-random head tangent-

Armsmaster: Well done out there, Chessman. We couldn't have done this without your plan and powers to back it up to perfection.
Chessman: It's no problem, sir...
Piggot: Don't sell yourself short. You're one of the most level-headed capes I've worked with. Keep up the good work.
Chessman: O-Of course, ma'am!
-LATER-
QA: Yaaay~! Danny, I'm so happy everyone likes the toys I gave you! :lol
Danny: Th-they're not toys, they're fully customizable assault miniatures!
QA: Awww, don't be like that! It's okay to play with toys even if you aren't a kid! I won't tell anyone! ;)
Danny: Err, thanks QA-chan. You're a real friend.
QA: ...especially not that scary dog...
Danny: What was that?
QA: Uh, nothing! HALPING! :D
-ELSEWHERE-
Sunny: -perks up-
Taylor: What is it, girl? Someone talkin' aboutcha?
Sunny: Woof!
Taylor: You mean they talk about you a lot but you can't figure out who it is?
Sunny: Woof.
Taylor: That must be frustrating. Let's get ice cream?
Sunny: Wuff! :p

I wonder though. How would the Triumvirate,Cauldron,or anyone outside looking in would react to BB improving at such an exponential pace? ABB actually being helpful, E88 dying out, Merchants being dead offscreen. I mean, the once worst city in U.S is now one of the most safest places. How would people react?

"Huh, Parahuman Feudalism is working out better than projected. Strange that the rising hegemon of Brockton Bay is turning out to be a dog, rather than Coil like we were expecting, though."

Which is all well and good, right up until you remember Coil's power is all simulations an the timeline he "chose" is actually the one his power predicted he would be using in the first place and the simulated one is the one it knew would be dropped from the start.

Kind of borks it when it has something it can't simulate. Like Exaltations or Gods sdoG and celestial brush techs.
... suddenly I've got the worrying suspicion that the Entities have tangled with Gods before, and things wouldn't be going nearly as well for Ammy if both of them were still alive.

I'd honestly like it if Kenta was the first person to see Ammy in "Human" form.

It would just about kill him to know he owes his life, prosperity and organisation to the mercy of Amaterasu-omikami, and that he can never revert to what he used to be.

To do so would be a grave insult.

on the chapter reaction....

"Well, shit." that's right Kenta, Time to find that waterfall to swim up.

Tangled with gods in the past they may have, but if the Entities have ever dealt with one with Ammy's dogged determination and sheer stubbornness and came out unscathed, then I'll buy a hat and eat it.

Ammy faced down the literal embodiment of Evil, without any power or weapons whatsoever and still kept on fighting. In the literal Darkest Hour, she bared her fangs and kept on hitting the Incarnation of Evil without giving up.

Both entities at once would make things harder. Much, much harder. But Ammy wouldn't give up and she'd fight back no matter the odds, because that's just the kind of person she is.

Because no matter what, the Night ends and The Sun Rises, dammit.

Ammy also gets power boosts from faith/belief/worship, so in a Gold Morning type scenario if she starts off holding her own she'll just keep getting stronger as more and more people see her fighting an evil god-like being on even-ish terms.

"...the Protectorate is calling it the greatest victory in recent memory, with the capture of a total of seven villains aligned with the Empire Eighty-Eight. Armsmaster was present today to answer a few questions on the villains' capture, as well as speculation on what this will mean for the city and the local gang activity…"

Ashes pittered down from the end of Lung's cigarette, having burned itself out as the man stared at the television in his living room with dawning horror. Oni Lee, standing behind the couch and watching as well, said nothing. Lung's hand twitched, then pawed for the remote, and he cut off the newscaster before she could spell his fate any further.

"Well, shit."
Why are the quiet understated reactions the best ones? This entire chapter was just hilariously awesome!

I don't know what Lung is worried about. He already took on the whole Brockton Protectorate before, no?
So they ain't gonna be able to do anything.

Because, as near as I can determine from canon, their prisoner holding facility might as well just be equipped with a revolving door.

"Armsmaster. Explain."

"This new entryway for the detention block is much more efficient - there's no need to open and then close it, and personnel can enter and leave at the same time in a steady flow without needing to take turns passing through the doorway."

"You put a literal revolving door on our parahuman prison, because it's more efficient that way. I just... just... Just go. Get out of my sight."

Because he knows that if he doesn't start treating the Miko with respect he'll be dealing with a vengeful god that he's pissed off personally and reniged a deal with. Bit worse than the Protectorate.

It isn't the Protectorate he's worried about. To quote a previous post I made about this situation:
You know what the best part of Ammy's current rampage is? Kenta's reaction to all of this is going to be fucking delicious.

