Game of the Year: A Naruto Quest

[X] Ino does not look happy. She needs you now. Go find her before she gets too far away.

Guys the best we can do right now is to roll with the punches and try to make it work. Remember guys positive social interactions and life and death situations can change relationships.

Given that we had a sword that we wanted to use, and Gai as a sensei Kenjutsu and Taijutsu boosts are not in any way outside of norm for Daisuke. Dumping Jonin level Genjutsu making it our best skill by far is a major re-imagining of the character.

In any case...fuck this team, lets stick around the academy for the year, and we can tell them that given that the psychotic bitch attacked us in class and had to be stopped mid-jutsu by Iruka after failing to follow orders and attempting to sabotage us on a major project that we flat out cannot trust her with our safety. We can work with people we don't like but trusting someone after they have actively worked against us for seven years and attacked us, that's fucking idiotic levels of naivete.

[X] You may not like one of them, but you have a team now. You should make the best of it. Go find Kiba and Mariko, and have lunch.

Good to see that Insane/Hard mode finally start to kick in! :V

Barring Mariko I actually rather like this team make-up though I'm wondering what Kurenai/Iruka is going for in regards to the squad make-up. Maybe some kind of tracking/infiltration team instead of tracking/capture?

Lets look at the voting choices right now:

[] There must be some mistake. Go talk to Iruka-sensei now, and try and change his mind! He's always listened to you in the past before. This time will be no different.

Ah, the good old whiny, brat option. Obviously if we complain loudly enough, or annoyingly enough, Iruka will change his decision. Surely Iruka will understand that because we don't like one another we can't be on a team with Mariko. Because no ninja has ever had to work with someone they don't like. I wonder what he will say?

Iruka gives her a level look. "Do I need to remind you who made these teams once again?"

Iruka-sensei intones. "These teams were composed by your academy teachers, ratified by the jounin instructors, and approved by Hokage-sama himself. Do you think you know better than Hokage-sama?"

[] Ino does not look happy. She needs you now. Go find her before she gets too far away.

While it is upsetting that Ino is taking this badly, going to Ino right now won't make her any happier with the decision. It has been made and is over and done with. Shika and Choji can help her with this right now.

[] You may not like one of them, but you have a team now. You should make the best of it. Go find Kiba and Mariko, and have lunch.

We signed up to be a ninja. Part of the job is doing some things they don't like. Maybe in time we can become friends with Mariko and put the past animosity behind us. But we should at least right now clear the air before Kurenai arrives and try to establish something to work from in preparation for our last test from our future teacher.

I don't expect that talking to Iruka will be productive; it's not like it isn't obvious that Mariko is a psycho, and the decision was made anyway. We don't have any information that Iruka doesn't.

I think inviting Team 11 to lunch will be similarly unproductive. in the short term; Daisuke has no chill around Mariko, as shown during the presentation, and Mariko is, again, a psycho. Kiba and Akamaru don't deserve to be in the middle of that. It might be useful to demonstrate effort, especially if Kurenai's watching, but I don't think Daisuke will keep his temper, so.

Talking with Ino might actually accomplish something. Ino and Daisuke are actually pretty good at nagging each other to do better (e.g., making the other thoroughly explain their jutsu before testing), so I can see Daisuke trying to convince Ino that her teammates aren't that bad and her making Daisuke... no, the Mariko hate is too strong.

I really, really don't like Mariko, but I'm excited to see how this goes.

Yea, people underestimate the damage Genjutsu can do. But looking at Sasuke. Well made genjutsu can and will fuck you up. The mind is more fragile than people give it credit for. And damage to the mind all the more insidious for it. Course, I'm not saying Mariko is that dangerous, but Genjutsu itself is no joke.

Will she go traitor just to fuck with us? Probably not, but working with her will probably be like pulling All the teeth.

Are you comparing the damage a genjutsu used by an academy student to Tsukuyomi? Because that's like comparing the One Thousand Years of Death to the Morning Peacock.

Honestly I would have loved if someone would have shut Iruka´s argument about the infailibility of the Hokage up with the mention of Orochimaru.

Does anyone really think that an emotional hormonal 13 year old girl will put aside her grudge and borderline hatred of a boy to work together with him? Because if the situation gets cleared up in one simple discussion that would be really pathetic. I mean I know Talk no jutsu is kind of a thing in the narutoverse but I thought the Pain and Gaara instances were both really stupid.

