Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Oh well 3. Fairly sure we have never gotten more than 3 xp for a single action.
Wonder if we can get more than three for a particularly important boss like if we killed a god, a fallen angel, a dragon(really bad idea this one though part of me expects harry to do it in the dragon book maybe), or heck even just an integral to the story character like Nicodemus or the white king I guess though hes more a patsy for the last what several books in real life.

No I said in a single action as in a single thing we did.
  1. Battle against the Akuma (Base/ All Prisoners Rescued/Lydia Tore open the Gate/Greater Akuma True Killed in single combat) 5 XP
This is the highest I found for a single scene, I think that's how he condenses things rather than an 'action' necessarily. But for highest single action, I remember recently discovering the guy running the pub was an angel counted for 3 exp.

Oh then we'd probably get more than 5 for killing someone really important. I hope at least.

Uju32. I repeat. Dragonparadox specifically said we are going for shorter arcs. So we cannot use the old arcs as a basis.
I'll take your word for it; I dont recall any such thing.
Anyway, it doesnt appear to be the length of the arc, so much as the opposition we face during it and what we accomplish.
A little math:
Not really an issue.

If you check every story arc to date, this was the very first story arc since Arc 1 where Molly has failed to make more than 20xp, and that was because the entire arc happened over one day and two social encounters, with 1 chase scene.
The prologue arc also took less than a day.

There does seem to be a negative correlation between xp per post and our longer arcs.

Arc 8 Post 1: Spooky Action at a Distance
Spooky Action at a Distance

1st of November 2006 A.D.

That morning you practically bounce out of bed feeling like not just taking on the world, but knocking it out in one punch. You feel... not more powerful exactly, more comfortable in your own skin maybe? That's closer but the feeling isn't quite that personal. It's like wearing in new running shoes to where you feel you can go faster, further. Quickly getting dressed and going over the day's classes in your head and the excuses you are going to use for the lack of homework if called on, you get dressed for school and go down to the kitchen. Judging from the lavender smell that hits your nostrils before you even get into the kitchen Mom had decided to clean away her jitters from last night away, and those had been some serious jitters since she waxed the floor.

Essence at 15/15
Willpower at 8/9

"'Morning," you offer a vaguely apologetic smile. "Need some help?"

She waves you off. "There's some good things to say about not sleeping."

"I do excellent work," you announce, nose literally in the air, the joking exaggeration veiling very real satisfaction. There is way too much work to be done and way too few hours in the day to do it.

Two fried eggs, milk orange juice, four pieces of toast, eight bacon strips and two boxes of cereal, one dinosaur shaped, one bee shaped later everything is ready the table for the rest of the family to arrive while mom finishes up.

Dad and Daniel drift in first as the rest are probably still sleeping off the sugar crash when mom's phone goes off in the other room and a Hope shouts: "Mom, it's for you!"

If she had stopped there nothing more extraordinary would have happened at breakfast today, but alas Hope is feeling as helpful. She grabs the phone and runs in on slippered feet, too focused on her quest of reuniting phone and owner before it stops ringing to pay attention to the warnings about the floor the rest of you are shouting. She slides backwards wheeling her arms to no effect as the phone flies out of her hand on a direct course for the window.

Something clicks in your head, reaching, grasping. Phone and girl are both frozen, floating mid air shrouded in soft green light. kind of like your flying now unarmored from the anchor of your body. Before anyone can say anything you gently float the phone over to mom and tip Hope the right way out.

"Woah, I'm flying!" Oh, right, you had not actually set her down, you realize and do so.

Inevitably that brief release from the bounds of gravity is followed by: "Can you fly me around some more, please?" Because six year olds have not finished growing out either their skulls or their common sense.

"No!" bursts out from your mother, followed by a more level, but still firm. "Listen to your mother," from your father.

Hope is very grumpy at her cereal afterwards though judging from the furtive looks Amanda is planning to ask you about it later

What do you do?
6+1 AP Available (Extra AP from not sleeping may only be used to add progress)

School
Not that many months to go

[] Attend school you have friends at school and you would like the memories of senior year and graduation even if they won't be teaching you anything worthwhile (If neither School nor getting your GED is chosen Molly will systematically skip class)
[] Get your GED and get out, on the other hand you can think of better things to to with your time (Costs 2 AP, frees you from spending anymore actions on school)

Finances and Infrastructure
Though you are not tight for money you can think of places to make more

[] In the Sky a Thousand Eyes: If you see something you can stick a demon in it. It occurs to you that satellites are definitely something you can see with the right tools, though you are going to have to figure out which ones you want and what orders to give them.

