Deep Red (Avatar: The Last Airbender)

The problem with the whole "conquering" route is that it's doomed to failure.

In fact, due to the way it's doomed actually succeeding more then in canon could actually make things worse for the Fire Nation in the long term. Because the worse things are for the other nations the greater the war reparations demanded will be once the Avatar returns and put's an end to the Fire Nation's ambitions.
Yeah. We're not paying them shit no matter how the war results.

Edit: they can demand reparations if they want another war in the future.

You are assuming the Avatar will be in a position to make such demands.

Sooo, did anyone suggest to go full Great Britain on Earth Kingdom? i mean just
  • steal everything not nailed down,
  • uplift only your colonies,
  • from time to time start proxy wars through your colonies,
  • act like peacekeeper.
After several decades they will hate each other more then Fire nation. And iirc Earth kingdom already was a powder keg of fighting fiefdoms. Shouldnt be that hard to get them going again.

Or just do what Zuko and Aang did in canon. FN will end up in that position anyway. (this is the point where someone complains about railroading)

Kuvira was actually cool until she went off the deep end.

Where do you think that point would be?
Just when she refused to give the crown back to the Earth Monarchy and declared the Earth Kingdom an Empire and herself an empress?
Or when she attacked the Bei Fong's autonomous polity?
Or when she attacked the Republic City?

I need a cutaway point where her actions became unacceptable in Season 4 for you, please.

Here to deliver chief .

Why do you keep resorting to the same argument that ends up with "might as well let canon run its course since there is absolutely nothing we can possibly do to change things or have any positive impact at all ." ?

you have to at least understand how unpalatable that can be at the very least?

she did 3 things i found unacceptable. When she had highwaymen steal supplies from towns to then sell them back to them. when she enslaved her own people into camps, and when she fired the cannon at her fiance. I never found the empire building aspects to be unacceptable.

That was actually discussed in chat today coincidentally, almost in those exact words. Play them against eachother after we've removed the central authority in Ba Sin Sei and take advantage of the resulting power vacuum. Especially with how the EK is composed of practically independent city states the resulting opportunism from the local rulers should help greatly.

They sound like a bunch of fine folks. Look, they even have our sister with them! Let's join their club.
Hey, canon Azula is still alive and stronger. Sure she lost her throne and for a time her sanity, but you will need much more than that to keep her down. Plus being free from Ozai and not trying to kill Zuko is like the most sane environment she has ever been. (sad thing that being a literal terrorist is more healthy than being part of the FN Royal family)

Thx, saved me 20 minutes long slog through salt mines.

The British Empire route could have worked... If the Fire Nation hadn't wasted the last century being the world's enemy. Hard to divide and manipulate when everyone hates you.

Dude. 100-year war. All the dead people and loss of infrastructure. Like, paying reasonable reparations should not be an issue.

Kosm actually said we could get strong enough to beat him.
Please tell me we aren't planning on killing the last airbender.

Some Questers are unironically planning to kill/subvert the Avatar
Yeah
That's... Yea...

Subverting him is quite literally impossible due to Sozen wiping out the Air Nomads. And killing him, well, the world is quite literally working to make sure he succeeds. Even assuming Akane somehow succeeded in killing the Avatar however, Sozin got his entire line cursed with insanity doing it the first time. So I shudder to think what would happen to Akane if she actually repeated Sozin's mistake. (Best case would probably be getting tossed into the Fog of Lost souls...)

Totally.
There were people who beat the Avatar one way or another
Like Sozen
Or Azula
Or Amon
Or Kuvira

They sound like a bunch of fine folks. Look, they even have our sister with them! Let's join their club.
Most of those are conditional though? Sozen didn't beat Roku, he left him to die when they were saving a local village from a volcano eruption and Roku was old.

Kuvira beat Korra sometime after she had recovered from the metal poison. Then Korra went into the Avatar state and beat her handily.

Azula's was a sneak attack and Amon would have lost handily to Aang if we're being honest here.

Did you forget Buumi?
Buumi beat Aang while he was still learning Waterbending.

yeah. I don't want to fight him if we don't have to. but i don't think he's going to just stand aside as we conquer the world.
Bro I don't think you understand what self-defense means. Imperialistic conquering is not and will never be a neutral action. The Avatar attacking us would be self-defense. We don't have the moral or ethical high ground here, you have to realize that.

The avatar doesn't have a stake in this. if he attacks us it's an offensive action. I would allow him to live his life however he likes as long as he doesn't get involved in the war.
