However, I decided to stick with them as it fitted with them being floodplains and lower than the giant mountain in the middle.

Considering the flooding where they live I'm surprised our hunters don't call them the Drowned Lands or Riverlands

As I said, I haven't bothered to change the name from the Lowlands. I might do so in time as the People may chose to call the Lowlands by a different name, but for now, they are the Lowlands due to being lower than the 12,000 metres tall colossus mountain that dominates the skyline.

12 km!? That's almost 50% higher than the Himalayan mountain range. Are we in monsoon area?

No, it is a natural wonder that dominates the local skyline. The reason for the massive size will need to be discover IC by the People before I tell you.

The weather will be what I decide it is for this world rather than how things work in real life so I don't have to do too much extensive research into how weather works and then apply it to the map I have created. Differences between the weather of this world and the real world can be chalked up to 'magic' in-universe.

If some Lowlanders decide to raid the new settlement, we should have an advantage to stand a chance against their professional warriors (like archers on boats). And Fishing can get us boats.

We are far af and so far the only people that like them so far
Especially since they are surrounded by enemies.
Also they have archers too. Of anything the river would allow for escape. All we do is prevent melee with out soldiers but the town would be forsaken and the soldiers shit at by arrows on both sides.
The main point if the settlement is to ensure the people have land claimed. We are far away from anyone else but that might change so let's establish an inland city.
After that I'm willing to do boats.