[] A Big Score, your Crown isn't really made for picking out random numbers in a mundane draw, but it is still your power so you can push it that one time to win a lottery... any lottery. You will have to find the balance between payout and anonymity and some place to park the money but that seems reasonably doable with some help from mom and dad, and unlike some of your other plans they are unlikely to object to this form of cheating at gambling

[] Masterworks for money, you can make gems, you can make gold, you can make fine watches, heck you can make a light airplane from scrap if you really put in the hours, though that would be overkill you think. Now cars maybe... yeah restoring cars could work. Or you could turn your lie to Izzy into truth and work with dad
-[] All that glitters, ye old dream of making gold from lead, now with radiation
-[] Small marvels, craft jewelry, watches, what have you
-[] The family trade, dad already works with wood, you can work with wood, getting paid by your parents isn't exactly the most glamorous thing, but it would probably go smoother with him handling all the marketing stuff so you can just use your hell tools to make stuff
-[] Resurrection from Rust, you could walk into a junkyard and drive out with a car given enough time, though you are not sure how the paperwork for that would work out

[] It's not cheating if you are just that good, illegal gambling is apparently one of those things John Marcone has a lock on. You have a buy-in now, all you have to do is not lose... and not draw too much attention to yourself

[] Tools Redeemed: Thinking back on that paraphernalia you looted from the Fomori tantalizing insights come to mind... and more immediately relevant it will mean you can finally stop mooching of Harry's equipment. (Gain Alchemy Laboratory Halved XP price for reaching Alchemy 4)

[] Night's Sword: Dangerous are the swords forged in Kakuri Wan, living darkness given edge, but you do not fear to bear one who wears a mantle of that realm's endless chill. What are its secrets you wonder, how might it be used?

Investigations
There's apparently a cannibal cult on the loose, someone is mucking around with the White Court and your old friend is probably a servant of Cthulhu, situation normal.

[] Look into the Minor Talents of Chicago, so far you have been isolated from the supernatural scene of Chicago, now that you can get in touch with them without necessarily having your dad with you all the time the time has come to change that... though given how both Mouse and McCoy thought you were bad news at first maybe you should bring dad or Harry along to some of them just as an introduction
-[] Alphas, friends of Harry, close to you in age and they work to keep monsters off the street near the University, they sounds really cool
-[] Friends in Low places, she might work for Marcone but Grad was really cool and you are curious about her. Fortunately you remember the number dad dialed to get in touch with Marcone
-[] Spirit Speaker, Mortimer Lindquist is the real deal, a real medium among the fakes and unlike Pauline he is good enough at it, or just good enough at marketing to make a job of it. His books are pretty cool as well

[] A friend in need. You promised Rosie that you would help and so you will, with problems material and ethereal
-[] Dreaming True, Rosie is doing great so far, but she still needs more training before she can get a proper hold of her powers (2/10 progress )
-[] Talking to the family, you do not like Mrs Wilsom and the feeling is mutual, but as your experience at church yesterday showed you do not have to like someone to turn on the supernatural charm. Maybe you could work something out, or at least explain some of what her daughter is going through
-[] An Eye for Charity, there have to be some kind of charities willing to help young women in Rosie's situation, you and your electronic friends can surely find them and then you can have a talk with them to give her some options

[] Blackest Name: In the final ritual to help Arawn you invoked something old and hungry, something that seemed to resonate with the purpose of the ritual, its name writ in a long forgotten tongue. Thanks to Bob you now know it involves the would-be-Draculas of the supernatural world, the Black Court. Maybe Lydia can help

[] Seek Siriothrax's hoard: Two decades ago your father was called to slay a Dragon, a being of incarnate power new mortals have faced and lived, by faith and by skill the creature was slain and your mother saved, but its treasure and its body were never claimed. Your breath catches to think of that you might be able to do with either, if you can claim them.

[] The Worst Wingwoman: Apparently Sandra had set you up to break the Laws of Magic as part of a plot against Harry and probably dad as well come to that. It's about time you find her and have a talk to her about that

[] The Seeker Sought given that you can teleport now maybe you can find a Medicine Man of the blood to deal with the Naagloshii. Given what you know of Broken Seeker and his... people now perhaps they would be more inclined to help you deal with them. Even if you do not find any takers you can deal with him.

