Arc 3: Out of Jerris-diction: Mortynight Run.
Beth wandered into the communication room and just… Watched. She'd been so worried.

Sarah was glaring at the portal. "Just walk through it, please."

Space Beth's eyes flickered to Beth, showing visible relief, but focused back on dad. "And you swear it is safe?"

Sarah pinched the bridge of her nose. "Yes. But, and I must state this again for emphasis, everyone ELSE in the family is now protected from this molten liquid death orb even IF I wasn't trying to redirect the transitive position to target a different species. One that has a low population count and a low sexual compatibility to reduce half breed casualties."

Her dad leaned forward. "Now come through and let me enhance and reinforce your genetics and psionic field before someone too strong sneezes at you and wipes you from existence. Not to mention that I have concerns about your implants, those things need a full redesign no doubt."

The woman on the other end of the blue 'window' floating in the air snorted. "Now I KNOW you aren't a normal version of my Dad, he refuses to see ANY problems with his projects."

Sarah was in mid rant when she froze. "Shit. Hold that thought sweetie, another dimension just got black listed. MRS, send Beth… Local Beth, I mean, send your sister over here to take over."

A speaker next to a visibly amused but unnoticed woman spoke up. "Yes Ma'am? But…"

The other glowing blue portal to the side vanished. "Sorry MRS, I'm out of time. Tell her when she gets here that this button…" A pedestal formed into place with a big blue button. "Will open a portal to her sister when she agrees to come through. The Medical Pods are pretty automated, so when she comes through she can easily enough apply the same upgrades the rest of the family got, although she will be on a separate personal hive mind just like you and just like the local version of my sweetie."

A strange bone spike with blue flames formed in her hands as skeletal armor began fading into view. "Oh, and technically the blue button will open a portal anywhere you target MRS, so have fun with that, but no other portals are allowed within a significant distance from this ship. The defenses I set up should keep it safe, but there is a REASON I made this communication room so easily secured and defended… Anyway, just... Just keep the family safe."

Beth stood forward. "Dad?"

Sarah blinked. "Damn that was fast! No time to talk, ask the ship and get Space Beth her enhancements while I'm gone! You can contact me with your command node after I secure the survivors."

And the lab coat woman left through a blue tear in reality.

A confused part of her mind judged this blue form of portal was much more pretty than the normal toxic green one. The rest just stared with her space clone at the missing father.

Her space sister broke the silence. "Huh."

She threw a half hearted glare at the similar woman with mechanical enhancements. "I KNOW you were trolling her. You always do when Dad tries to talk."

The other woman had the grace to look a bit sheepish. "Yeah, sorry. Didn't know anything serious was going on after he confirmed the family was safe."

It was probably telling that neither of them felt the urge to mention Jerry's passing. That man had burned EVERY bridge possible.

She walked over, tapping the blue button, letting her other half walk through… And then wrapped her sister in a hug. "Thanks for coming home, Beth."

If there was a trembling in her weary space adventuring half, neither mentioned it. "Glad to have a home to come back to, Beth."

A slightly awkward digital cough came from the speakers. "Can… Can I assume that you both got Sarah's message? Good? Good. I'll go off and get the medical pods ready for the procedures."

One Beth raised an eyebrow at the other. "So what was all that 'enhanced ability' mumbo-jumbo our father flavored Ms. Bellum was talking about?"

A mental flex made the other woman jerk back as holograms began showing the various benefits her father had ensured her family now had. "Oh… One or two things, really."

~~~Broken Adventure~~~
Now that Adam had [[Harvested]] the laboratory of a mostly 'normal' Rick, it had been easy enough to have an alert mark when a new dimension hit the 'abandon' listings. It was, strangely enough, mostly determined by Jerry Smith.
At some point, one of the Ricks had discovered that if there was ANY hope of saving a dimension, a quick way to roughly determine it early and without work (Which was a vital and fundamentally important criteria for ANY Rick) was to check on the local Jerry.
If there was a way to betray his family, to flee, to hide, to slither out of death and danger… He would take it. To a nearly supernatural degree, that man would survive nearly everything.
So when Jerry dies, it was probably good to assume that the entire dimension was a write off too.
Not that anyone LIKED Jerry really, for a man who was nearly immortal when it came to risky and deadly situations he didn't do much of ANYTHING to make anyone's life better. Not even his own!
The man infuriated the Ricks because the bastard was almost like a carefully designed product who's only gift was survival at any cost.
No skills, no talents, no abilities… Nothing but selfish survival. And he was perfectly willing to betray, kill, steal, cross any line and do near anything to keep living. Even against other Jerrys, no less.
In the end, it was a major warning sign when a Jerry suddenly decided to 'hang out' or tried to sneak onto one of Rick's ships. And trying to kill him not only caused issues with other people (Some who didn't even care before!), but again: He would somehow survive MOST of the time anyway!
So MANY Ricks just made sure to dump their Jerrys in one of the nearby Jerryboree daycare locations (Go off and play with your other Jerries!) and just cautiously check their home base situation to determine WHAT exactly caused Jerry to try and flee the dimension THIS time and maybe fix it.
It was a working theory that Morty's odd ability to avoid detection, the one Sarah's Perk was based on (Not that anyone here knew that), was a variation of JERRY'S ability to somehow survive situations through betrayal. And it WAS an odd thing.
Literally armies of Ricks had investigated HOW Morty worked, and came up with nothing. Somehow reality itself just sort of caused cameras to be aligned slightly wrong or some random fight would shift perfect scanner patterns to slightly miss their target sections. Even guards would need breaks or would feel sick or whatever.
The only time it DIDN'T keep Morty protected was in situations where Rick might be able to determine how it operated... At which point everything showed up as a normal boy that could easily be killed. With no special qualities. It basically made further testing pointless, protecting the OTHER Mortys from further experimentation.
And don't even get her started on the crazy stuff that happens when lots of Mortys are gathered together! The reactions got beyond complicated and hard to trace and evaluate. There was a reason you needed a Morty on policy enforcement duty, no Rick could have the same results if it was THEIR job.
Sarah wasn't able to figure it out either, but her analysis abilities were limited compared to a full Rick. As a part of the decoy family experiment, the original Rick only focused on granting two big skills: Genetics, to ensure cloning would operate at expected tolerance levels, and the robotics engineering levels required to fill in impossible gaps with artificial replacements.
True, it ended up with ceramic and puppet decoy clones being created… But the amount of information NEEDED to make a wood/human clone cyborg? That is Rick level shit right there.
Probably why the Jump incarnated her here, in that clone. Her purchases just found an easy match to insert her logically into this Jump, even if she would have preferred a less horrific start on this leg of the journey.
Anyway, she was trying to overcome her lack of ability. Right NOW Sarah was cheating like hell using Adam's 'Research' ability to control, modify, and safely test all the shit stolen from the Rick lab and her fragmented memories to brute force solutions.
It was at least partially why her daughters could understand and even discuss all this technological stuff, because compared to her ability when it came to genetics or robotics? It was just not as astounding.
But, on the other hand, less mad scientist skill seemed to ALSO mean less madness.
Which was nice.
Anyway, the local Jerry is dead! The new dimension was marked as lost! And Adam's alert marked this particular location as one where the Rick isn't there (Or wasn't willing) to save the others. Ether from dying or from abandoning it all to go elsewhere.
Fuck that, let's see who survived. Hopefully it was soon enough that the whole family made it.
~~~Broken Adventure~~~

Sarah looked at the still corpses left inside the activated shielding of the Smith house.

Some sort of military force, and not one of the more recognizable ones… Still. "Adam?"

Adam was busy. <<One moment… No, hang on! This will be faster.>>

[[Harvest.]]

The entire house vanished, along with a significant underground base and lots of dead soldiers.

He hummed. <<Right, invasion trying to… Huh, not actually related to Earth or Rick at all! Planet seemed to just be in the way, if I'm reading the data in the soldiers body armor correctly. They only bothered to invade because the local Rick somehow prevented the planet from being excavated… Some sort of core extraction wave thing?>>

Yeah, whatever. "Where are the survivors?"

Data showed up. <<Taken for examination. Jerry tried to make a deal, but that ended up with Rick being executed and managing to somehow take Jerry out at the same time out of spite. Some sort of tooth grenade, though it looks like stupendously dangerous material was used. Probably gave him mouth cancer every week or so.>>

Yeah, well, Ricks be like that. "Got the coordinates?"

Some marks were highlighted. <<Thankfully, yes. The house systems were active during the attack. Due to losing two of the prisoners needed for questioning, the others were given much better treatment to ensure survival for transit! Here is the destination, we will hopefully get more data there.>>

These particular creatures were some sort of wooden golem wearing red flannel shirts, suspenders, and… High heels? Well, you do you, wooden lumberjack people.

Mr. McStabberson would however like to have a bit of a chat about where her damn family was right now.

Now that she was off of the MRS ship, she could use 'normal' green portals again to avoid certain questions, and she used one to step through to an artificial planet (Some sort of meat forest war world).

Let's ask some questions!

~~~Broken Adventure~~~
Morty was freaking out! But like, only mentally. This wasn't the first time things got a bit tricky to handle. "Come on sis, just… Just stay calm."
Summer glared at him! "Grandpa's dead because of Dad and Mom is… She hasn't woken up yet."
Focus. "Rick is probably fine, I've seen him die a dozen times before." Technically true, but most were just clever setups and fake death traps to throw off pursuers. Or Ricks from other dimensions causing problems. "He'll come save us, and Mom's just… She just needs a bit of treatment and she'll be fine."
His mom was breathing, therefore a Rick could fix this. Morty could use the portal gun and head to the Citadel, pretend to be doing another chore for his lazy ass grandfather, get her fixed right up! He knew where all the valuable junk was after all, and most Ricks didn't bother to follow established procedures, so it would probably work!
Once they escaped.
And stole a ship.
And got back to Earth.
Where the portal gun was.
No, don't freak out. "And I managed to set off the emergency assistance beacon, just before they took us! Remember?"
Summer weakly smiled, not knowing that Rick had torn that system apart for parts months ago. Not that it mattered, one of the more drunken rants had the old man telling Morty that the button was more a 'stay away, bad situation here' marker than anything.
If it had been working, he wouldn't have bothered to hit it at all… But as he had hoped, the futile potential for rescue was keeping Summer's spirits up AND, more importantly, convinced their captors to keep them alive long enough to find out what that button actually did!
So… Probably torture. Hopefully for only him, since Summer hadn't gone through the shit he had over the years. Better than instant execution like these wooden lumberjacks did to Rick though.
Seriously Dad… Claiming 'Rick' was the cause of all the problems!? Rick was the only one who could have saved them! It was like stabbing your life raft to make a blanket, it just caused MORE problems than it solved!
Not that it mattered, Dad got to experience karma for his acts almost immediately after.
No, focus. "Right, I got a few tools in reserve, but we need to time this right. These log ships are shaped too poorly for atmospheric reentry, so there must be a limb or branch ship they use for transfer of prisoners to their interrogation rooms."
Hopefully. Unless their home planet was a beaver dam or something, and the entire log just slots into it or whatever. No, Focus.
Morty tapped his holdout laser, the one that destroyed his left hand's coordination after it was installed into his limb. "The smaller ship will have less enforcers, and yet most armies like this one ensure that each of the individual units can also travel long distances in an emergency."
Nope, in fact the majority of the time it was the opposite. Carrier ships like this would let the expensive units in transport vessels skip over the expensive shielding and more powerful engines, relying on the fighting crafts and the massive hull to protect the things until battle and travel was done.
Still, there was a CHANCE to escape and commandeer the transport ship (If one would be used), and that was better than their options NOW.
Summer adjusted her jacket over mom. "Plus neither of us can actually move Mom that easily, so at least they will help move her to the smaller vessel first. What can I do to help?"
Not really anything. The only reason they had a chance was this species was made out of wood, they had dropped their guard, and Morty had the ONLY long distance weapon he had seen so far. The lumberjack golems insisted on only using axes, so if they were careful? Maybe.
Still. "Keep track of everyone we see, and make sure I end them all before trying to take over the new craft. If I lose count I might accidentally leave someone behind putting Mom at risk."
Summer gave a weak smile. "Yeah! I can do that, Morty."
Right, that was a plan. Right? Right.
Here's hoping his hidden arm beam doesn't burn all his nerves and tendons before the escape attempt finishes. It was a holdout weapon for a REASON, the hand itself was almost assuredly a lost cause after this.
Still, a plan! Things were getting better already!
~~~Broken Adventure~~~

Sarah was not having ANY of this shit.

"[[Harvest.]]"

As more than a dozen of these golems vanished, even more details unfolded.

The lumberjacks were just minions. Robots. Feeding units for this meat forest.

This living flesh planet covered in flesh trees spawned the lumberjack fighters and ships and so forth to go hunt more meat and discover sexy new breeds of lumber. It was in it for the wood.

A flick of her wrist sent Mr. McStabberson off to pierce a distant 'Log Cabin', one of the many assembly buildings where even more lumberjacks were being constructed. That should slow down the process a bit.

There were no computers to infiltrate, but a bit of experimentation had helped 'Research' learn how to more efficiently [[Harvest]] these low intellect wood creatures at least. To translate chemical signals and wood grain patterns into consumable memories and data.

This stupid monster was almost a knock off version of the Borg, just flesh and puppet oriented instead of focusing on technology. Each of these war worlds were fleshy hunters that searched through space for… Something. Not clear what exactly.

And there was some sort of 'Old Growth' somewhere out in this reality? Not much data there.

In a way, it was lucky Earth lasted THIS long before it got targeted. Sheesh.

An odd sound of creaking trees echoed as another army of lumberjacks began thudding their way towards their eventual doom through the meaty forest.

Good, it would take another four hours until the 'Star Log' got within easy scanning distance of this place. Hopefully one of THESE idiots knew better positioning data so she could skip all this free material donation and actually HELP her family.

If not, she was perfectly happy to continue harvesting this location until they arrived unharmed.

And they BETTER be unharmed.

If their space vessels had any kind of travel stability, she would have actually hijacked a ship or whipped up a small travel something or other and intercepted the stupid thing by now! But it would be faster and safer to just wait for the dumb thing to show up.

