Hmm. Kind of curious why Rin wants to see the girls one-on-one in a certain order.
Didn't Bazett think the Mitakihara Puella Magi were a cult of some kind, initially, or that the rings that are their disguised Soul Gems were mind controlling/affecting them? It was never truly cleared up in the end, and though Rin trusts Archer, from what she probably gathered from Archer's retelling of things Homura and many of the Puella Magi were already Puella Magi when he was summoned, so I can see why Rin would want to investigate things from her own perspective a bit to make sure nothing nefarious is afoot.

Either that or professional curiosity about Puella Magi/Homura and co.

In addition to what Enetious said, it's not so much that Rin wants to see them in a specific order; she just picked at random and said "Okay, this is the order you're going in" under the assumption that they'd, you know, just do what she said on account of her being Tohsaka Rin.

Completely unrelated to the task at hand, but still imminently related to the larger goings-on of the quest,

Edit: Nevermind, the fucking government blocked the site. Seen normally using VPN
Welp, I'm being 404ed when I try to manually load the link in new tab, whatever it is is blocked in the U.S. at least. The main Gelbooru site isn't blocked for me though, so that's pretty weird. Are there any alternative links either of you could post, or screenshot it? Don't have access to a VPN. :/

Day 34 Chapter 11
[X] Plan Oh Boy Here We Go Again

"A'ight, come on Blueberry, let's get going." Kyouko's first words upon exiting her one-on-one conversation with Tohsaka Rin are, to the surprise of no one, directed to her date. "I'm interested ta see where yer planning on taking me."

Sayaka opens her mouth to speak; doubtless Kyouko's demanding attitude is grating her nerves, but Kure Kirika just gives her a look, saying without saying "Just remember what I told you." Sighing, Sayaka takes her advice to heart, saying "Well, I guess we'll see you all later," as she stands up, taking Kyouko's hand into her own. You give her a thumbs up and a silent "Good luck" as she and Kyouko walk out into the great unknown of their first date.

"Alright Kure!" Tohsaka Rin calls out. "You're up next!" One by one, Tohsaka Rin calls each of your allies into the kitchen to speak with them alone; until at last, she's finished interviewing your allies and frinds, and she makes one final call; "Akemi, I want to speak with you again."

You and Mikuni Oriko pass each other, you leaving as she returns, and you take your seat at the table as you enter the kitchen, Tohsaka Rin seated on the opposite side. "Was there a reason for speaking to my allies in the order that you did?"

"Not really; I just wanted to hear what each of them had so say about things, and I picked the order at random." You nod, and she continues. "You sound upset; is there a reason you didn't want me talking to them by themselves?"

"None what so ever. But I think I have the right to be curious and cautious, especially of someone I've never met before. I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt because Archer trusts you, but that doesn't mean I won't let my guard down completely."

"Well, just in case you're wondering, your teammates basically just said the same thing that you did- Witch was big, strong, took a lot of hits, probably would have wiped out the city if you hadn't stopped it." Well of course they'd all say the same as you had; they were there. "I was thinking I might be able to catch them up if I spoke with them by themselves, but everything checks out; I see no reason to doubt your story. However, I do have one last question for you before I let you go- Are you absolutely sure you have things under control here? I'm not going to go back to London, tell them they don't need to get involved, and then find out in a week or two that something like this has happened again, am I?"

Tohsaka Rin gives you a look, staring into your soul as if she already knows the answer that awaits her. What should you tell her? Do you lie and tell her that everything in Mitakihara is peachy-keen, knowing that, when Walpurgisnacht hits, whatever is left of the city might be put at risk because your lie blindsided the Association and has them spooked worse than before? Or ot you tell Tohsaka Rin the truth, that there is a witch just as strong as Elsa Maria coming to Mitakihara in short order, and that you don't know how under control you'll really have things when it makes landfall?

Caught between a rock and a hard place, you decide that the truth is ultimately the better reflection on you than obfuscation. "I have reason to believe that another witch just as strong as the previous one may make landfall in the city on the morning of May the first."

"Well, that's unfortunate," Tohsaka Rin says, lacing her fingers together as her eyes bore into your own. "Though not wholly unexpected, either. The others did all mention something to the effect of another super-powerful witch making landfall. To be honest, I wasn't expecting you to just come out and say it. But-" There always has to be a 'but', doesn't there? "-that leaves us with a bit of a problem. See, if I go back to London and tell the Association that everything's fine, how do you think they'll react when this other witch just completely blindsides them?"

