Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

I am going to try my hand at a rewrite.
Black Mirror Incarnation (•••••)
The Infernal breathes upon the black mirror ofher heart, and becomes someone else.
System: The Infernal spends 1 Essence, spends a moment concentrating, and dons a perfect illusion which causes her to appear to be someone else. This can be either a real person, or a fictitious individual of the Infernal's devising. This illusion fools all senses short of the wizard's Sight. Deduction may reveal the Infernal for an impostor, but imperfections in the disguise itself never will. The illusion persists until the Infernal reflexively dismisses it, or until her anima flares.

Also it has been noticed that it is a bad idea for wizards to look on Molly with their sight open.

At least it's a plan that gives us something useful rather than just being based on paranoia.
Based on paranoia eh?
Whats your plan if we get tackled through the rift into wherever it leads? Or have to chase Sandra into it?
How do you hope to get back home?

Blithely assuming nothing will go wrong is how you end up shit creek without a paddle and have to make unfortunate compromises.
This runs into a huge issue. Wraith: The Oblivion exists.
Remember, this is oWoD.
Not all the assumptions are the same across gamelines.
The spirits and ancestors that the Garou deal with dont live in the Shadowlands where Wraith happens.

There is another option if you guys want to open the veil

Calling the Calibration Gate
The sorcerer offers her Essence to the four points of the compass, then strikes the ground. When she straightens, an ancient, crumbling archway stands before her, granting passage into the otherworlds.
System: Spend 4 Essence and make an extended Intelligence + Occult roll (difficulty 7). Upon accumulating five successes, the Exalt summons a gateway which allows anyone who walks through it to pass into the Spirit World, Underworld, or Near Dreaming – the sorcerer decides which upon casting the spell. The Calibration Gate remains present for a number of minutes equal to the sorcerer's Essence, at which point it vanishes as suddenly as it appeared.

It is sorcery so it costs a flat 10 XP. This does not come with the language benefits though

Can this sorcery make a Gate to Outside? If so, I'd vote for it just for the look on everybody's face when we go to resolve a Gate to Outside by... making a Gate that could take you Outside

There is a ton of good stuff I want, Charms that do great things, enhanced attributes and toughness, etc., but I think y'all are overlooking the necessity of being able to move about undetected in hostile territory.

It's one thing to move around an area when we only need to avoid being noticed by muggles. It's another thing entirely when you're surrounded by hostile supernatural creatures, many of whom can sense your massive, creepy Infernal aura from the other side of the city. And its even worse when those beings are your enemies and have probably already circulated your physical description throughout their ranks.

Las Vegas is a longtime stronghold for the Reds, and there is an allied heavy hitter who basically owns the supernatural side of the city. There is no telling exactly what sort of muggle resources they can call on, but it's a solid bet the local law enforcement, organized crime, and tourist industry is thoroughly compromised, to the point where being noticed as Molly Carpenter even once means we won't be able to hide the rest of the time we're in the city, will probably be tracked, and likely attacked when we aren't ready for a fight.

Vegas, actually that entire region of the country, is also Skinwalker territory. If regular supernaturals can detect us from across a city, a legit Skinwalker can probably do it from across a state or two.

BMI will let us move around the city while receiving no more scrutiny than any other muggle tourist. We can swap identities at will as needed and hide our presence from all the gribblies that would otherwise be able to detect us without even trying.

Don't forget what happened when we used RVD to travel to Mexico. Just passing through stirred up a metric shit ton of spiritual turbulence.