That didn't make her FEEL better, but it was more important to save her loved ones than to waste time trying to 'do something' that ended up being pointless.

~~~Broken Adventure~~~
Morty prepared.
Summer was keeping her eyes open while staying close to Mom being carried by one of the few unarmed lumberjacks they had seen so far.
When he deployed his weapon, the slow reaction speed of these creatures should let him burn the escorting guards before the one carrying Mom could retaliate… Probably.
It was the ONLY option with a chance of success though. Otherwise, if he didn't focus on the wooden and armed crowd, one would axe him while his focus was off.
Each step through the halls sounded like some sort of whimsical wooden instrument, which clashed harshly with their bloody and torn clothing. Thankfully the filth wasn't from further injuries, just… Rick and Dad didn't end cleanly.
No, focus.
One shot, and hopefully the wooden ship would be easy enough to redirect destinations so that Summer could get them SOMEWHERE while Morty would pass out from exploding his wrist and forcing his hold out weapon to burn the rest off trying to kill these bastards.
It wasn't the BEST situation, but… Well, it wasn't the best situation.
He shook his head at Summer.
Not yet.
The next doors were closed (Manually, what a crappy spaceship, honestly) and the wooden creatures began sliding into wall recesses like some sort of storage system.
Not yet.
A massive JERK had the wooden vessel shudder (Hopefully a transport ship? Or even better, a combat focused one since they clearly hadn't planned on any prisoners when attacking Earth, that would be damn useful!) and he began charging his beam and gritting his teeth.
This was going to suck. So bad.
Three. Two. One.
Now, they should be far enough away to not just re dock with the massive log shaped carrier. "Hey Summer? Can you make sure Mom is breathing alright? That is an important function of us organic sticks, a function needed to ensure we can properly provide data to the living forest as directed by the living forest."
This STUPID way of talking! But whatever works.
Summer did her best. "Uh… Yeah? I'm going to need you to put Mom… I mean, the long organic stick down to make sure she is functioning as required."
A stupid plan.
Of course, this was a near mornic lump of moving wood, so why WOULDN'T it work? 'Forest Twig confirms, requires organic stick to ensure lengthy organic stick is operating optimily to ensure Living Forest can extract required organic stick functions as mandated by Living Forest."
Whatever, the important thing was Mom now lay flat on the ground and Summer was 'checking' on her, also out of firing range. "Summer, make sure to cover your ears to ensure proper confirmation that long organic stick is fully functioning for future extraction."
Shit.
This was going to hurt.
SO bad.
Summer covered her ears and nodded.
Well. Time to get shit done.
A scream of pain had Morty's left hand explode into gore as his wrist cauterized from the orange beam burning straight through his arm… AND through the nearest lumberjack.
Gritting his teeth, Morty dodged to the center of the room while carefully blasting one specific area of the ship clear, providing a spot to retreat to while the lumberjacks slowly recovered from the change in circumstances and hopefully NOT piercing through this flimsy craft into space itself. "Summer!"
Shit, she couldn't hear over the screaming and his own weak voice.
Well, it didn't matter, his sister couldn't move Mom anyway. Better clear some more space and just… Try not to burn through the walls and lose atmosphere, causing everyone's death. Everyone needing to breathe at least.
While statistically killing everyone should count as a win, it wasn't the optimum endgame Morty was aiming for.
Oh good, his left arm had burned enough that he couldn't feel the pain any more. He had a few more minutes of fire or so until the weapon damaged the limb enough to fall off, hopefully not killing someone important in the process… But at least for now, it hurt less.
Though the fact that his living flesh was transfering enough heat to burn MORE of his body in the process, well… He might not have as much time left to aim as he estimated.
He would adapt.
Dodging a thrown axe (Well, collapsing to the side, but it should totally count!), Morty blinked after another flaming timber warrior fell... And no more came into the room.
Did… Did they do it? Maybe. Focus.
Suddenly his laser flickered and shut off.as SOMETHING important melted. Ah.
Well, uh. Hopefully that was enough, because now they were unarmed. Ha.
Stumbling forward, he tried to lift one of the thrown axes with his remaining hand.
And nearly fell over in the process. "Shit."
Right, uh. The Axes might be made out of metal or something. They were super heavy.
Seeing Summer easily lift the same axe, he blinked.
Or the blood loss might be hurting his ability to get shit done. Whatever, they could work with this. "Mom alright?"
Summer nodded, trying not to look at his still smoking limb. "Yeah, we're both fine… And uh. You? You doing alright?"
Hell no. "Yeah, might be a bit slow though. I am pretty sure the control center of the craft is this way, toward the center of the thing. All these ships are roughly built the same, and that's where the power supply and command structure was located when Rick was scanning the biggest attackers back on Earth."
Back when they thought wiping out the leadership would help the situation. At least, help more than cause a three minute pause in action. "Just… If Mom's safe there, help me get walking?"
Thankfully Summer wasn't going to be annoying about this, although she did accidentally bump one of the cuts Morty hadn't noticed when dodging those thrown weapons. "Right, uh. Let's just go redirect this thing and… And get home and stuff!"
Please don't be a direct wooden golem to ship interface. Please.
Just be some sort of computer, or use buttons or levers or something. Morty could work with that, he could do SOMETHING, half of Rick's shit came without instructions! He was TRAINED to handle shit like this!
Things were blurry.
Summer… Said something? "What?"
No, his hearing was gone entirely now.
A good portion of his vision too.
And uh. Things felt bad. Real bad.
Still, as his mind fell to fog… He just had one, strange question.
Was that Ms. Bellum?
~~~Broken Adventure~~~

Summer ignored the burn on her arm best she could. "You did great Morty, I bet all the girls back home are going to be super impressed…"

Shit, something in the charred fragments of his arm just fell out. Some sort of wire? Fuck. "Just… Stay awake, a little bit longer! You just gotta tell me how to fly this ship and uh… Well, for now, just get away from the other ships. Then you can take a bit of a nap."

Her damaged brother made some sort of hiss and whine noise. It… It didn't sound good. "Hang on, we're almost there."

Maybe? His directions hadn't been clear, and the damage to that room had made the hallways damaged and even more confusing than this odd organically designed mess already was. Nothing was straight lines, the wood just sort of twisted in any which way and the ship seemed to enjoy just letting it do so.

He hadn't said the damage would be this bad. "Hey, Morty? Are… Is this the way I needed to go?"

Silence. He had fallen unconscious. Hopefully, ONLY unconscious. "Just… Alright, I can do this. You just… Just rest up."

Shit. Shit. Shit. NO! Mom AND Morty needed her to stay calm!

Leaning against the warped wooden wall, she groaned. "Right… What should I do? I can… Maybe let Morty rest here?"

She could move faster alone, but something wouldn't let her put down her brother. Honestly, if she could walk while holding Mom she wouldn't have let HER go either, resting in that damaged room of death.

Suddenly she flinched! Footsteps!?

Distantly, a voice was shouting! "Beth! Summer! Morty! Can anyone hear me!?" And a snarl. "Not you, you moronic wooden hatchet jobs! You don't even HAVE names, you are… Oh just die already. [[H̩̞̻a͈̝̦r͓̟v͇̤̥͎͕̘͚e̝̜ș̻͈t̻.]]"

Fuck it. "Hello! We're over here!"

She did NOT know enough to take over this ship, and none of the lumberjacks that had taken them had cared about their names or safety. So this was SOMEONE potentially unrelated to the situation, and that was worth the risk.

The woman's voice audibly perked up! "Summer!? Oh thank everything, I was starting to worry I had invaded the wrong ship! Not that this stupid mess should count as an actual ship, substituting hive psionics for shoddy engineering. Oh, right."

An achingly familiar green portal formed on the nearest wall!

And confusion stepped out. "Ms. Bellum? Why are you dressed up for an anime convention?"

The heavily armored bone-covered neighbor (Who looked surprisingly young and attractive for some reason) snorted and pointed a bone spear at Morty. "Talk later, Morty looks like he took a huge hit."

Her brother somehow floated from her weakened arms, and into another green portal (One that showed up WITHOUT the use of a portal gun, impossibly enough). "Now, where's your mom?"

She wearily waved behind her. "A few halls that way." How long had it been since they ate? Or had anything to drink? Or even slept? "Are we safe now?"

The woman wrapped her up in a quick hug. "Yes, sweetie. Let me get you treated and healed up, and then go get little Beth somewhere safe. We can come back and handle this situation later, they move slowly enough that we will have months to make a plan first."

Wow, Ms. Bellum was way more hard core than she realized! "I'mma take a nap now."

The humming was nice too.

Arc 3: Beth-ed Friends: Auto Erotic Assimilation.
Sarah sent Summer to join Morty in the medical pods, absently setting them up to get the upgrades as well as the medical treatment. Her Mortys would probably all enjoy having a recovered body AND some added durability and so forth.

Right now, she was following the blood trail and burned arm ash fragments leading back to the combat scene.

And… "Oh sweetie."

Beth was… Well, it was a good thing Sarah had such amazing medical equipment.

Right, into a medical pod, let the surgical limbs remove the damaged tissue and the Tonics and serums fix her right up. And make sure she can mentally connect to the Beth Hive and the much less intense Smith Hive so that her mind can fully recover.

This had been INFURIATING. All of it.

First, memory extraction. Adam was going to be researching that shit while they were in this Jump, not being able to quickly get dire information was NOT acceptable.

Sure, she wasn't going to bother going the full master route, or the ability to control or manipulate others… Not her cup of tea.

But someone without electronics being nearly untrackable!? No. Fuck all that.

Her hand twitched, Mr. McStabberson pierced another slow moving lumberjack.

Right. She was a bit too angry to find solutions that don't involve unintended consequences. "Adam?"

Her Boss hummed. <<First of all, we are NOT letting that mess back where MRS is harvesting to breach other dimensions.>>

Yeah, fair enough. That stuff mutated three or four times already while trying to 'fix' it, no one wanted a multi-dimensional mutating plague to kick off. "Of course not."

It had been tempting though.

Maybe… Some sort of sabotage?

Adam pulled up some data. <<We also want to avoid trying to improve these creatures to make memories easier to extract. No reason to ever help the enemy.>>

She waved it off. "No, no, while making them better able to sense stuff and remember it might be the fast and dirty Rick solution I want something safer." A quick mock up was easy to do.

A small prototype orb. "We can make a factory orb that constructs these. Each one has passive sensors, power, and tracking equipment… It should be easy enough to modify the Flesh World Log Cabin Crafters to include one in future lumberjacks."

A few modifications. "Just, make sure it has almost no space inside it… It only needs to last a year or so at most, and shielding it should be easy enough…"

Adam chuckled. <<If you want it to not be detected, take out the explosive charge.>>

Damn it. "Fine." Of COURSE he would catch that. Still, with proper data tracking it would be much easier to map out this invasive species.

...No.

There were infinite fights that all were very important.

Triage. Do what she can, the most efficient way possible.

Hopefully without being FURTHER tempted into releasing lots of reality destroying weaponry.

Right, THAT was who she was. Sarah would do what she thought was moral WITHOUT letting her status as a pseudo-Rick to make her do something she would regret.

Feeling less blind rage, she stood up. "Adam, now that we mapped the planet… Modify all the local cabin constructors to include our spy orbs, and begin [[Harvesting]] any non-compromised lumberjacks. And go ahead and take all the stupid ships nearby, they may be built stupid but at least it will slow down the conquest a bit so I can get stuff done."

Right, see if there is a local version of her old Resistance Team, like the one Space Beth eventually joined. Maybe even one of her joined here? If she existed?

Possible, but unlikely. The number of Space Beths was a drastically smaller infinity than the infinite number of her other family members.

Still. "Let's go to a couple of Galactic Federation occupied planets, and hack some useful data."

And if the Resistance DIDN'T exist here, she could forward the tracking data anonymously if nothing else. Those morons might be an oppressive and deadly military group, but at least they left the victims alive to hopefully rebel at some point and didn't slaughter planets to more easily get wood, so to speak.

Adam made a list. <<The following worlds still exist, but several have been 'chopped', as it were."

Right, let's find out exactly what's going on. "Can you keep [[Harvesting]] lumberjacks and modify construction cabins while I travel?"

A dozen blue portals faded into AND out of view. Because of COURSE Adam somehow learned how to make micro portals that were near invisible by now, why not. <<Now that I have targeting data? Oh yeah. And when they interact with other Flesh Worlds, I will get them too. Eventually we will have a spy network that is literally a network of spies.>>

Good. "Let's get started, I want to work off some anger before heading back home."

She stepped into a green local portal as the entire 'shuttle' was [[Harvested]] on her way out.

~~~Broken Adventure~~~
Beth grinned as her space traveling sister blinked at her scar free body. And frowned. "You got rid of ALL my equipment!"
Heh. "Yep!"
Her eyes blazed as she pulled Beth into the air! "Do you have any CLUE how hard some of that stuff was to steal and manufacture off market!? Dad might crank this stuff out like cheap candy, but those of us who actually LIVE in reality instead of flexing it into the mat have to buy parts, test configurations, and ensure they can survive surgery to USE the stupid things!"
She gave a nod, ignoring the situation. "Yeah, but I had to get rid of it."
Space Beth visibly grit her teeth and tried to calm down. "Why."
Beth gently gripped the arm… And easily twirled her body until she was upside down smirking at her traveling sister. And just held it. Motionless.
Her confused other paused. "What!?"
Beth hummed. "Enhanced muscles, bones, skin, and mind. Lots of other stuff too, not to mention the command node that hasn't been initialized for you yet… But we HAD to remove the equipment because your new body is so much more powerful that flexing would have damaged the old junk you had inside you."
Or failed to escape her own skin to deploy, or been blocked from standard communication due to the passive sensor scattering, and so on and so forth.
When her sister let go, she easily flicked back to an easy stance. "Don't get me wrong, Dad makes good stuff no matter what compared to normal super geniuses… But it was designed for a baseline Beth. Not us now. And honestly, from the scans? You were already slowly getting enhanced from your various adventures in space ANYWAY."
The surprised woman glanced at the pile of extracted equipment. "...Really?"
Beth pulled up logs. "You fought and survived in battlefields with some really insane energy fields and materials. Surviving them required you to get some crazy treatments and some questionable implants… Yeah, there was a reason you were likely having equipment issues if this data is accurate."
She blinked. "Huh… I just thought it was the lower quality material I was collecting due to being on the run."
Mrs. Ship broke in. "Medical bay activated, Pods 1 and 2 in use."
They paused. ""What?""
The ship sent information. "Sarah apparently managed to rescue… Pod 3 now in use. Sorry. Sarah managed to save the endangered Beth and the children, but they will need time for recovery."
She tried not to roll her eyes. Of course Dad saved them. Still. "So… We are going to have new hive mind buddies?"
Space Beth frowned. "Yeah, how does that work?"
Mrs. Ship hummed. "The lower priority hive minds like the general Smith Hive act like memory and/or skill enhancers, while the higher priority individual hive minds will let you blend with the others to whatever level you are comfortable with. Full disconnect, if you hate the experience, full connection, if you don't want to manually control your body anymore and wish to join a group, and anywhere in the middle."
Beth frowned… "I think Dad once dated a hive mind before? But he was really drunk when he mentioned it."
Space her snorted. "Thank goodness for that, no one should have to think of parent sexy times. No thank YOU!" And paused. "That said, well… Will I actually have that option too? Or will I have my own 'Space Beth' hive mind?"
Mrs. Ship sent data. "Every person gets an individual hive mind, but can choose to join other groups at selectable connection percentages. Though Sarah DID say to try and avoid connecting to someone drastically different from yourself or it can cause a LOT of confusion, even if she built a lot of mental safety protections to ensure no one loses their identity or psionically fractures."
Beth blinked. "Oh? Let me check." Not like her space self could do so, not until her command node initialized.
Hmm. "Smith hive mind, 25%... Beth hive mind, 33%... And Bethany_Smith_cyjat01dnaydat01 at 100%? Huh." And it looked like Space Beth was marked as Bethany_Smith_cyjat01dnaydat04, which was… neat?
Though that did explain why she somehow just KNEW that the ship was fine and her space sister was freaking out pretty badly inside. So uh… The things were doing something? Hmm.
Well, no reason NOT to randomly mess with mental enhancements. "Right, let's just… Woah!"
Shifting the Smith hive mind to 50% had her somehow better understand her current family. An innate intuition about where they were and what they needed and wanted and feared… But none of it was something able to put into words. Not a blending of minds necessarily, more like that spatial mapping ability that let you KNOW where your cup was when you blindly reached for it.
What if she shifted it to 75%?
{{I̴bưh ͘d̵r̕a͟ ͞c̡r̕ưn҉a, ̨E l̢yh caa ̶dr̨a ̧luhha̷l̕de̛uh̷ pad͠faaḩ ̸df̶u͞ myhtc.͟..̷ ͘Dr͟yd͘ ́e͜h͏ d͜ra t̨yo,͝ fy̡ć ͏s̨u҉na ̛ta̸ve͞h̨at̡ pi̢d ͠hu͏f r͝yc̶ t̵ec҉yb̸ba̷yn̴a͟t͜ aq͏l̨a̵bd҉ ̀vun d҉ra ̸d̵eho t͞uḑc ͠uv m͝ek̷rd ҉ḑryd̨ n̕ay͜cc̕in̴a̛c ̷sa ͝d̷r̷a͢ lųh̕h͘aldeuh͝ ̕e̡c cd́e͝m͟m d̷r̨a̵na̵.͢}}
Yikes! Drop that back down to 25% NOW!
Beth winced. "Right, uh… If you decide to change your hive mind settings, do it SLOWLY. And even MORE slowly if you go above 50%. Just… Trust me on that."
Her space sister seemed MUCH more hesitant now. "You… You alright Sis?"
She waved it off. "Yeah, but for some reason I want to watch 'Saved by the Bell' with blue people."
Focus. "Right, so I clearly still think I am me, at least at this level of connection. So… You should be fine?"
Her sister gave her the driest look. "Oh wow. How convincing."
Oh come on! "It's Dad's work, I can't guarantee it won't do ANYTHING odd! Even if Sarah's been much more reliable when it comes to her designs, honestly. Or at least, more understandable."
Suddenly the other woman began blinking. "AHHhhhh? Huh."
Finally! "Is it initializing?"
Dozens of holographic windows began popping up as she was ignored. "Guess so. Right, I'm going to go check on the kids and… Probably see what they are watching." The odd connection HAD made the show seem interesting after all.
~~~Broken Adventure~~~

Suddenly during a commercial break, Morty got a confirmation box.

And like the impulsive kid he mostly was, clicked 'yes' so it would go away.

Which… Might not have been the best decision.

Morty was suddenly M͉̜͍̣̝̫̦O͚̠͚͔͈͇R̳̫̻E̻!

He nearly fell off the couch as he floated in the tube!

=Morty: Woah.=

It wasn't like a box with all thoughts dropped into a sloppy mess, but more an impossible shared communal dorm room with their own minds off to the side.

And the fascination was REAL.

Memories were requested and questions answered and thoughts laughed at and opinions argued over and yeah she really DID look like Ms. Bellum but damn that body I know right but there was no judgement, no scorn.

He fully understood himself on an unusual level, even as somehow a part of him relaxed.

It… was sort of fluid. Not actually two mental people having a talk, but more a flow of ideas from one to the other to a mix to the individuals and so on and so forth.

