Game of the Year: A Naruto Quest

It a genjutsu but Kai didn't work. It can be drugs to affect the mind. It can also be drugs and genjutsu.

Drugs to prevent chakra from working plus mess with the mind and Genjutsu to screw over the team. Without the ability to Kai, what do we do? Our senses betray us. A ninja that is trapped in a genjutsu is a soon to be dead ninja.

What do we do? We can do an Kai but it seems like it not working. Maybe hand signals incase the tokei we fighting is another genin or god forbid jounin. Remember self awareness of where we were so that what we do now doesn't screw us over.

OH and perhaps this is infact just a bushin or kurenai pretending to be tokei and we aren't in a genjutsu.

EDIT: No wait, he talk about after life BS. he an genjutsu. Hell genjutsu or whatever.

[X] Tokei has a sword, but so do you! You've killed him before; you can do it again.

We trained under gai, there is only one acceptable answer. With the raging passion of youth we Cast FIST.

[] Plan: Calm Analytics

EDIT: After considering the options, I'm changing my vote.

[X] Plan: Don't buy in, but don't be stupid
-[X] You know this is a genjutsu. You know that Kurenai is a mistress of genjutsu, so it is no surprise she'd go with this as a test. It's likely how you feel is genjutsu too. Don't let it unman you.
-[X] Try biting your tongue to break out of the genjutsu. Don't choke on the blood though.
-[X] At the same time, 'Tokei' may be Kurenai in henge and this may be more complicated than it seems. Go into an unarmed defense to ward off attacks from Tokei, but limit yourself so that you aren't attacking your teammates, while trying to find flaws in Tokei's portrayal.

-[X] You know this is a genjutsu. You know that Kurenai is a mistress of genjutsu, so it is no surprise that you can't escape it. Calm yourself, you know this is all a fake.
-[X] You are not the little boy that was helpless back then, be confident in what you accomplished, and try to endure the trauma.
-[X] The quest log only confirms that Kurenai has started to attack your group, and it tells you to survive, not fight or win. So the winning condition is to last long enough.
-[X] Try to break the genjutsu with more Chakra, but otherwise, trust in your teammates to break it for you, and don't panic.
-[X] Go into an unarmed defense only to ward off attacks from Tokei, but limit yourself so that you aren't attacking your teammates.
[X] This is still an illusion! If Chakra doesn't work, pain might do the trick! Bite your tongue hard.
[X] Tokei has a sword, but so do you! You've killed him before; you can do it again.
[X] This is still an illusion! You know it! You just need to break it! Pump even more chakra into your dispelling technique and escape it!
[X] This moment has haunted you the last seven years. Hidden from thought, its shadow clings to you. Is it any wonder how you move here, foolish as it may be? Attempt to disarm him and knock him unconscious.
[X] Sit down, Close your eyes, and relax. This is a dead man, a man you killed. Just... Wait.
[X] Try and plug your nose with what ever you have to hand, in the meanwhile defend yourself from Tokei, when you have a moment that won't risk you getting skewered by Tokei try and break the illusion again, using a combination of Chakra and pain.
[X] Duel this mad figment of the worst moment of your life. Before you were barely able to hold a sword, now you've become an Expert at Kenjutsu. Focus on making sure he can't harm you and ignore his words.
[X] Yell for the guards, play for time.
[X] Challenge your shadow to a verbal duel. Talk him down. Disarm him with words. Convince him to blame himself and seek our forgiveness. He should have protected us, he should have taught us the right way. Instead of teaching us the samurai way, right under his nose he let a ninja teach us. He should be apologizing to us, instead of trying to kill us to hide his failures.
[X] This is still an illusion! If Chakra doesn't work, pain might do the trick! Bite your lip hard.

-[X] If that doesn't work, fight to incapacitate Tokei non-lethally

Killing him isn't as good as disarming and knocking him out though.

For one, the latter takes much more skill and if we pull it off shows we've stepped beyond Tokei in skill. For two, it doesn't reinforce the trauma.