[X] Plan What Happens in Vegas Stays In Vegas
-[X] Molly:
--[X] Alertness 2: 5 XP
--[X] Awareness 1: 3 XP
--[X] Black Mirror Incarnation: 20 XP
-[X] Lydia:
--[X] Mo Kung/Demon Fighter 1: Steelskin(Training Discount): 2 XP
--[X] Willpower 6: 5 XP
-[X] OTHER: Hand over Jade Talisman/Essence Battery to Lydia, with caveat that we might borrow it later to see if we can duplicate it
There's actually a much easier way to ignore law-enforcement and other mortals, near-mortals and basically anything without serious mental defences:
AAnonymity nonymity TThrough PPropriety ropriety (••)
The Infernal wraps herself in a mantle of Essence which devours the attention of the weak-willed, making it feel like an impossible burden to notice the Exalt or interfere in her affairs.
System: Spend 1 Essence and roll Charisma + Etiquette against difficulty 4. Anyone whose Willpower rating is equal to or lower than the resulting successes cannot notice or acknowledge the Infernal unless she directly interacts or interferes with them. If she's taking some indirect action that would distress a character were he to acknowledge it (such as reading his diary or murdering his spouse), and that character has Willpower 5+, they can spend a point of Willpower and make a Willpower roll against difficulty 7 to attempt to acknowledge and confront the Infernal. This Charm lasts for one scene
I would ask you (and @uju32 and @Yog ) to consider this for the build.
Forcing everyone to ignore us on a good roll, and everyone with WP 4 or less, meaning most regular humans) without any chance of defence is an extremly strong defence against everything but bosses.

Edit: And it's pretty cheap.

4m.
More than a quarter of Molly's Essence pool to use.
Nice spell, but really not what
Even without overt Red influence in Vegas, the rest of my points still stand and the argument isn't really much weaker, IMO.

Being able to hide from the Sin-Eater, his Red lackey, Outsiders and their agents, other local supernaturals, etc., Skinwalkers in the Nevada region, on top of completely disguising our appearance, and being able to change identities at the drop of a hat, is well worth the expense.
It really isnt.

You havent invested anything in preparing for the central mcguffin we have been told exists:
The Rift that the Sin-Eater was summoned to guard. The reason the city itself exists in the first place, and the reason the Dragon was recruited.

This is not an espionage/covert operations mission, even though you can run it like one.
We're playing a mix of US Marshals hunting a fugitive and a NEST team looking for radiation; sneakiness would be nice, but its not strictly speaking necessary. Actually coming prepared for the problem, however is mandatory.

Dont get me wrong, BMI is a great charm, and under different circumstances, Id be voting for it.
But under these? In this scenario?
It doesnt really help.

I looked at it. I want it. I very much want it.
I cant afford to drop 8xp on it this turn.

It's scene-long. It's not bad for infiltration purposes, yes. Spend 2 XP (charm + excellency) and walk in. Some of the wording in ambiguous, such as what distressing means (because in principle, us being in a restricted area is distressing to the guards).

I have to think.

It also works in a more defensive manner.
Say if you are surrounded by cops.

You pop it and walk away.
Even if they find that distressing, most won't have the 5+ WP to react and the few that have will still have to make a roll and can't get their friends to help them arrest you.

Same works for any mook-group that is not particularly strong of will on the average.

Considering the example of killing a love one I would expect that distressing acts would be things that violate an intimacy. This is supported by the fact that it still costs a willpower to resist the effect. People don't spend willpower on things that they don't deeply care about.

Uhh, guys. Plan "Speak Fervently and Have Reliable Defence" does not work on math, unless I am missing something. Lydia has 6 base XP (it's rounded down, I got confirmation). We only have 27 XP to spend on Molly. @uju32 plan also doesn't work.

Actually... just checked and it seems that per votes like this one we have rounded up previously, so yeah Lydia gets one more XP sorry for the confusion. I'll add this to the rule post.

28XP
Total XP: 2 (Unspent) + 26 (Earned this Arc) = 28

Can I get a cite for the rounded down? I thought it was rounded up at 0.5 or greater?

Ninja'd by QM.