They shouldn't have put the Morty Hive to 100%, though it was comforting that, despite being one Morty, they were also Morty_Smith_cyjat02dnaydat01 and Morty_Smith_cyjat01dnaydat03. That they could at any point pull back from this joining to better focus on other topics, or not, or whatever.

Dropping it down to 95% however DID let the both of them more easily make decisions without the thought process of the other self convincing them both of the same outcomes… so one sent back up to 100% in his tube as he enjoyed the meld and one relaxed down at the high but still more comfortable 80% level.

And he got back up from the floor, waving off Summer and Mom. "I'm fine, I'm fine."

Mom was still checking her logs. "I know you didn't get hurt, but…" She wrapped him up in a hug. "What happened?"

Aw jeez. "Uh… I might have tried out the hive mind function? A bit?"

Her focus narrowed. "Did you hurt yourself?"

Eep! He lowered down to 85% and 60% respectively. "No! No, it was uh. Just a bit overwhelming?"

Summer blinked. "I'm like, all the confused right now… But these commercials about pants selling human suits aren't that interesting anyway, so spill!"

Beth paused. "More importantly, that means the hurt Morty woke up ALONE!?" She looked away! "Beth!"

The distinct voice of… Space Beth!? Oh, thank goodness she was alright too! It came from a ways away though. "On it Sis! I'll make sure he's alright, stay with the other kids for now!"

Summer blinked. "Wait, did super cool rebel space mom show up!? Why didn't I know!?"

Morty was distracted telling Morty about how Mom got cloned so she could stay with the family AND explore the unknown and how she came back and the awesome equipment and yeah she really worked out but Jessica was still hotter and lumberjacks!? "The other family members escaped alien crossdressing wooden lumberjacks thanks to Sarah, and their Rick didn't do some of the more bizarre experimentations on you or Mom like he did us so you two are still unconscious."

Wait, that last part was out loud. Aw jeez! "Which doesn't matter because Dad betrayed us and got that Rick killed but he also died in the… Uh." No, none of that was fixing this situation. "I mean, did I tell you all about the optional hive mind features of our command nodes?"

Nope, neither his sister OR his mom seemed distracted.

Still, Morty was certainly persistent against impossible odds! "There… Uh. Check the menu under…" Pull yourself together! "Who wants some couch wine!?"

Mom blinked… And paused. "You know, I was going to give a whole rant about responsibility and so on and so forth, but I just want to get hammered right now and Dad made it so none of us will have hangovers or develop addictions…"

She pulled out one of those awesome super flasks. "Still, no alcohol for you guys officially… But I'm also not going to confiscate any theoretical wine bottles that may or may not be in the third hidden couch cushion compartment."

Mom glared at him, the concern bright in her eyes. "One glass each. Only. Alright?"

Uh. Not the result of throwing himself on that verbal landmine he expected… But distraction completed! Victory! "Thanks Mom."

Summer also seemed touched. "Yeah, that's surprisingly cool, Mom."

His healthier looking mother stood and headed off to probably check on himself in the medical healing pod. "Meanwhile, I have another son to go ask a few questions about certain experiments."

Crap! It didn't work! We tried, it was a long shot. And that Rick was an ass anyway. Yeah, but we'll still miss him, won't we? Maybe. Your Rick is super hot though. Oh yeah, Sarah's the best! You remember that tall woman from Boob World, right? Sarah's way hotter than that! No, we got distracted by these stupid robotic ferrets, it was a whole big mess. I didn't get to go, and Rick promised. What!? You haven't been to Boob World!?

Their hive mind bustled as they tried to ignore the aggravated moms heading their way. Oh. Hi, woman who is apparently 'Space Beth'! Dang she's fit. I know right!?

At least he had someone to share memories with now. They both turned the connection up a few dozen percent.

Meanwhile Summer was so TOTALLY not on her first glass of wine now. "Man, Grandpa's non-hooch flask makes this stuff seem like trash, I really need to get one of the unrestricted ones…"

Didn't stop her from refilling her 'one serving'. Summer has a harder time adapting to our situations than we do. Yeah, and Mom has some crazy moments like Rick did sometimes. I kept her safe. I know, and thanks. Sarah can fix me up?

Morty tried not to snort. Haven't checked your enhancement list yet?

His other self was stunned. What IS this stuff!? Holy crap! Oh that is nothing, go over to my subdirectory and look up my design schematics. I just gave you access.

Huh, this would really help him get his work polished before trying to build something. Also, as a hormonal teenager, it was AWESOME having a secure place to hide and share pornographic memories. I know, right? Yeah, honestly the super science and powers comes second to that.

~~~Broken Adventure~~~
Adam sighed. <<No space Beth in this dimension. But from this stolen data, I'm pretty sure the 'Old Growth' is a local situation, not a universal constant that just happens to fail everywhere else.>>
Sarah glared at the hacked systems, this was the third planet they had infiltrated.
Well, used false credentials to walk in and get what they wanted, but it sounded cooler to use spy terms. "And you are SURE a Rick didn't cause this mess? Because it feels like we would have a hand in it somewhere."
Strangely enough, no. <<Came from this quadrant, and it's marked as one of the mostly native quarks of this dimension.>>
Not that it was safe to just TRUST data from a Rick, the laziness was real, but all the checks worked out. It was just so unlikely that Rick WASN'T involved that had them checking so many alternate sources.
Hmm. <<Let's avoid the 'Old Growth' for now, get some good work done and then leave.>>
Sarah sighed. "Fine. We own Human Resources?"
Oh yeah. <<Ready and waiting!>>
She checked the list again. "Right, do the thing with the stuff in the places!"
He snorted. Very dramatic. <<Will do!>>
Some false evidence of THIS jerk trying to set up THAT jerk, ensure these competent (But not sufficiently corrupt people) managed to get unexpected promotions and pay raises, make it look like a failed ploy by these jerks, start shifting the unlisted and illegal accounts into humanity efforts and research fields…
It was going to take a while. <<Still want to pass them data to help resist?>> Especially since this version of the Galactic Federation had managed to destroy most of the more organized cells of the Resistance.
She sighed. "Yeah. They are still jerks, but THIS bunch of morons didn't eradicate Earth like ours did. And they are still better than letting the 'Old Growth' mulchify society."
Hmph. Maybe. <<Fine.>>
In frustration Adam [[Harvested]] another log 'spaceship', if this trash could be called that.
This wasn't even USEFUL stuff to collect, it was just an efficient way to get shit done!
It was mostly wood, just specially treated and using the hive network of the 'Old Growth' to force reality to make it stay together! Not even high quality or exotic lumber either, just… ARGH!
Why did it work? Because they believed it would. Why did it hold together? Because they believed it would. Why were they actually winning against anyone else? Because they believe in wood. Heh.
Stupid dimension. <<It's not even fun growth designs, it honestly seems random! And where are the tree leaves!?>>
The stupid things didn't actually include roots, or photosynthesis! Because this powerful psionic network got shit done, but that didn't make this thing SMART. Just powerful! Fuck everything.
Sarah portalled to the next world, using Adam's sensors to not arrive in a noticeable location and to avoid bumping into anyone. "At the turnover rate the conflicts have, at least it is easy to assign the more moronic people into danger and keep the smarter one's alive? That should let the local Galactic Federation stabilize the situation. Probably."
Adam snorted. There was a REASON an idiotic network of flesh balls were winning a space war against all of this dimension despite only using melee weapons. <<The smartest people we are shoving into power are just barely competent enough to stall this mess. Maybe.>>
And even THAT might be too optimistic.
Seriously, the threat was real AND dire, but it was also freaking SLOW! Sure the ships held together with faith and bullshit, but that didn't make any of these vehicles remotely FAST. Part of the reason Adam knew Rick wasn't involved was because of how LONG the 'Old Growth' had been around.
It certainly earned the 'old' part of the title.
It was like Russia slowly losing to the world's most deadly and nearly indestructible snail invader ever. So slow that some people could (AND DID) go around the invading fleets and recolonize BEHIND the attacking forces!
How do you LOSE to something like this!? How fucking drunk was the local RICK to lose to this!?
Sarah had gotten here LATE, and yet spent hours investigating the Flesh World, killing lumberjacks, wandering around, waiting… All for the ship with her family in it to take HOURS to show up!
And they were barely away from Earth! Her OLD ship could have made the trip in minutes, and that was a clone decoy family piece-of-shit special!
She had only kept waiting out of sheer disbelief that the incoming vessel wasn't about to arrive, and because the stupid vessel was SO BADLY MADE that she had to wait for it to stop or it could have fallen apart when she portalled on board!
Sarah growled. "Stop ranting, I can feel it in the back of my skull."
But the FUCKING IDIOCY! <<Look at these statistics! Look at it! LOOK AT IT!>>
She had the audacity to blink… And actually chuckle. "Yeah, it's pretty bad."
Adam snarled! <<'Pretty bad' is forgetting to ensure your metal doesn't warp through temperature change, 'pretty bad' is having conversion issues when working internationally or with designers from other realities!>>
This fucking tech! <<THIS SHIT is a STAIN on science. On reality itself! I'm not sure I or even a fully zoned out and drugged Rick could design something this stupid on PURPOSE!>>
She grinned. "Oh? Is that a challenge?"
Adam froze.
Oh no. <<Sarah.>>
Her smile grew wider. "Did I mention that one of the Ricks made an Ionic Defibulizer? A machine that only works if it fails to operate according to the plans, designs, AND expectations?"
Don't you do this, Sarah. <<I WILL find death metal polka music and play it non stop for a week.>>
She paused… "Fine. Truce?"
Yeah, whatever. <<Truce.>>
Why did these stupid lumberjacks wear clothing anyway? They had no body parts to hide! Hell, why fingers? None of their so-called 'technology' had interfaces. They just believed the stupid things would go where required and reality forced it to happen.
Fuck this dimension, it sucked.
Sarah sighed. "Would you feel better if we go steal some really valuable junk from one of the leaders we are toppling?"
Grumble. <<Yeah.>>
Sarah nodded. "Then let's go steal some really valuable crap from one of the jerks in charge. Maybe that talking waffle dude who had that expensive butter kink, I think he had some hidden syrup reserves of the GOOD stuff."
...That did sound fun. <<Alright.>>
This dimension still sucked though.
Arc 3: SEAL Team Rick!
Sarah finished isolating the hidden vault. "Right, connect me."
Adam opened a view portal back to MRS communications for her. "Hello the house! Anyone there?"
A grumpy voice came through before the people showed up. "See Sis? I told you Dad would be fine, we didn't have to come wait here."
Oh, Space Beth apparently decided to come over! Hopefully she got the upgrades. "My little ones! I've got some good news! But first..." Just in case. "Are the ones I saved doing alright? No problems?"
Earth Beth showed up, some concern in her eyes. "Yeah, they are good. My new sister is still recovering but her Morty helped let us know what was going on roughly. And her Summer should wake up in an hour or so… And you? Are you alright over there Dad?"
Pshaw. "I'm fine, I'm fine. A lot of the problems on THIS side are due to inefficient leadership, not because of how dangerous the place is. Not to me or us anyway, assuming everyone got the power ups and enhancements?"
Space Beth rolled her eyes. "Yes, Dad. And thankfully both Mortys are happy to help us design some replacement tools and equipment too, since my old stuff got removed by SOMEONE."
Earth Beth snorted. "You love being able to do a standing back flip, it was WORTH removing that back alley surgery junk."
Daww, her girls were the best girls. "Right, well aside from hacking the Galactic Federation and ensuring these morons have a fighting chance against these wooden morons, I called with goodies!" <Adam?>
He opened another view portal. <<Here ya go!>>
Sarah grinned at the confused Beth and her stunned sister. "Behold! The most valuable and nearly impossible to purchase, trade, or sell syrup known to the local dimension!"
Her prepared speech was interrupted HARD by Space Beth. "Holy CRAP, is that Golden Delicious WaFull Syrup!? A whole GLASS full?"
The Jumper blinked. "Yes? But sweetie, I was about to do a whole speech thing…"
Earth Beth was at least interested. "It does LOOK delicious, Dad."
Space Beth was holding in screams. "And you are leaving it EXPOSED to AIR!? It needs to be consumed as fast as possible after leaving the stabilizing vacuum! WHY would you fill an entire GLASS of Golden Delicious WaFull Syrup!?"
Her sister paused. "Is it dangerous or something if left out of its container?"
The other one wasn't even phased. "No, the quality degrades. Still, even after it leaves proper storage and loses most of its value, an ounce of this syrup is worth more than gold! That glass right there is like $16,000 or something, even if it was worth WAY more before she just dumped it into a stupid GLASS!"
Sarah blinked. "Huh. I just knew it was something that a talking Waffle asshole really wanted protected and decided to steal it because he was a jerk."
Space Beth froze and then pulled up holograms. Oh good! Her command node clearly had no problems. "You… You don't mean King Iron WaFull of Belgium, do you?"
Uh. "Maybe?"
Earth Beth sighed. "Enough of that politics stuff. Thanks for offering us some sort of expensive syrup Dad, I'm sure the kids would love to try it."
Sarah sipped from the glass, ignoring Space Beth's horrified shriek. "This? No, this is just so I could try some before bringing the rest over."
The former cyborg daughter pushed her sister out of the screen. "Did you just DRINK that UNDILUTED!? One drop can convert an entire fifty gallon drum of purified water into some of the most tasty toppings known to the galaxy!"
Mmm. "It is pretty good."
Beth (not so gently) pushed her freaking out sister aside. "Right, just… You're about to come home right?"
The offscreen sister was whispering harshly. "I'm not even surprised Dad can somehow drink that stuff without blanking out in hypersensitive pleasure like most species, not after what they used to drink, but make sure he doesn't give that stuff to our kids! It NEEDS to be diluted!"
Earth Beth gave her a deadpan look. "I have been informed to tell you that this stuff will be restricted from the family unless proper deployment regulations are followed."
Sarah grinned at the snarkiness. "No problem, our family would be fine but others without our new defenses might go into a coma from this amount. Although based on Space Sweetie's reaction, I probably shouldn't show you where I got this glass from."
A super serious space soldier sweetie suddenly showed shockingly on screen. "Dad."
The female father couldn't help the smirk. "Now, now! Don't get too excited dear!"
Ha! That glare was adorable! "Dad. Please."
Oh, alright. "Fine." A bit of focus and a portal orb opened a view portal angled to one side, showing the warehouse.
Earth Beth leaned over, ignoring her frozen and shocked Sister. "That is a lot of barrels."
Her sister said nothing, still staring.
Sarah hummed. "Yeah, but the puncheon's were the smallest containers that I could open to sample this stuff. Each of those is about 140 gallons or so of this stuff."
Space Beth still wasn't moving, but her sister made appreciative noises. "That IS a lot of this super syrup, I can see how it would be shocking."
Hmm. "No, I'm pretty sure your sister is freaking out because of the things behind those barrels."
A pause. "Why is she bothered by the wall?"
Sarah grinned. "Because the wall is one of the foudres, each one holding around 30,000 litres or so."
Space Beth wheezed. "One of?"
Another view portal. "Oh yes. This is a very large storage vault."
Her more stoic sister suddenly joined her hyperventilating half. "How many ARE there!?"
Yeah, fair enough. "Didn't really check, the point is I thought it would be fun to have one of you come over and help me index it all and steal it away!"
Ideally, the whole family… But someone had to keep an eye on the rest of the family and those being healed. Sure, MRS could do it all on her own, or Adam, or Sarah herself… Still.
It felt safer having someone nearby.
Plus, this would be a family bonding activity!
Space Beth snapped out of it. "ME! Me. I'm going. You stay here, call me if something comes up, but I am TOTALLY going to go help rob that asshole King WaFull! That guy's people produce only two things: Syrup and oppression. Hell, we could trade drops of that stuff for all KINDS of intel, equipment, deals…"
Sure, whatever. There would be enough left over for pancakes, and if push came to shove Adam had scanned this stuff already. The psionic signature made it REALLY expensive to duplicate, but with the Warehouse it was more than doable.
Based on Sarah's more galactically focused daughter's reactions though, bringing the kids in on this was a great idea! "Just push the blue…"
And Space Beth was there! Hug! "Sweetie!"
...Ah, she blue screened again at seeing this treasure hoard in person.
Meh, they had time. This whole area would need excavating for outsiders to even get close enough to detect how sabotaged most of this location had become after a bit of prep work. It would be safe for her to visit and help out.
Little Beth took a shaky breath. "This might be the royal strategic reserves… I don't think this stuff is even SOLD to anyone. Just the fact it exists stabilizes some economies."
Sarah grinned, slapping her girl on the shoulder. "Maybe. Now, let's get started! I'm assuming the other twenty vaults also have expensive things in them, I just haven't bothered to look just yet."
Adam knew, just in case it was dangerous, but he was letting it be a surprise for her like a cool Boss.
Space Beth blinked. "Wait, how many vaults!?"
So much work to do! Woo!
~~~Broken Adventure~~~

The Beth left in charge of [[Home]] sighed as she left her enthusiastic sister to go rob a Galactic Federation blind. Not that it bothered her, not after the shit that happened HERE on Earth.

