Well, personally I'd like to obtain the ability to see dirt from previous vote. Should be easy enough to get and have good utility for example tracking (follow dirty footsteps on clean floors, see fingerprints on objects, detect traps from cleaned messes and if we get the X-ray enhancement see people through walls unless they have literally taken a shower beforehand).
This seems like a good time to discuss what exactly are our plans for our resident Cleaning Mage are. What should we prioritize learning right now? What should we be working towards getting in the future?
I'm thinking for our next three upgrades we get the enhanced cleaning tools for offence. Generally speaking, normal mages aren't that durable since Lucy can beat them up using a whip, and later on, melee combat becomes increasingly prevalent. Then we get some sort of defensive option, I'm thinking bubbles or soap sud since manipulating durable bubbles can be used in a variety of ways, much like Make magic. Then we get the Dirt Vision.
That's why my plan (Grease and tracking) would have had us buy grenades as a short term offensive option. At this low-level though, defense seems to be more "don't get hit" unless the mage's specialty has a defensive aspect.
Which reminds me. I read a while back (and admittedly am not 100% sure of it's relationship with Canon) that the mage fighting as portrayed by Natsu (and by extension, Canon Fairy Tail so about 8 years from now) is a relatively new thing and that before, mage's were more stereotypical glass cannons focusing more on overwhelming enemies with magic than actually fighting them. This is why in the beginning of the series we had mundane mercenaries that specialized in anti-mage work ( =evading magic and killing the squishy caster) while later everyone was mages.

I don't think that's 100% true, Makarov could literally turn himself into a giant after all, plus Gildarts was a thing before Natsu. So I don't think mage hand-to-hand combat was something relatively new. I do think it was uncommon among non-Fairy Tail affiliated mages though. Plus, those mundane mercenaries still used magic, it was just that their magic was primarily used to cancel out the opponent's magic. The frying pan they used to cancel out Fire magic was undoubtedly a magic item seeing as it didn't reflect Natsu's fire back at him, but instead absorbed Natsu's flames before sending new stronger flames back at him, thus explaining why Natsu could eat those flames despite normally being unable to consume his own fire.
You also have to remember that not all Mages are affiliated with guilds or take on quests. I assume many of them focus on research or pursue lines of work that their magic would make them good at, like becoming a carpenter if you practised Wood Make magic, and don't run into combat all that often.
Honestly, considering Agnes' loadout, I feel that dodging/evading is a better defensive measure than any kind of shield for now. Sliding around on her own cleaning solution and making others slip up as they attack, thus messing up their aim. So the current training option sounds good for that.
After that... well, I think increased density in the ethernano-brooms and assorted creations is our best bet to get a weapon. I also liked that other idea with the flying broom; it makes for good utility and on top of that, hitting a flying target is much harder than hitting a running one; combine with them not finding any purchase on the slippery ground and it becomes rather unlikely for opponents to hit at all.
So either of those two next, preferably the flight. I feel we are better off preparing to dodge and run away first instead of going all-in on trying to win.

I do agree that with our level of training in Cleaning Magic, using conjured cleaning tools are our best bet for attacking people. Unfortunately, since that means we don't have a dedicated ranged method of attacking, we'll have to enter melee range when we try to go on the offensive. Hence why I would like to be more durable than an average 14-year-old child with some sort of shield.
For now, dodging and running away will suffice, I'm sure. I'm just wary of when we'll find ourselves in a situation where we either can't or won't.

I get where you are coming from, but as I said, it feels better to get the essentials down first; which is a way to run away and survive to me, not a way to 'win'. Else we might end up in a constant loop of "Agnes' combat is not good enough, we need to practice it more" and get nothing else done.
I agree on a shield, but not as one of the first things we pick. If need be, she could probably use her summoned buckets as a buffer on that end, too.

I do agree with you on that. But if we want to focus on just survival for now, shouldn't we put off enhance cleaning tools until we want to commit to fighting instead of running away? If that's the case, then the new list of priorities would be Flying Broom then Defense, followed by the dirt vision or enhanced cleaning tools.