Even without overt Red influence in Vegas, the rest of my points still stand and the argument isn't really much weaker, IMO.
There's actually a much easier way to ignore law-enforcement and other mortals, near-mortals and basically anything without serious mental defences:
This is the situation on the ground, as relayed to us by Maeve:

"Hmm—" she takes a long pull of the cigarette, thin blue smoke taking flight like misshapen birds from her lips. "Not the kind your father might be interested, he's merely called that. He is a Vampire of the Red Court, a count, perhaps he would me more, but he cannot leave for the weight of his true master's chains."

She is practically vibrating with eagerness for you to ask the obvious question, heck at this point she would probably take a question from one of the elves, but alas for her they have all taken the sensible path of staying clear and avoiding eye contact at all costs.

"Wait, you said court. This false 'Dragon', the vampire, he is operating openly?"

"Openly, defiantly," the Lady of Winter snarls as the cigarette is starting to smoke alarmingly the tip smoldering blue.

"Why hasn't the White Council done anything about such a high ranking member of the Red Court in a seemingly exposed position?" you ask careful of the minefield you may be walking into.

"Ha, good one, a bunch of doddering old fools dealing with one whose master staves off Winter itself," she laughs, catches herself. For a moment you can practically see the wheels spinning behind her bright blue gaze, damage control kicking into high gear. "I say this to you due to sharing common foes and out of respect for thine deeds."

Instinctively you know she would take even polite agreement with suspicion, mounting annoyance at the acknowledgement of her weakness. "Sure, sure, what does this have to do with that bitch Sandra?"

Lost 1 Essence -> Now at 13/15

She laughs, shakes her head as if to clear it and starts again. "The Dragon's been there since 1905, this dragon at least, but his liege's been there since the youth of the world when men were just another hunter in the deserts and scrub lands. Ever wondered why among all the boring names this country has, or worse the insipidly 'inspiring' meant to trick some cretin to go out west and die to dysentery there's a place called Death Valley still on the maps?"

"The false dragon's master?" you prompt when it becomes clear she is not going to keep going without audience participation.

"You wish. No this was something from Outside, a being, a pathway, maybe both, Those old medicine men knew enough to be afraid for their lives and souls, for the lives and souls of their children and grandchildren unborn. So they called up a spirit of darker sort a sin eater and they bid it to hold the gate shut, bidding it to devour the unworthy who came close."

"There is a sin eater under Las Vegas?" you ask with dawning understanding, and not a little horror.

Lost 1 Essence -> Now at 12/15 (Occult Excellency)

"Yeah, turns out holding fast the gates of madness can't be done on the strength of eating the odd shifty wanderer forever.
Back in 1905 the spirit started getting antsy, get weary maybe. He offered old bat ears a bargain: power, wealth, blood and sex, the works if he would help build a city of sin to feed it into the spirits black heart. Yeah, that's right, middle aged execs blowing their kids' college funds on coke and call girls have been keeping one of the backdoors of reality safe. 'Just one more round of blackjack,' they cried and the world got to keep spinning one more day." Maeve giggles."The Dragon's a cup-bearer, no more and no less, but it gives him great power in his domain, enough that it would be difficult to shift him and even if we did..."

"Your prize would be brand new front, assuming the changeover would even work out cleanly," you finish mind whirling with dark imaginings. "I assume you sent a message about what Sandra is." Truth be told you would not put it past Maeve to not have done that just so she would have her vengeance, but Mab has more sense than her daughter.

"The message has been sent, no answer has been received. Don't know what the old vamp of Vegas is playing at, but Sandra is still there and a Winter warband not be welcome to deal with her. The only fey in the city are a band of wyldfae who are part of his game. But none of that applies to you... You are new. I want you to chase Sandra out of the city so we can both have a piece. I'll consider that a favor to be repaid in kind."
In order:
  • There is a Gate, a Rift under Las Vegas that leads to the Outside
  • The Sin-Eater is holding those Gates shut, and gets power from the shenanigans in Vegas to do so
  • The Dragon runs Vegas at its behest in order to keep the Sin-Eater powered up
  • Sandra is apparently there in the Dragon's court
  • The Dragon didnt reply to a Winter Court missive; whether he didnt get the message, is wilfully ignoring it, or he is under some sort of duress, we dont know.