She walked off to her living room, the almost normal decoy house feeling more stabilizing than the super advanced internal structures that had nearly any feature imaginable. "How's everyone?"

Mrs. Ship hummed. "Both Mortys are off working on optional body enhancements so that future family members can easily request them from the medical pods, and seem to be having fun. Summer is setting up some snacks and a few drinks for when her new sister comes out of recovery. Our sister in healing pod 3 is nearly physically recovered, after which the mental treatments will begin."

Right, the hive mind options.

Turns out? Increasing the hive connection percentage was FAR easier and less confusing when you did so closer to your base hive cluster. So going to 80% Beth was trivial and simple, going to 30% Smith was a bit odd, and uh… She wasn't going to try messing with less directly connected hive minds again.

A 5% Morty hive mind was awkward for everyone and brought back traumatizing memories of her childhood. Ironically, NOT the memories of actual trauma, but the more basic issues of being young and not in charge and frustrated and all that.

The more crazy stuff she remembered being involved with (and the crazy stuff she did) worked pretty well with the Morty hive mind collective, surprisingly enough. Or not, Morty had an astounding outlook due to how strange his world was.

Still, it did feel pretty good having a mental connection to her other selves, even the ship herself to a lesser degree. Mrs. Ship wasn't actually a Beth, but enjoyed having a low level hive mind connection to the group as she identified herself as Sarah's daughter, a powerful woman, and a motherly figure to those who were her crew and passengers.

Albeit, the ship DID consider herself a sibling with 'sufficient hull integrity' and 'adequate close range defensive structures' compared to her less enhanced 'sisters'. Their [[Home]] also had weapon grade levels of sass and spunk, but that just helped her fit into the family really.

Hitting the couch she flipped to something on TV. Jesus Christ: Vampire Hunter? Meh, fine. Whatever. "How goes disabling the death energy stuff for the planet?"

The ship sent data. "Pretty sure it won't transmit via carriers now, but it keeps mutating. Eventually we are pretty sure it will destabilize into just empowered molten sludge, no longer directed towards specific tasks. Still dangerous as hell, but much more valuable and not a risk for dimensional travel."

Yeah, she had seen the statistics. This slurry of her friends, history, and army of suicidal sacrifices had basically become something so deadly (And valuable) that every bit harvested was beyond useful to their new ride.

If only it hadn't come at such a cost.

No, focus. Beth would ensure her kids wouldn't end up in a similar situation again.

Still, being able to mentally turn up her Beth hive mind connection did help her handle these emotions more easily. Sometimes, all one needed was to know that someone else understood how you felt.

She blinked. "Wait, how many people are going to come out of that van!?"

~~~Broken Adventure~~~
Space Beth couldn't help but laugh as another massive reinforced structure vanished! "This is SO much easier than past raids."
It should be. Sarah pointed at the next foudres.
"[[Collect.]]"
And it was gone even as Beth went off to [[Collect]] her next target.
The new command was a custom thing Adam and MRS set up, a targeting and portal system so that Mrs. Ship can detect, 'grab', and 'catch' loot without needing Sarah or Adam involved.
It was not quite a verbal command, you needed a psionic field that matched record and an approved command node to use these special 'orders', but now her daughter could [[Collect]] loot, send hurt people to [[Medical]], or [[Get]] equipment or tools while in the field.
Anything else could be requested, but it was up to MRS to approve them or not.
And yes, Sarah could [[Harvest]] the entire place… But that wasn't the point, was it?
She grinned at her near bouncing kid. "So, any guesses about what the other vaults have?"
Space Beth pointed again, [[Collecting]] another container. "Well, King WaFull tried to focus on condiments and seasoning procurement, that and control… A lot of his more vicious deals were used to conquer and confiscate related resources. It could be anything though!"
Huh. "Anything?"
She nodded. "I'm pretty sure this ISN'T the strategic reserves, because I think this is Golden Delicious WaFull Royal Syrup. The stuff only ever used by the direct line of the royal family, not even marrying into the line lets you taste this stuff."
She threw up some charts with HUGE numbers. "There IS no estimated value for this. They can't even admit that it is missing when we take it, it is that important to them! So if these other vaults have items of similar value… Or even better, MORE of this syrup!? Could you just imagine!?"
...Was it THAT good?
Sarah's grin fell a few hours later though with an alert. Crud. "Right, can you handle this dear? I'm sorry, but I have to head out real quick." <Adam?>
He was serious. <<Already getting scans.>>
Space Beth quickly became serious, unfortunately. "Problem?"
Sigh. "Not locally. Another blacklist alert." It had only been like what, six to eight hours? Was that too soon? Common? A long break? How often were dimensions blacklisted? "I'll try to be quick."
Her daughter bit her lip. "Well, go save the day of course… But be safe, right? And I can handle this job no problem, I've seen how secured the vaults are after you trapped them so badly."
Adam gave coordinates, and Sarah stole a quick hug. "Remember, say or think really hard [[Return]] and you will be safe at home if something crazy happens." Shit, no time.
Turn, green portal (Since she wasn't going to her secured [[Home]] dimension right now), and let's do this!
~~~Broken Adventure~~~

Summer flinched as the walls started to freeze. "Shit. Mom, Grandpa, where ARE you!?"

She'd even put up with Morty right now, because he was CERTAINLY alive somewhere and hopefully with Mom and Grandpa trying to come here and save her. Also, he would be warm, and maybe have some more burnable stuff to keep this fire going.

This was the most secured room in the house, a 'panic' room Mom had insisted on Grandpa building after that zombie breakout happened. There had been some sort of plan to fix the problem by killing the hoards with super chilled air waves.

Considering how this heated and too small room, so heavily defended and secure, was frosting over even now? It seemed like the plan worked.

Just… A bit too well.

It was so quiet out there. WAY too quiet.

As her body began to numb, a portal? It sounded like one.

And was that? "Mrs. Be…"

Everything went dark.

~~~Broken Adventure~~~
Sarah sent Summer off to a medical pod. "Adam, the others?"
The blue flames kept her body safe even if her body enhancements could have ignored the environment anyway by this point. <<No, this stuff was designed to not just freeze but destroy all related cells. That's why buildings and stuff are breaking down outside, we lost the people a while ago before the alert even came out.>>
Damn it. At least it was easy to find Summer since it was the only structure with a heat signature in range of Rick's house. Though at these temperatures, merely being at zero degrees would be pretty warm.
Still. "Anyone off world?"
Just because the local Rick and Jerry were out of this picture, didn't mean that someone couldn't have been off world, right?
Adam sighed. <<No Space Beth here, and off site logs show that Rick, Morty, and Beth were involved with the local government and trying to solve a global issue with reanimated corpses.>>
Her eyes examined the collapsing buildings around her even as the air grew dry, all moisture locked away due to temperature. "Well, not sure about 'fixed' but the problem certainly won't happen again." Shit.
And, of course, another alert. Thankfully a less urgent blacklisting, but still an issue. "Tell the girls I'm going to try and take care of these a bit preemptively, and I'll be back soon."
Adam was already filtering the blacklist to show dimensions with a missing or dead local Rick, missing or dead Jerry Smith, and remaining family members. The ones that are downward spiraling, but not actually beyond hope… But certainly beyond the level an average Rick would bother trying to fix. <<I'll try and make sure none of these hit crisis points before we get there or at the same time, but it might be hit or go. And I sent a more detailed note off, the girls will know.>>
Right! "Let's speedrun this bitch a little, give me all the ones where our family is in treatment or a coma. I'll leave a communication method behind, get them healed up at home, and knock out as many easy wins as we can before something more dire pops up."
She can do this! And while some abilities and materials didn't work right when left exposed to the Jump, Sarah herself certainly could use magic and the rest without problem. "Make sure the ship has medical pods ready."
Sprinting stance! Scanned Data! "Three! Two! One!"
A bone armored flaming skeleton dove through the green portal.
The frozen world continued to decay after she left.
~~~Broken Adventure~~~

Summer grumbled. "What IS that annoying noise!?"

Mrs. Ship responded… Or tried to, at least. "Sarah is… Pod 15-18 now in use. Pod 19 now in use. Pod 20-21 now in use… Your Grandpa... Pod 22-25 now in use. Pod 26 now in use. Pod 27-28 now in use. Ask Beth."

Uh. Alright?

=Entering Subroom: cyjat01=
=Summer: Hey Mom?=
=Summer: Huh. What was that?=
=Beth: Sorry, really busy honey.=
=Beth: Hey, I didn't say that!=
=Beth: Wait, I can talk to you when you are on a different world in another dimension!?=
=Beth: Wow. That's actually impressive. No lag either… Missions would be so much easier.=
=Adam: Dang it, even in smaller groups this is tricky. Sarah's too busy to handle this right now, but I'll whip something up.=
=Beth_Earth: I KNOW she's busy, who do you think is 'catching' all the people on THIS end!?=
=Beth_Space: Huh?=
=Morty_hive: Here, Moms. {Recent_Sitrep.data}=
=Beth_Space: Oh. Oh dear.=
=Morty: Huh, if we sync too much our names merge. Neat!=

Holy crap! Well, shit. No wonder the ringing was happening, it was an alert that someone was put into a medical pod. Damn.

Still.

=Summer: Hey Adam, can you or Mrs. Ship make it so it doesn't chime when people get sent to medical?=
=Adam: I'll handle that, MRS is uh. A bit busy. But we are keeping up with demand!=
=MRS: F### YOU Pod 82-83 now in use. ADAM!=
=Beth_Earth: Eep!=
=Beth_Space: Uh, yeah. I'm uh. Going back to stealing stuff.=
=Morty_hive: Space Mom! Make sure to see our optional cybernetic stuff! We think it covers a lot of the features you lost, but we'd love you to go over it! {Ongoing_Internal_Equipment_Catalogue.data}=
=Beth_Space: Maybe later dear, I'm pretty sure it would be best to let things cool down a little.=
=MRS: S### YOUR Q## WITH U### Pod 97 now in use. T###!=
=Morty_hive: {Shock.} Uh. Let me turn my profanity filter back on. Yikes.=
=Beth_Space: Yeah, later. We'll do that talk later.=

Profanity filter?

Out of curiosity, Summer flicked the unfound setting off and checked the log.

And VERY QUICKLY turned that thing right back on!

Holy CRAP Mrs. Ship! Just… Damn.

Suddenly the chimes stopped. Which was good! Probably. And now that she had a moment to think, implied that there might be a literal army of siblings and twins coming to fight for the couch wine.

But that was FUTURE Summer's problem.

Though they would probably need a bigger couch. And TV. And uh…

Yeah, future problem.

~~~Broken Adventure~~~
Step.
"[[Medical.]]"
Shit, only one alive here? Damn it. Leave a comm unit and note anyway, maybe this Morty will be lucky. Next.
Portal. Step.
"[[Medical,]] [[Medical,]] [[Medical.]]"
Huh, male Beth and Summer, female Morty? Not too many of those. Local data say Rick was a guy here though, no idea if Space Beth happened. Was Jerry a girl? Huh. Nope, these kids were possible thanks to Rick science and genetic shenanigans.
Or he just modified some family clones or stole them from another or… Whatever, still her kid and grandkids. Wonder if Space Beth exists here? A female twin, a male clone, who knew? Might check it later, if they existed.
Portal. Step.
"[[Medical,]] [[Medical.]]"
Only the grandkids? Crap. Did Beth make it at all, maybe she was fine elsewhere? Maybe Space Beth?
Adam sent the d̤̩͖a̘̥̻͍̻͎t̬̰̮a̟̮͓̤̲.
Shit.
At least Sarah's daughter saved these two.
Focus, don't cry.
Portal. Step.
Oh, a prison cell? Huh.
"[[Medical.]]"
Oh good, the next location is in the same dimension! All three made it!
Portal. Step.
"[[Medical,]] [[Medical!]]"
Adam probably did this on purpose. Sarah had noticed early on that after collecting a fractured family he tended to send her to one of the less hurt ones. Something to help mitigate the emotional damage to a degree.
Portal. Step.
"[[Medical.]]"
Sigh, another solo Morty. That boy could damn near endure anything. If it didn't hurt so much, it would be easier to feel so proud of the child.
Still, more work to do.
Portal. Step.
Time began to blur slightly.
~~~Broken Adventure~~~

The seventh strike team was ready and equipped.

Dispatch checked them over. "Everyone ready?"

They flexed their defensive armors, one of the more reliable but basic Morty Hive standard designs. Not amazing, but able to handle damn near any situation. "SIR! YES SIR!"

Smart asses. "Jump the next on the list, follow the pattern, you know the shift schedule."

Eight Beths gave a grim nod, while their squad captain opened their portal (Blue with their white 7 marked on it), and they deployed.

The eighth team was still getting checked over from the earlier run. "Mrs. Ship, is the new setup still operating to specs?" And THAT had been a frantic couple of months.

The far less stressed ship hummed. "Allocating hive nodes within my escape pods lets us keep on top of it all. Probably best this way too, just in case some sort of disconnect or interference accident happens the new design doesn't endanger passengers on their trips by having their AI vanish."

Beth sighed. "It's good to have so many available spacecraft when we need to go somewhere on a rescue run." And unlike Dad's OLD vehicle, these escape pods were high quality, fast, and defended like hell. Good material makes good products.

Was this it? "You think this is enough?"

The speaker sighed. "Maybe. Adam says Sarah is a bit 'in the zone', but we almost have enough people to rescue our own people without the crazy stuff Dad pulls off. And each new squad of Beth's that volunteer for shift work cuts down the number of blacklist alerts Adam has to keep sending her…"

Yeah. They'd hit a point where Dad could actually rest instead of using her skills to keep saving so many of them non-stop. Adam was positive that once the B Squads could cover Sarah's progress with only eight hours of work a day per person they could convince her to do the same.

Damn it. "We have a plan, it is a good plan, and we are going to follow it."

Build up enough B Squads (And honestly, a LOT of those more 'standard' Beths could have been Space Beths with no problems depending on circumstances, Adventure was in their blood) and they could trick Dad into staying home a bit.

It was just hard to argue against 'My loved ones are in danger' when it is smashed into your face like this.

At least this expensive disaster of an Earth that Mrs. Ship was floating around ensured they had lots of material and energy to build equipment, expand systems, and ensure the rapid population growth had some semblance of order.

And, importantly, made sure they had ROOM.

Sure, some Beths and Mortys and Summers had split off to do their own things or make groups. And a few even established brand new hive minds based on projects or hobbies, which was all good and fine!

But the vast majority of the massive growing population was willing to help try and make Systematic Smith Salvation a full time career option with ever lowering work hours and ever rising benefits.

After all, it was literally life saving work that actively got easier the longer it went on! Talk about an awesome career.

It really brought back college memories about preparing to become a veterinary surgeon, and those times from becoming a physical therapist, and from being a pediatric surgeon, and… Well, not every Beth had the same careers, but the feelings were similar.

And beyond the comradery, just being a Smith in this place was an experience all on its own. One that took a bit of time to adapt to, although years of living in homes modified by Ricks certainly helped a lot.

Something about this growing group really synched with the ship itself. The house was resonating with the conflicting desires of its population, and would shift itself or alter how the rooms connected together to help everyone find who they needed or wanted and get where they needed or wanted to go.

All they needed was Dad to come back.