Let me try to show you what I mean here from Kenta's POV:
- Kenta goes back to the Shrine to speak with the Miko and is asked about his way of doing business as the Head of a Criminal Organisation.
- His spiel about why he cannot be a better quality of criminal is rejected, by the Miko and, by extension, her Goddess, and is then asked to re-examine his situation, while giving him a brief over-view as why the Miko believes he is going about this all wrong.
- As he mentions that the ABB are at war with E88 and therefore cannot afford to try to change his way of doing business, the Miko asks a very pointed question about their rivals, about removing them from the equation.
- Tired of the silly conversation, he grunts that it would be easier without them.
- The meeting's over and the Miko demands two sidewalks for his disrespect, with a hint ozone in the air.
- Sunday evening, there's news of Hookwolf being apprehended by PRT.
- Tuesday morning, there's word that Rune was caught.
- Tuesday evening, Victor*.
- Thursday morning, Alabaster.
- All this done with only some accounts of a white dog being involved somehow while the Miko was somewhere else completely or even apparently unaware of anything happening.

So, with that in mind, when the so-called dragon of Brockton Bay goes back to the Shrine, I wonder what his general attitude will be.

Also, another hilarious point, Kenta basically made a wish to the Kami of the Shrine (inadvertently, granted) and offered something (coerced into doing it, but an offering nonetheless), and now it's getting sorted out.

Or...here's another way of looking at it, Kenta's told by the representative of a Kami that he's not doing good business, in fact, at the rate the ABB is going, they would lose out eventually, and that he'll be given an opportunity to sort it out. In other words? Kenta went to a Shrine and got his business' fortune told.
Basically, he's realized that his bluff just got called. In the most direct (and honestly rude) way possible.

Now he HAS to make an effort of becoming a more urbane criminal/businessman.

Edit:
ZOMG, someone on SB recommended listening to Greensleeves when reading from the part where Purity recognizes Taylor and Sunny. It works. It works so flippin' well. Not just with Taylor's innocence and ignorance at how close she was to dying, but also with Purity's thoughts of what could have been.

This is crazy.

Taylor wasn't remotely close to dying. Using a Solarbeam on Ammy's priestess while she's right there? That's not going to work. Ammy's the goddess of the sun, after all, making a solar-powered attack on her priestess fail or backfire is a thing she can do.

Fair enough.

The fact that the Protectorate cape mooned them the entire time he was driving away was just insult to injury, really.
Hey Datcord, you do realize this means he pulled a Roadrunner right? 'Cause I mean, menacing vehicles that turn out to be toys painted to look like said menacing vehicles, then a "VROOM! VROOM!" ("Meep! Meep!") and there goes Chessman. Leaving behind a humiliated Kaiser.

Kenta must abandon the Bōsōzoku he has survived as and become the Kumicho of Brockton Bay with more than a slice of the romanticized ideal they strive for...a Daimyo of a Ninkyo-Dantai

Beholden in Vassalage to Amaterasu-Omikami herself.

( :p )

Ammy doesn't do that kind of Conceptual Bullshit, at least not in-game. She could probably intercept Purity's attack by using Veil of Mist to slow down time, followed by Galestorm or somethig equally disorienting to give herself enough time to either take down Purity or save Taylor from the Blast radius.

Fun fact, Amaterasu isn't exactly a Sun Goddess as much as she is a Goddess of the Sun, the Universe and the Natural Cycle. The Sun Rising, then Setting, only to Rise Again, with all that happens regularly in between also being part of Her domain.

So yes, pissing off Amaterasu means pissing off the Universe itself.

One of her Diving Treasures is a mirror.
A mirror with which she smites* evil, but a mirror nonetheless.
Combined with the fact Ammy has only a vague disdain for the laws of physics as they apply to her...
Well.
I'm sure you can connect the dots.

*I mean this in the classical sense. As in she smacks them around with it using magic diety bullshit, in the game.

Well, the Reflectors can most certainly block attacks and counter them, if you time them right (which Ammy most certainly can,) but there are still some attacks which are unblockable.

And anyhow, Purity as an opponent is clearly a puzzle boss. If she manages to shoot the Big Beam of Destruction, you lose, but you can interrupt her and leave her vulnerable with the right techniques.

And all that aside, evwryone knows the Glaives are the weapons of the true Pros of Okami.
*unintelligible mumbling about scrubs abusing Beads for easy combos and Godhood, and scrubs sticking with the Reflectors the whole game*

"You put a literal revolving door on our parahuman prison, because it's more efficient that way. I just... just... Just go. Get out of my sight."
Revolving doors actually make for excellent security, they make enforcing entry only and exit only routes very easy make it very difficult for a large group to rush through while still allowing for a possibility of a large entryway if you fold the door aside, etc...

What's that flying in the sky up there? four letters starts with a J...I wonder what it could be :)

Not just with Taylor's innocence and ignorance at how close she was to dying, but also with Purity's thoughts of what could have been.
Purity was planning a DISTRACTION not a murder. Taylor was not going to be killed, although if Kaiser's plan had worked the shrine would probably have been destroyed and Taylor might have been injured.