Personal Training
You have been progressing in leaps and bounds in the study of the Qiao and you have been... exploding bottles less often in the study of alchemy. In both cases you are eager to learn more.

[] The Bridges of the Spirit, continue your training with Brother Divsimar not in the ways of the spirit but the mind, the Bridge of Dreams

[] Trading in lore, you have started down the path of learning alchemy from Bob... and revealing some of the deepest secrets of Yomi Wan, both very good things as far as you are concerned. (0/25)

Arcane Allies
For better or for ill you are starting to get a reputation in Chicago, best make sure it is more the former than the latter, at least with the more reasonable and trustworthy powers. As for the people who are neither... well you certainly seem to have an impact on them

[] Restoring the Last Station: Restoration efforts have been going well and according to Adam some more of the people down in the tunnels have shown interest in their newfound wealth and comfort (6/10)

[] Cauldron Bubble, your new friends in the Ordo Lebetis could use more help, maybe not as... enthusiastic as the last time, but they are small fish in a very big and scary pond
-[] See what's up with Helen, there is something eating away at Helen you are sure of it, something dark and strange, dark and strange is your specialty
-[] Online presence, one of the few advantages of minor talents over more powerful magicians is that they are more up to date with technology and less likely to make it explode. See if you can convince the others to set up a strong online presence, maybe even recruiting

[] Chariots for the One Eye: As part of her deal to ally against the Will of Kakuri you promised Odin vehicles hit for his warriors, time to show your chops.

[] The Green and the White: You agreed not just to a non-aggression pact with the White Court, but also making it public so no one gets any ideas about challenging Lara. That means going to... some kind of public event with the vampires. From what Bela tells you it's going to be stuffy as heck.

[] Contact the Librarians: Having handed them a bunch of Akuma it might be worth poking them to see what they have been up to and maybe find out more about Daedalus before they make another mess.

[] Fey Trade: Something tells you the Winter Fey would be very interested in the jar full of dreams you know is called gossamer and of course you have those favors yet to spent. Winter is mighty, Winter is knowledgeable... and Winter is still owed a favor from Harry. All this is stuff you could get off them if you were minded to.

Family time
As much else as you have to do, it's nice to spend some time with your family and it is rarely boring hanging out.

[] Heart to Heart, talk to your mother about what you guesses and what dad told you about her history, better to try to get it all in the open than to constantly try to step around that landmine. There is a lot more magic in your future, that much is for sure.

[] So about those studies: Ask Daniel if he would like to come along when you learn from Bob, it would probably be more efficient than trying to hide books from mom

[] Just relax: It's your birthday this month, surely that's a good reason to relax a little. Do you want to have a party?

OOC: I did remember the satellite action after all, if there is anything else I forgot or you guys just want to add don't hesitate to ask.

I. Want. Thaaaat.

Let's see:

-Rosie is important.

-We should do our job for Odin, better not wait too long.

-Last station as always.

-We should ho see the Librarians and what they're doing with our prisoners, this is time limited.

-Heart to heart with Charity?

-Break from martial arts this month?

-Sandra may be something we want to act on fast, she's liable to unfortunately slip down some stairs while having a knife in her hands that ends up in her back otherwise. If it didn't already happen, in which case better to act when the trail is hot.

-Seeker, now, some where afraid of what the Naagloshi would do, may as well get a hard counter for it then.

Hmm, annoying, what to replace with school there?

Guess it'll be the heart to heart.

[x] Plan: why did I do this on a phone….
-[x] Attend school
-[x] A friend in need.
--[x] Dreaming True
-[x] The Worst Wingwoman
-[x] The Seeker Sought
-[x] Restoring the Last Station
-[x] Chariots for the One Eye
-[x] Contact the Librarians

Updated the front page. In addition to all the stuff you guys voted on Lydia also went up in Essence since she is part of your Circle* and has done some pretty impressive things herself

*Well actually a term for Exalts of different sorts acting in concert outside the hierarchy of the Creation Ruling Mandate is an Atrocity, but who's going to remember that in this age :V

Quickly getting dressed and going over the day's classes in your head and the excuses you are going to use for the lack of homework if called on...
Molly: "Sorry, teacher, I was-"

Teacher: "Ms. Carpenter, how many times do I have to tell you 'Out saving the world' is not an acceptable excuse?"

