Urth's first hand experience is that messing with the Arthryn isn't all that bad.

I mean, compare and contrast
The Forluc threw 3 massive armies at us just because we existed, to the point of destroying their own society just to get at us.
Urth hijacks the mind of our leader, tries to hijack the minds of 2 more leaders/heroes, murders another leader, creates a civil war, and we go with a very generous peace treaty after sending just 1 single secondary attack against her. We don't even hold a grudge (IC, at least).

I'm pretty sure that Urth's actual opinion is "Don't mess with Arthryn without a plan", but that's not exactly a diplomatic thing to say.
It could also be that Urth is cautioning Nalnir specifically not to mess with Arthryn.
When Urth did it, she was perfectly willing to offer up literally everything but her life in payment, and was very persistent on doing so. That we took her up on basically none of it is our fault, but I digress.

Nalnir seems much less likely to do anything of the sort, so if he messes with Arthryn we will likely keep fighting until we beat some concessions out of his nation.
 
I see no reason to trust Urth or Nalnir on their word. They've given us no reason to trust them, and plenty of reason to distrust. Urth, we know, is perfectly willing and capable of manipulating their supposed friends into a war by getting innocent civilians slaughtered. She happily used infiltration and subversion to assassinate or kidnap people on several occasions.

In addition, the claim she makes is not that credible.

Urth claims that messing with Arthryn's followers isn't worth it.
But we know that a massive amount of her current society, as well as her current divinity, is based on stuff she got from messing with us.
The price she paid for that is comparatively tiny :
- Part of her forest got raided
- Some Lowland relations were lost as part of her treason
- She had to send a bit of research our way, as well as 1 Temp Martial.

We lost far more in the war with her, or in the Forluc war, and we gained less. But I woulds still say that either of those wars were worth it.

So, the question is. Did Urthryn somehow become a pacifist, or is she being free with the truth for diplomatic purposes?

Well, from Urth's experience we are the 'Northern Demons'.

We came out of nowhere and butchered his forces, when he first became immortal.
Then generations later we invaded his midland region, and killed a number of revenants. The revenants we killed likely included a number of Urth's friends.
While he defended his territory, we killed him resulting in the loss of all Caradysh territory outside the forest.
Once he recovered, he investigated the Maradysh. Discovering that we were engaging in a campaign of cultural and religious conversion, he realised that we were a major threat. He tried to assassinate our royal family and steal our magic, which he partly succeeded at.
We retaliated and invaded his forest, shattering her defences. We spent years slaughtering our way to her capital and were only barely stopped by becoming trapped between her capital's walls and the recalled southern army. She captured our Cadlon and attempted to convert him into a servant, but the captives turned themselves into stone. Arthryn then used their sacrifice to create a holy site dedicated to Arthryn in the heart of her territory. The goddesses can emerge from that holy site and assault the Caradysh core at any time.
Knowing that she could not defeat our military or goddesses, Urth decided to use her daughters to engage in diplomacy with everyone. We refused the (fairly generous) peace terms.
She managed to convince the Maradysh to ally with her against us, only for the Arthryn- worshipping Maradysh to attack her new allies. All Maradysh who were willing to make peace with the Caradysh were genocided.
We began to expand into the lowlands, and only accepted peace with the Caradysh due to the danger the Forluc posed.
She ascended to godhood, and on her return she found out that we had single-handedly won the war against the Forluc. She learned that we betrayed our ally by stealing their capital city under the cover of the war against the Forluc.

Urth basically suffered major losses against us repeatedly. Her only real success was absconding with a member of our royal family and taking those two blessings from us.


The tribute she paid for peace was much more than just 'a bit of research'. And if the Forluc war had gone as expected (she did not have the OOC knowledge that their economy was fragile) then her people faced significant danger by joining our war with them.

Depends on what happens in the update, but to please the Priestesses and Elders we should start Codified Law.


Priestesses (4) = Mood: Uncertain, Ability: Add half of faction power to Mystic, Objective: Begin in Codified Law 2 Turns, Success/Failure: ???/???
Elders (3 (5)) = Mood: Uncertain, Ability: Add half of their faction power to another faction, Objective: Complete Codified Law in 3 Turns, Success/Failure: ???/???
 
My thoughts.
Urth: as before don't trust this one. Our Goddess have a power advantage but she's power hungry. Her people getting up to shenanigans also might be a thing unless we shape up.
With Nalnir, the biggest worry is him joining Urth, but his civ, while bad, isn't that much of a threat...I think.
Going forward...
Hrmf, I dislike many of the decisions made but ultimately nothing seems like a major weakness/need to address. More infrastructure is good but I'm thinking I want to look outwards and continue to do so for awhile. Maybe if we can pick up another province auto-action, that can be put towards building any infrastructure we might still be missing.
 
For everyone making plans on what to do next turn, we will be having 5 player secondaries and 6 province secondaries.

Hello everyone! I just caught up and am very interested in participation.

So with that said,

As can be seen with improving relations both Mysticism and Culture also plays into things, with the concept of "if they understand us better they'll like us better".

Lastly went with Codified Law being on the fast track in the hopes that we can better define "Sacred Guardian-General" (I'm hoping that we formally recognize her as a indenpent Queendom within a larger kingdom. Basically, that she is still a Queen but recognize the Cadlon as a "High King").

Also, Mysticism should help define that "Sacred" part.

People are getting a bit myopic about where they want their marketplace to be built.

We have the ocean or sea available to us. Figure out who our neighbors actually are before the throwdown.

The whole point in taking Caermyr is that it's a center of trade. The core isn't located in a prime spot to trade with the rest of the known world.
