkill?
How do you target it?
You should worry more about the potential for a guard to break the hull of your submersible and make it flood.

It doesn't work like that, because of terminal velocity.
Terminal velocity is not a factor at distances of around 20 metres.
And calculating terminal velocity underwater is a lot more difficult than in the air to boot.

If this was above water, and Molly was at the top of a 20-something meter building?
With the only considerations being the acceleration of gravity and air resistance, Molly would be at the bottom of in 1-3 seconds even without actively flying.

In air. In water it absolutely is.

Fair point. By orienting the boat itself.

Again, fair, and easily remedied.

[X] Try to cobble together a submersible out of scrap, you've come too far to give up now
-[X] Have you cyberdevils look for designs of small submersibles to prepare a simplest possible design for you while you are looking for scrap to reuse in the construction.
-[X] Use excellency: Crafts (Mechanics)
-[X] Stunt: "Well, we are in an amusement park. Let's go for a ride, shall we?" you ask your companions, before venturing out to gather everything you need. And it's surprising what you can find. A Flying Turns sled, one large enough that you could sit in your father's lap comfortably and there would be place left for Lydia, to serve as basis for the machine. Helium gas bottles from old air balloon kiosks. Windows from a burned down dance hall. Wiring from various places. As you look at the gathered scrap, and concentrate, multiple robotic manipulators spring into existence around you, ready to follow the design you based on what your faithful electronic minions found. The sled is covered in metal sheets, welded together, the gas bottles are renovated and made into both an air supply system and emergency thrust, a long length of hose and some plastic bottles becoming individual air supply channels in case of hull breach. Pieces of broken windows are heated, and then reformed into portholes. An old roller coaster engine is given new life and a serious tune up to drives the propellers, freshly made from a pair of old weather vanes through a series of newly cut gears. A complicated mechanical steering system takes shape from random pipes and chains. A pair of gas powered harpoon guns, fashioned from some pieces of rebar, guy-wire and yet another gas bottle take place at the front . In the end, the only thing left to your companions is to decide on the paintjob.

Uh, uju? I'm pretty sure the hardware store is closed. It's late at night and the only stuff open is going to be stuff like Walmart. That's why the other option was to come back with equipment in the morning. You're going to have to rewrite your plan and stunt to take that into account.

Gas bottles from old air balloon kiosks and pneumatics from roller coasters, cables from guy wires, breathing masks from old soda bottles, hoses from roller coasters and gas balloon kiosks. There's also a trailer park we might find something in. But we aren't likely to find a hardware store working right now.

Here is a question about prince of ruin attitude. If someone burned a book and we got the ashes could we then read that book by using prince of ruin attitude?

Yeah we are getting towards 10 PM, unless someone knows of some kind of hardware store that stays open late (I am not an expert in US store policy) I'd day that they are all closed.

That is not really a tool so you cannot recover it like that. Prince of Ruin Attitude also requires the thing you are using to be broken, not completely destroyed. so for instance if you got a broken phone you could make it work, but if one had been crushed to powder you could not talk to the dust. As a general rule something has to be recognizable as itself for the charm to apply. So a car that has been sitting in a scrapyard for 50 years with no wheels, it's still car shaped go for it.

How about a CD that's been broken into shards and Magnetized?

Just in case you were ruling off the top of your head.

Prince off Ruin Attitude (•) One day the Infernal will rule over a broken world, yet she still expects its shattered remnants to serve her, and serve her well. Her magic forces the world to live up to that expectation. System: When the Infernal attempts to use a broken or nonfunctional tool, object, or vehicle, she may make a reflexive Appearance + Technology roll against difficulty 6. For the rest of the scene, success forces a dulled and broken sword to cut as though it were sharp and intact, a junked car to run as if it were new, or a rotted old tent to keep out the rain as if it were whole.

Object is a fairly board category. The ash bit still stands. Could it work if the book was still recognizable as a book? Like say all the pages are burned, but the covers are still intact.

Prince of Ruin attitude is not only for tools. It specifies " tool, object, or vehicle". And the examples given are a broken sword, a junked car and a rotten tent. All physical objects, but not all tools. There's also a question of what "non-functional" means as opposed to broken. I listed by thoughts about the possible cheese for it and some other charms here. If you have time at some point, I'd be grateful to hear your thoughts.

For Prince of Ruin Attitude I am specifically wondering if it works to generate fuel and ammunition ex-nihilo. I mean, if we take a junked car, it obviously has no fuel. So, would PoRA generate it? And, if so, would it also work on a new car with an empty tank?