She was sure Dad would be proud of this.

~~~Broken Adventure~~~
Portal. Step.
"[[Med...]] Huh?"
Where were they?
Her worn mind couldn't catch up.
Had… Had Sarah been too late?
Not another failure. Another loss.
Please, let more than one of them be alive this time.
There had to be one.
Adam made sure.
Right?
A blurry face. "Sw… Swe'tee?"
Not gone. Little girl safe.
Good. "Y'll be 'kay, I snd y'll t' med'kle."
She didn't even look hurt.
That good.
Someone was talking. "...need to sleep, alright? We got this covered Dad."
What? "Got' s've fam'y."
Warm arms. "Shh, we'll handle this."
Her daughter was smart.
Was she falling?
No, the world was falling.
It felt nice. "L've y'u."
Sleep was nice.
Arc 3: The Better Lock-Smith: Forgetting Sarick Mortshall.
Sarah felt wonderful.
No, use more basic materials here, otherwise the modules you need to stabilize it over there will make stuff much more complicated. Don't just make things work, use better materials to begin with!
So relaxed. So relieved.
That's better, don't forget to ask yourself 'Why is this step/part/process' needed BEFORE asking 'How do I fix it/optimize it/simplify it', save yourself a bunch of effort.
Everything was so easy. So simple.
Meh, portal guns were easy enough to hack together, {schematic.data}, even the upgraded portal orbs are basic enough {portal_orb_schematic.data}, start designing a psionic only version of the ability. Something that can't be taken away from my precious children and grandchildren! Plasmids for the win!
Thousands of minds, millions of thoughts, decades of history.
What do you mean you don't know about Plasmids? Just look up the databases… Huh. Adam, give them the… Well, fine, then mark the stuff that acts funky as 'theoretical but unlikely' and THEN give them the data! My Mortys and little sweeties can handle a bit of risky testing!
She swam through data, flew among thoughts, danced betwixt the minds of others.
Oh my sweeties, you don't have to help the other Summers or Beths. We didn't save you to be minions, cannon fodder… We saved you because we love our family. It hurts us to see our loved ones in danger, in pain, trapped. And trying to 'keep you safe' would only be a slow death. Go out and be amazing!
Some left, many more came, and the world [[Grew]] along with the family.
Shh, you are another human cyborg spy unit. That doesn't make you any less of a Morty, we just need to give you a flesh and blood body and segregate your command codes from external influence, we've done this thousands of times. We all love you the same.
This world was lost, and therefore this dimension was safe. Considered trash by 'wiser' men.
She felt the ship twist from raw psionic resonance, as even the 'compressed' version of MRS began to grow to a small neighborhood block, then a small town, a large city. Hidden away through scientific shenanigans, the 'underground' space grew exponentially larger while hidden away and protected, the planet itself being consumed for constant growth and expansion.
Sarah dreamed, but in her mind, a thing so unlike any other Ricks… It so easily accessed the hive connections.
There were divisions now. Smith Clans that focused on rescue, that screamed for revenge, that gleefully hunted loot, that yearned for adventure, that searched the unknown. New collectives of Mortys and Summers and Beths who brought child MRS ships to search for resources, new experiences, missed family.
Sarah was not a normal person, was not in a normal state of mind, was weary in unusual ways from her rapid rescues.
The bounty boards became entertainment, as data streams from numerous command nodes were used to make action videos and record amazing scenes and endless views and humorous hidden captures. And for those too hurt to recover, many synced fully into their hive mind… For a while to heal, or forever to lose themselves.
Sarah, not a normal woman, saw these hive mind connections. '
The thirty-two Beths in medical flinched. "Right, I felt that. Everyone else felt that?"
Lots of nods. Shit. "Hey Adam? Everything alright with Dad?"
The hack letting Dad's strange ultra computer communicate through Mrs. Ship always sounded a bit off to them, but it at least made it easier to keep in touch.
His voice hummed from the nearest speaker. "She'̸s ̀a͝ bit҉ ̢p͡un͜çh dŕunk̡,҉ b̵u̶t̶ sh͏e̶ ͘wi͏l̢l͜ b͢e̷ ́f̢i̕ne. One of the more medically inclined Mortys snorted. "Sarah's been wandering through our designs for weeks now changing stuff and leaving notes everywhere. When we try to see if she's alright or attempt to get her to come back and wake up she just sends us the mental equivalent of a pat on the head and wanders off."
Adam chuckled. "A̶lr̷i͟ght̸, f̡ín͟e̴. ҉S̕he͘'s ̷V҉EŖY̢ pun̵c̢ḩ ͝dr͠un͢k,̷ b̛u̵t b̶i̢o͞l̸o̕gi͞ca͜l͜l̨y a͠n̡d̸ m̶ęntall̴y͠ she i͢s ͏d̶o͠ing al͝r҉ig͏h҉t."
Beth frowned as she felt herself check on the new batch of rescued family, test bloodwork, check on bandaging, and so on and so forth. Beth_Medical hive mind was useful, but didn't keep them all from feeling frustrated sometimes. "But what was that… That 'twang' just now?"
The voice paused as data was sent. EVERYONE flinched at that last word.
They then MENTALLY flinched when they understood what was said. "What!?"
Adam seemed unconcerned. Mrs. Ship broke in. "I'm sorry, I've done WHAT!?"
Nope! No time for another Adam/Ship banter fight! "Is this going to set back Dad's recovery time!?"
She had basically been out of it for a month now, though physically, mentally, and psionically she read as fully recovered according to the sensors. Even the more crazy ones Morty put together when everyone was really getting worried.
Adam chuckled. "I̢f ́sh̕e͝'s̛ ͜nee҉d̢e͜d̴, ̕s͠he'll̕ ͠wakȩ ͟easil͘y͏ enou̧g͠h̀. ͜No҉,̕ ̶t͢his ̛i̷s̡ ͢j̸ust.̨.͘. He paused. "P̧rob͡ab̶l̨y."
The Beths sighed. How were they supposed to argue with that? Not to mention they could all FEEL her Dad somewhere around them now, seeming to smile and laugh and point and coo and praise and poke.
Still. "It's a bit embarrassing."
Adam seemed to audibly shrug. "Pár͢ent̢s̴ c̶a͡n b͏e.̷"
Most of the Mortys and the few Summers in the clinic nodded solemnly even as the Beths rolled their eyes.
Fine. "Tell her that when the rescue crews save enough for us to drop down to six hour shifts per day or lower, she HAS to come spend time with us in the real world too. For nothing else, than to be on hand when one of the more standard Ricks stumbles on this whole thing."
How on earth that hadn't happened yet was beyond them.
~~~Broken Adventure~~~

In a dimension where Rick was eaten and Jerry joined the zombie hoard, the recently saved and emptied Smith home suddenly had a green portal open up.

And Richard Daniel "Rick" Sanchez the III stumbled out of it, drinking from his flask. A concerned Morty followed. "Aw jeez, Rick! Why didn't we come sooner!?"

The drunk scientist grumbled. "Because 'Paranoid Rick' set up a FUCK lot of contengencies, and by the time ours came up several days had already passed. The only reason I'm bothering to follow up on this mess is because sometimes it pans out as a valid concern, I owe him a solid, and he is probably dead now."

Morty held his bat with nails at the ready. "Probably!?"

Rick grunted. "Yeah, he {Belch!} He is a Rick, death is not always a permanent thing for us. Depends on how many defenses he remembered to set up. And, I guess, how many he trusted to actually activate."

This room was empty, but a few of the defenses were still up. "You'd be surprised at how few things the guy was willing to trust to actually work as designed."

Morty paused as they made sure the area was secure. "Well uh. Not really? 'Paranoid Rick' was well…"

Yeah. "Paranoid, I know. The problem is {Swig.} that there is literally an infinite number of people who could be hunting us or after him specifically. Well, that {Belch!} and the fact he cares about those risks. Most Ricks just kill anyone who fucks with us or turns them into mayonnaise or something."

He paused, entering a massive password with only his left pinky. "This particular Rick though, he focused on contingencies. Based on what the alert said, if they worked out correctly? We should be able to save his family and MAYBE himself from the secured room under the secured room between the secured rooms under the… Well, anyway."

Morty twisted his weapon. "Will… Would they be alright down there?"

He snorted. "He's Paranoid Rick, he probably has enough rations for them to stay locked up for a decade or two." Stupid authorization code, it REQURED some wrong entries and reattempts to correctly be entered.

As the code was finally accepted, Rick sighed… And walked away. "Right, now we have to go outside and come back in wearing hats."

Morty blinked. "What?"

Another swig… Better. "Yeah, Paranoid Rick's security systems suck BALLS to get through. Get comfy, this unlocking process is going to take days to finish. And don't go to the bathroom yet, we are going to need that in eight hours. That's like step 3,422 or something."

His grandson winced. "Gross."

Meh, fair enough. But there was a REASON that Paranoid Rick had survived enough to get this paranoid.

~~~Broken Adventure~~~
In a dimension where Rick had exploded and Jerry had turned the attacking army towards his more distant home, the recently saved and emptied Smith home suddenly had a green portal open up.
And Richard Daniel "Rick" Sanchez the III stumbled out of it, drinking from his flask. A concerned Morty followed. "Aw jeez, Rick! Why do we have to do this?"
The drunk scientist grumbled. "To save some damn cash you moron! Now help me loot this house, and if you see any survivors let me know."
The mind altered boy smiled! "Oh!? You think maybe one of us survived here?"
Hopefully not, it sucked having to kill off loose ends and rewrite Morty's mind. Took up a whole afternoon. "Yeah, {Belch!} whatever, get to carrying shit." With a grunt he fell heavily into a chair. Free stuff or not, it wasn't worth HIM doing shit today.
Unknown to both new visitors, an improbable chance had the vibration of Rick sitting down causing some unstable chemicals to jostle in the lab where the surviving Summer had hidden away before Sarah saved her.
The unlikely situation didn't do much. Almost nothing was damaged, almost no change occurred.
It was just a tad unfortunate however that the sudden new reaction happened to produce a chemical that destroyed the paper note explaining where Summer had been taken away to for medical treatment.
And yet, it was even MORE unfortunate that the secured communication device NEXT to that note was damaged and suddenly malfunctioning due to the unexpected liquids that foamed over it too! How sad, it was a very advanced device despite how simplistic it seemed.
Ah well, the liquidized paper sludge and broken electronics would get thrown away by Rick and Morty (Mostly Morty) later on, so it probably didn't matter. And similar incidents happened in other dimensions all the time (At least recently), so it wasn't a big deal.
On an unrelated note, gathering hundreds of thousands of Mortys on an impossible ship constructed out of psionic crystals tuned to Morty himself? An army of Mortys that ALL were dosed with 'Enhance Self' and similar psionic stabilization serums, ones that ensured any interactions with each other would be conceptually beneficial to themselves?
Well, that actually didn't do anything. Literally nothing at all!
Not according to any sensors, at least.
~~~Broken Adventure~~~

Adam was documenting EVERYTHING!

Sure, materials and schematic from one Jump apparently 'cost' less to duplicate or replicate while in the same reality, or at least when it came from a Jump that had similar unseen cosmic foundational rules and formation, but this was still good stuff!

Some of this mess would easily be converted into something usable in the Bioshock Jump, even if a few issues might crop up. A few abilities not quite working right, some equipment not existing correctly, the small stuff basically.

Though it did explain why getting a local 'Infinite material generation' hack going made Jump building drastically cheaper. Sarah was still 'growing' ores and materials using the mako and magic generators from the FF7 Jump, but that stuff (at least locally) was conceptually a bit expensive to 'convert' into local equivalents.

No one wanted to use 'steel' for a house that acts like foam or pie or something unexpected due to universal constants not being so constant, after all.

It was probably why most Jumpchain children didn't have many 'infinite material' options that weren't part of the Warehouse alone, since that was PART of the Jumpchain Avatar himself/herself and therefore could skip the annoying 'Not part of local existence' issues.

And why farms and stuff WORKED in Warehouses… Only animals spawned locally would count as [[harvestable]], theoretically. Those Warehouse units were beyond gone from Sarah's setup, so it was impossible to tell.

Well, whatever. Sarah might have stuff that was super finicky sometimes depending on where she was and what restrictions the local Jump had, but at LEAST Adam could show her the exact issues AND help set up protective and detailed safety protocols to keep her from messing up.

A normal Jumper would just have a whole section of their skill BLOCKED for that Jump, at least for external use. No handing out magic potions or serums for THEM. Sheesh.

Sarah's setup was better, in Adam's biased opinion.

Oh! And 'Research' was pretty sure that at least Sarah could keep using her portal orbs in future Jumps! So take THAT, you non-broken/properly working Warehouses! Adam 01 - Straw Warehouse 00!

Heh. Anyway!

From what Adam could tell, the 'benefit' to purchasing the portal gun wasn't just to 'use it' on future Jumps, but to use local Jump laws to force FUTURE Jumps to spawn a multitude of dimensions like here in the Rick and Morty Jump. In other words, to have places to portal TO, destination wise.

Which explained why it was so fucking expensive. Sheesh.

That said, if a Jump already HAD another dimension, like heaven or neverland or the care bears kingdom or whatever, Sarah's portal orbs (And Portal Plasmid, if the Mortys figures that out) could get her there.

It was basically a tunnel variant of her existing teleporting abilities, and Adam was ensuring that any improvements the two skills could borrow or steal from each other were being recorded and tested.

At least Sarah herself would be able to use this mess anywhere, even if Plasmids or Magic or even Science aren't necessarily workable for outsiders she tries to enhance on her journey.

Anyway, back on topic!

ALL the documentation!

Sure, the Beths were gathering all sorts of interesting data for 'Research' due to them doing all those rescue and loot and killing missions while wearing the Morty armors with enhanced hive mind connected sensor suites, and Summers had all sorts of off the wall ideas and random fun projects that Adam loved to observe and sometimes mess with…

But damn, Morty.

That boy took to the hive mind like he was BORN for it.

Maybe there was a reason many local Ricks ended up in a relationship with a hive mind in the past? Because while ALL the Smiths enjoyed the connection and communication method to a certain extent, it didn't come CLOSE to how deep the Mortys went.

Most Mortys tend to stay above 66% connection to the Morty hive mind at minimum, even the Smith hive hit 32% or higher most of the time! They shared memories like breathing, exchanged ideas like free snacks, and inspiration flowed as a river through the entire mess!

Adam was having a hell of a time just watching them clash and grow as they split into groups, into arguments, as they joined and turned and twirled and… It was almost like every Morty already had a weak connection to the others BEFORE they got augmented.

It was beautiful, even as it directly improved their 'little side projects'.

After all, a single Morty wasn't a replacement for a Rick. Honestly, to most Ricks? A Morty was worth like… their neighbor Gene with donkey brains, or half a Paul Giamatti, or two crows. Depending on how much of a dick that Rick was, of course.

But what if there were a hundred Mortys? A thousand? Ten thousand? More?

All able to help expand a thought or point out issues, all sharing memories and teachings and lessons and what tiny fragments of teaching the Ricks bothered to give.

Not to mention the many fake Mortys, robot Mortys, alternate memory Mortys, and so on and so forth that Sarah had rescued and 'healed' up to something more baseline and sane. Talk about an outside perspective!

Now the Morty hive mind had thousands of sub hive minds that all got different levels of connection and investments. And yes, as a teenager, several are dedicated to devient topics or basic porn. But on average?

They were making some good shit.

Oh, Adam certainly helped. He had set up a stupidly large set of databases inside MRS by this point, with information on many topics, separated by region and planet and dimension and culture and so on and so forth.

Some of the more inventive Summers had even visited other worlds that still had economies and higher learning and PAID to have those learned people and creatures scanned by some of the more advanced tools Morty made, and THAT had turned out so well that there was an ongoing bounty now for squads exploring dimensions to scan libraries and minds and stuff.

It sort of built on itself, and new Mortys could easily join the hive and 'catch up' in moments with no trouble. That stacked up, and Adam certainly wasn't stopping it or slowing things down by letting 'Research' help parse out the mess into easily searched chunks and usable connections.

After all, it meant one important fact: More data!

Woo!

Oh, and on a related note? The amount of drugs that Summers ended up doing had dropped significantly. Turned out, it was MUCH less frustrating and yet very satisfying to dunk yourself into the Summer hive mind than it was to huff enamel.

The moms certainly appreciated that, at least.

That said, there were now Rescue Beths and Space Beths and Pirate Beths and Medical Beths and Huntress Beths and Family Beths and Exploring Beths and a few Ship Beths and (so far) one Tree Beth (Nope, no idea how that happened). Sarah's daughters were amazing to watch in action, and seemed much less restricted now that they had a family they could really rely on for support.

Really a go getter woman honestly.

Thankfully, while there was still a massive amount of material on this dead Earth to [[Harvest]], the many resource orbs were ramping up in capacity… So the frantic growth and manufacturing orbs had material and energy to keep going as MRS grew ever larger and more complicated.

Many Summers, Mortys, and Beths were getting portal orbs now just to more easily visit different sections of the home ship (Ship home?). Thankfully it was easy enough for Adam to quickly ensure no potential overlaps or damage to anyone…

Uh yeah. Seeing Sarah's broken memories of people standing in the wrong spot and getting bisected or worse? Well, it was WORTH making the Portal Orb more complex and less efficient to ensure such damage was purposeful rather than accidental.

In fact, wasn't one of the Mortys trying to establish a relative portal blade for his arm? It was supposed to 'slice' through stuff by sending material to a trash dimension instead of bothering to burn or cut anything. Right, where was that schematic, Adam saw it SOMEWHERE earlier.

