Firebird, a Worm AU/Xover?

Hey @chibipoe I've got a badass independent Taylor in the works for a story, but no idea where I want to take it as a story.
Seeing as how you've already done Accel!Taylor and now this one which is also sorta independent. I was wondering if you could offer any input?
I've already got some material in my head. She kinda similar to Accel!Taylor in not wanting to be a hero, but Accel!Taylor was apathetic and Legion just got past that 'heroes and villains stuff' somewhere between waking up in Boletaria and killing Allant. When she returns to BB she makes quite a scene (exploding locker + fully armored demonically empowered Parahumans will do that), she gets escorted to the PRT HQ, tells the bare basics of what she's been through, and is more or less let loose after refusing Wards membership. She does get assigned mandatory therapy sessions every month (where I plan interludes in which she enlightens Yamada about the finer moments of her journey through Boletaria) after brief contact with Gallant put him under suicide watch for a week. Personality wise she's somewhere between Skitter, Accel!Taylor, and Shy Girl.
Link.

I... wow... I'm being asked to take a look at someone's stuff. chibipoe levels up!

Seriously, I'll take a look. Feel free to pm though so we don't clutter here up.

heh so I just had to check. Fun Fact Chibipoe youre word count for Acceleration on FF.net (which includes AN's btw) is 99,999. which I found amusing.

I think what Volant is trying to frame here, and this is just my own thoughts, is not if Taylor would call them, but would she need to in the first place? The entire idea in Danny's head as far as I understand it is that there would be someone there for her. Wards don't patrol alone. Or at least, not normally. They have a partner, backup if something goes hairy and immediate contact with more reinforcements if they can't run.

Which is a big thing I think people are missing.

The Wards aren't sent to handle things that they aren't expected to be capable of handling. They handle small things, while the Protectorate tackle larger stuff. Even as bad as Brockton Bay has gotten, I can never see Piggot tossing the Wards against the big names from the Gangs. Maybe the B listers or the C listers in Brockton, but never the A's.

This exactly.

Edit: so outdated, stupid slow refreshing computer.

But based on the previous chapter in the library, did that familiar blondie actually put together what is actually happening alongside with figuring out what is actually the source of the Thinker power blackout?

If Taylor does got o the Wards (or even if she does not), she might want to only show them the powers they think she has and "pull her punches" normally only up to the level that is not much of a power level difference compared to the other Wards (exceptions being "panic driven" boosts when necessary for survival) even if she does continually grow her powers in secret to the full avatar of the Phoenix Force levels). If for no other reason to keep others from deciding to eliminate or control her life more if they find out she could mind control the entire planet, devour the sun, or even wipe out the entire universe in a decent impression of a cosmic Big Bang (assuming that some of those What If comics which ended with the Phoenix Force going "LET IT ALL BURN" is valid for this story).

Sorry for replying again to this post but now that I'm not tired I reread the various posts and the above isn't quite correct. In the original story Piggot specifically asked the Wards for volunteers to face the Nine and Vista has a scar given to her by Hookwolf. I think Vista also mentions somewhere that some of the Wards patrol alone. So yes, Piggot will throw the Wards against monsters and some of the older Wards may patrol alone. Of course, whether or not this applies to Firebird is up to Chibipoe.

Did the events you are describing happen before or after Leviathan curb-stomped the Bay? Context is important.

The wards can't be forced to participate in dangerous scenarios (like Endbringers and the S9), but Piggot can (and will) request it, and they'll always agree because of social pressures. Remember right before the Behemoth fight? The Wards who were ashamed because they were teenagers with a perfectly natural aversion to dying horribly at the hands of a 45 foot tall nigh invincible hero killer?

Because the number of heroes in town were in the low teens. This also ignores the fact that Undersiders are the same age as the Wards and fought the Nine. Plus when Kid Win said no, Piggot accepted it and moved on, never putting any pressure to get him to change his answer.
Vista has a scar given to her by Hookwolf.
This is largely due to refusing to seek medical attention. She wanted to seem tough so she tried to stitch it up herself and failed.

She specifically states that Sophia is the only one who goes alone and that Sophia hates it when she has to take someone with her.