And if the test was "can you recognize an obvious genjutsu", then it would be weak enough kai would work. Since it didn't- and we should be the best in the entire class at it- we can assume that "recognizing the obvious genjutsu and doing the obvious counter" isn't the point of the test. As such, kai isn't going to work; we're stuck in it until she gets what she's looking for out of our reaction.

Which is a fair point, except we do not know if we are restrained outside the genjutsu and you voted for the kill option. This might just be a hallucination and we are swinging at air. Or we could be legitimately trying to kill our team mates. The former does not help, and yhe latter does not strike me as a good way to pass a test that has so far demanded teamwork.

By contrast, plan calm analytics lets us defend against Tokei (whoever he is in the real world, if anyone), and still try and get out of the genjutsu.

@Lalzparty , upon reading the plan again, I'd like to make a suggestion. Given that we've already tried chakra but we haven't tried pain, the other method that traditionally breaks genjutsu, would you be willing to edit the blan so we're biting our tongue very hard or stabbing ourself in the hand or something instead of pumping in more chakra?

Just bite the fucking tongue and be done with it.

Maybe a write in that combines Going on the defensive + pain?

This is a simple little test by our new sensei. There is absolutely no danger involved.

Easy options.
But no, let's make a convoluted option of hot air filled with four or five follow ups.

It's a shit plan because it tries to break the genjutsu the same way that failed three times before and is needlessly overblown.

Fair point, and I've suggested an edit already. But needlessly overblown is innacurate. It repeatedly highlights our strategy-

A: Treat this like it's a genjutsu,
B: Don't freak out, as doing that in a legitimate combat situation would be an excellent way to die, and it's fair to assume we're at least partly being tested for that,
C: Keep trying to break out of the genjutsu, which is the sensible thing to do when caught in one,
D: Fight defensively so as not to hurt anyone if we're swinging around like a lunatic outside the genjutsu.

Just biting our tongue, as you suggested, is not a bad idea but it makes no preperations for that not working. As thepsyborg pointed out, Kurenai is the genjutsu specialist in Konoha. There is a very real chance it won't work. We need to plan for that.

A test to see if we're ready for field work. It doesn't hurt to be prepared.

@Vesvius

This little part of the vote is more than enough to reassure ourselves. Daisuke has high enough stats in wits, intelligence and willpower.
Certainly, but highlighting it again and making it a central part of our vote certainly can't hurt.

We're on the hard/insane difficulty, after all. Being thorough is a good habit to get into.

I'm thinking talk no jutsu to take over, or break the illusion. It'd work, yeah? Make amens with our shadow, with our past.
I mean, the perception and diplomacy recommended skills for the quest inspired me.

Talking inside your own mind, in an illusion, could it be called meditation?

[X] Plan: Calm Analytics

Covers most of my thoughts, even if I think the plan itself is a bit long. Ves approved though so full speed ahead.

So, this is almost certainly a genjutsu, but we need to remember that this isn't just a genjutsu. That satchel is probably stopping us from releasing this with a mere Kai.

How do we respond to a clear case of false reality that we can't break? Not by swinging our weapons around like a maniac. It would be best if we knew a sleeping jutsu or something that we could use to pacify our opponents/teammates but for all we know we're actually unconscious here and such counters are doomed to failure anyway.

Stay calm, stay alive, wait for a chance.

Lalzparty certainly has the right idea about the situation. Presumably, if we attack and hit something solid, it's almost assuredly either our teammates or Kurenai depending on what exactly she's planning to do, and this is no Tsukiyomi or Sharingan special ability so the Genjutsu can only do so much in affecting the senses. Wasting our time trying to dispel an illusion by and Elite Jonin Genjutsu specialist, which as remarked by Vesvius as being the best of the best in all fields, and even more so in their specialty, it would be insane to think that we would be able to do so at our current level, of which I'm sure Kurenai is aware of.

This is probably testing our reactions to being in a difficult, foreign situation. I would assume most Shinobi will need to know to show caution when trapped in an unknown Genjutsu, and this is probably testing this.

Well what do you know, Mariko isn't some kind of psychopathic antichrist. Will wonders never cease?
