Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

The FCF multi attack is nice, and in terms of essence burden it trades the requirement to have minions around for the ability to be significantly more mote-efficient than the alternatives.
Really? That seems entirely dependant on how PSP is used. That isn't my read of it at all.
I believe that Proxy Servant Protocol will cause problems due to how it encourages paranoia essence spending and aiming for 'perfect' instead of 'adequate' results in every team combat encounter at the cost of making them all more expensive which will increase the effectiveness of mote draining tactics being used on us by a noticeable degree and decrease our combat power during back to back combat heavy time sensitive Arcs if we end up in fights with not enough essence to spare to activate our normal combat suit because we kept using PSP to get maximum results out of party members during every combat scene when it wasn't necessarily needed and they've made do without such before now.

In the most recent Arc we ended up starting a fight with the final boss with 2 motes without this sort of Charm being passively used. Scenes were said way earlier to last 15 min by the GM. It's only because the GM was being rather generous that our Shintai and scene long excellencies were still in effect by the time we had to fight him.

Hopefully if we end up with PSP spam becoming a staple of party combat going forward Violence is Worship will handle the increased drain so that we can still afford our normal combat effects and the like in back to back no regen time in between time sensitive combat Arcs.

Otherwise this could become a deeply unpleasant experience if it ties up our essence.

To be fair to him he just got the news that Harry Dresden has the magical equivalent of nukes.
Worse, he has nukes except he knows nothing of how they work, what safeguards may or may not exist, or how many/which factions care about him that didn't before. The island is also the source of one hell of a leyline, tied to some really nasty places in the Nevernever, and potentially even more stuff given that it was made by Merlin.Dresden is also blind to almost all of this…that's a mess waiting to happen.

I'm talking on a per use basis.

PSP allows multi attacks via minions during the scene. The baseline option does this:

thousandFold typhoon hand (••••)
The Infernal moves so quickly she seems to split into a bewildering array of simultaneous phantoms, all
striking against a single doomed opponent.
System: Reflexively spend at least 1 Essence. At the end of the turn, after all characters have taken their actions, the character may make two additional attacks at her full dice pool per point of Essence spent. She can make no more extra attacks than her Athletics rating (minimum 1).
These must all be directed at the same opponent.

So every attack is 1/2 a mote every time we use it and they always happen at the end of the turn order.

There are pros and cons each way, but in any case where we want to make more than 2 attacks at once in an entire scene we win out on essence costs.

Paranoia combat is a decision making problem. I'm skeptical of the argument we should limit our tool set because we'll make stupid decisions with it.

You could make the argument you're presenting about any and every buff available to us, which would forgo a significant amount of power.

I have put Hellfire 1 as the choice for Olivia for now. If people want, I can change it to fortune 1 or something else.
[X]Plan taking over the red court
Please note that this section:
-[X] Olivia, 13 XP spent
--[X] Manipulation 2 dots, 1 XP
--[X] Perception 5 dots, 1 XP
--[X] Appearance 4 dots, 0 XP
--[X] Mana Manipulation Ritual: Infusion, 2 XP
--[X] Mana Manipulation Ritual: Shape Mana, 3 XP
--[X] Clairvoyance, 6 XP
--[X] Ask Tiffany to raise physical stats to 5
Is incorrect due to my mistake. Infusion and Shape Mana rituals are free. I recommend raising intelligence by 1 for 1 XP, and doing something with remaining 4, such as buying a new path for Olivia pending approval, or maybe something else.

Yog told me earlier that he'd advocate for it to be used until reaching 4 motes. I feel that the overall use of it in such Arcs is relevant to the conversation of mote efficiency not just individual cases. Yes it is a decision making issue, hence the concern. I direct you again to entering combat with the final boss with 2 motes without this charm having been used during that Arc.

But I didn't. Essence management with available motes factoring in how we typically spend them is just as important as power. It's wasteful if your constantly throwing it in simply because minions or party members are on the field whenever it's possible and we have made do without such. In some cases it'd be different but not in every case which is how it seems the charm would be used. Everytime or nearly everytime we enter conflict with a team regardless of other factors.

I changed it although it likely will not matter unless the vote shifts.

Precognition sadly was disallowed - can't buy psychic phenomena out of chargen apprarently (VEE to the rescue for later, I guess( it seems:
I went for fortune just because I want to push just how many bonuses can be stacked on one sniper shot. Who knows maybe Olivia will assassinate the Red King.

