A little short, but this chapter sets up a few things, and I wanted to get something accomplished before Pokemon swallows my soul at midnight.
I feel your pain. I may end up waiting until Tuesday or Wednesday to get them, but I am getting both and want to finish off the main story in both to get access to the QR Reader function for the legendary being released early in December. So, massive solo party for the next week or two for me.

Also, I naturally want more of this fic; after all, if if didn't, I wouldn't be following it!

your sister needs hugs stat for making this :D

I buy the food she eats and provide the roof she lives under (our mother moved out to live with her boyfriend, dropping a pair of teenagers in my lap to take care of. I was not amused.). This is her rent payment, though I'll be getting her ice cream later when I pick our other sister up from her new job (she started today, I'm so proud. Also a nervous wreck, but very proud) .

After she'd gotten her thoughts down on paper, Taylor had needed to stop for a while and just process things. She was, after all, intending to use the honor system in Brockton Bay of all places… and she was actually feeling assured that it would be fine. She had to hug Sunny for a while, just to feel grounded.

Hey! The cape community of Brockton Bay is offended by your implications!

... I mean, this includes Coil and he's just delusional about the value of his own word, but I stand by this anyway!

"I was kind of thinking… maybe I could have a half-size third pool, as well. For capes."

This is silly. You are silly.

You need a fourth one, so you can divide the capes by gender.

Duh.

"She intends a second Lord's Market." Lung said, still following the threads of thought and consequence.

Yes. Intends. Deliberate. Planned.

Lung, you're talking about a teenage girl here. You remember what you were like as a teen? Yeah, that's right, you were a two-bit thug working with other two-bit thugs with no larger goal than being scary and stealing shit for giggles.

I shouldn't throw rocks, really, I'm so much worse, but it's funny to facepalm at Lung attributing maximum keikaku to Taylor regardless.

I enjoyed this chapter immensely.

Omake: An Interview
Lung: Cape Villian and Businessman
A Retrospective

Interview Excerpts

"Lung, your rise to respectability and capable community leader from villain over the past five years had been an inspiring example of redemption. Both of your redemption and the revitalization of the Asian community of Brockton Bay.

As a last question, would there be any regrets that you would care to share, to help our audience understand your story better?"

"My single greatest regret is a moment of anger that led me to strike The Miko."

"That's a surprising response, would you care to elaborate?"

"No."

"Well, that's all the time we have. Thank you again Lung, and thank you for bringing the acclaimed Good Dog of Brockton Bay with you as well. We here at CNN are grateful for the change to interview these two central characters of Brockton Bay."

========

"Sunny, why are you on TV with Lung?"

*Bark!*

"No, I don't think Lung thought you surprising him on live television was 'just a prank.' Why were you even in New York?"

To be fair, relying on the Honor system when dealing with anyone from worm is a level of foolishness passed only by expectation of a random wormverse human to be a good person, or a rock to transform into a purple, intangible goldfish and start flying around granting infinite, unlimited wishes.

What Taylor could do is provide the plain Ema on an honor system and actually sell ones she's put a bit of effort into, be it writing a character on the back (Luck, Wealth, Health, etc), to doing a small painting

Over on SB, ThoughtMaster pointed out that if you were to divide the hot spring in three, then divide the cape one in two again for separation, from above the new onsen would look an awful lot like this:

PEACE THROUGH POWER!

See, see Taylor? I told you so.

All the more reason to do it the correct way!

Hell, the flying capes will probably notice it on the way in.

... Taylor needs to make sure there's some kind of roof-thingie so fliers aren't peepers.

Fliers?

She has to worry about Armsmaster's surveillance cameras!

Miss Militia: Colin, where were these picture's taken? :o
Armsmaster: The hot spring. The ABB may be using it as a front.
Miss Militia: Oh, god. . .
Chessman/Piggot: ARMSMASTER!!!
Armsmaster: What? o_O

Piggot: *checking report* "So, a gang is using it's resources to make a market and run it legally. This is not a problem. Let it be."
Conflict-driven parahuman: "But but but..!"
Piggot: "I said: Let it Be. Or Else." *glares at the vermin*
Vermin: "...eep. Okay!"
I honestly took it that she glared at a random rat that went into her office - and scared it into submission.

I keep seeing the PRT going 'there has to be something illegal going on here', but... a Cape that for all purposes first hammered down the E88, then turned the ABB halfway legit and productive?
*fridge logic moment*

What is her ratings again? Shaker/Master?

The people responsible for the Canary (kangaroo) trial are going to find themselves under a very high-powered microscope real soon, aren't they?

Armsy as unintentional Jiraiya, gets chased around the city by a bunch of angry female capes that find his surveillance equipment.

Whys that? The situations are different.

Presumably because the Canary trial was deliberately set up as a way to make an example of human-affecting Master capes, and here comes Brushstroke and Good Dog as a counter-argument to the idea that Master capes are inherently evil and dangerous.

This.
Some in the fanon has even speculated that this is a "join my side, or DIE BIRDCAGE" move/play by the PRT...

(note: not my opinion. I'm more towards a "random political [expletive] with vast state power" interpretation wrt the Canary trial)

Fair enough, I guess it makes sense. Unless you're paranoid and assume that Good Dog and Brushstroke are just insidiously good at doing what they are doing.

The PRT are not that stupid; remember, the government(not the PRT, just the government) have already tried this once in-universe with NEPEA-5.
The result was the transformation of the rogue business corporation Uppermost into the the parahuman crime syndicate The Elite, supposedly the second-largest parahuman organization in the US after the Protectorate.

"A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky animals" - MiB, paraphrased.

Also...
...
...
That reminded me...
Armsmaster 'hmmed' to himself, holding his teacup with one hand and rubbing Sunny's ears with the other. "I don't know offhand what the intersection between Rogue capes and nonprofit organizations is, but ever since the Fallen got started I'm sure there have been lawsuits. There are some pretty stringent limitations on Rogues and capes in general, most of them relating to Thinkers or Tinkers, or the stock market. If you decide to develop any of those properties as a place of business, there will likely be a requirement for a certain percentage of your profits to be funneled into a charitable organization-- there's been some pushback against that but I know Parian ran into a year or so ago, and I haven't kept up on any changes since then."
I KNEW there was something wrong with that paragraph.

Elite (criminal megacorp) fits a lot better than Fallen (Endbringer cultists)

Given he's talking about nonprofits, the Fallen sort of fit- Religious institutions get nonprofit status, after all, and if the crazy endbringer cultists were to file the appropriate paperwork, I think they would probably technically be able to be granted status as a religious organization?

IDK I'm no lawbot but that's how I parsed it.

Parahumans can't feed the poor without 2,982 different kinds of paperwork and revealing their identity; I have a feeling that there isn't enough digital memory on earth bet to hold the plain-text version of the forms they would need to fill out to get a parahuman-led literal apocalypse cult that status.