His attention was caught instead by the most recent shift change. Ooh! The teams will be back soon! New family/stolen food goods/data storage units/interesting materials/drugs for selling to the eventual external Rick market! Nice!

~~~Broken Adventure~~~
Sarah Bellum smiled at the beautiful thing her sweeties had built, the amazing work that had been constructed… And sighed. <Adam.>
He was bouncing along! <<Hmm dee dum dee do! Oh, another copy of the Library of Congress? Oh, this one is written in Nyan-Cat speak! Score!>>
Come on, Boss. <Adam.>
He really wasn't paying attention. <<Oh a psionically enhanced recipe for Qrickar Pie!? Oh, uh. Well, that is pretty much just pumpkin pie, but still! Technically different! Right? Maybe. Hang on, let's look it up in 'Research' and maybe...>>
Sigh. <A̼̩͎̣̻̪̱d͕̦͉̙̺̦a̩̝̼̝̦m̻͉͔͔.>
His information jerked! <<ACK! Don't DO that! Oh, my poor computational units!>>
Instantly a thousand tasks got queued up and handled. <<Sorry, what's up Sarah?>>
She smiled at her family. <It's time to go.>
His shock pulsed. <<Huh?>>
Yeah, it felt too soon for her too.
Adam actually whined, the big goof. <<But! But the data! Look at all the delicious data!>>
Sarah smiled, having watched thousands of Mortys also going nuts over the stuff. <Yep. Lots of fun data.>
He sent a nod! <<Yeah, we gotta get like… LOADS more before we consider doing anything else! A few centuries at least, the healing pods will keep the family up and running that long no problem.>>
Heh. <No, it's time to go.>
Adam pouted! <<What!? At least like… five years?>>
She sighed. How to put this in a way he would accept? <We need to keep going. I need to keep growing. The family is safe now, it is self growing and able to defend itself, and I will still be here when we go.>
He humphed! <<But the data!>>
Yeah, she saw that 'data'. <How much of it is ACTUALLY useful? And not just varients of 'neat' and 'huh'? Most of the advanced stuff is being done by our Mortys and the one or two motivated Ricks out there, and it isn't enough to keep us from moving on.>>
Adam swelled up! And deflated. <<Yeah, I… I guess I realized that most of the 'advanced' science only works here because of all the heavy psionic fields and local Jump environment. And we did snag most of the interesting stuff already.>>
Yeah, she knew. Sarah had seen the massive amounts of 'Duplicate, Skip!' messages Adam was wading through by this point. Recently the guy had been ecstatic over math books that were based on flawed principles just because it had fun bad logic in it to make stuff make sense.
They probably should have left weeks ago.
Still. <What's really going on here, Adam? Why are you so reluctant?>
He sighed. <<You know how you leave a clone behind when we Jump?>>
Yep. <Planned on me leaving a secondary mental clone for my hive mind too. I REALLY don't want to leave a clone of Shiva here. Why?>
Adam mentally slounched. <<I can't do that. Or more accurately, I can do that… Once.>>
Huh?
He sent data. <<When I move on, I personally will stay with you as your Warehouse, though I might become more integrated and more… Warehouse-like. I will basically be the clone though, as my shard moves on.>>
Sarah blinked at the thought that one day, Boss would do to her what she was doing to her own loved ones. It was kind of a nice warm fuzzy thought, that they were symmetrical like that. <Huh.>
Adam hummed. <<Yeah, and like my Cultivation self establishes a feed with my Source, so I will become a Warehouse self sending data to my greater self as my shard self moves on to further adventure. In a way, you'll be safer then because if something goes REALLY bad, a whole LOT of Adams would find out. And have opinions.>>
Sarah followed the logic even as she mentally made a note to ask about this 'Cultivation' and 'Source' self later. <So except for your shard?>>
He sent data. <<Yeah, I'm already a growing hive mind. My own nature won't let me spit further while on this trip with you and well... Like I said, I like the infinite, if useless, data here.>>
She sighed. <Well, I mean… I guess we can stay longer?> It felt wrong though. Something inside knew that she had to keep Jumping toward her end goal, it was an instinct. This Jump was stable and safe, it was time to move on.
He grumbled. <<No, I'm just a bit grumpy. I mean, I could make recursive versions of myself inside myself making recursive versions of myself, but they would just follow us as we Jump and then we would ALL complain about it. No thank you.>>
Uh. Alright, whatever: Let that go Sarah. <Get the next options ready?>
Adam sent a thumbs up! <<Will do! And hopefully I've figured out how to better test what skills, material, and equipment can be used by us BEFORE we make a choice this time! Maybe.>>
She felt him get to work doing whatever he did to make this mess operate and took some time to set up her own local hive mind Avatar. Had to be careful not to accidentally make one for each EXISTING hive mind, no child should have his (or her) female grandfather inside their mind for their whole life.
That would be awkward.
Arc 3: Finally, More Normal Title Names! They Were Getting Rick-diculous.
Scheduling Rick was as lame as always. "And so opens the Glen33 Module 82lLG meeting detailing procurement, concerns regarding listings, and clone concerns."
Right, it was about damn time! Fucking Citadel Ricks all wasting effort on this paperwork crap. "I have a complaint about claim jumping!"
The Council turned to him, with the ones on his bribe list looking somewhat interested. "Yes, Rick from 9-2184C?"
He sent off the data. "I claimed these four blacklisted dimensions two years ago and I found infiltration markers and stolen goods that were on record as of half a year ago as available. All missing."
Sure, he hadn't bothered to go there or do anything, that was the whole damn point of claiming the things! Hell, he had kept an EYE on places like this, where the damage was located on one of the worthless Earths or something local and he could easily harvest other dimensional locations without having to search for valuables or do any effort!
So imagine his rage when he showed up to loot one of the locked vaults belonging to the local Galactic Federation morons and it was fucking EMPTY! It was HIS SHIT, and some fucker had stolen it FIRST!
One of the Ricks NOT on his payroll had to be a dick, like usual. "What items were missing, and what traces do we have to work with?"
If he could TALK about the illegal shit he was going to steal, he wouldn't have helped destabilize those dimensions in the FIRST place! These other short sighted Ricks wouldn't put up with geniuses like him not being under a somewhat loose leash of what little morality they refused to ignore.
Still. "They managed to somehow sabotage my sensors…" Or the cheap shit he stole from the other Rick labs broke down, hard to tell sometimes. "But they ALSO modified my inventory lists! I can barely tell what is missing at all!"
Which, while true, wasn't the point. Someone stealing his stash 'house' and prototype Morty infiltrator drones had been unacceptable, sure. But they were failed projects that would have decayed past recovery anyway by this point.
No, the BIG issue was that a whole damn TEAM of people somehow got into HIS crap AND the shit he was eventually GOING to steal and got away scot free! "I made some inquiries and it was at least between forty-three to fifty-two teams of eight people in advanced armor. And I only got THAT much information from eye witnesses!"
It was a damned hassel, and the torture took so long he wasted some mental scanning equipment stolen from the GOOD stuff just to speed up results. Even more money and resources lost due to this mess.
At least THAT made the fuckers situp. And he KNEW it would, most Ricks had issues making large organizations without the bigger groups and clans and councils and so forth sticking their beak in. Or Ricks like him finding them first for some free loot and some 'family' to sell.
There was always a Rick out there SOMEWHERE who wanted to 'help' one of those freak alternate versions of his long gone little girl, or even even those parasitical 'grandkids' too.
But those deluded fools needed to suck it up and realize it was all pointless EVENTUALLY.
Until then, his profit train kept coming in… Until someone fucking invaded his station and drailed everything! "They weren't just competent, they were fucking GHOSTS! I have backup locations that were not only detected but MISSING! Just… Just fucking holes in the ground!"
He sent more imagery. "This happened weeks ago, and none of my equipment triggered! This needs to be handled YESTERDAY!"
And one of those damn 'Goody two-shoe' Ricks had to butt in. "But you have no actual scans? No traces? No logs?"
Fuck. "No."
And THIS Rick had a look in his eye that felt a bit too knowing. "How… Unfortunate. It seems you've joined a growing group of Ricks with a serious concern when it comes to personal security."
A display popped up… and Rick's blood ran cold. He knew those people.
He knew ALL those people.
The Council Rick hummed. "Seems that, after a bit of investigation, many of these poor, unfortunate victims of harsh injustice from another invader... Had a few skeletons in their closets."
Even more people. Familiar Ricks and fences and middle men and women. And the list kept scrolling, like cold mockery slicing his soul.
The man leaned forward, looking down at him. "After the fiftieth or so 'coincidence', I'm afraid some basic checks were implemented to see if there was a pattern or not. Some connecting thread."
He glanced at his personal screen. "Or, in your case, threads. It turns out that you had many friends, Rick of 9-2184C. Many talkative people who had suffered similar issues but were suddenly very helpful to our inquiries for one reason or another."
Knowing eyes and several fucking Ricks who took his money KNOWING he was already hosed came down from on high with hidden glee. "I wonder, Rick of 9-2184C, if you feel like having a bit of a talk yourself?"
Fuck. "I can get a plea bargain?"
One snorted. "You can live slightly longer and there would be much less pain involved."
Fuck it, he could get out of this. First, to ensure he lived long enough to try. "Yeah… A talk sounds nice."
~~~Broken Adventure~~~

Morty sighed. "They found out about the digital scrubbing software. Or at least suspect it now, since only witnesses remember the collection teams."

Another one kept working. "Meh, they only counted like fifty of our trips across his four 'blacklist claims', less than one percent of the teams getting detected? That's still more than acceptable."

The more mechanical Morty hummed as he tested the new limb. Some of him really loved going robot/cyborg/terminator, since it was so easy to undo or modify the choice later. "Any progress with the 'somebody else`s problem' field?"

He shrugged. "No, it still gets most people and the majority of species to look away… Just, some people can resist it, or it doesn't interface right. And the Moms don't want us to make it more efficient since it would start damaging people occasionally if we try and boost the numbers."

One Summer adjusting the wrist launcher snorted. "WE would be fine, just the idiots who keep trying to film us and do ambushes and shit might get some nosebleeds. And we need to increase the speed restrictions on this thing, you're going to snap a rod trying to twist it the wrong way."

The cyborg boy grumbled. "I can just swap it out, and I want to be able to do that grab bullets thing! It was so cool!"

Wasn't that an experimental Plasmid? And it was supposed to return the blasts to sender, not make them fall out of the air, cool as it had been.Anyway. "How many more Ricks are on the docket today?"

The nearest hive Morty (Some did NOT like being individuals) hummed. "We got another three today, and more showing up over the week. Also, we got another fifty Mortys and a dozen or so Smith aligned Ricks adding to their numbers soon… While we can't include Summers or Moms in that group, we are getting enough of a presence that one of the Mortys thinks he has a real shot at maybe doing a presidential run."

Huh. "Really?"

Some Mortys ran smaller hive minds and stuff, but most of them spent more time finding girlfriends or looting places or going off to explore without the pressure of Rick forcing dangerous shit on them all the time. They all tended to avoid leadership roles, due to paperwork if nothing else.

Still. "What's he going to run on?"

The hive Morty hummed. "Addressing the class divide between the various Ricks and Mortys on the Citadel, and about working with neutral sources to establish better standards of living and, to keep the Ricks invested, access cheaper materials and better drugs and alcohol. Stuff enhanced for Ricks but with less long term drawbacks."

So less drunk Ricks to keep an eye out for and those experimental drugs that make you healthier while making you feel better? He could vote for that. "We would be the 'neutral sources', right?"

Several of the lab workers snorted. "Oh yeah." "Not that we don't have basically infinitely free stuff already." "But they don't know that, and we can get financial dominance." "I mean, we kind of already do? Don't we give better deals to the nice Ricks we stumble on already?" "Well yeah, but it's always better to encourage the least asshole Ricks to outpace and outperform his more asshole versions." "Didn't we find that one 'Rick Book Club'? The one that collected poetry?" "Oh yeah, I guess they would count as 'neutral'."

Summer hurled her spanner to the ground! "SHOVE IT IN THE HIVE! I do NOT need to hear this mess!"

"""""""Aw jeez, Sis!"""""""

She snorted. "Brothers. This is why we tend to team up with other Summers!"