@BronzeTongue
To be clear I'm pointing out that if we entered the fight with the final boss with 2 motes but had also been spending motes on PSP in this alternative timeline when it actually wasn't needed during that entire Arc except maybe when Lydia and Co were fighting Peabody (but even then everyone was fine and got healed and the enemy was killed and taken in so would it really have been called for?) but of course always beneficial for team battles so it gets used anyway then we either-

A: Would've entered the boss fight with less than 2 motes reliant on the GM's generosity facilitating that fight to by allowing Shintai to stay up

B: The player base would've seen an issue with using the portal charm -assuming that PSP use would've left us with at least 4 motes to use the portal charm in the first place while we had 6 left at that point without PSP use and just triggered the Urge meaning that wasn't an option- because of our remaining motes and noted interference from the HollowMan by DP in our effort to get the other Wardens out if we decided to go back in and as a result we wouldn't have used the portal option.

So mismanagement of one facet of a toolkit can effect your use of other aspects of said toolkit and cause them to be neglected or go unused because they all operate on the same resource and your spamming one tool when you don't know if it's going to be necessary just because it has guaranteed benefits. Do you get what I'm saying?

I don't see why 4 motes. It's 1 mote for a scene and the alternative is 1 mote per 2 attacks up to our dots in athletics.

We did go in low on motes, but less charms isn't the answer to that. Having more tools gives us greater flexibility in how we respond to things and therefore allows us to choose different levels of essence spending.

I don't see a basis for your argument here.

This ability isn't more tempting to toss around than our other buffs, it's one tool among many. If we had it around for this arc we wouldn't have been more likely to do what we did than we already were.

The solution to our problem is to pay attention to our actions. If we fail to do that then this will happen again regardless of our charm set.

Did you read the conversation me and Yog were having for context? The one I linked?

I'm pretty sure you misunderstood his statement. Given the context I provided with my original question I'm rather positive he means until we reach 4 remaining essence he'd advocate for it being used during any battle in which Molly has a team present and as such they'd benefit. So Yog would have us use it in our standard attack suit whenever a team is around regardless of other factors is what I'm saying hence the concern over judgement with this particular tool.

No, fuck that. When it comes to a vote, we're leaving there forever from my point of view. I hated giving in to Charity and I still hate it. The whole family drama thing was completely useless and the only useful thing is Michael.

Frankly, I just don't like her and her prohibitions. And I'm so glad that we won't see Molly's mother on this quest with her traumas and judgments anytime soon. I hope so.
We are roleplaying a specific character and her inclinations. Not playing a blank slate.

Molly Carpenter loves her family; two of her Intimacies relate to her parents in mostly positive ways, and since her clashes with Charity have come to a sort of truce, she gets to spend time with them without guilt. And her clones allow her to do other things as well, without giving up family time.

Her clones do not drop by just for the technical quality of Charity's cooking; not when their Dexterity + Craft pool means that they can cook better if they choose.

And thats not counting the benefits of being access to one of the only two places in the Chicago area that is specifically shielded from all levels of hostile scrying, up to Nicodemus/Anduriel.
For reference, the only other place that has anything close to the same level of warding is Demoreach.

OR the benefits of living under the Carpenter roof back when she was much weaker; if she hadnt had an angel-reinforced threshold to duck behind, both the Will of Kakuri and Broken Seeker would have been much thornier problems back when she was E2/E3.

Remember, Molly canonically lived at home till she was in her mind-20s; she only moved out after Harry died in Changes and she was dodging the Council.
Her first apartment was after she became Winter Lady.

That fallen valkyrie hit us with a perfect attack, which would require a PD.

Death Star?
She hit Molly with a surprise attack when Molly's surprise negator wasnt up, and they had a perfect defence to rewind after taking mortal damage. But thats it.
To my recollection, Kattrin Sigfridsdottir didnt have a perfect attack.

@uju32 Seriously he's continuously having a conversation with you like you can participate. If the reader who post the most in thread is on your block list I don't know how you expect not to get discredited by him posting constant questions and citation requests that you aren't responding to.

How is this supposed to work exactly.
Thanks for your concern. Genuinely.

But I think its better for my blood pressure to decline getting involved in arguments where the other person is likely to accuse me of lying to win an internet argument. Its not really possible to hold an amicable argument or discussion under circumstances where you cant assume good faith on both sides; at least, I cant. And I'd rather avoid the drama.

If other people make their decisions on that basis *shrug* it is what it is. Ultimately its entertainment, not life and death.
I'll fall back and go catch up on some of my other reading.

