"What did you see at Soul's Rest?" you ask into the ether. Obedient to your will an image forms in the mind's eye and the silent wind bears words to your ear.
An vision of a party on a lake, a bunch of people having fun, Green Day's Holiday blaring out of speakers and probably more beer in evidence than is entirely fair or legal to be drinking before driving a boat. Soul's Rest looms black on the bank, a colonial era behemoth in s sea of neatly packed suburbs. You might have thought it abandoned except for the tinny lights peering out of the windows at the upper floors. Fred hardly pays it any mind and no more than a shiver of unease passes at the back of his neck. This party is lit. There's a lot more people waiting on the shore than he's used to and most of the newcomers seem single and ready to mingle as well or at least so he hopes.

"Da.. darn!" you sort of half-curse before explaining what little you had seen. "He didn't see anything, he barely noticed the place. I think I may have asked the wrong question."
Dad looks at you sympathetically. "That is still one more thing than I could have found out on my own and now we know what it was not. The poor man did not see anything particularly wrong. Perhaps they were concerned at what others might see on the today or tomorrow. The next stage should have been about now."
"Orr..." Lydia interjects. "Someone
else noticed something off and the Pathfinders did not want to kill
that guy because it would have drawn too much attention. Like if he had gone home and told his girlfriend 'there is Cthulhu in the lake' and then he had a stroke out of the blue she might have thought to look into that Cthulhu thing on the occult side of town, something could have leaked. but if it it some
other guy that died and got the whole thing canceled..."
"Then it's still a dead end.. maybe we can look at who filed that complaint. It's probably the Pathfinders guy in the inside..." You check, it does not take Clippy long. "The director of Soul's Rest. Yeah I think that counts as guy on the inside. Doctor Markus Niemi, that is who we have to pay a visit to, maybe
skip the pleasantries." You crack your knuckles for emphasis
For his part dad nods, but he looks distracted by something. "You said the party on the shore seemed more lively than it should have been? Maybe you were closer than you knew this morning. Perhaps the noise, people mingling and having fun was distracting those within somehow. I may not know much of sorcery, but I have
been the distraction enough times to know just how dangerous it can be."
"Wait a second... dreams,, they are doing something with the dreams of sleepers and that thing. It's not in the water, or a least not just in the water, it is in a part of the Spirit World that can be accessed in dreams so what happens if they wake up unexpectedly...?" That does not sound quite right.
You reach out with mind, with will with Essence towards the strange word you had found in the depths of the vision, raksha. They would not be distracted by mere noise and tumult they who could see music and hear the sundering of hearts and souls, but the emanations of so many passions: ambition, desire mirth and joy. "That would be really distracting wouldn't it?"

It is only after you say it that you realize that you had spoken aloud. "I think they are trying to... modulate the emotions of the people at the home for some purpose and the race was getting in the way. That would explain the dreamless sleep, it resets the state of mind so you can get someone to feel the same thing over and over again without any hardening or... fracturing, at least if one nightmare is not enough to do the latter."
