Deep Red (Avatar: The Last Airbender)

Sure, but you excuse those of us who didn't actually want that path for being bitter about it. Oh well, it is what it is. No point getting too heated about it.

it's not like that at all. I fully respect your guys point of view, I was just explaining why a lot of people probably jumped on it immediately. We will make sure Ozai suffers for this.

What do you think will happen if Akane kills Zuko? Scaring Zuko is going to permanently make us enemies with him and Uncle. Killing him will remove that threat, provided that Uncle does not kill us in retaliation.

I think this is one of the most amusing ways to get back with Ozai. That dick sees himself with Zuko. I think he wants Zuko to be in the throne, that is why he is trying to isolate and weaken us.

Anyways I'm not sure this really gets us to that point anyway. It's a total breakdown of Akane's will and utter subservience to her father. Basically Azula with a lot more trauma. I think the decision to go to Iroh last time was a misstep, but this has also broken a lot of her actual character. Whatever's left is going to be an abused husk. Not much of a warlord.

I guess we'll have to see then.

Anyways, the situation on fiction.live is pretty thermonuclear right now. I'm going to see at least this live straight to the bottom and then probably drop out because I just don't see how this will go in a way that I could read and it's way too superheated anyway. Fiction.live's super-fast votes make for a really intense voting experience which can be unpleasant when the stakes are so high.

Is it just me, or is fiction.live not working right now? I can't get my browser to load to refresh or load the site

I think fiction.live just crashed. If I have to, I'll just post the chapter here including the ending that I don't get to there.

Anyway, I'm confident this'll work out. This whole scenario has felt vaguely reminiscent to what ended up killing Sidereal Quest, but you've been magnificently handling things better than that was then, @kosm. So I feel like this'll end up making the story greater for the turmoil it'll cause.

well, i gotta crash, have a good night people. Good playing with you. Hell, you think this is bad. Over on Railguns and Pulse Rifles there were some players that outright betrayed other players on the quest. it was like 100 pages of salt.

Hey @kosm, let me just say that no matter what, you've got my vote xD. You're a great writer and I absolutely cannot wait to see what happens next. Don't let the salt and BS discourage you.

I can see why you'd feel that way, but I think it's pretty justifiable and in-character.

Frankly, when Akane talks about family what she REALLY means is Azula. She hates her mother and is a friendly acquaintance of her uncle at best. She has shown a token willingness to reach out to Zuko... but has never defied her father for it. In fact, she's bent to his will anytime it's been about Zuko.

Her attitude towards him can be summed up as "I'll be affectionate and caring... as long as it's not a serious inconvenience to me."

She also has MAJOR jealousy issues regarding him. Ultimately I would agree with you that it destroyed her character if she agreed to scar Azula. But Zuko?

This is also not a choice she makes with a clear head, and as the other option seems to be death or rebellion (which leads to death at this stage), it's clearly something she's doing but is greatly conflicted about. She's not obeying her father because she believes in what he says - she's doing it because she does not have the power to refuse at this point and win. If anything, I think it deepens her sense of purpose and rebellion against her father.

Actually, thinking about it, hey @kosm. Have you read Sidereal Quest? Because there've been one or two parallels I've noticed that have been nostalgically pleasant.

I agree, this reaffirms my belief that Ozai needs to be crispy when it's possible.

I can see it, but the really rapid nature of fiction.live votes makes it all feel less measured. It's just really the kneejerk reaction of everyone involved, so it just gets reduced to white knights versus edgelords, y'know? Situations like going to Iroh for bending training really could have used someone reminding people of Ozai's clear instructions to avoid Iroh, but what people saw was an opportunity to expand our bending horizons, and that became the dominant narrative.

A side-scrolling chat also leads to gigantic hostility. It's like Twitch Plays Quests over there. On the other hand, it does create really, really intense votes, and captures that kind of classic quest panic experience, but that has a lot of drawbacks and I think they're coming to the fore right now.

I don't know if I mind the destination to this point, I just feel like the journey was a mess, and I'm not really sure where things can go from here. I don't think voters will interpret it the way you suggest; I think they'll just jump head-long into being assholes.

Yeah, I don't know when we're going to finally kill Ozai for what he's done, but when we do it there won't be anything left. We'll wipe him from history, purge his name from the records, and make sure that decades from now, no one will even remember him. He will have no legacy by the time we're done. Of this, I am certain.

Not yet anyway...
:V
Honestly tho given the rules here on sv the salt will be less "REeeeeE, u suk" and more "This was a major disappointment/poor plotting/etc"
You'd be surprised how vicious people can be while still skirting within the boundaries of the rules. I know I've been, once or twice.

I don't think it'll happen here though. This was contentious, but ultimately either way the chips fell were valid interpretations for Akane to go down.

Edit: Getting a 522 Error for fiction.live, it'll probably be down for awhile yet