This is a Social and Occult mission.
Social to pry her loose from the Dragon's court, and Occult when whatever she's going in Vegas near the Gates blows up in our face. Its Combat if the Dragon is under Sandra's influence.

It isnt covert ops. We dont need a perfect defense here.

We need the social standing to enter the Dragon's court and make an impression, and an anonymous face cant do it.
We dont really benefit from walking around incognito in the city, as opposed to throwing our weight around and making the Dragon aware that he has the attention of a heavy hitter in his city.

And if we bring anyone with us, like Lydia, who doesnt have a disguise ability, there's no real point, or Black Rider?
Our presence will be noticed anyway.

Holy fuck. How many differ plans are there right now?

It's kind of hard to choose because people seem to have differ interpretations of the same charms even, so you can't feel knowledgable by just reading the proposed charm's description to understand its relevance. You then have to read everyone's back and forth on how the charm "actually works" afterwords e_e.

Thinking of sitting this one out but the votes tend to be close enough that even a single one matters so I know I'd regret it.

"Reading a diary" is also given as an example. A devoted / loyal guard would be distressed by an intruder, if only because there's a danger of losing their job.
Actually... just checked and it seems that per votes like this one we have rounded up previously, so yeah Lydia gets one more XP sorry for the confusion. I'll add this to the rule post.
Ok, great. That works then.

Still, ok, let's try this:

[X] Plan Appropriate Wherever I go
-[X] Molly: 28 XP
--[X] Anonymity Through Propriety: 8 XP
--[X] Calling the Calibration Gate: 10 XP
--[X] Source Code Compliance Protocol: 4 XP
--[X] Alertness 1: 3 XP
--[X] Ox Body: 3 XP
-[X] Lydia: 7 XP
--[X] Mo Kung/Demon Fighter (•) (Training Discount): 2xp
--[X] Willpower 6: 5 XP

Ok, so, this is an alternative approach to out problems. ATP for avoiding fights and getting stealth. Alertness to somewhat correct the sensory issues. Ox body in case there's a fight. SCCP for communication and other benefits. CCG for transportation. Importantly - it's more suited for traveling with companions.

No perfect defense, we can get this next turn. We have good non-perfect defenses, and anti-shaping. Buff up with Ox Body, and only then spend on perfects.

This is exactly what I am talking about you will come up with some specific unlikely threat and fear monger about how we are doomed if we don't buy some exact thing to counter it. What if we jump through the rift! Come on. We have no reason to even get close to it.

Or a single trapped Outsider of great power.
Unsure which.

We need the social standing to enter the Dragon's court and make an impression, and an anonymous face cant do it.
An anonymus face with that Charm active could do it.
Again, if only the boss and maybe a few elite-minions can acknowledge your existence, you work by different rules.
With a bit of luck we could even blackbag Sarah in open daylight and nobody could notice.

My plan is the only one that appears to be actually focused at dealing with the current issue.
Everyone else seems to have ignored the whole "Backdoor to Reality" problem in Vegas.

Or a single trapped Outsider of great power.

Maeve explicitly says Gates of Madness and Backdoor to Reality in the quote I provided.
So nope.

An anonymus face with that Charm active could do it.

1) Sandra ended up here.
There's a good chance she's been here for the last six months, since attempting to ruin Molly's life.
She hasnt been idle. Ignoring whatever she's been doing will blow up in our face.

2) She's what oWoD would term a Nephandus. A highranking one, one trusted enough to know when Maeve was Nfested.
Effective enough that Uriel had to act to derail one of her plots.

Looking at the sourcebooks?
Dollars to donuts the Investments she has available would allow her to teabag a vampire elder.
Socially AND physically.

We arent blackbagging her on any street.