To my recollection, Kattrin Sigfridsdottir didnt have a perfect attack.
According to DP it was.
The Crown of Eyes is a sensory power, it does not make you faster to match someone who moves at unnatural speed. The way I see it Katrina getting her one shot is not surprise, it is a perfect attack, because she is moving at speeds that cannot be blocked. You would need a perfect defense to counter it and you would need shaping to keep her from slowing you. You have the tools available, it's just that you have not drawn them yet.

Citation.

So, it would be a good idea to be prepared for other perfect attacks, because the next time, it may not be something we can easily shrug off.

Votes as they stand. Ppl may want to approval vote as the second and third winning vote are very close.

According to DP it was.
Citation.

So, it would be a good idea to be prepared for other perfect attacks, because the next time, it may not be something we can easily shrug off.
Thank you for the citation.
However, note that it was a perfect attack as in an undodgeable attack; it was still soaked, and didnt inflict any status effects.
Thats one of the things you stack HP for, so you can afford to sustain injury and walk it off.

Once again, no Sandstrike Blast, no PDs.
I'm of the suspicions that we'll never get them, that there'll always be something that people want more.
You'll notice my plan does have Sandstrike Blast, if you're interested in voting for it.

At no point in this arc would sand strike blast have been the best use of our essence or actions.
Thats inaccurate.

If we'd had Sandstrike Blast, we could have threatend the Hollow Man without moving.
We might have killed Namshiel if Lucian or the Fallen didnt have a perfect defense. If the fight with the Lord of Outer Night had turned into a melee, having a ranged option against his thralls would have been critical.

Neither of these things are true. We would not be able to hit anything with the spear and we didn't have the essence to spare to use it as a grenade which means we couldn't have used it during Hollow Man fight and the spear is literally incapable of doing enough damage to kill the denarian and it also wouldn't have been capable of hitting him.

We did threaten him. Our curse hurt him more then just one more ranged attack would have. And if the fight with the Lords of Outer Night had turned into a melee we would have been in melee. Not sure that sand strike blast would have helped with Namshiel the problem was that we wasted time transforming not our lack of attack options. He would have failed his teleport if we had been cursing him.

[X] Plan Thousand Correct Violent Actions

At this point, I want Sandstrike Blast (just because a Diff. 5 scenelong Ranged Weapon is better than spending motes for a single attack, ignoring Death of Obsidian Butterflies sheer battlefield reshaping), but I'm dying to see the results of Awakened Eye of the Dragon on the setting and people around us - how useful will we find it, how interesting will it be to our allies, how long will it take us to teach it to Harry, what bonus/power will Demonreach give?

I'll just stick it in with VEE, TCSS, and all the Thinker Powers/Perfect Defenses on my (growing) wishlist. (Probably lower until we upgrade our Athletics a bit - a dice pool of 6, or 7 if Tiffany buffs our Dex to 5, isn't that great even at Difficulty 5).

Especially since again Charity can't stop us from doing something at the end of the day so player agency is not compromised.

See: Every time Charity steamrolled our choices with her ridiculous dice rolls.

That being said, I'll admit that the Carpenter House serves as essentially a Fiat Defense, and saves us a ton of resources.

But I'll still be pushing for us to leave it ASAP, because I (for personal reasons) really can't stand the power Charity has over Molly, VEE-based Genie Cosplay aside. Michael is at least accepting, even if he he stands for a faith that I increasingly wish was given less of a moral carte Blanche. Charity… her shaming and rejection of everything outside of her bubble is just taxing, largely for personal reasons that I suppose not everyone shares. Her suppression of her own powers, and her apparently canonical wish for Molly to do the same… it hits home in a bad way. It's not necessarily a cost benefit analysis if I just emotionally loathe her, is it?

Not that she's constantly loathsome, but I'd really like it if Molly could get to a point where she just… wouldn't come up, outside of places where she isn't interacting with Molly's Magic, or other parts of her life.
I'll avoid pushing it in votes or discussion for now, but my choices are driven by my experiences and biases, and I don't enjoy interacting with Charity. Still, I've said my piece. Thanks for listening, or reading, if you've read my blurb, here.

Edit: It's still a terrible idea, but I can't imagine how funny it would be if we went for Investments and bargained with Mikaboshi using our soul. Would we get bonuses/penalties from how furious he is? Dumb idea, and the costs/side effects are largely too high, but hysterical.

What are you talking about?

There's nothing I can tell you then but I'll point out that she's been getting more accepting of Molly over time. Like with the Jade Dogs, Ghouls that she helped us cook for and feed on our word alone.