That is a good point, though I might prefer to switch dirt vision and defense around. But that is me being all over utility... and as someone else pointed out, being able to see people through walls would make for really good utility in a fight.
But yes, Flight -> Defense/Sight -> Enhanced Tools sounds like a good progression. Though I would like to hear some more opinions on that matter just to be sure.
We've had 4 rolls in this quest so far and three exploding crits? @Saturday how many do you think we need to get before you give us Luck Magic for free?
There will be 'practice your magic' options available every so often. In them, you can either improve existing magic or try to create new ones.
The more specific and well-thought-out the process behind the improvement/creation of a magic, the better. (Lower DCs and a better foundation to branch out from)
The way that it is going to work is that for every 'step' of the training, a DC will have to be passed. When passed, you can move on to the next step of the training.
If a roll fails, then the training will end at that step, the DC decreasing a bit to show that you did learn something
Some steps will have impossible to meet DCs, basically meaning that what you are attempting is pretty/very/extremely hard and that you have to attempt it multiple times before even having a chance get it.
Quoted from the mechanics page. This probably means that Flight Magic would probably have a higher DC to learn unless we already know magic that we could develop into Flight Magic, or we study up on how flight magic works.

Yep. Then again, I think the lowered DC thing also relates to the written-in action having some kind of relation or basic idea.
So I would guess that just learning to fly around would have a higher DC than making Agnes' brooms fly, seeing that she already has the latter at hand and knows how to manifest their basic form, making this more of an alteration to their properties than something completely new.
You know, thinking about it, do we want to give Agnes Dirt Vision? Because being able to see every single speck of dirt and dust in a room is going to trigger her clean freak tendencies so hard.
Well however she looks like by the end, assuming she's joining Fairy Tail, lots of collateral damage is in our future. Most likely due to her being a little overenthusiastic about her cleaning.
Actually, we might as well discuss this now, does anyone specifically want to avoid joining Fairy Tail?
[x][Plan] Go check out Madame Muniqué's Quest. While a bit eccentric, she did seem to be pretty genuine.
[x][Plan] Knowing what's going on in the world is always a good thing. Go listen to Muniqué's station, 'What's Going On Today?'
I would actually prefer not to join Fairy Tale itself; that might just pull us into a stations of canon scenario. Then again, there might be a lot to work with during the seven year time skip... and I doubt Agnes would even qualify for most of the high-level stuff that Natsu's team gets up to. Hm.
In general however, I think I would rather have Agnes joining one of the other guilds. Maybe Lamia Scale or Mermaid Heel (though I am not sure the latter exists at this point). So we can see more of them.
Just... not Blue Pegasus. I really do not want to have any exposure to Ichiya if at all possible... then again, this is an AU. Maybe he was turned into more of an actual character instead of a joke with agency, or does not exist at all.
I'm all for joining and having more chances to interact with main plot events and the like. There aren't many active Fairy Tail Quests/stories as-is, so I don't particularly see a need to go against the grain. Besides, Agnes is definitely quirky enough to fit in.
If a more interesting suggestion does come up, I'm all for it. I don't particularly see a need to hug canon and the main cast if it isn't where the fun is, either.
Short answer: no, I don't want to avoid Agnes joining Fairy Tail. I'm honestly in favor of her joining it, as things are.
I'm in favor of joining Fairy Tail mostly because of Saturday's spiel on FT's lack of character development in the first post of the thread. It'd be nice to see how they handle how Natsu and the others grow and change over time in this quest.

That is actually a good point. I guess I should amend my own position to saying that I am not against joining Fairy Tail, even though I would still prefer giving one of the other guilds some time in the spotlight.
But in case we do join FT... I would prefer to not become a regular part of the main team (Natsu and friends) but rather remain on the side and do a plotline of our own instead of following theirs around. Maybe pick up one or two other low-power members to form a separate team.
Or, in short, I am fine with anything as long as it does not turn into stations of canon. Or being near Ichiya.
Heck, if it felt in-character, I would not even be opposed to joining a Dark Guild instead.

004: Quest for Knowledge
- - - - -
It was early the next day. You were holding the quest flyer that Madame Muniqué had foisted upon you, squinting at the address that had been written in unnecessarily cursive letters.
"This seems right..." you say to yourself, looking up from the flyer to see the address emblazoned on a simple bronze sign. Right next to it, a dirt road winds up into dense forest, quickly disappearing from view.
With how Madame Muniqué had been dressed, plus the whole butler thing, you had thought she would be living in some megamansion right in the heart of Oshibana's royal district. You hadn't thought she would stay in a log cabin in a forest way outside of Oshibana proper at all!
But eh, it's not like it really matters to you all that much anyway. You quickly start your way down the dirt path. Hopefully, you would get the details of the quest and be out of here soon enough, you still had other things to do after all!