@DragonParadox , before I make a vote, two questions:
1) Previously you said that with magical coffee we got additional AP, but those could only be used to advance projects we already started. I.e. it's not 7 AP, but 6 AP for different options, and we can spend 2 AP on one of those projects. Is this still in play, or did you change your mind? Your concern was, if I recall correctly, slowing down the pace of turns. If you are doing smaller arcs now, that might not be an issue.
2) How does Mind-Hand Manipulation affect craft? The charm text says:
System: After a moment spent in concentration,
the Infernal spends 1 Essence and rolls her Intelligence
+ Occult against difficulty 6
. This Charm remains
active for the rest of the scene, and allows her
to telekinetically lift and move objects within her line
of sight. If she tries to wrest an object away from another
character, or perform fine manipulations, her
successes form her dice pool to do so
.
Fine manipulation is pretty much the definition of Craft. So, having MHM active should give us bonuses to Craft actions, since it gives us a tool that not even TTC can replicate (telekinesis can allow for manipulation otherwise impossible). However, our average amount of successes (and, thus, dice pool as per charm text) is >19 ((4 Int + 5 Occult)*2 Excellency + 2 WHWH at DC 3 because CCC and BSM). Adding 19 dice to our craft rolls can be problematic, I understand (even if I desperately want this to work like that, so we can have true exalted craft with > 40 dice pools). So, how would you handle this?

"Successes form her dice pool" sounds to me like it would replace, not add to dice pool.

  1. Yes, thanks for reminding me and changed over, if anything the fact that we just had a three day arc underscores that concern
  2. It helps you work on bigger stuff sort of like you were a Solar with the Supernal version of Craftsman Needs No Tools

Can we introduce Rosie to the Cooking Pot?

It'd be good for her to have a more "normal" supernatural contact than Molly.

@DragonParadox Sandra Marling hunt option?

Not sure about that. Actually, it would be better to delay checking in on prisoners. If there's abuse / experimentation / foolish men reaching beyond their station going on, it's better to give them time for it to happen before we check. Otherwise we might miss it simply because they didn't have time to get to it.
-Heart to heart with Charity?
I view Rosie's family as a good practice run for handling Charity in-character. Handle Rosie's family issues, since we have a level of detachment there. Use the experience to talk with Charity.
-Sandra may be something we want to act on fast, she's liable to unfortunately slip down some stairs while having a knife in her hands that ends up in her back otherwise. If it didn't already happen, in which case better to act when the trail is hot.
Depends on if she's a lowly slave of some shadowy masters, or a co-conspirator herself.

"Successes form her dice pool" sounds to me like it would replace, not add to dice pool.
They form the dice pool for MHM manipulation. But MHM manipulation doesn't replace our usual toolset, it adds to it. We get a tool, called MHM, which has 19 dice for fine manipulation. We can still use our hands and TTC constructs in conjunction to MHM. So, it should add, if not a full pool, then something, rather that replace what we have.

Interesting, and your decision, though I find it a bit strange to be honest. TTC, at least on my reading and how we were using it, was one of the few charms that Infernals had that was superior to their Solar equivalents. I mean, the description of Supernal version of CNNT is:
Supernal Effect: If working in relative seclusion
without distractions from the outside world, the Solar
may not only waive the Essence cost to work without
tools, she may dream up a dozen or so assistants and
heavy machinery such as cranes and hydraulic lifts
from
the depths of her anima to assist her with her work. This
allows her to work twenty times faster than normal, and
to undertake projects that should be impossible for a
lone craftswoman to attempt. These phantoms vanish
if the world intrudes on the Solar's labor-trance to any
greater degree than, say, a Circlemate stepping in to
leave her coffee and a plate of lunch.
That's how we were using TTC in the story already - diamond making tools are pretty large, and so were welding setups for the submarine and the car assembly line. The other part I am having a bit of trouble with is "work on bigger stuff". Yes, it obviously should help working on bigger stuff, but it should be damn helpful on small scale as well, which is why I highlighted "fine manipulation" thing. By having access to precise telekinesis, we open up a lot of small scale construction possiblities otherwise impossible. You can place screws in places you physically can't get to with a wrench if you have telekinesis to tighten them. Hold hair-thin messes of wires in the air to solder them. Pull cables through curved small holes. Fix stuff in place, push things together, etc. Basically, while yes, it would be useful for large projects, it should really shine in stuff like clockmaking. And if you go precise enough, you get into chemistry and manual molecular assembly in-vivo.

But that's up to you. I certainly wouldn't object to X2 speed increase.