"I asked myself the same question, actually. It's why I decided to tell you the truth, rather than letting you go back home unaware."

Tohsaka Rin nods her head. "Good call. But at the same time, how do you think the Association will act if I go home and tell them that this whole affair really is going to happen again? Do you think they'll be comfortable letting another event like this happen under their watch? An event which, might I remind you, already has them terrified that their secrets will be revealed. Do you think they'll just let that slide either?"

"It won't be exactly the same situation. I don't know why, but this witch appeared outside of its labyrinth in its true form; that's never happened before. This witch is also powerful enough to appear outside of its labyrinth, but it cloaks its true form in the guise of a natural disaster. There's no risk that magic will be revealed to the world because of this witch, unless someone who shouldn't be there-" Someone like Madoka "-slips out of the shelters."

"You're talking as though you've had experience with this witch before." Oh, if only she knew.

"Not necessarily." That's a lie. "It's something of a well-known secret among, well, my kind, that super-powerful witches like this one tend to appear on the date of the festival of Walpurgisnacht. This wouldn't be the first time a witch like this has made landfall somewhere, at some point in history, but only people like myself, who can see the witch for what it truly is, have any idea of its existence. The previous witch was an aberration in every sense of the word; but this witch, for all its power, is a fairly regular occurrence among my kind, common enough that word gets around when one of them is heading our way."

Tohsaka Rin cocks a curious eye at your words, and she asks "So, how do you know it'll be making landfall here? If a witch like this can appear anywhere, what makes you sure that it's coming to this city?"

"Tracking this witch is a lot like tracking a tropical storm. Technically, it could make landfall just about anywhere along the coast. Our projections show a fairly good chance that it'll make landfall in Mitakihara, but they aren't flawless. Mustering an Association hit squad to pre-emptively wipe out the target city would be wasteful, especially given that they might hit the wrong city if our models prove to be incorrect."

Tohsaka Rin sighs, scratching the back of her head as she says "Well, you've certainly given me a lot to think about. Send Shizuki in on your way out, will you? I'd like to talk with her before I head out."

"Will you be staying in the city for long?"

"Maybe a day or two longer, I don't know. Just to observe how things are going, you know? I'll probably have McRemitz stay here until all this blows over, just so there's one other person besides Ortensia around to keep an eye on things... Assuming I can get in touch with her, that is."

I see." Just as you did for McRemitz-san, who to your surprise still hasn't responded to the text you sent her, you offer your phone number to Tohsaka Rin, saying "Feel free to get in touch with me if you need anything during your stay."

"Right. I'll do that."

At last, it's over. While you're indebted to Tohsaka Rin for sticking her neck out for you and this city, you can't deny that her appearance here so suddenly has been unduly stressful. Dealing with Asako Koito will be, by comparison, a walk in the park. "Now, what are we going to do about Asako Koito?" you ask. "The way I see it, we have two options; we can either convince her to give up her Soul Gem for cleansing, or we can make her hand it over by force."

There is a third option, but one which you don't have to bring up, as Mikuni Oriko does so for you. "And, what are the chances of getting her to cooperate if I agree to her own terms, and beg her sister's spirit for forgiveness?" It's fair to say that you've been trying to avoid taking that route; your team has the position of power in negotiations; Asako Koito has nothing except her stubbornness. And yet, that stubbornness has managed to hold out and given her a power position all her own, hasn't it? It's to the point where you need her cooperation just to keep her from witching out. "Even if no one else does, I want to have faith that she will relent if I accept her terms."

"I can ask Caster if there's something he has in his possession which we can use to... How do I say this?" Tomoe-san has to pause and think about her choice of words, before settling on "Forcibly activate, I guess you might say, her Soul Gem- To get to to change out of its ring form so that Akemi-san can grab it and cleanse it during a timestop."

You nod, and say "Good. While you're doing that-" you turn to Mikuni Oriko "-can you take a look at the future and tell us what sort of time frame we're working with? I'd like to know if, while we're sitting here debating what to do, we're not accidentally giving Asako Koito the time she needs to turn into a witch." Mikuni Oriko nods, and Kure Kirika takes her hand as she enters her trance state.

While you wait for Mikuni Oriko to give her report of the future, your gaze turn expectantly to Tomoe-san, on whom you wait for Caster's response. Unfortunately, "Caster tells me that he does not have something which could force Koito-san's Soul Gem to behave as we wish; at least, not something that would accomplish that without also killing her in the process, he says."