"More tea or biscuits dear?" says Madame Muniqué, holding a plate of the aforementioned cookies out to you.
You inwardly scream, "No thank you, I'm good. I'm still full from the five-course meal we just had after all."
"Oh, but look at you dear! Why you're as thin as a stick! Please, have another biscuit." she replies, forcing a biscuit into your hands.
You sigh heavily, looking up to see Madame Monique smiling encouragingly at you. You take a disgruntled bite of the biscuit in response.
After a few seconds of chewing, you swallow the admittedly delicious snack. Then, for the tenth time in a row, you try to steer the topic of conversation back to the quest.
"-ike I was saying, it gets so dreary being anywhere near the hustle and bu-"
"So do you not really visit town that much? Was yesterday something of a special occasion?" you say, butting into yet another tangent that Madame Monique had gone on.
The woman doesn't seem to notice or react to your somewhat rude interruption. Instead, she smiles and says "Ah yes! You could say that it is a bit of a special occasion. I've been needing some packages to be delivered for some time now. While I could probably get them there through the post, I thought I'd be much better if I allowed a young witch or wizard to go instead. Give them a chance to see the different guilds before they choose one you see."
"See the different guilds?" you repeat, a hint of suspicion sneaking into your voice. "...Where exactly would I need to be delivering these packages?"
"Oh, it's nothing too hard, the railways go to all of the necessary towns after all!"
You reword the question, "But which towns are those in the first place? More importantly, who do I need to deliver the packages to?"
Madame Monique gives you a bright grin, very clearly proud of herself for helping a new witch in such a way. "There are three packages in total. One goes to Master Anna of Mermaid Heel, another to Master Jose of Phantom Lord, and the final one is for Master Makarov of Fairy Tail."
You faint.
When you wake up, do you accept the quest? [][Quest] Of course, this was a chance like no other!
[][Quest] A soap bubble had a better chance in hell than of you accepting this quest.

You are currently sitting underneath a tree near the outskirts of town, far enough away that you wouldn't cause trouble when practicing your magic.
While you didn't believe that Cleaning Magic was in any way weak, you understood that it wasn't exactly a powerhouse magic. Going head to head with a more physical magic-user would almost certainly result in your loss. That's why you had to be clever about it.
An idea had been formulating in your mind for a while now. Every magic-user worth their salt needed a way to cover ground fast. After all, what good was the strongest of magics if you always arrived too late to use it? Plus, being able to straight-up outmaneuver enemies was always good.
With this in mind, you tug off your shoes and socks.
"Alright. Step one. Generate solution from feet. Can't be any more difficult than doing it with my hands, right?"
Sitting there, you concentrate as hard as you possibly can.
Since there is a well thought out plan for the creation of this magic, all DCs have been reduced by 10!
[ 1d100 + 5(Stubborn) = 34 ] #Using magic with your feet
DC 50->40: Fail.
Base DC decreased from 50 to 40, which the plan will further reduce to 30.
You sit there for an inordinately long time, probably looking pretty stupid the entire while. No matter how hard you try, nothing seems to be happening! You could generate solution from your hands with nary a thought by this point, so why wasn't this working?!
No, you could do this. Once again closing your eyes, you concentrate.
Another hour passes, with results just as bad as before. Feeling a bit angry, you stand up in a huff, pulling on your socks and shoes before stomping off. You would get this someday, you swore that. It just wasn't today, that's it.

