On this, I recall you saying previously that it can reach our Hell World but that we need to be careful because it can reach our inner world. I could be wrong but you were also talking about a permanent portal?
Could you maybe find a source for this as its important? Also should probably ask how is our world further away than the nevernever since its literally our soul.
I have thought of it too late, but it occurs to me that Anonymity Through Propriety plus A Cold and Lonely World is perfect for kidnapping someone.
Edit:Wearing Anonymity Through Propriety you hit someone with A Cold and Lonely World and nobody* cares even if you beat them to death in the middle of the street.

Harry: To open a Way you have to carefully feel around to feel a weak spot connecting the world to the Nevernever and then open it like you would open a door with a complicated handle.
Molly: So anyway, I build a Gate in reality to any plane I want with no particular care to what was there before. May or may not leave scars.

In fairness wizards, vampires of multiple kinds, and fae can do it fairly quickly the problem is most places going into the nevernever isn't a good idea. Plus they have the fact it doesn't cost them almost anything to open ways. I would say their getting the better deal since all of them could probably open dozens of ways without much trouble if given any amount of time in the day.
Ancient Native Shamans: Holy shit, that's a weak point in reality's defenses! A cursed pathway to places beyond mortal ken, an opening that monstrous creatures beyond human comprehension may take advantage of! For the sake of our children and their children and the entire world, we must do whatever we can to safeguard this vulnerability, even if we must draw upon the darkest urges and sins of humanity. For the good of all!
Molly: So there's a Gate to Outside here huh.... I bet I can make a better one

They are all limited in one way or another though.
Reds for example can easily open gates in places of bloodshed, Fey in their preferred domain and so on.
The Calibration Gate is unique in that it doesn't care the least bit where you are opening it, how strong the Veil is, what wardings where lain down here, it just rolls at a fixed DC uncaring of the metaphysical situation and opens the Gate.

Of course I'd just prefer the sheer repeatable use they have we don't really have any option for that it costs too much after all no matter what method we use to be cavalier about it.