There's some stores that would be open, although that's more of a case by case type of thing.

I think either Lowes or Home Depot tried experimenting with 24 hour stores in the early 2000s, but it didn't get them a good return. Not enough people wanting to buy hardware during the graveyard shift to justify it. Especially as online ordering got more and more popular.

Closest thing would be a Walmart or something.

I'm going to say yes it can name fuel and ammunition, but it cannot make things that could never work function. Otherwise you guys would be flying around in a giant paper airplane and that does not seem like the intent of the charm. As for recovering books and manuscripts I am inclined to nix that because it would be a bit too powerful as intel gathering goes . I do not want investigations into obscure and esoteric lore to end with you finding a piece of parchment and using one charm once to remake the book it came from. Fluff wise the reason that would not work is because the charm would restore the book... but not the content. The charm does work to recover data off say a broken CD because it is a Wicked City charm and has a special affinity to high technology.

OK then I'm going to give Michael a roll (INT+Investigation) to find one if you guys go that route. If he fails he'll default to wallmart

Why wasn't Endless Torment Emanation about the first charm we every got? There are so many clearly evil organizations in this world. Red Court, black council, etc. Most of them we would have little problem finding an agent and having a talk with them them.

Ah, meta. If we got the charm there is about no way to justify in character with our current knowledge not using it on the winter court in which case the world likely ends in short order.

Endless Torment Emanation doesn't cover everything that an organization does. It is very broad, and if you know all broad priorities and projects we prolly could nail the entire [Supernatural Faction of Choice], but not with a single use. For as long as it takes them to figure out where we are and drop their everything on killing Molly, at least.

Anyway, a lot of decisions back then have to do with a combination of short-term survival being a priority and a low level of system mastery. See: Kakuri and Lanka being our key-hells, us deciding that getting Ancient Sorcery Merit was important, and us having zero dots in a bunch of things.

Still not actually a bad build, but it sure wasn't as optimized as it could be.

In air. In water it absolutely is.
Not for a human being. Apparently drag is that much more of a factor underwater.
The only sources that gave hard numbers were talking about spherical, regular shaped objects, and they seemed to settle on a number on the order of 5m/second.

Which, you'll notice, is about two thirds higher than the 3m/s figure I used in my hypothetical.

:checks again:
All of them are also available at the hardware section of Walmart, which is usually 24 hours.
I'll just edit that.
Thanks.

We left the nursing home around 5PM, and Molly spent 2 hours in the bleach bath. An hour for everyone else to clean up.
An hour combined driving from the nursing home to the hotel and then to the beach.
So while it might be approaching 10PM now, Michael would have gone to the stores around 9PM

QUESTION
Did we just forget to call Harry, or did we call and he was out?

Ah... it was actually me forgetting that, sorry. It will be in the next update so you have the info before you go down in the lake.

Point of order:
The Ancient Sorcery Merit IS important.
Sapphire Circle Banishment makes it worthwhile all on its own.

I will admit low system mastery was certainly in play though, especially with regards to the Attribute spread.
But that happens.

Gonna note that the ghosts here have exhibited a proprietary attitude towards this place.
Grabbing trash sure.
You probably dont want to further cannibalize the remains of the facility though.

Yeah, it is theoretically incredibly convenient, to be able to just learn it instead of having to adventure for it. But three-four arcs in the quest, I feel that maybe just deciding to adventure for it later could have been better.

And yeah, it isn't really a big deal. We are doing fine, now.

Endless Torment Emanation doesn't cover everything that an organization does.
I mean, it targets a certain project. It's actually not directed against an organization. It's aimed against a goal:
System: The character can spend 3 Essence to tar-
get a specific office or project with terrible inefficiency
for the rest of the current story. Everyone involved in
pushing the project forward increases the difficulty of

all rolls to do so by +2. Additionally, if there's a cen-
tral location for the targeted bureau or project, it be-
comes a place of spiritual desolation while the Charm
remains in effect.
So, I think, if we use it on "red Court's War against White Council", it wouldn't just affect Red Court. It would also affect all the allies of Red Court vampires. Summoned Outsiders, red court thralls, etc. Everyone as long as they were persecuting said war.

We could probably use it against an organization too. Not sure if it would stack.
The only sources that gave hard numbers were talking about spherical, regular shaped objects, and they seemed to settle on a number on the order of 5m/second.
This seems a bit high, as this korean paper gives 7-8 m/s for a multi-ton anchor.

Fair point, but I feel we could leave the submarine for people to find. A new urban legend is a nice compensation. And/or we could spend an hour or two repairing the amusement park afterwards.