"That's unfortunately," you say; it also means you'll have to be able to convince Asako Koito to give up her Soul Gem willingly. If she turns into a witch now, she'll only succeed in damning the people she calls her friends out of nothing more than spite.

Then again, you're not quite sure she cares about anything but her revenge, at this point.
Hopefully, Mikuni Oriko has better news. "We do have time," she says; but there's more, you know that tone all too well. "However, I am still fearful of the witch that I saw in Namekata Akira's future. I don't know if it is Koito-san's witch or not, but if it is we may not have much time. We should have addressed this matter sooner, I'm afraid."

"But there is still time, right?" Mikuni Oriko nods; good, even in delaying dealing with this there is still time; but you don't trust that time to last. Forcing Asako Koito won't work, at least not without whatever Caster has in store also killing her; so you'll have to hope that diplomacy, that appealing to whatever human decency Asako Koito still has left that she hasn't discarded in her quest for revenge, will be enough to convince her to comply.

"Then we have only one option."

I know I didn't give Rin our phone number as she was leaving, but that will be done after I make the edits to our conversation with her.

o_o
I'm kinda wishing my vote at the start of the day went through, at least to give us the chance to try and appeal to Koito's friendship with Akira and Miyuki earlier on when we still had more time, when Homura would've realized she had no way of cleansing Koito's Soul Gem through time-stop shenanigans. What's done is done though, I suppose.

[X] Plan Precautions
-[X] What do you tell her?
--[X] You believe that a super-Witch might pay a visit to Mitakihara in the near future, though last you heard (read in inner-thoughts as 'seen') of it it was on a similar destructive and durability level as Elsa Maria, sans the self-replicating familiars, though it can grow stronger over time. You're not certain (which is true, as this timeline is weird), however you're going to operate on the assumption that it might hit landfall here. Inform her of what you know about the Witch, in that it is fully formed and travels from place to place, generally when you're expecting it to attack somewhere in Japan, and how it certainly wasn't born in Mitakihara at least. Technically, Walpurgisnacht could hit landfall in any city or place in Japan, disguised as a natural disaster, so it wouldn't warrant attempting to wipe out any single city in Japan before it potentially arrives somewhere.
-[X] Mobilize the team (sans Kyoko, obviously) to the Church so that you can try to talk down Koito
--[X] On your way there, ask Mami if she could ask Caster about what would be the best possible way to prevent Koito from Witching out, and where appealing to her friendship with Akira and Miyuki would range on that scale
---[X] Depending on Caster's advice, follow it accordingly (if he gives anything meaningful); the specifics of which will be determined once you've sought this advice, and before entering the Church proper

And, what are we planning on saying to Koito in this vein? We barely know how or her friends, save for what Oriko's told us about them, which admittedly is almost certainly biased against them in some way.

Something along the lines of "if you don't cleanse your Soul Gem, you'll kill your friends"? I'm not sure why Homura would need to know more about them in order to appeal to Koito's friendship with her, y'know, friends, so she doesn't kill them.

Because we don't know whether she's deep in a grief spiral, or just really laser-focused on revenge, or both; she might need to be reminded of why they're her friends in the first place, rather than just saying "they're your friends" or something like that. And if we don't know what her friends are like or why they're her friends, then we can't do that.

I'm gonna say she's probably a bit of both, the revenge and negative feelings she's feeling in relation to her active hatred of Oriko is probably fueling her potential grief spiral.

I mean, as long as she cares about them at all, I don't think it's that much of a stretch to say that she'd accept to have her Soul Gem cleansed to prevent her from Witching out and killing her friends. It's not like she'd be accepting the Geis or giving in or anything, she'd just be safeguarding her own life and her supposed friends, and Homura could press that.

If Koito goes nuclear (not Witching out) and actively shows disregard to her apparent friends and their lives, then Homura would have cause to exfiltrate Akira and Miyuki, and take actions from there.

To be fair, isn't Walpurgisnacht relatively known amongst most veteran Puella Magi? Heck, even Kyoko knows about the super-Witch and says that Walpurgisnacht is "the most powerful Witch" before she died in Episode 9. Walpurgisnacht's name is well known by many Puella Magi, and her appearances are commonly known to mimic natural disasters. I'm guessing Walpurgisnacht's been around for a long time, considering how well known she is among Puella Magi populations.

