"Papa, we've been plotting high treason against the Star Empress..."

I was more worried about the "giving Homura illegal possession of a nonmagical firearm" and "hacking and falsifying airport security records to get Oriko detained" parts. XD

I don't think this is a good idea, for one it might make our wings less fluffy, but also being 28 parts despairing Simona vs 32 parts Clarisse isn't going to be good for our health. And as Tomoyo said, it may go against the do not make out with Ryouko directive. It would be better to give our the feathers to the magical girls for safe keeping. Prevents people getting overwhelmed by the feathers while still being looked after.

Good point, edited my vote.

Did I miss something? I though that the star magic is different to Ryoukos?

...

I like the first and last line of this better then my vote, the rest of it I think isn't the best sort of thing to ask, as I said above.

See Tomoyo's reply.

Any specific rationale here from you or @AceJade?

The word rationale implies I am voting based on logic, when really I just really love Princess Tutu. <3

I can try to retroactively justify it in logical terms I guess:

1. Other people have pointed out some heavy foreshadowing about Tomoyo's ballet production being plot relevant or something so we should be prepared
2. There was a discussion in this thread that you (as in Tomoyo) seemed to endorse that implied ballet might be useable for ritual magic or something.
3. It'll be a nice break from all the witch hunting, and a bonding opportunity with our non-contractee friends and sister since they can't safely witch hunt and have been mostly out of focus for the last several updoots
4. If we control the club we can continue our life of crime by embezzling club funds for magical girl activities if need be I guess???
5. Cover story for why we all hang out together in case the police or school authorities ever get suspicious (again)
6. You (Tomoyo) seem to love ballet so from a metagaming perspective we can safely assume ballet will lead to good things.
7. Our resident anti-ballet lobbyist isn't voting right now, so this is our best chance to get a ballet vote passed.

But those aren't the reason for my vote, only justifications I came up with retroactively.

Maybe Plank has an actual rationale for their ballet vote?

If we're serious about the ballet thing, I'd be tempted to phrase it differently: probably along the lines of

"[ ] Plot to become a ballerina
- [ ] Ask Hitomi about watching one of her lessons"

This is ... probably not a big deal? It just seems easier to go through someone who already have a slipper in the door with regards to the whole ballet thing.

...

Actually that's a lie, it's officially a big deal now because I just realized while typing this that the other reason this phrasing appeals to me is that it's a bit less ... assertive? That's not normally a bad thing, but -

I like phrasing this in such a way that we ask our sister if we can join her in doing something she loves. I like the intimacy of it. I like the normalcy of it, of just - talking to family about dance lessons. I like that we approach Hitomi as an authority; that we respect that this will not be easy and have come to ask help from the more experienced.

Actually, I really like that we approach Hitomi for help on something very normal and grounded, come to think of it. I think she could use that.

The "maybe see if Hitomi or anyone else is interested in starting/joining a ballet club together once school resumes" phrasing feels far too much like ...

Well, like Clarisse being Clarisse, which is also not normally a bad thing; but I think might not be the best way to approach this particular challenge?

It's such a characteristically Clarisse thing, though - in how we present it as something of a fait accompli, in how it sort of leans into our habit of micromanaging people a bit - and I think this is maybe a time not to be characteristically Clarisse. A time to not be the scheduler and organizer, the one who has to be responsible, whose job and duty and existence revolves around managing other people.

It's okay if we have ulterior motives. It's okay if we're sort of only doing this because of future-knowledge. It's okay if it's, on some level, a group bonding activity for the Gang of Nice meant to increase unit cohesion. But I don't want to present it like that, I guess?

I think there's a serious difference between Clarisse saying, "Hitomi, I've been thinking of starting a ballet group with the Gang, would you like to join?" and her saying "Hitomi, I think I'm interested in ballet, could I maybe sit in on one of your lessons and watch?"

And part of that difference is how Hitomi takes it, which is important, and which matters. But part of that difference is how Clarisse means it, which is important and matters.

Ugh. I'm having a hard time articulating my point, as the page of word vomit can attest; but I need to go cook dinner and so I'll just post this, hope it makes sense, and frantically try and explain it once I get back.

This is such a lovely post.

In the service of understanding Hitomi, I would like to remind people that she has quite recently asked her Papa to cut back on the rest of her extracurriculars, to focus on ballet, and her timing was such that it certainly suggests this decision was catalyzed by all the things which have been happening.

Suggested topics of reflection which may be fruitful:
Who here has watched enough Sailor Moon to remember Crystal Tokyo?
What has been going on in Hitomi's life since your arrival?
How might she feel about all of this happening?
How might the decision to focus on ballet reflect all of that?

I originally had what I thought was the reason, but in hindsight with this post, its clearly half of what happened, and it isn't Hitomi's reason at all. Obviously her improvements might be because of the implants giving her general purpose improvements, however that is why she was approached by her tutor, not why she decided to accept, why she accepted is clearly a different matter.

The vote about not being as assertive from @Thelxiope is good and will be taking that, for all the reasons given.

@AceJade I also need to point out your vote is missing the section on Sakura's feather.

Anyway, my updated vote:

[X][Simona feathers] Scheme to clone another Simona body for them
-[X] Distribute Simona feathers to all magical girls and us until then
--[X]Remind them not to mention or hand over the feathers to Kyubey

[X][Sakura feather] Leave it inside Clarisse for now
-[X] Hide the wings once we leave the room

[X][Ribbon] Give Homura one ribbon, tell her to handle it gingerly.
-[X] Contingency: If this results in G!Homura hijacking her body, ask her for info and discuss with her how to fix the Governance timeline.
-[X] Contingency: Warn homura of all of the things we have experienced while we have had a ribbon.