But how often do you really need to open a gate like this?
Most of the time we'll probably have Lydia or Harry with us for cheaper options, this is just for emergencies and cases where nothing else works.
If Lydia had failed to get them out, we would have had to go after them once we put the Will down.
Because we had no idea what they were facing, and we would still have had more Essence to spare than Lydia.
If Lydia failed, we would have been out of luck completely. Or, rather, it would have been cheaper to use Calling the Calibration Gate. Because it would take at least 1 mote to transfer to NeverNever, and at least 3 motes to get back with two passengers. Likely it would take more, because no way Molly succeeds a DC9 roll (the Will strengthened local gauntlet) on 3 total dice pool at non-favored ability.
We had RVD by this point, and you'd be surprised at how much of the world is close to water or constitutes part of the basin of a major river system. 70% of human population are on the coast, after all, and Faerie, where we were, maps in large part to human distribution as I recall it.
I wouldn't be surprised, since I have ran the calculations on how long it would take us to get to the closest river during that update. The situation wouldn't have been meaningfully changed by us having an ability to leave NeverNever wherever we were. And, in fact, I would likely have preferred going for a known exit. Or we would have had to burn the local scene as a focus for the crown to learn how it mapped to real world.
No it doesn't. Planning for outrageous worst case prepares you or a low probability worst case, and can, in fact, leave you completely incapable of handling any other scenario. Which is kinda what your plan is going for.
Uh offhand @Yog could you please add the descriptions or link them to what your buying for us in your winning plan here? I just wanna know exactly what they do. sorry.
Sure? I mean, I am using the information from the Exalted vs. World of Darkness revised book, which I assumed people had access to, since it has been previously linked in the quest.
Here is the total list of what I am proposing:
The Infernal wraps herself in a mantle of Essence
which devours the attention of the weak-willed, mak-
ing it feel like an impossible burden to notice the Exalt
or interfere in her affairs.
System: Spend 1 Essence and roll Charisma + Et-
iquette against difficulty 4. Anyone whose Willpower
rating is equal to or lower than the resulting successes
cannot notice or acknowledge the Infernal unless she
directly interacts or interferes with them. If she's tak-
ing some indirect action that would distress a character
were he to acknowledge it (such as reading his diary
or murdering his spouse), and that character has Will-
power 5+, they can spend a point of Willpower and
make a Willpower roll against difficulty 7 to attempt to
acknowledge and confront the Infernal. This Charm
lasts for one scene.
Signature Effect: Anonymity Through Propriety acti-
vates at no cost when the Infernal dons her Shintai form.
The Infernal connects herself to the underlying struc-
ture which precedes all communication, and then net-
works those around her into that understanding as well.
System: The Infernal's player rolls Willpower
against difficulty 7. Success allows her to speak the lan-
guage at the heart of all languages for a scene. Anyone
who hears her words comprehends them, and finds
that any attempt they make to speak in her presence
comes out in the same ancient tongue. This enforced
comprehension ravages the mind and body, and who
hear the Infernal and respond to her suffer one level
of bashing damage in the form of bleeding eyes and
terrible headaches. The Infernal may spend 1 Essence
to spare those she converses with this harm and the
associated pain, should she feel magnanimous.
The Infernal's flesh is fortified with the power to
survive the very tortures of Hell.
System: The character permanently gains two
Wounded (–2), one Mauled (–2), and one Crippled
(–5) health levels.
This Charm can be purchased a number of times
equal to the character's Essence rating. It only enhances
the Infernal's regular health track, not her Shintai form.
The sorcerer offers her Essence to the four points
of the compass, then strikes the ground. When she
straightens, an ancient, crumbling archway stands be-
fore her, granting passage into the otherworlds.
System: Spend 4 Essence and make an extended
Intelligence + Occult roll (difficulty 7). Upon accu-
mulating five successes, the Exalt summons a gateway
which allows anyone who walks through it to pass into
the Spirit World, Underworld, or Near Dreaming –
the sorcerer decides which upon casting the spell. The
Calibration Gate remains present for a number of
minutes equal to the sorcerer's Essence, at which point
it vanishes as suddenly as it appeared.
This is your basic knack for noticing things that go
on around you, even when you're not actively looking
for them. Alertness describes the attention you pay to
the outside world, whether otherwise occupied or not.
This Talent is typically paired with Perception, and is
best used when sensing physical stimuli (as opposed to
moods or clues).
• Novice: You're no mindless drone.
Let's say Molly rolls 22 dice for charisma+performance against DC 6(The normal dc is 7 but we're adding boiling sea mastery and Without Honor Without Hope Somehow). Each success is worth 1 point of essence. The Average here is 8.9 successes if you extrapolate from the 8.1 average on 20 from this spreadsheet(source: WoD Probability Sheet), so lets say she gets 9 points of essence per prayer eating ritual. This takes a minimum of 1 hour and requires Molly visit a different congregation of at least 90 people each time.(edit: each congregation can only do this once per day)
I don't have the spoons to figure out how to math that in right now. Also I must emphasize we don't have a performance excellency, have zero performance dots, and 3 charisma at the moment.
My idea for upscaling prayer eating is a pyramid scheme. Prayer eating is not an exclusively exalted practice. As described in the book it's primarily practiced by Wan Kuei:
The Hungry Dead of the Indian subcontinent
practice a spiritual discipline that is regarded as hereti-
cal and abhorrent by their cousins farther east. Some
believe it to have been taught by the debased spirits
known as the Yama Kings, while others simply regard
it as a blasphemous affront against Heaven undertaken
by corpses with pretentions of divinity.
A few – a very few – Dragon-Blooded families
know that the Chosen are also capable of practicing
a version of the Discipline known as Prayer-Eating.
It's not so much considered blasphemous as incredi-
bly ill-advised, and the House of Bhagwat has gone to
some pains to prevent word of this odd miracle from
spreading. Is it presumptuous for human heroes, how-
ever divinely blessed, to divert the hopes and prayers of
the masses onto themselves, for their own benefit? Per-
haps. Is it foolish and dangerous for a family of demi-
gods attempting to avoid drawing the notice of the rest
of the supernatural world to enter into direct compe-
tition with the Celestial Tribe of the Hungry Dead for
human worship? Absolutely.
So, instead of doing a 1 level prayer eating session (where we lead a ceremony), we devise a multi-stage one, where our priests lead a ceremony for mass congregation, then offer gathered essence to the next level of the pyramid, etc, until it reaches us, with the use of jade talismans and such. Even a very conservative estimate puts the output of such a procedure at tens of kilomotes, and optimistic one leaves us with millions of motes gathered in one place, at which place scaling mechanics certainly break down and we are left with narrative-only rules. That's the kinda stuff I want for developing city gods, remaking Exalted Maidens and developing third circle demons (all of which might or might not be the same actions).
Considering how flexible the Calibration Gate is in terms of destination in ExVwod. I expect that in this quest Calibration Gate will either come with
A: An intrinsic knowledge about how the setting and situation changes the gates destination
B: A greater flexibility in choosing gate destination
C: Both because when it comes down to it they both lead to the same thing.
I'd argue most people don't fully understand the White God especially in dresden files where their clearly more than just a Christian thing since older gods and entities clearly recognize them as the creator and answer to his ban on the mortal world stuff or the fact according to Jim Butcher that he doesn't care whether you worship him or not.
Uh offhand @Yog could you please add the descriptions or link them to what your buying for us in your winning plan here? I just wanna know exactly what they do. sorry.