My tits are calm. The caps are to empthasise that mindless monkeying with Biggatons is stupid, and adapting to circumstances is basic fucking shit.

Get off your fucking horse.

I suggest you get off your high horse and stop clogging up the thread with your hatred for canon Kurenai because as mentioned several times, this not canon Kurenai!

@Vesvius

"Mariko, we need to talk." You state calmly. The girl is completely livid, having only paused in her furious pacing to lean against the wall and furiously stare you down.

"We. Have. Nothing. To. Discuss." She all but growls at you. Scratch that, she actually did growl at you. It was pretty impressive, honestly.

"Look, I think we do. Your...feelings for me haven't gone unnoticed. And being on a team together, expected to watch out for each other's lives, they have to be dealt with before one of us winds up dead."

She grumbles, but doesn't do anything to shut you down.

You sigh. "Look..."

"Why isn't it working?!" She almost screeches.

You blink. "Wait, what?"

"Everything I read!" She's tugging on her hair at this point. "And they were by Jiraya of the Sanin, so they have to work!"

Oh. Oh no.

She's almost got tears in her eyes as she looks at you. "Teenagers pick on each other! That's how they attract people! It's how it works! So when you didn't respond initially, I kept escalating, and it never worked. And now, now, I'm stuck on a team with you, someone who's rejected me at every turn!"

"Mariko, I..."

"But no, despite everything I've done, you've only got eyes for Ino. I get it. She's prettier than me, smarter than me, and the clan heir. What do I have going for me?"

"Uh..."

"No, screw it Mariko. You've waited this long, you can just woman up and do it. Daisuke, ever since we were kids and we first met, I thought you were awesome."

"Um...."

"I screwed it up at first, because I didn't know what to do! So when I got home, I got those books by Jiraya and I studied and I studied until I knew how to get you to like me back."

"Mariko, it doesn't...."

"AND IT NEVER WORKED!" Yeah. She's gone off the deep end. You take a couple of hesitant steps back in case you need to bolt.

"So tell me Dai, what would have worked?"

"Um..." ...Ok, she's not interrupting you this time. Are you actually supposed to contribute? "Well. I guess you could have, I dunno, been nice?"

She snorts. "Been nice? Been nice? What would that have done?"

"...probably helped us get along." You say with a shrug. "Ino's my best friend, and the two of you were close when you were younger. We probably would have hung out all the time."

"I'd be in her shadow though."

You take a step forwards and place a hand on her shoulder. "Nah. You're your own person. Hell, even if you're just going on the whole "She's better at me at everything!" deal, well, you're better than her at genjutsu. That much is true."

Her eyes light up a bit at that. "And...you're pretty good at Genjutsu too, Daisuke."

You nod. "Yeah. So we can...learn together and stuff. We're going to be on a team for a long time."

She smiles. "I...I'd like that."

You nod firmly, and look a bit sheepish. "And. Uh. If we're being honest..."

She looks at you, not blinking.

"I kinda, sorta, have a bit of a crush on you too."

She squeezes and hugs you. "Oh, Dai, I just knew you had feelings for me in there."

"Yeah...you were on my mind, a lot. Like you said, ever since we were kids."

"Would...would you like to hold hands?"

You ponder that for a moment before nodding. "You know what, I think I would."

….

Epilogue: She makes the final edits and smiles at her hard work. It had been a risk, waiting on the teams to be decided before she finished, but she had a wide network of contacts to make sure that every student got a copy.

The final edition of the student newspaper would be the best remembered issue to ever be produced at the academy.

No, HELL NO! :jackiechan::facepalm::mob:

Wow... you are really not good at understanding, are you?

Let me break it down for you.

Genjutsu are chakra that settles in the enemy brain.
Itachi can fucking SEE what she is doing.
He is a prodigy of genjutsu.

This is literally the WORST thing she could have done against him. Fucking YES, she should have done something else.

The Sharingan can predict your movements, if you are not really, really good at Taijutsu, there is nothing at all you can do, Uchihas are heavily trained at shurikenjutsu, it is one of their main specialities, and with the predictive abilities of the Sharingan, trying it atall would also be foolish, unless you think you can outmaster them, the Sharingan can, as you say, see Chakra, so the moment you start any gen or ninjutsu, they know, by the amount of chakra and seals you are using they likely even know what kind and level it will be before you do anything at all, and again, by the predictive abilities given by the Sharingan, unless you are really good, and have something pretty much overkilling destructive, you are screwed.

