Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Does he even do that in setting? What would the motive for that be if he did? I don't see how our mission would result in being "tested".
I assume that the Binding of Isaac is still a canon event that actually happened in some form. At least in the past White God apparently did tests of character a lot.

We are on a mission to take something from a saint. I assume that coincidences don't really exist right now, and everything is "mysterious ways"

Lydia would not do this unless the ghosts asked her to organize them for some reason. Unlike other supernaturals, true higher soul ghosts live a pretty precarious existence. The power they use to make things happen is in direct competition with the power they need to remain stable within the Spirit World, there are ways to replenish them, primarily human emotion and attachment, but they are either slow or unreliable... in the absence of ancestor worship. Lydia feels like it would be lovely if people would just pick up Ancestor Worship again.
I was under the impression even lesser ghosts could do something like that.
The way Agatha was focused on children in Grave Peril.
But fair enough.

As for ancestor worship veneration, it never went away in large parts of the world.
Lydia just lives in the wrong parts of the West.
Tiffany could also just shapeshift like she did back in Vegas and buy a new outfit from a store so we wouldn't need to craft anything even.
For this scrub?
Id just buy secondhand clothes and makeup, then have Molly apply it.
No need to get overly fancy.

Wouldn't she be at least a witness in the investigation? Thus being required to be in contact with police, possibly testifying at trial? I am not afraid of the involvement right this moment. I am leery of the amount of involvement required later.

Also, if this is a White God test, we should check if there's something biologically wrong with the murderer's brain. Ie if, for example, he's a clinical psychopath, and if Tiffany can heal him, so he can properly feel remorse.
No. You mail in a recording where the lady is anonymous and the dude's voice is easily recognizable.
And let the cops find the physical evidence to substantiate it. Point them at where the body is buried as well; Halliwell's flat is probably a good focus for it.

Remember, this dude was imprisoned IRL for two murders with no supernatural aid.
There's enough evidence existing to convince a jury.
Just be sure to mail copies to both the cops and one or more significant newspapers, so that noone simply ignores it.

[X] Plan legal confessions
-[X] Use the crown on the Halliwell's ID to learn what evidence of his crimes exist
--[X] Anonymously forward said evidence to the police, specifically people working on the related murders
-[X] Tiffany's plan, get a confession to hand to the police
--[X] Accompany her in a perfume bottle as a backup
--[X] Disguise her, so the killer can't give her normal appearance as a description.

This way we nail him down as much as possible, and give as many of his victims as possible closure.

Honestly, Physical Attribute 5 Lash doesnt need the backup against a mortal.
But it makes Molly feel useful.

I feel like we shouldn't have to write all this for common sense, but might as well be clear.

IRL, his trophy cache had somewhere around 60 trophies, only one of which each were identifiably for Godden-Edwards and O'Callaghan.
Ah.

Imagine being a serial killer in Wales of all places, and having an Exigent of Death, a Nephilim and an Infernal Exalt dropped directly on your head.
From America.

Thats not bad luck, thats God deciding to personally address your fuckup.
I cant but suspect that a lot of supernaturals are going to spend a lot of time examining these events to determine the significance of why this particular fly of evil merited a nuke of this magnitude.

The easiest answer would likely be that one of his victims was linked to someone that we are linked to. That whole 6 degrees of separation thing. You never know when some random victim is a super bad idea now that Molly exists.
Bluntly I build a custom monster with 35 wounds and 15 dice of Soak, three distinct special attacks one was a rain of darts which was blocked, the second was the mist that was resisted and the third was the blood getting on its enemies. It landed none of them and died in two rounds without a vote. For something that took me the better part of an hour to make that is a bit of a problem.

I'm no stranger to bosses going down like chumps, I run pathfinder/D&D, save or die is a thing, but the means I have within the confines of the system to make sure if does not happen too often are quite limiting so I'm considering how to get past them.

This is really late, but I am guessing that monster would have done a lot better if it was fighting Molly in hell. It's like fighting Jackie Chan carrying a sleeping baby.

The tests for the Wan Kuei are not in Heaven, they were long ago, but for the last few ages of the world, how many even they do not know, they have been in Yomi. To escape Yomi is to pass the test.

In WoD, at least, the Wan Xian's tests were never in Heaven, they were distributed across the spirit and mortal worlds back when the barrier between them was paper thin so regular mortals could wander into the spirit world.

The tests then fell into Yomi as part of the growth of Yomi Wan/the corruption of the Wan Xian into the Wan Kuei.

I wonder if we could do something to launder the power from ghost hunter type shows - or just mass media in general- into something more wholesome to redistribute to ghosts that we like. How viable is making a show or commercial designed to provoke a vaguely directed emotional response and then harvesting it to feed spirits? How about songs or sufficiently identifiable internet stuff?

I'm thinking [Attention Icon] -> Arcana/Splendor -> connected ghosts
Consequences? I'm sure everyone will accept "powering mega ghosts with memes, music, and daytime TV" calmly and without any concerns about our activities. :V
If you are serious? This would be the vicinity of a ~Tier 4 Splendor. For example:
Form of the Keep(4-point Form Element) + Form of Verdant Wood(1-pt Form Element) + Essence-Stoking Spirit(3 pt Root Element)+ Elongation of the Curse(1-point Mystic Element) + Sorcerous Imbuing(0-pt Mystic Element)

Gives you a small park where every ghost or death-aligned spirit can go and have rest. Maybe with a hearthstone or an ever-flowering tree at the center.

Alternatively, swap out Essence-Stoking Spirit for Illuminated Connections or Gleaming Reputation.
Which gives everyone subject to the Fascination the equivalent of [Rating] dots in a relevant background like Backup: Ancestor Cult.

