I get this feeling that becoming a witch would be way more violent than that, but I have no real way of knowing. Does the corruption in the air actively corrupt soul gems or just make them more susceptible to corruption?

I don't see why that would be a thing, though I may have missed what implies it through my cursory searchings I just did.
 
I've always been under the impression that the reason Homura could do that was because of her wish. She wished to be the one to protect Madoka and that empowered her to steal her power at the end of Rebellion.
 
She'd need the necessary karmic power to do so, and a witch form taps into acclimated karma through maguca life.

Given these 2 factoids, my interpretation is that every timeline jump also added karma to Homura, and when she witched out, she had = karma to Madoka to tap into. Meaning she could pull some law of cycles tier BS, and did so by yoinking Madoka.

(If wishes could do whatever regardless of karmic power, I think coobs would have solved entropy a lot sooner, and then dropped a asteroid on us cuz "threat")

True, Homura has remarkable force of will and can restrain herself to nut cracker. For how long is unknown, hence why am hoping she doesn't up and nom the planet.

Rule breaker (assuming medea) would prolly turn them back to normal humans with more standard karma values too. So the counter force won't be nipping at their heels 24/7.

Id like to point out Medea didn't do the one thing that would have been worst case scenario, more so then probably rule breaker. She could have summoned an actual dragon which is I THINK a Beast and that would have fucked us hard.

You mean Argon Coin? Not the strongest dragon in the world. Also no, Archer doesn't have protections against being blackened. Gil does, though. Somehow.