"Please?"
"No."
"Pretty please?"
"I said no."
"With liquid detergent on top?"
"With liquid wha- never mind it doesn't matter. The answer is no. I have better things to do."
You pout at the firm rejection from the Magic Council employee, the third one in as many minutes. How hard was it to get someone to explain some things to a friendly face like yours? All you wanted was a quick rundown of the important Guilds and some other basic information!
Taking a second to recenter yourself, you go and join another line. Eventually one of them would have to listen to your demands!
As you wait in line, growing more bored by the second, a hand taps your shoulder. You turn and face the person, noting that they are a heavily built man maybe a decade and a half older than you, with a mane of scruffy blonde hair tied up in a ponytail. After a few seconds of staring, you realize that it is a familiar face
"Hey! You're the guy who had given me the registration form yesterday! Barry or something right? You're looking way less tired today!" you say with a smile.
Barry (hey you guessed right!) chuckles, rubbing the back of his head bashfully and saying "Let's just say I had a pretty crazy night the day before yesterday and leave it at that." He gestures you to follow him to a small table in the corner. "But enough about me, I've been watching you harass Council employees for the last thirty minutes. What gives?"
The two of you take a seat, with you giving a relieved sigh the moment you sit down completely. "I've just got a couple of things I need to know! No one is giving me the time of day!"
"Well, what do you need to know?" says Barry, an amused glint in his eyes.
"I need a complete rundown on the current guild climate in Fiore, with an emphasis put on the Mermaid Heel, Phantom Lord, and Fairy Tail guilds."
Barry raises an eyebrow, "Oof… you don't for things in half measures do you?"
"Not really."
"Well… I do owe you one for being so rude yesterday." Barry looks up at a clock in the corner. "And I am currently on break."
A simple smile is all you give in response.
- - - - -
"Alright, this'll a brief rundown of guilds in Fiore, pay close attention alright?" Barry says.
"Got it!"
"First things first. There is a shi- huge load of guilds in Fiore. Ranging from merchant guilds to treasure hunter guilds to fishing guilds, if a profession exists, there's probably a guild for it. But they aren't really important right now. You mainly want to know about is the Wizard Guilds, right?"
"Uhuh," you respond.
"Right now there are a couple of frontrunners in the race for who is the most powerful wizard guild." Barry pulls out a light pen and starts drawing on the air, making the symbol of the guild as he lists them by name. "Fairy Tail, Phantom Lord, Lamia Scale, Mermaid Heel, Blue Pegasus, and Quatro Cerberus. While there are a bunch of other groups, these are the ones with the real monsters. Hel- I mean heck! People like Fairy Tail's Gildarts Clive could probably take out a small country all by themselves!"
You audibly gulp at this, but motion Barry to continue.
"But about the guilds themselves." He points to the first glowing symbol. "Fairy Tail is known for being a bunch of rowdy bast- maniacs, always shouting about how they are forever reaching for their 'fairy tail', whatever that means. They do a pretty mixed bag of quest types, though collateral damage is a norm no matter the type."
"How are they not declared a Dark Guild then? Or at least kept on a shorter lease?" you ask.
"Cause they're pretty popular for the twin reasons of civilian injuries being somehow kept to a zero and because they have a reputation for taking jobs pro bono if the reason is good enough. The people love them and their craziness, though sometimes they get do on the Magic Council's nerves."
Barry then points to the next symbol. "Phantom Lord is famous for completing their jobs with maximum efficiency, though they sometimes give off some godda- dang creepy vibes. There are some real powerhouses there. The guildmaster is said to be kind but a bit overbearing at times. Oh, and Phantom Lord butts heads with Fairy Tail often, though that has quieted down a bit recently. You following me so far?"
"Yeah, don't stop now. You're on a roll!" you say.
"Well alright then. Lamia Scale is well known for having Iron Rock Jura, one of the Ten Wizard Saints," he says, pointing to the third symbol. "A pretty mellow group, they seem to be a bit more focused on research than anything else. They are also pretty newbie friendly, having senior members help out younger ones often."
The fourth symbol is pointed to. "Mermaid Heel is a bit of an interesting one. All-female, they're notoriously close-lipped about their dealings, especially to those of the opposite sex. In fact, it's said that a man has never stepped into the deeper areas of the guild hall! All we really know is that there are some really fu- freaking strong people there, not to mention that new up and comer White Ribbon Kagura."
"Cool." is your simple response.
"Blue Pegasus is another kinda weird one," Barry says, pointing to the fifth symbol. "It has a reputation for being filled with gorgeous gals and handsome guys, though you really can't doubt their strength. They do a lot of protection and fighting quests, with research on the side. They seem to be slowing their roll a bit right now, taking the time to recruit more people instead of doing high-level quests."
The final symbol is pointed to. "And then there's Quatro Cerberus. Started by a former member of Fairy Tail, they seem to act like a weird mix between a wizard guild and a treasure hunting guild. I've heard rumors of some crazy rare magic equipment having been discovered recently, but as of right now they're just that. Rumors."
And with that Barry finishes, taking in a deep breath and slowly exhaling it. "Did you get everything?"
You think on it for a moment, before saying "Yeah, thanks a bunch!"
Barry gives you a small smile. "Anytime kid. Anytime."

Bit of a filler chapter, setting up things to come. If you don't want to take the quest, don't worry. I'll figure something else out.
Also, it's pretty much my fault that I didn't explain how creating magic is going to work. Basically, being specific in your magic creation thought process only helps. Having a clear way to proceed will lower any DCs, as well as giving a better foundation to branch off from. I put up an 'important mechanics' info post that should explain everything so far.