[X] Plan legal confessions

The main evidence is probably his trophy collection. If he did kill sixty people as it suggests, Molly might want to locate the missing corpses to be returned to their families for burial.

The issue is more getting the redirect from a wide audience. The gleaming reputation thing might work better though.

Arc 13 Post 12: Secrets Burned True
Secrets Burned True

3rd of February 2007 A.D.

"We can't just make him vanish, or kill him, the victims' families deserve closure..." you begin to argue, but before you can get any further Lydia 'finishes' the sentence:

"While they are still alive, I did not think of that, apologies."

Olivia gives her a odd look, though you notice not Daniel. Your brother was apparently used to the idea that his girlfriend thought of death as a curtain to be freely parted this way and that, just not the part where she could kill someone because in restitution for crimes without a second look.

Glancing down at the ID you ask again: Where can more information of his misdeeds be found?

The answer you get is more through than you want: a trophy cache, ponds tucked out of the way, so many ponds, now filled with the rotting bodies of victims, disposed of like so much refuse once their killed had taken everything he wanted from them. No, you wish you didn't have to remember, but knowing is useful, it's going to put this bastard away.

Lost 1 Essence -> Now at 13/15 (Crown Question)

Taking a swig of water to clear the phantom taste out of your mouth you turn to Tiffany to explain what you had seen. "Do you still want to...?"

"Yes, information is only as good as the police's willingness to check the site. It is not beyond the realm of possibility that if presented with that series of locations that they will chalk it down to a false lead. After all how would anyone but the murderer know in that situation? Add a recording to that and it suddenly becomes a good bit more credible."

"I'm coming with you."

After another fifteen miles or so the car ahead pulls into a gas station you speed on past so Tiffany, disguised to the full extent of her considerable skills and preparations as dark haired brown eyed girl in a battered hoodie gets out to play the hitchhiker . Sealed inside a perfume bottle in her purse you do not see what happens next, but though the glass you can hear it. He tries to turn small-talk into flirting, she pretends not to get it, he pushes, she refuses, he pushes harder, the car speeds up, she pretends to cave and then something... odd happens, he just offers her money for sex, a hundred pounds which you think is a lot. It's almost like a canned response. Confirming she's a 'whore' in his head. It is perhaps a good thing that Broken Seeker is half a world away because if he were outside that car door you'd be tempted to throw him a snack.

By the time he Halliwell pulled out the knife Tiffany slips into the role his warped perceptions had assigned her with in infernal grace, begging, bargaining, telling him he is a good man. The dam breaks, he's talking faster now, a kind of performative cruelty meant to terrify what seems a particularly timid victim. Had he been a bit less enthralled at this fantasy-come-to-life he might have wondered why a woman who should have been petrified with fright was articulate enough to ask questions with the precision of a skilled investigator. She gets numbers dates methods of killing and picking his victims, though only a handful of names. He didn't care about the names.

"That's enough." Tiffany cuts him off in a wicked-sharp tone wholly unlike what she had used before.

There's a scuffle and the sound of a knife being dropped as the car swerves off the road.

"Whore, I'll rip out your...!" The words cut out with a thump

"Couldn't even hold a knife straight," Tiffany speaks up again, this time to you. "Pity really, I've finally managed to make some improvements to this body and I wanted to see how they would hold up in an actual fight."

Just to be safe she takes the knife. You'll have to remember to throw it in a bog.

Iris is of course more than up to the task of disguising Tiffany's voice in the recording, though you do worry that you'll have to go all the way back to Chicago to burn a CD since none of you had thought to bring a laptop along, but you manage to find an Internet Cafe run by a guy in slacks and a polo shirt who looks like he couldn't give less of a damn if you were copying state secrets as long as you paid him. Disk goes in the nearest mailbox to the appropriate authorities and you're on your way again.

The wildlife preserve proper is small, barely more than a hundred hectares, but it's set in the middle if picturesque Welsh countryside peppered by the kind of small villages whose shape has not changed at least since Victorian times if not longer, the sort of place where everyone knows everyone and you can set your clock and your calendar by particular visitors to the village pub. If ever there was a place one would expect to see old Welsh legends coming down the street it was Cilgerran, though probably not in a facsimile of a Rolls Royce driven by said legend's daughter's American boyfriend. They even have a gothic revival church from the middle of the Nineteenth century, and a ruined castle on a hill, peering out through a blanket a mist that even the afternoon sun doesn't have the power to dispel.

Lydia explains that the hounds she's after rarely show themselves before nightfall so the five of you meander though the village taking in the sights, up to the castle finding it wholly bereft of lingering shades, but your friend has a grand time talking about the history of the area, the long wars between the Norman Baron and Welsh King as the former pressed the latter into the seam, though not without unexpected reverses, heroic stands and twists of fate over hill, stream and copse of trees. "My mother used to love these kinds of stories and she'd have loved even more to see the land that birthed them..."

Your ears practically perk, Lydia rarely talks about her mother and when she does it's only with a vague sense of nostalgia, like she's just another story of her father's.

Then she looks up at the darkening sky, the sun just having slipped behind the hills. "Best not to talk about this at night father says."

What do you do?

[] Ask her to continue, if something does happen you're pretty sure you can take it on

[] Say nothing, continue on into the marshes

[] Write in

OOC: This isn't your last chance to hear about Lydia's mother, but like it says above she doesn't like to talk about it so if you do not take this chance it might take a while.

So we are spending even more essence on this guy when it's not at all required to get the job done. Our essence economy management will always be trash it seems.

Essence Economy like the term suggests means that you use it as you see fit because we're not in a time crunch we can literally regenerate it within 15 minutes there's no need to say management is bad. One could argue that unless we're being directly pressured in combat situations or directly expecting it, not using Essence is just being stingy or not using our resources correctly which is mismanagement or poor Essence economy.