[X][Princess]Thank her for saving our lives and offer our friendship.
-[x]Ask if she has any advice on how to use feather magic since it apparently vaguely resembles her magic
-[x[Ask her if she has any advice on what to do with Simona's feathers.
-[x]Wish her good luck on fixing things in the Star Empire, and let her know we're happy to be of assistance if she needs it.

[X][Nextdoot] Plan Princess Tutu
-[X] Let yourself be fluffed by Kyouko
--[X] Contemplate soul gems and feathers
--[X] Talk with Kyouko:
---[X] Reassure her that just because our culture supports consensual polyamory doesn't mean we'll nonconsensually cheat on her.
-[X] Plot to become a ballerina
--[X] Ask Hitomi about watching one of her lessons
-[x] Speak with Papa briefly about everything
--[x] Gloss over the parts where we flagrantly violated the law
-[X] DO NOT go mad with power

[X][Later]
-[X] Contact Machina, fill her in and then ask what Mami and Oriko have been up to.
-[X] Speak with Nanami, Yuma and Oriko about healing someone from soul feathers.

So I just found this gem of a post, from a cute, inconsequential little conversation about the nonsensical nomenclature of grief seeds, months before grief potatoes are mentioned in the updates proper:
In before grief potatoes.
I just want to express something I've sometimes though to myself privately, which is that if anyone involved in this quest is a monster, it's you, @tomoyo; not Clarisse. A fun monster, maybe, because I do like finding these on some level, but...

brb after I read every post you've ever made and insert my analysis of them into my ongoing timeline project, oh gracious and magnanimous qm.

EDIT: I just re-read this and it comes off as way saltier than I actually am? Sorry, sorry! Also calling you a monster was uncalled for, even if the amount of foreshadowing and preplanning that goes into this is scary.

Why are we glossing over the parts where we broke the law? It just seems silly. I mean maybe I am projecting my own experience where my dad's crushed anarchist dreams would kind of revel in it, but I seriously doubt papa is going to care, or even think of it as "breaking the law".

I just started watching Clear Card today so I can understand some of what's going on here, so I actually get this reference now!

(I called it enough Clear Card for the day after Hulu gave me the fifth R-rated horror movie ad, which put me off my animes.)

Since it's still extremely unclear what the actual right way to proceed, I'm going to engage in blatant plagerism:

Hope you enjoy!!!! Clear Card is really good. <3

And yeah Hulu's ad system sucks, I try to avoid it like the plague. =[

For anyone who might not get the reference: Touya is Sakura's older brother and frequently calls her a monster. (it's played for comedy, in the affectionate siblings pick on each other but really love each other sense)

In particular in japanese he calls her a Kaiju, so a monster like Godzilla or Mothra, not say hannibal lector.

Where as our tomoyo is clearly the second. :p

Uhhhhhm I should mention I've never watched Clear Card fwiw ;)
I've read one volume, and watched classic Cardcaptor...
and a season or so of Tsubasa Chronicle...

I haven't had the time or energy for more than a token level of participation lately, so at this point, there's only one thing I'm certain that I want:

[x] Ask for a clear and unambiguous explanation of what the fuck is going on.

[x] Ask for a clear and unambiguous explanation of what the fuck is going on.

Could I get you be ever so slightly more specific with your token participation?

Are you more concerned with explanations of how the temporal parts work or how souls work? And who would you like to ask? Kyuubey? Madoka? The Universe, via Science™? Some future, possibly paradox-erased, counterpart? Simona/Abraxas, right now, through her soul and maybe some ribboning? Would you consider using shards of the soul of Simona's witch, to attempt spacetime-viewing shenanigans, and extract an answer with that magic?

Never mind. I'd forgotten that Alternate Tomoyo already left.

Still need to watch Clear Card, but I want to wrap up the classic and watch the movies first.

Never saw Tsuabasa though, never really wanted to, though I know the whole soul scattering and reincarnation mess going on.

Who here has watched enough Sailor Moon to remember Crystal Tokyo?

Speculation:

Who here has watched enough Sailor Moon to remember Crystal Tokyo? Me I love Crystal Tokyo <3
What has been going on in Hitomi's life since your arrival? Everything happens so much
How might she feel about all of this happening? Probably as confused as the rest of us
How might the decision to focus on ballet reflect all of that? It's difficult to focus on multiple extracurriculars when you're in the middle of Ground Zero of a Time War involving aliens, magical girls, witches, AIs, people from the future-past, alternate universe, cyborgs, and universe-hoppers and you've suddenly found yourself magiced with two sisters who are actually your great-great-granddaughters after your school went boom and you woke up as a cyborg.

Huh.

I take it from this that it's not actually a neat stealth reference that Shizuki Hitomi really, really looks a lot like middle-school age Kinomoto Nadeshiko, then?

Unless there were similar flashbacks in original-flavor Cardcaptor Sakura of which I am not aware by virtue of having never watched it; which seems a little unlikely based on context but is possible, how should I know?

...I was all psyched about how that was really neat, what with the Papa Shizuki - Nadeshiko equivalence here.

Anyway! In other news, the timeline project proceeds apace! I'm on track to get all of the tedious indexing done over the weekend. Once that's done, next on the docket are quick update summaries; then tagging of topics of interest; and then finally the actual analysis for each update; all of which I am much more excited for!

...I don't have too much free time I don't know what you're talking about.

yes, I understand that Tsubasa plot makes Simona's timeline look straightforward

Well, maybe, but she'd only just barely gotten into any of that at the time!

Having thought about it, I'll remove that line from my vote. Papa isn't stupid, he will know we were up to something, and he won't like we are hiding things from him. He doesn't want to lose a daughter after all. Additionally there is nothing that is that bad in context.