I am having no difficulty understanding your point, I just think you are blinding yourself in thinking that there was something else that she could have done that would make any difference whatsoever.

When every path leads to death, you might as well die doing your best.

Guys, if you hate the idea of teaming with Mariko that much, then just deliberately fail the Jonin test.

The test is a thing Kakashi does, but it's not necessarily a thing every jounin instructor does. Don't expect a bell test.

...who was the person who saw these three people who all equally dont mesh well and thought 'lets put them together' because we just started having a kinda positive relationship with kiba and Mariko might sabotage us on purpose

We mesh fine with Kiba, actually. He's not our bestie or anything, but we get along well enough with him and have worked with him successfully on our history project. We give him shit sometimes, but more in the way that boys tend to do with eachother in a not really hostile way. Mariko is the odd choice. I'm guessing this is a "if you're not friends, you'll at least learn to treat eachother professionally if nothing else, because this is a military and sometimes you have to work with people you don't like" kind of thing. There are better ways to teach that than putting people on the same team, though.

The main reason I'm not thrilled about Mariko is that I don't particularly find her to be an interesting character. Granted, we didn't spend a lot of time with her and what we have seen has by and large been her being hostile against us for stupid reasons, so maybe she'll grow more interesting over time, but eh... just seems like unnecessary drama, and I'm not really interested in learning more to begin with.

No, just saying that genjutsu is scary shit. I specifically said that what she would do wouldn't be like that, but genjutsu itself is scary. Just as if even more so than just getting set on fire by a fireball or having your bones broken. And that in itself is scary shit if you think about it.

Phobia's alone, almost practically entry level genjutsu stuff can fuck a person up depending on the person.

I'll be honest here and say that I am no way surprised by the team composition. We were shown to be working well with Kiba in last update with him helping us with our History project. I never expected us to be on the same team with Ino or any of our friends. Ever since we've met Mariko in story and she didn't disappear into the background, she was mentioned in a lot of the academy updates, I sort of knew it was an option that was on the table for being a team mate.

...He didn't mention the bell test though? He said "The Jounin test". As in, the individual test each Jounin can come up with to test their prospective teams.

Even if we couldn't get out of it ourself (which I have no doubts that we could), Iruka could dispel it.

Well... people had gone full ahead with Taijutsu when I put xp in Kenjutsu. It only had like 1 xp. Now it's a core skill and everyone pictures Daisuke as a sword user.

So did I hijack the character?

No I did not.

The point of Bonus Xp is those who contribute more have more influence. And Ves has already said Kurenai was going to be our sensei before Katsu put a single Xp into Genjutsu. So Katsu didn't hijack our character, he just made him better at something he was already good at.

Don't like that? Nobody is forcing you to participate in the quest.

Im amused by you cutting out the part of my post where I explicitly said I personally dont care just so you could act in a selfrighteous manner whilst also telling me to piss off. Nice one buddy.

...He didn't mention the bell test though? He said "The Jounin test". As in, the individual test each Jounin can come up with to test their prospective teams.

I know he didn't. But I'm saying that there may not be a test we can deliberately fail like that. For all we know Kurenai will just ask us to show her our current skills, so that she can make her own assessment on top of our academy profiles that she'll have inevitably read.

[X] You may not like one of them, but you have a team now. You should make the best of it. Go find Kiba and Mariko, and have lunch.

i have a feeling this will go poorly but we should at least make an attempt to socialize with our new team. shikamaru & choji can handle ino for now

Even if we couldn't get out of it ourself (which I have no doubts that we could), Iruka could dispel it.

Right, but the point is as mentioned several times, if she's so willing to attack us because we basically called her out as a disrespectful little shit when the teacher himself told the class to treat us like they would him, how can we trust that she'll not attack us in the field over something or listen to our advice/commands when the time comes?

I know he didn't. But I'm saying that there may not be a test we can deliberately fail like that. For all we know Kurenai will just ask us to show her our current skills, so that she can make her own assessment on top of our academy profiles that she'll have inevitably read.

Just making sure, because you said "Don't expect a bell test".

Ah, we do? Well then, we should still pass it. Failing it in a tantrum is stupid. If the team doesn't work out, we can make formal request to have the team composition changed.

Right, that's why I said that if we're hoping for the team to fail, we have to count on Mariko's hatred for us fucking up our chances with Kurenai because we, the ROTY, cannot be seen as holding back/deliberately failing out.
