So, I'm skeptical about the reforms that Eredan enforces will work out. Either the women will only be figureheads and the men will really rule in peace in the shadows or he'll try to give them true power and they'll be widespread societal collapse.

Entrenched misogyny is not so easily erased ... especially by someone who is still a sexist and will probably go "welp, I guess that obviously won't work".

The thing is that between the collapse and Eredan killing off the old priesthood and nobility, the social inertia of the old Forluc culture is gone and has replaced by the divergent culture of their northern colonies.

Still Eredan is a sexist who benefited under the previous Forluc administration (if the countless women he slept with and many children are any indication). Evatine called him a "monster". How different will this new Forluc be from the old one, really? And can we have any hand in shaping it via diplomacy?

I'm pretty sure that it was explained in the update already. The further up in hierarchy you go women have more right.

If you are commoner not much will change probably, a little better but women are probably still lesser while inside the royal family and ruling calss they have more rights.

That is how i understood it though.

The Forluc have gotten rid of their misogyny in favour of gender-based discrimination as you have certain jobs that considered to be done by women and other jobs that are done by men. Furthermore, they have gotten rid of their xenophobia in exchange taking cues from the local top dog to try and emulate their success (currently the Arthwyd). Because of that, they are no longer trying to be the best overall, but trying to be the best internally as the Forluc are encouraged to be the best that they can even if others might be better.

Additionally, the chances are relevant to the upper classes and to a degree, the middle classes. For the lower classes, life mostly goes on the same as before as they try to get by except a bit nicer and easier. Additionally, they don't try to avoid the predatory attention of the upper classes, but instead try to court it in order to improve their blessing and lot in life.

Oh wow. That is a major benefit. Providing the downtrodden an easily known, if not easily done, way to increase in rank. That is one way of decreasing the chance of a popular revolt.

So, lastly, the "Sacred Guardian-Generals" is there any conception among the populous in what it actually is or do they see Colryd as "just a vassal".

Or perhaps part of the People since we settled and not just claim it.

My not-so-inconsiderable hope is the Codified Laws Megaproject will help there.

The Forluc imploded so hard they leveled up and lost their most self destructive traits.
Yup. They went Pragmatic Evil instead of Chaotic Stupid. And now we're surrounded by two hyper-competent evil civs. Dangerous, but fun. And clearly, they are talking behind our backs, and Arthryn just doesn't care. I guess there is something to the argument of the people becoming arrogant from their success.

Urthryn was a very dangerous schemer even as a mortal, and Nalnir has shown alarming adaptability by shifting pretty much his whole civ in response to taking a loss.

Yeah... We don't have any problems with the Coltyre right? their at least one side of our border not bordered by enemies?

They thought taking our closest ally's capital was a bit dickish but understandable, invading a trading partner during a period of weakness would just be common sense to them. That boarder is safe as long as we can keep it safe.

Who knows.

We may steal their capital too so I wouldnt bet on it staying that way. /s

Yes im still salty. Grumble.

And I dont think any amount of diplo will get the IMMORTAL leaders of some of the civs we couldve allied with to ever really trust us again at least not in the way they did before. Now theyre aware we'll screw em over if the opportunity presents itself. The followers may forget like the arthwyd did with urth but barring their deaths, the caradysh sucessors, let alone eira, are always gonna keep that in mind now. Whereas before it was more a niggling thought in the back of their head in comparison.

Idk. I may be fear mongering and i hope I am and this isnt the case, but no doubt our actions opened a door we cant close now.

You're definitely fearmongering.

Although we see things as nations being hive minds of individuals united in whatever purpose we give them, the reality is very far from that.
If an immortal were to get screwed over by a state, then why would they still hold a grudge hundreds of years later when everyone else who was alive at the time is dead?

An immortal would instead try to change the minds of people in said civ until they get what they felt screwed over from. We saw this with Eira, who got back what she wanted literally the turn after she lost it, so there is no reason for any immortal to shake their heads and think the Arthwyd are a lost cause.

In 5 turns what we did is going to be irrelevant to everyone so long as we push for normalizing relations.

In all likelihood im letting my personal feelings regarding betraying deals, if not in word then in spirit, the way we did with the colryd color my opinion on whatll happen.

I reserve the right to grumble if every mutual defense treaty we make from now on ends up including a "You dont get to take our cities if we lose them during the war, asshole," clause.

I actually hope to do a Mysticism/Culture run on the Colryd and Foresters, actually bring them into our fold.

Initially, during my read through, before that mess with Forluc, I was all for killing Urth before he could ascend. I wanted to see Brys' conquest of the Cursed Forest.

Only for him and his childhood friend to be killed off anticlimactically.

I read the turns following and came to the conclusion that we simply weren't going to go against them. Then Urth ascended, became Urthryn, and that was that.

Since it's too late to beat her (and indiscriminately attacking the Daughters is no good) may as well join her.

Before she develops her own (possibly hostile) pantheon I want to go in and convert her people.

But she wouldn't be added to the pantheon as another Daughter.

But as a dark version of the Mother.

I mean it makes sense. Arthryn and Urthryn. The names are already familiar. She also has Daughters (four immortal undead ones) and has access to magic (Arcane versus Divine). The Foresters (and Colryd?) can just revere that part of the pantheon and to the rest of the kingdom she would only be prayed to as a stopgap against being raised as a Undead after death. She would be the Goddess of Restful Death along with Undead. Like how in ASoIaF the Stranger is prayed to stave off Death.

So, Dark But Not Evil, essentially.

You all want to allocate resource on converting/friending Forester...

I just want boats and interaction with new civs.

Clearly we have some mutually exclusive desires.

Not really? I don't mind doing that too.

We're going to have a lot of actions.

Edit: Now that I think of it, a Harbor Megaproject could be in the cards...

I find it highly unlikely that a harbor megaproject is in the cards for the simple reason that megaprojects are one-civ-only, and I would be surprised if other civs didn't focus more strongly on navies than we do.