Not quite, it is Calling Calibration's Gate, otherwise known as 'that time when the rules of reality go wibbly-wobbly'. It is much more terrifying interesting than just building a gate.
They do not fully understand him, but they understand enough to have a connection.

To have True Faith in something you have to understand and resonate with some part of it, hence the 'True' in True Faith, there is an element of I guess you could say gnosis to it.
Alright then... I don't think a perfect defense ability is a must have right now nor am I sure how Molly would judge if it needs to be used or not which is problematic since it cost so many motes. Not to mention I think its better to spread the XP out a bit more rather than dump most of it into a charm that we may very well not use anytime soon. I also want more health
That's not how charm works at all. Molly spends mote reflexively on any attack against her. So Molly will use the charm next time she is attacked. What is even more important, the perfect defence is a must, because it makes all other defences obsolete. So, to spend XP on health (like Yog and uju are doing ) or soak charms is a sunk-cost fallacy.
Molly absolutely will meet an enemy with perfect attack, that ignores soak during the quest. DragonParadox will add this kind of enemy, because it's one of the most interesting mechanics from Exalted.
Also, let's not forget last time Molly faced an old Red Court vampire: questers activated Shintai right after the first attack, when she suffered damage!
and the ability to better compensate for our supernatural signature before Las Vegas and a way to make gates to and from the NeverNever without a wizard.

Given our hells slightly prophetic nature and like reminiscence to like sailor moon stuff and such. Plus probably having inklings of things that connect to us wouldn't there likely be philosophies similar to ours in an eerie way? Especially since our world is basically in truth an example of last thursdayism.
Considering SCCP doesn't cost essence, lasts for an entire scene, and is essentially a pseudo-Perfect attack that inflicts one level of bashing on everybody who hears her, it's great to always activate it when going in solo against anyone. Any friends would also get hit and cost an Essence to spare each, but theoretically if Molly wanted to she could waltz onto the News and give everybody watching/listening bleeding eyes/pounding headache.
I guess the new (technically old, really old) slang really is literally harmful for everybody!

No. This is wrong. Perfect defenses do not obsolete normal defenses. Perfect defenses have flaws, and all perfect defenses cost motes of essence which we have in short supply. You can't spam perfects. They are the last line of defense, not the first one.

Indeed. Given how it's described I expect it to be a perfect anti-wizard measure. It's hard to cast using your specifically selected magic language when you are forced to speak in a different one and have a pounding headache.
Eh, I'm sorry for inconvenience! I didn't think you'd reopen the vote!