Yet she didn't leave, which was why Roboticist Summer was one of their favorite siblings. At least in this lab.

~~~Broken Adventure~~~
Sarah could talk and talk about how ready she was to go but she was quick enough to go visit the Smith Art Collection exhibit when invited. And was taking ALL the pictures, and being fondly tolerated by her massive and absurd family.
Meanwhile, he had to get stuff done. Ah well.
Adam sighed. Right, best get on with it.
The nearest three best (Or mostly stable) Jumps were Dragonball Xenoverse, Final Fantasy 8, and Kim Possible.
And almost INSTANTLY Adam wanted to toss the Dragonball option out the damn window! Just on principle alone!
Even in the BEST alternate reality versions of that place, he could taste the raw death! Planets being destroyed were common, nearly every person died and was brought back all the time, only unimportant people had consequences, it was a rough place as a whole.
Seriously, his more enhanced sensors could sort of touch his future to-be-implanted memories of the place! If you were a policeman or a random woman? Death. From a bazillion sources.
If you were an 'interesting' or 'conflicted' hero or bad guy? Hell, half the time even if you WEREN'T relatable, but were just 'fun' or 'interesting'? Death just didn't matter any more.
Sure, you slaughtered a hundred thousand people and children and babies… But a few fights later and you are dating one of the hot female lead characters (While still being an asshole, mind you) and hanging with the bros.
Or you came back with magical wishes. Or became a robot. Or an alternate version of yourself would change time. Or travel from another dimension. Or fucking ESCAPE FROM HELL via COMBAT.
There were SO MANY gods in that Jump that being a deity wasn't considered interesting! There were enough gods to have their own society, and THAT society had ITS OWN hierarchy of stupidly impossibly powerful people!
Some controlled fate, others controlled time, some were so powerful they could PUNCH THOSE ISSUES AWAY!
So uh. No. Even if Sarah WENT there, she would spend MOST of her time hiding. In space, with nothing within range. And even THAT might not be good enough, considering the space robot assimilation race and the god tree that consumes planets and… Yeah.
Still, Adam was going to at least LOOK at the potential drawbacks before saying no.
And he WAS going to say no.
Because fuck that place! It was basically an End Jump, the needed 'boost' to help a Jumper Ascend! Jumps ENDED at places like this!
Sigh. No, do your due diligence Adam.
No restrictions on drawbacks? Oh my. What shock. This is his shocked skull. Still, any attempt at going over 600cp would potentially destabilize this Jump, so he'd self limit in this case.
A few 0cp options that altered reality a bit, no thank you. In fact, let's go high points and then move down the list, yes?
{Fun with Fu: +300cp} would tell a helpful and brilliant scientific Demon about the Jumpchain. And by being 'helpful', he in reality would find other versions of your friends and enemies, give them advanced intel on you and enhanced abilities and power ups, then send them to kill you. But hey, if you survive all that AND don't get erased from existence due to temporal strain you theoretically get him as a Jump companion for free!
But Sarah can't HAVE Jump companions. So it would be near death all the time by someone who KNEW how strong she ACTUALLY was and…
Sigh. Yeah, that sounds about right for this Jump.
{Ultimate Battle: +300cp} would prevent ANY logic, empathy, bad timing, love, yadda yadda… NONE of that could stop a fight anymore. Everything that caused ANY conflict for any reason would infinitely escalate, and mostly become lethal… Not even constant spars, no, Sarah would get into death matches because of hair styles or painting choices.
Maybe she would like to become {History's Most Wanted!: +300cp}? Having stupidly powerful people trying to kill her constantly? And if you WIN, stronger foes would show up?
God, this sucked. An option to drastically reduce your skills and force literal mountains of training to become competent, much less fight challenging foes. A physical flaw that makes it easier to beat the shit out of her, even if she was stronger than her foe. A hard cap on her endurance, a limit to her power source capacity, no.
Constantly fighting the same fights? Sheesh!
The only acceptable options were all cheap as hell for points. Basically +100cp each. Being bald? Meh, bald can be sexy. Having issues keeping track of time? Sarah basically had this already, although that would SUCK in a reality that FOCUSED on paradoxes and time travel. Bad cooking skills? Adam could just hand over the tasty treats, no issue. A friendly rival might even be fun!
But that basically meant unlimited problems and danger and STUPID TIME TRAVEL with only having +400cp to work with. And the Warehouse wasn't exactly working at 100%, so who knew how good these temporal defenses would turn out to be.
At least she wouldn't have to consider paying for Companion options, considering ALL companions and pets were pretty much forbidden. And she could summon Shiva? Having a respawnable ice goddess would help, probably.
Sigh, right. So that was like… Double no.
Let's try and make it a TRIPLE no!
Race options were fairly cheap. Humans and Saiyan were free, which was insane because Saiyans were literally combat junkies with built in cheat codes: If they survived they got stronger. Forever, no cap, no limits. As long as they TRIED to keep improving, they eventually would.
On the other hand, that Background introduced astonishingly high levels of overconfidence. Examples? Forcing comrades to let foes recover and get STRONGER to 'get better fights', ignoring the potential death of their own planet if they might win 'too easily', not bothering to fight or train when not in danger because they were 'The greatest warriors in the universe!' despite being disproved like… sixty times or something.
Yeah, there might be genetic mental issues if Sarah went with Saiyan. That, and she would get a new tail that would work well with bondage play (Instant kryptonite if damaged or gripped) that would ALSO let her turn into a giant mindless rage apes during a local planet's full moon.
So uh. Yeah, mental issues.
Also, most Saiyans are VERY bad about any non-combat social cues. It took near sexual assault to convince one that you may be interested in trying to have a relationship. Or them randomly deciding that you should be their lover for some arbitrary reason, most of the time involving the woman kicking their ass physically or through trickery.
Wasn't there an attractive super smart woman that basically dated a random bandit and then an invading saiyan because she had some sort of kink for being treated like trash? Seriously, that whole reality cluster BOTHERED Adam, and he could barely SENSE the shit going on there!
Sigh. Move on, Adam.
A few race choices that matched the bad guys, nice! Those jerks got LOTS of default boosts by just being born with certain cheats like super regeneration or 'grow strong with age and you are biologically immortal' tricks.
Oh, and this is cute: Sarah could become a Goddess. Just, straight up for free. Or a demon.
Or an Android with nearly none of the disadvantages of being a super creation without a society advanced enough to support it, infinite energy, blah blah blah.
And even STILL, it wasn't worth going there! Because those super powerful races got kicked around like ping pong balls all the DAMN time! Free or not, NO thank you!
There were safer ways to get and train ki, the energy generated via the physical side of the concept of the person. Honestly, there were probably a thousand safer ways!
And most of these actual purchase options were related to the constant time travel. Ensuring people would react well to you, that you wouldn't mess up reality by showing up and 'butterflying away' known events, yadda yadda.
The big ticket items were being a prodigy, having anyone willing to train you with even secret knowledge or family items, super efficient training, temporary boost in max power, rage based boosts, absorb ambient tension as temporary power boost or healing energy source, or force fusion to become stronger by absorbing a foe which sounded… Gross.
The only real temptation there was being immune to mind control and Adam wouldn't let Sarah go through shit like that ANYWAY. Teleporting her back to the Warehouse until deprogrammed or the most recent attempt wears off was a free and easy way to cheat that issue already, even assuming the bad guy managed to find something that would affect the woman in the first place.
Just… No. Adam would SHOW her the choice, give a short speech about 'No', let her give her argument, and then say 'No' anyway because this was a dumb choice for dumb people.
He was pretty sure he could make her all powerful without picking a stupid Jump like that anyway.
Grr.
Sigh, right. What about Final Fantasy 8? Final Fantasy 7 turned out alright, except for that Hojo bastard.
{Time Kompression: +300cp} would have the end game Sorceress targeting Sarah, so no. Sorceresses in general were OP here, each one focused on one aspect of reality or magic, and THIS one was stupidly powerful over time specifically. No reason to jump start annoying issues for Sarah as soon as she shows up.
{Love Grows: +300cp} was a hard no. Forced emotional attachment? Especially to a person who is already spoken for AND not interested? No thank you. Sarah would be strong enough to do something unfortunate too, considering this drawback seems to hack into her mental abilities too so that her lust interest is literally ALL that matters and is beyond reproach from her own flaws.
Having a mentally unstable Sarah would likely be as much if not MORE deadly than the original world crisis the FF8 Jump had to deal with already! Sheesh.
Oh! {Lunar Cry: +300cp} was some free points! Not for normal people or many Jumpers, but Sarah wouldn't be THAT inconvenienced from being on a lunar surface surrounded by hoards of hostile creatures.
Plus, she could easily prevent (Or at least delay) the next 'Lunar Cry' when the beasts smash into the planet from the Moon and repopulate the world's monster reservoirs! Unlike OTHER Jumpers, Sarah could easily use [[Phase Pierce]] to view the planet and teleport over, no reason to rely on the dangerous event to get off the moon.
So +300cp get! That was half the Jump safety cap right there, woot!
Also, snag {Witch Hunt: +200cp} because Sarah could care less about being considered an evil Sorceress. Hell, it's likely to happen anyway because of her EXISTING skills anyway! So fuck it, get the free points along with the headache!
Not to mention there would be free funds when the assassins and idiots try and attack her. She'd love that!
Man, let's just skip down to the +100cp options, no reason to get more anyway considering how fragile these Jumps seem to be (Probably because of their 'close' distance to this fucking 'Rick and Morty' Jump) and being hunted by a train or heavily limited all the time didn't sound like fun anyway.
Oh, and there was a perfect choice! {Amnesiac: +100cp} was PERFECT for Sarah, now that Adam had fixed the 'brain almost explode' issue from the Final Fantasy 7 Jump attempt. Plus, she would get a GF (Guardian Force, basically a summon) Junctioned to herself on Jump!
And Adam could probably… Yep! It WAS possible to make that starting GF Shiva!
Huh. On this Jump Shiva would look like a sexy near nude mermaid/aquatic creature than an ice elf, but it was still in Sarah's 'strike zone', so to speak. And being Junctioned to Sarah would reduce her basic attacks to [[Diamond Dust]], a laser beam ice attack basically… But it would allow Sarah to gain abilities and equip magic to enhance herself depending on how attuned to the Guardian Force she was.
Considering that Sarah wouldn't have to worry about the memory loss and the mental damage from equipping and 'Mastering' any GF, she'd probably unlock the Junction skills SUPER quickly too!
Adam hummed as he carefully examined the benefits Junctioning would give his Jumper.
Shiva would let Sarah naturally bind magic to Strength, her Vitality (Physical damage resistance, basically), Spirit (Ability to resist magic)... As well as hook magic up to her attack and up to TWO elements to her defense.
Also, she would gain the ability to interact and cast magic directly, to draw it from foes or natural locations in the world itself, to have Shiva help her access and manipulate her inventory to easily use Items during conflict safely, and call forth Shiva's physical form for her most powerful [[Diamond Dust]] attack!
Heck, with their memory cheat Sarah would probably have picked this drawback for free, much less a bonus +100cp! And what was this 'Doom' ability she would gain from bonding with Shiva?
Adam blinked. Huh.
[[Doom]] would target one foe and give them 10 seconds to live. It could work on many enemies and species, even some that were normally immune to Death based attacks.
That was kind of awesome! Slower than Sarah just smashing everyone, but it could be fun. 'Research' would LOVE to research it, at least.
Other than that, syncing with Shiva would let Sarah boost her magic ability and physical resistance, allow more power for her [[Diamond Dust]] attack and even boost it, and enhance Shiva's durability.
Ooo! And she can refine 'water' and 'ice' magic from junk! Sweet!
And hell, Sarah hadn't even picked any goodies yet, though she would likely pick this one anyway just so that Shiva can get a boost in ability.
No, wait. Just like with the sucky Jump, you can't just stop and drool over the GOOD choice either. Focus Adam.
Right, Kim Possible. Basically a kick-ass girl secret spy thing.
What drawbacks were worth what?
Time travel assassination attempts? No. Mental issues and constant fear and trauma? Double no. All friends, family, and lovers become evil, kidnapped, or traitors? Eugh. No!
{All That: +200cp} was a maybe. Sarah would be completely oblivious to her own capabilities and always believe herself to be the best person for a job… Which uh. Would be true, basically. Oh, and if anyone is better than her, she would become jealous towards them. And frustrated if she doesn't excel at anything.
Uh huh. In a world with barely any powers or god-like threats. Yeah.
So, free points basically.
The mentally altered aspects of {Attention Whore: +200cp} made that a no, {Vivid Imagination: +200cp} was a weak maybe since she would be so overpowered that being mentally checked out wouldn't really be much of a problem.
{Depantsed: +100cp} might be sexy fun times since Sarah had the body to rock that and not many self imagery issues. Plus, the drawback was based on a dorky nerd guy being trolled by the show, not a hot sexy lady who could care less… Different vibes really. Depends on her opinion of it, really.
{American-Style Jokes: +100cp} was free points, just made everyone laugh harshly at Sarah when she does slapstick or says something foolish. A few body tosses would handle that, easily enough.
And {Pigmentation Disorder: +100cp} would be a fun one, since it would just give her an 'unhealthy' color. No actual pain or whatever, just looking unwell. That's it.
So yeah, maybe +500cp for a sexy sick goddess among people to drop her pants a lot while people laugh or flee in terror or offer medical advice.
Or, and Adam was just pointing this out, go to Final Fantasy 8 and become a {Sorceress: -300cp}. He pulled up the details.
{Sorceress: -300cp} [Human women in which part of the power of the Great Hyne has been hidden, a lineage traced back to when the mysterious creator of humanity fled from the righteous fury of its creations. The only wielders of true magic, which far outstrips the artificial para-magic drawn from the world or foes, a Sorceress in full control of her powers is typically the strongest single being on the planet besides other Sorceresses. A Sorceress is made, not born, though it is by birth that someone has the qualities that makes a good candidate. Sorcery is passed on when a Sorceress is near her death, at which time she must find a successor or she cannot truly die…. Though she can be forced to pass her power onto the nearest woman if no others are available…
Holy shit, this wasn't a description, this was a BOOK! Hang on, let's try and fix this mess.
{Sorceress: -300cp} [Women empowered with fragments from the Great Hyne, the creator of humanity exiled by its creations. Wielders of True Magic, when a Sorceress is in full control of her powers she is one of the strongest beings on the planet. Feared for their power and actions taken by past Sorceresses, many are treated terribly and become twisted from neglect and abuse. Magic can cause the user to have odd traits, body parts, and marks, which will show when using her power. If male, purchasing this is a free gender swap.]
MUCH less wordy! And uh. Yeah.
Comparing THAT basic purchase Background to Kim Possible's 'Spaz', 'Athlete', 'Scientist', or 'Villain' options?
Not really a contest.
So, let's just assume Sarah picks the super awesome near-goddess sorceress option.
Considering the other Backgrounds were {Drop In: 0cp}, {Soldier: -100cp}, {SeeD: -100cp} (They were mercenaries, basically), {Instructor: -100cp}, or {Scientist: -100cp}?
Well, her picking super magic was probably a good bet really.
Hmm. Her starting location didn't matter since her Drawback would land her on the moon anyway, and her age would be… Sixteen? Sheesh, good thing she didn't have the alcoholic drawback anymore. Unless that was old enough there? Whatever.
So, sweet sixteen and on the moon! What could she get for her remaining 300cp?
Adam hummed along as Sarah was off doing whatever she was doing. As frustrating as this process could be, he really enjoyed getting to examine these optional Jumps without any pressure.
He casually ignored the 3,239 Jumps that were so unstable that some had literally collapsed just from being examined as potential chain choices. Unlike LAST Jump, THIS selection list was less concerning.
After all, there had been forty-three Jumps mostly stable enough to pick from this time (Even if only three were really worth reviewing), so everything was fine. And maybe NEXT Jump there would be one or two choices close to known canonical events!
It would be fun to find out!
Arc 3: Oh. Oh! Oh? It's Magic!
Sarah sighed.
It was time.
But first, one more hug! No, group hug! "Everyone get together real quick!"
Her dozen or so daughters and grandkids wandered over. "Yeah Dad? Did you ACK!"
Woo! "SNUGGLE PUDDLE!" "Aw Jeez!" "Grandpa get OFF me!" "Dad I'm falling oveERAH!" "Ouch!" "Too many elbows!"
Perfect exit! And now clone Sarah Bellum and her hive mind partner can handle the fallout!
Ha!
[[JumpChain: Transfer.]]
~~~Broken Adventure~~~

Sarah giggled as she fell back in her chair.

Adam chuckled as well. <<You know you will eventually pay for that, right?>>

Meh. "That's Ms. Bellum's problem now, and you know we have an awesome bunch of kids. Did you see that whole department dedicated to making their own off brand Plumbus line?"

He grinned. <<Yeah, but YOU know that you will likely set up a hug ambush or something when we head back this way.>>

Oh no, more hugs. It is to fear. "Right, what you got for us this time?"

Data came up. <<You've got three choices this time! Two wrong ones and Final Fantasy 8.>>

Huh? Wait, no, She had the data right here. "Hang on, let me read this."

Right, Dragonball Xenoverse with a potential +400cp, Final Fantasy 8 with +600cp, and Kim Possible with +500cp.

Although the drawbacks for FF8 seemed pretty easy, when compared to being a perverted ill girl stuck in high school getting unwillingly stripped all the time or being a bald mentally ditzy bad cook with a best bud stuck in what seemed to be a death Jump.

Because really, being stuck on the moon with lots of free targets? Fixed in seconds. Being considered a traitorous 'Sorceress' or 'Witch'? She had people who thought worse about her NOW, in SEVERAL Jumps. Only remembering the last five years?

Uh. That wasn't even really a drawback. The last five years covered ALL her last jumps PLUS a good chunk into her Bioshock life. She'd still remember all her new loved ones AND get a free +100cp!

Damn, it did seem one sided. "Tell me more about the other two and why you are so against them."

Adam pulled up Kim Possible. <<If this was a more normal Jump, you would be in a setting where an athletic, attractive, super perfect girl and her nerd male friend sidekick attend school and also save the day as a James Bond knock off. Has a friend who is basically Q, provides gadgets, but has a phobia keeping him locked away in front of a computer somewhere. The nerd friend has a cute kind of talking animal sidekick, a naked mole rat… And like a lot of Jumps, almost everyone is super attractive and the danger is very low.>>

He sighed. <<Again, if it was normal, you would be bored to death attending school in ANY capacity… And most villains can be defeated by ACCIDENT here if they aren't careful. Not quite as bad as some 'humor villains', and some of the bad girls are both talented AND powerful… But we can't bring them with us and the science involved isn't THAT advanced and seems to work on either psionics or magic or some other non-technological basis.>>

Sarah frowned. "But, as you are clearly trying to point out, it ISN'T normal."

More data. <<Nope. None of the three Jumps are. So it could be any time period when we enter, there could be all sorts of unknown risks, and most importantly? Most of the purchases don't seem worth the risk. Not enough benefit for the cost.>>

She sighed. "Let me look over the Kim Possible Document before we move on. Just in case."

Right, let's assume she was a pant's dropping sick pervert. Heh. What could she snag for 500cp?

Background seemed locked to the James Bond Q analogue, {Scientist: -100cp}, as it would let her have both a boost to her mad science skills (Literally, it was marked as 'ethically questionable' in the damn text) and a free way out of formal education to boot. The other options were lacking, unless they gave some DAMN good discounts for some other ability.

Let's see, {Hacker: -100cp, Scientist -50cp} was fiat based infiltration skills. {Culinarian: -100cp, Spaz -50cp} would make her an awesome cook.

Nope to any intelligence boosting abilities, that had been a near miss on the Rick and Morty Jump already… She had been WAY too Rick like for a woman who was a badly made clone with robotics and biological mad science stuffed in her skull.

Also going to say 'No' to any crowd manipulation skills. Sarah didn't NEED to force people to become 'yes men' or blind followers, thank you very much!

Umm… {Reliable Invention: -200cp, Scientist -100cp} seemed worth it as it would hopefully act as trouble shooting for future schematic modification, although not much of her work was unreliable to begin with.

That was what testing was for… Although, hopefully this would help make better products. Better modifications to existing plans... Not just an ability to force reality to ACCEPT bad crap as 'good'. It wasn't clear either way from the wording. Hmm.

The {Hotwiring: -200cp, Scientist -100cp} certainly implied it was reality fuckery, as that one implied Sarah could rewire a toaster into a 3D image-onto-bread printer with some tinkering. Yeah, this didn't seem to be science, more localized reality warping. Still useful, but more limited based on which Jump she was on.

Yeah, {Unknown Resources: -600cp, Scientist -300cp} was pretty much straight up magic. Global information acquisition, with only what is wished to be known, even if only on a remote system or in fucking thumbdrives or on PAPER, and it was all accessible from any computer terminal. Just, magic or plot powered bullshit.

Hell, even if you GAVE a person all the needed data and the EXACT keywords needed, it would take FOREVER to find it in a massive unindexed heap of mess like that. So this was clearly more a technomage deal more than actually being a scientist, really.

It would be worth grabbing, but it wouldn't make her creations better. And unless it was being used or somehow connected to Sarah directly, it won't necessarily work depending on the Jump. And might fail when she moves on to the NEXT Jump.

Sigh, if you want to be scientific magic then commit! Give her remote machine access or temporary electronic summoning or something, not an ability tied to her having a computer in her pocket. That seemed a bit lame.

Like, sure. Her ECHO System WAS both her user interface AND her personal computer, and Adam had modified it whenever bored or inspired over their journey… But that was such a bummer! Embrace the magic, Kim Possible! Sigh.

So she would have spent either 350cp (Leaving 150cp and the global google search behind) or, if she wanted to afford the magic info query ability? She'd spend all points mostly with only 50cp to spare and she would miss out on the odd {Hotwiring: -200cp, Scientist -100cp} skill to force hardware to do odd things with sorcerous software.

If she was going to go for skipping the instant search thing, Sarah would also be able to give up the sickly appearance drawback, so either way? That was about 50cp to work with. On something.