Piggot asking for volunteers against the Nine happened after Leviathan. I searched and the scar is mentioned in Sentinel 9.5 It is mentioned that she got it a year ago, so it occurred before Leviathan. No mention of whether it was orders or just bad luck but if you consider Piggot asking the Wards for volunteers to face the Nine, the Wards being sent to face bank robbers without even PRT officers to provide adult supervision, the lack of therapy before Weld pushed the issue as well as Piggot's own thoughts and feelings about parahumans I'm not inclined to see it in the best possible light.
There were older injuries too. Small scars on her hands, tiny cuts on her legs, the bump of a dime-sized keloid scar on the top of one foot. The one that caught her eye was on the right side of her chest, an inch and a half down from her collarbone. An inch wide, the scar puckered inward a bit. It had been the result of an altercation with Hookwolf as the villain escaped the scene of a grisly attack on a grocer, a year ago. A blade on the villain's arm had punctured her armor as he'd knocked her aside. She'd felt the pain of her skin being penetrated and she'd kept quiet about it out of a desperate need to shake the label of being the team baby. She didn't want to be seen as the one always in need of help and protection. It would have been embarrassing to ask for medical attention, only for it to be a scratch.

It had only been later that she'd seen how serious it was, how much it had been bleeding into the fabric of her costume, underneath her breastplate. She'd stitched it up herself, here, in the showers. She'd done as best as she was able, worked with a kind of grim determination. Not the most competent job, in the end.

Notice that it was after Hookwolf fled the scene of a crime, which implies that it was just happenstance she was nearby. Also notice that she could have gotten medical attention but refused.

No duh, the heroes exist to fight supervillains. If they were just going to send troopers in why even bother with superheroes? Add to that the troopers would at best cause issues for the Wards by getting in the way.

This conversation is drifting a bit. I first replied to a post that stated that the Wards aren't sent against things they would be unable to handle. I provided examples of the Wards being asked to volunteer to face the Nine and of Vista having faced Hookwolf. While I can certainly accept that there are times when everybody who's both willing and useful will have to face the monsters of their world (the Endbringers and maybe the Nine) the point I was making is that Wards are sent against things they can't handle, both A listers (Hookwolf) and S listers (the Nine).

This is largely due to refusing to seek medical attention. She wanted to seem tough so she tried to stitch it up herself and failed.

Drifting a bit. My point was that she faced Hookwolf. Not that she has a scar.

She specifically states that Sophia is the only one who goes alone and that Sophia hates it when she has to take someone with her.

I looked up what I recalled and I was wrong. In Interlude 18 Vista states that she'll only be able to go on solo patrols once she's 14. She doesn't state whether she wants to do so.

"When I go on patrol, I can't go alone, not until I'm fourteen. So I spend the most time with everyone. I hear what they say, and we talk about everything."

the point I was making is that Wards are sent against things they can't handle, both A listers (Hookwolf) and S listers (the Nine).
But there is a real difference between being sent against and running into. If Hookwolf is posing a real threat to an unarmed civilian, which he was, it's likely the Wards would step in, but not pursue if he ran off. From the way the event was described it seemed like Vista and whoever she was with ran into Hookwolf menacing a person, and somehow drove him off, and while retreating he ran into her. That's very different than Vista being ordered to help take down Hookwolf during a drug bust.

Notice that it was after Hookwolf fled the scene of a crime, which implies that it was just happenstance she was nearby. Also notice that she could have gotten medical attention but refused.

What is more likely?
1) Vista stumbling in front of Hookwolf purely by chance?
2) The Wards being sent to delay Hookwolf until people capable of capturing him can arrive?
3) The Wards being sent to capture Hookwolf?

Please note that she uses the word "altercation" and the phrase "grisly attack". This seems to imply that Vista and companions (which would most likely be the Wards) were sent after Hookwolf due to his attack on the grocer.

No duh, the heroes exist to fight supervillains. If they were just going to send troopers in why even bother with superheroes? Add to that the troopers would at best cause issues for the Wards by getting in the way.

Not sending troops. Sending a supervisor who can remind the teenagers about things they've forgotten, provide an experienced sounding board to bounce ideas off and flat out tell them when they're doing something stupid.

He was clearly escaping the scene of the crime, and ran past her.

That's Aegis's job. As the team's leader. He is supposed to come up with plans, and remind the others of things. That's his job.

Why don't we just stop this debate, as it seems to have lost its relevance to the thread.

Any thoughts on Firebird?

I read that as Hookwolf escaping the Wards. After all, what is likelier, them just stumbling into him or them being sent to engage him after the PRT receives a call that Hookwolf is busy murdering somebody at such and such an address.

He's a teenager. And, if memory serves he didn't get the job because he was the best choice or most experienced. He got the job because he was the oldest. So somebody to remind him about things he's forgotten, tell him when he's being stupid or just suggest some alternatives would actually make sense.