Re, this line of dialogue about Walpol:

Personally, I've never been able to figure out whether - because remember, Walpol doesn't have a known name - that specific conglomerate witch is what is known about and that is appearance on the festival of Walpurgisnacht is where it gets its name, or that it's known that conglomerate witches appear on the date of the festival of Walpurgisnacht, hence the name for an otherwise unnamed witch.

Either way, yes, it's not an unknown in this world. But Rin would still not appreciate a dodgy answer.

Just have her say Caster told her, it's not exactly outside of the realm of Caster's trademark dodgy and only semi-helpful predictions, afterall. :V

In all seriousness, I'm guessing that Homura can just say "It's always appears on Walpurgis Night". She probably only appears in areas the Incubator is actively contracting Puella Magi and creating Witches, at this time it's Japan. Actually, that might be why the Incubator moves it's operations around the world over time, such as it's hinted by the 'Puella Magi of Old' flashbacks, and would be a fitting analogy to the self-destructive nature of the Incubator's experiments.

Day 34 Chapter 12
[X] Plan Precautions

Forcing Asako Koito to hand over her Soul Gem won't work, at least not without whatever Caster has in store also killing her; so you'll have to hope that diplomacy, that appealing to whatever human decency Asako Koito still has left that she hasn't discarded in her quest for revenge, will be enough to convince her to comply.

"Then we have only one option. We have to try talking to her."

All eyes fall on Mikuni Oriko; this situation is, whether one wishes to admit it or not, entirely on her shoulders, and you suspect that it will have to be through Mikuni Oriko's words that the situation is resolved. You don't have a problem with speaking to Asako Koito if that is what it takes to convince her, but depending on the situation you may not be adequately equipped to handle things. If Asako Koito is deep in a Grief spiral, or has in her laser-guided focus discarded everything but her desire for revenge, simply pleading for her to consider the lives of her friends she would be putting at risk if she allowed herself to turn into a witch may not be enough. She may need to be reminded of why they are her friends in the first place, and you don't know any of them well enough to successfully convince her on that front. But Mikuni Oriko does.

"I am glad that we are choosing to speak with Koito-san," Mikuni Oriko says. "But at the same time, I am afraid. I am the reason her sister is dead. I am the reason why anger has taken hold of her. If she turns into a witch, it will be entirely my fault; and I am afraid that even begging her sister's spirit for forgiveness may not be enough at this point."

Tomoe-san smiles for MIkuni Oriko, saying to her "I'm sure we'll find a way to save her, Mikuni-san."

"It'd be, what do you call it... Uh, poetic justice," Kure Kirika says. "Akemi and Tomoe saved us, so now you've got the chance to save someone else."

Her lover's words bring a smile to Mikuni Oriko's face, and she says with renewed confidence "Very well. I will believe in myself, just as everyone else here believes in me. The Asakos have already lost one daughter to my actions; so as God is my witness, I shall do everything in my power to keep them from losing another."

You aren't much of a believer yourself, but you imagine that God will hold Mikuni Oriko to her word. But how much does her word mean to Asako Koito?

Your group of four stands outside of the Sakura Church. You've brought no servants with you, but this being a diplomatic mission, you're hoping none will be necessary.

"Before we go inside," you say, turning to Tomoe-san, "I want to hear is Caster has any advice for us. If we're on the right track in attempting to appeal to Asako Koito's friendships to keep her from witching out, if there's a best possible way to go about this, or if there's some way of preventing Asako Koito from turning into a witch that we wouldn't think of without his input, I'd like to hear from him, whatever advice he's willing to give."

Tomoe-san nods, saying "Of course. I'll see if there's any suggestions he might have for us."

As Tomoe-san retreats to the conversation inside her mind, Mikuni Oriko approaches you. "Akemi-san, I have a... Request, I would like to make of you. It's, well, it's a bit of an odd request, actually, but I'd like for you to trust me on this."

Well, this is unusual. Since becoming your ally, Mikuni Oriko has seldom asked anything of you, save that your offer of a more lenient Gies be given to Kure Kirika and not her. Perhaps she feels that she hasn't done enough to deserve the right. You would disagree, especially after her assistance on Friday night; but you can only know as much about her thoughts as she is willing to share. "We're allies; you can feel free to make any request you'd like."

"Then..." The words on Mikuni Oriko's tongue hesitate, as though she's trying to ask something of you fundamentally opposed to who she believes herself to be. "... Then, may I borrow one of your pistols? Just for the night, that is."

You cock a confused eye to Mikuni Oriko, and say "You're right, that is a strange request to make. I thought you were trying to live life the nonviolent way, so where did this come from?"

"I only need the pistol, Akemi-san, not the bullets it fires. I... I have a hunch, about how things will turn out tonight, and if I am proven correct I should like to have the means of intimidating Koito-san without the risk of causing her harm, even unintentionally."

"I have word from Caster," Tomoe-san says, interrupting your huddle with MIkuni Oriko before you can give her a response. "Apparently, he trusts that the situation is within our capacity to handle. While uplifting to know that he trusts us to make the right decision, I don't know how helpful his 'advice' actually is to us, nor was I able to pry an answer from him as to whether there was a 'best' way to approach the situation, or even a 'better' way; only that we're not taking the wrong way."

Bit of a short post tonight, but we've also got an update to the previous one in the form of our solo conversation with Rin.

[x] It's somewhat helpful

[x] give Mikuni Oriko a pistol, and trust that she knows what she's doing

[] "If you dead set on trying to kill her, can you at least put it off of a month or two?"

... That's all I seem to be coming up with.

[X] Plan The Negotiations Were Not Short
-[X] It's very helpful
-[X] give Mikuni Oriko a pistol, and trust that she knows what she's doing
--[X] and it'll be filled with blank bullets to prevent Koito and co from realizing it's not loaded
-[X] When should Archer's present to Kure Kirika be discussed?
--[X] Sometime after this whole debacle ends, circumstances depending; it'll probably be today, though
-[X] Before anyone enters the Church, use Kyuubey Radio to talk to Akira and Miyuki
--[X] First and foremost, ask them to try not to give any outward signs that this conversation is going on, as it's highly likely Koito's going into a Grief Spiral and if she finds out that you're communicating with them she might take it as a betrayal despite that not being the case
---[X] Inform them that you and an unspecified number of allies are going to be going down there in order to bargain with Koito before she inevitably Witches out (read: pretty much dies) with them (Akira and Miyuki) in the crossfire
----[X] You need to know whether or not you can rely on Koito's friendship with them in order to hopefully talk her down, just knowing the strength and the honesty of their friendships with Koito will suffice. Press that you don't want anymore people to die on your watch (including Koito), regardless of if Koito will give into their demands or not.
-[X] What do you say to Asako Koito?
--[X] First, try and go in alone, take a seat, and calmly but with sincerity try to ask Koito how she's doing Grief-wise
---[X] Making herself emotionally suffer like this isn't going to help her or her friends at all, and press that she doesn't have to agree to your demands but she should make sure that she lasts long enough to at least see whatever goals she has through; press that you don't want her or Akira and Miyuki to die, despite any grievances they might have with you and your team, which is why you've been trying to sort everything out where no one gets hurt (physically) or dies
----[X] Assuming she doesn't go ballistic, tell her and her friends about your teams recent discovery, in that you've discovered how to cleanse Grief Seeds and reuse them making the need to hunt Witches a non-priority, and that assuming things end up fine or okay after this whole situation is resolved (whether it be in your side's favor or Koito's demands are fulfilled) you're willing to offer them free Grief Seed cleanses for as long as they're in contact with you and/or your team so that they could live a more normal and less dangerous lives; offer Koito a clean Grief Seed
--[X] What do you say/do if it doesn't work?
---[X] Let everyone else in, or at least those who want to come in, sans Kirika who will probably be told not to come in by Oriko due to common sense
----[X] Let Oriko do whatever she feels she needs to do, you're putting your trust in her
-[X] When should Mikuni Oriko give in to Asako Koito's demands?
--[X] Whenever she feels she needs or wants to; this is her choice to make
--[X] Should Mikuni Oriko be allowed to give in to Asako Koito's demands?
---[X] If they're harmless like Koito's demands had been previously, then you're all for it; that may change if Koito starts demanding some pretty outrageous things like asking Oriko to commit suicide in front of her or something equally stupid
----[X] If it involved Oriko and the gun you gave her, then allow it go on

Honestly, Homura and co pretty much got Caster's GilgaSeal of Approval. It's very helpful to know that what they're going to attempt to do isn't going to have any catastrophic consequences, unless someone really messes things up.

I'm just going to say that "Seal of Gilgapproval" rolls off the tongue much better than your attempt.

We needs votes, people.