Not on much though. Let's see, 50cp could be spent on… Uh. {Holo-Jumper: 100cp, Scientist -50cp}? Basically magical holographic emitter drones. Flying disks that Adam or an AI could operate, which was… Well, Sarah could build something like that NOW, for free.

A communication device? Ha! Grappling hook? She could fly AND teleport. And make portals now. Super glue grenade? Who the hell was stupid enough to spend money on a CONSUMABLE gadget!? Sheesh!

The other budget items were the emotional manipulation device, which seemed morally questionable and ethically dubious. And when it came to reprogramming people into your servants, slaves, or family members? Rick and Morty had that covered. VERY covered.

Yeah, that wasn't super tempting. Most of those options would just make life more convenient… Like very, VERY slightly more convenient. Can't hack it? She could just [[Harvest]] the mess and have Adam 'Research' it to death.

And as for the magic or reality warping effects? Meh. Been there, done that.

And while it was mildly humorous to show up to a college somewhere and be a super sexual exhibitionist to make crowds of people go through embarrassment and blue screen some hormonal minds… Kim Possible was still in high school. Her whole story, according to Adam, happened when she was 15 or something.

So being FORCED to take off her pants in front of underage near-adults? Nah. And it would get old fast ANYWAY as well as emotionally confusing for the various surprise audiences. Though, if she gave up on the Super Google power… She COULD get rid of the pantsing requirement? And just look near death all the time?

Yeah, still not worth all that mess AND being forced to go back to high school.

On the other hand, the Dragonball Xenoverse Document and attached meta-data was just confusing. "Adam, why is this so.. Fragmented?"

He sighed. <<Dragonball Xenoverse is about two villains messing with time, I think… Or they are heroes? Anti-heros? Fixing the timeline? Anyway, even if it WAS close to the original source material it wouldn't matter much. Lots of 'revisiting' famous battles in the Dragon Ball universes and ensuring certain people win or lose or that certain side characters survive or die, lots of time shenanigans, and… Well, the reality is so warped I think some other Jumps turned it into a 'create your own fighter' multiplayer game? And a few 'pick your adventure' books, apparently.>>

Shit, she hated messing with time.

It was bad enough that some of these Jumps were running a relative timeline different from OTHER Jumps, and could theoretically reverse her actual age or cause her to age in a different direction than older or younger, and the whole mess of the Jump process going OUTSIDE of space and time and… Yeesh.

No, focus. "Give me a second."

Right, ignore that, and assume she can live with the drawbacks giving her +400cp. And now that she knew TIME TRAVEL was involved in this shit, taking away her ability to understand time seemed even MORE foolish, but… Let's give it a try.

And she got more and more horrified as she read further. "Half this mess just ensures I don't get shot when I show up to 'save the day' by punching everyone. Or give me cheats to make fights easier."

Adam hummed. <<Yep.>>

Her eye twitched. "Does {Let's fight again, Okay?: -200cp, Legendary Hero -100cp} literally brainwash people I beat up into being my friend!? The FUCK!?"

She eventually just shoved the data away. "It's a Jump where I can literally become a Goddess and the best stuff I can get that doesn't make me feel dirty in my soul is the god damn purchasable items."

Like seriously, a machine that can make mundane versions of any food she'd ever encountered? For free, ready to eat on a plate? The {Saiyan-Ready Rations: -200cp, (1 of 2 Discount Options) -100cp} was VERY tempting indeed! Saiyans could out eat a dozen people easily!

He sighed. <<Yeah, the backgrounds are stupid powerful and free and those items WERE tempting… But there is a REASON I want to avoid it.>> Adam pulled up a chart. <<It's all based on fights from the original Dragonball Series… And look at this guy.>>

Sarah blinked at the photo of a kid. "Alright?"

Adam hummed. <<This is Goku. His power level, at this age of about eleven, is 10. His people, the Saiyan race, were pretty much owned and controlled by ANOTHER far more powerful race entirely. THAT group of jerks sent the boy to Earth to kill everything and everyone when the local full moon rose, with the goals to sell the scraps left over as a neat planet for future customers to buy.>>

She admitted he was fairly cute for a doomsday weapon. "Daww, look at his wittle tail! And what's a power level?"

Adam sent a mental shrug. <<Basically? A measurement of the conceptual physical energies generated by a living being. Their 'physical might', which can be channeled into body enhancement, life extension, energy attacks, flight, reality warping, etc.>>

Sarah poked the image. "Is 10 a lot?"

He hummed. <<Normal people have less than one, and some powerful martial artists have a power level around like 10 to 20 or so. With elites ranging from 40 all the way up to like… 800? Maybe? When Goku was sent to earth, he was sort of used like a disposable shock trooper.>>

An image of a MASSIVE monkey showed up. No, it was an ape? <<When his species see the full moon, they unleash this bigger form of a combat monster. Goku's power level jumps up to around 100 or so, but more importantly? The Saiyan Ape form is durable as hell, regenerates, and causes mass damage. Sure, there were people on Earth who could knock him around… but kill him? Stop him? You'd need to know about his people's tail weakness AND get a bit lucky.>>

She whistled. "And EVERY Saiyan baby can do this!?"

He nodded. <<I did say he was a disposable weapon. No one even bothered to follow up his 'mission' for literal years later, he just didn't matter. Or his paperwork got lost. ANYWAY!>>

A new image showed up, a man covered in muscles and an easy going smile. <<Here is that same boy when he reached 23 years old.>>

Sarah blinked. "Damn. That guy's ripped as HELL!"

Adam pulled up a chart. <<After training for 11 years or so, he had gone from a power level of 10 to above 3,000,000. With a special 'Super Saiyan Mode' that bumped it up to 150,000,000 or more, although that really stressed his body and was hard to endure. It was around this time that he learned how to force reality to let him teleport by using his raw power to just convince all of existence that he was already somewhere else.>>

She just froze. "I'm sorry, what? He… He did what!?"

He hummed. <<Yeah, he was TRYING to learn a teleportation trick, but he actually just forced all of his dimensions to make small mistakes instead. Anyway, this was just the basic level of him reaching Super Saiyan. The other, more powerful super forms, like the second and third grade variants, are WAY stronger, not to mention the versions with God energy or… You get the point.>>

A flicker of an image showed up. <<And don't get me STARTED about the shit that happened when he hit 35 and had to fight an evil version of himself. And ALL Saiyans, even if they DON'T train, can easily live to be 200 years old. Without using any ki to extend their lifespan, which is super easy to do. Even without training, just living longer makes them grow slowly in power.>>

Sarah saw something… A golden creature fighting?

Adam sighed. <<That guy eventually reached insane power levels, over 1,500,000,000 or something? They stopped checking eventually, because even levels over 9,000 or so could make poorly made electronics explode trying to understand the energies involved.>>

He glared at the data. <<And even AFTER reaching levels of power where many Gods freaked out just being near the dude, he STILL got into fights where he lost or got beat down. ALL. THE. TIME.>>

Sarah gulped. "Ah. I see."

Right! "So tell me more about this awesome Final Fantasy 8 Jump! Bring up the Document!"

Hmm. "And will Gaia be there?"

Adam hummed. <<No, the Final Fantasy series each focus on worlds that are conceptually connected, that may share key features or icons or symbols, but most of the time they are in different ages or realities. Sometimes alternate versions of how reality could turn out. I don't even think this place has Materia, or even raw mako in the ground.>>

Huh. Welp, she had 600cp to spend! Let's see what we're working with!

No need to roll for location, she had that drawback putting her on a monster covered moon. Her new body would be… 16? Meh, she could work with that. As for backgrounds?

{Sorceress: -300cp} [Women empowered with fragments from the Great Hyne, the creator of humanity exiled by its creations. Wielders of True Magic, when a Sorceress is in full control of her powers she is one of the strongest beings on the planet. Feared for their power and actions taken by past Sorceresses, many are treated terribly and become twisted from neglect and abuse. Magic can cause the user to have odd traits, body parts, and marks, which will show when using her power. If male, purchasing this is a free gender swap.]

Oh. Oh yes! "Gonna go with Sorceress. Like, who WOULDN'T go for Sorceress!? What's with this 'nobody, fighter for nation, fighter for company, teacher, researcher, WINNER' option choice list anyway!?"

Adam chuckled. <<Going to complain about it?>>

Fuck no! This was WORTH -300cp! And it seemed that she would still have her silver hair and eyes, but her new 'Sorceress Trait' was an awesome tattoo network of softly glowing silver lines marking her skin and some sort of ghostly and sharp silver translucent bone wings showing from behind.

Sweet! And yeah, super evil looking, but damn!

Right, let's spend the rest wisely. First, the free stuff! And obviously the discounted options too.

{Limit Break: 0cp} [When you're at the end of your stamina and are ready to collapse in battle, you can activate a special move called a Limit Break. Utilizing true magic, which normal humans can only perform in this situation, you unleash a devastating attack of your own style and choosing! Flying sword or martial arts combos, magical spells, supernaturally accurate shots, huge energy beams, a combination of any of these, and more are just examples of what can be done with a Limit Break. Sorceresses are exempt from the need for a Limit Break to use their true magic, and magic from outside of this setting is also free from this restriction.]

Damn. Like… Damn! Oh yeah, being a Sorceress was just AWESOME! "Can I hook [[Limit Break]] into my [[Phase Pierce]] somehow?"

Adam poked a few things. <<How about this?>> An illusion popped up. <<I can funnel the powerup into slowing down time, increasing concentration, activating [[Phase Pierce]], and selecting your favorite sniper rifle which will generate an empowered energy construct copy to fire with. Would that do it??>>

Oh. Oh yes. "That. ALL of that. That looks so cool!" Ooh! "Can I make it fire Mr. McStabberson? Or change which gun it clones?"

Adam shifted the display. <<No to the bone spike bullets, not unless the sniper is custom designed to use Mr. McStabberson as ammo beforehand. But you should be able to pre-select which sniper gets cloned from your interface after we land in the Jump.>>

Oh this was going to rock! Right, focus.

{Intimidating: -100cp, Sorceress -50cp}, nah. Her raw power would probably cover that for free, waste of a purchase really. And the idiots that WOULDN'T be intimidated from her abilities were dumb enough to ignore most supernatural forces too, probably.

As for {Bewitching: -200cp, Sorceress -100cp}? Her Bad Ass perk ensured she would be the best Sorceress she could genetically be, and uh.

Sarah glanced at the theoretical image of her new silver marked body and her demonic bone wings.

Yeah, she was hot enough already. Damn, her girlfriends were going to love this!

Oh, HERE we go! {True Magic: Restricted Sorceress 0cp}! Uh. But it was long. Way too long. "Adam? Fix up the 'True Magic' wording for me?'

He grinned. <<Sure, but it won't help much. You can tell this Jump really loves that background from how chatty it gets. One second.>>

The document shifted:

{True Magic: Sorceress Restricted 0cp} [Everyone else in the world can only draw, store, and cast para-magic, the echoes of true power long lost. Yet every Sorceress not only can formulate True Magic, they each specialize in one field in particular. Choose any one element or other aspect of reality to focus your magic around. This doesn't forbid other magic, but includes your most powerful magic and conceptually enhances you. Examples include ice, force (non-elemental magic), space, and time. In addition, all Sorceresses are capable of; Telekinesis, Teleportation within a short range, Telepathy, Mind Control, Mental Possession. Animating Objects, Creating Barriers, Selective Material Phasing, Crafting Illusions, and Enhanced Strength and Endurance. Requires time and practice to master.]

Sarah blinked. "What. The. Fuck."

Adam laughed! <<I know! And it isn't mako or potential energy not yet manifested, it seems to be an internal 'reality adjustment' energy. Basically calling it mana for convenience and so you won't mix it up with mako, but in addition to however much power we got to work with from buying this? You WILL be able to convert mako into fuel for this new skill, and vice versa.>>

Damn. Like… Like damn. "This is like SUPER DUPER powerful. Holy shit."

It took a moment to calm down, really. "Uh. I'm going with Space magic. I use it all the time, I'm pretty sure [[Phase Pierce]] uses some of it to work, and it synergizes with portals and stuff. And I need it for my inventory, and my orbs that are connected to expanded spaces and… Yeah. Let's do the Space conceptual enhancement."

Adam hummed. <<Good, because I think the woman trying to take over reality is focused on Time or something similar, so going with a Space theme should really help you out.>>

Wait. "What?"

He waved it off mentally. <<Shh, I'm not even sure she's wrong to do so. There is so much fighting there that most of the economy is based off of combat now, and mercenary groups and whatnot. I mean, yeah the leadership don't like losing power to one lady from an abused background taking everything over, but they don't like elections or regime changes at the best of times anyway! Plus, this is a REALLY off the rails Jump, we can't judge shit till we get there.>>

Sarah tried to glare him into talking.

It wasn't very effective. "Fine."

Still, -300cp was WELL spent in her books, Sorceress was overpowered as HELL. That left 300cp to work with though, let's do this!

As she skipped down the list she did pause. "Uh… Would {Amnesia-Proof: 600cp, SeeD -300cp} prevent Drawbacks from working but still give me the points?"

Not that she could afford it, no way in HELL would she give up super duper True Magic bullshit.

He chuckled. <<No, but you have the Warehouse. We basically have that effect already thanks to the mental defenses, extra mind units and data units, and so forth.>>

Well, fair enough. She hummed as she went down the list.

{Actualization: -600cp, Sorceress -300cp} [Target a mind and you can crystallize their fears, beliefs and imagination into their image of a very powerful spirit or creature. This being works like a Guardian Force made flesh, far stronger than GFs usually are. It can exist indefinitely with no upkeep cost, fully capable of independent thought and completely under your control. If the targeted source is awed or frightened by this manifestation, they steadily empower it. You may physically Junction with it to temporarily become a monstrous form which increases the GF's powers and your magic. You gain understanding of this new body and skills, but can only have one of these creatures active at a time.]

Uh. Damn. Just. "Holy crap." That was BEYOND overpowered.

Adam checked her current focus. <<Ah, heads up on that one: Since you can't have companions or pets or whatever, I'll have to modify it to being a fusion with Shiva instead of someone's inner fears or clones of themselves or whatever. Otherwise we would have Sarah clones in all kinds of bodies EVERYWHERE and it would get very silly.>>

Was it wrong that she felt better knowing it was less unlimited now? "Not sure I'm going to take it really, it is neat but… I don't really need it? And I can just summon Shiva anyway, so this is really just a -300cp option to turn into a hybrid creature that's' half ice goddess and half demonic witch angel thing.

Which, again, would be hot… But not really super useful.

Still, freaking neat! "This Jump REALLY likes Sorcerers, doesn't it?"

Adam snorted. <<Damn right it does. Half the other big spending options just give the other Backgrounds a few magic options or try to make your own.>>

Oh really?

Sarah went back up to check. Hmm.

Here it was! {Sufficiently Analyzed Magic: -600, Scientist -300cp}! Too expensive with her Background option, but interesting. Still, being able to make yourself a pseudo-Sorceress didn't really measure up to conceptual enhancement and the laundry list of tacked on bonuses.

Idly she went back over the ability list again.

{Certified Scientist: -100cp, Scientist 0cp} would let her get paperwork showing off how awesome she was in a field, plus related background information in fields normal people would have to study to get that far. Combat training wasn't interesting enough, nor magically knowing the rules, or having charisma perks.

An animal companion through {Combo-Dog: -200cp, Drop-In -100cp} was out the window sadly. Unless Shiva was into pet play? No, that would go kinky fast. And then nothing would get done. Nothing not kinky. Well, not TOO kinky...

Right, definitely summoning Shiva as soon as they hit the moon.

Back on topic!

{Mad Researcher: -200cp, Scientist -100cp} was (again) a HARD no. Mad didn't just mean 'awesome', it also meant turning yourself into a pickle. Or an onion, potato, radish… Rick had an odd amount of variation when it came to certain random decisions he made in his life.

She already had mind control, so no need to buy it. She didn't need a fan club, no one needed a fan club… Oh god, did she ALREADY HAVE a fan club!?

No, don't look it up. Adam is a troll, he would create fake evidence if she tried. And that was the argument she was going to stick to, despite any evidence to the contrary! Problem solved!

Denial aside, {Teaching Prodigy: 400cp, Instructor -200cp} might be worth it. Adam knew she had to teach people at random times, and some students did not want to learn. Ever. Just… slightly too expensive.

Damn 600cp Drawback cap to keep the Jump stable.

Again she sighed as she glanced at the out of reach option.

{Teaching Prodigy: 400cp, Instructor -200cp} [You're a teaching genius, capable of getting even the densest student to learn something, and theoretically even get straight A's! There's almost nothing you know that you can't teach, as long as it's knowledge based. Math, science, history, combat, magic, FTL space travel engineering designs, as long as it simply relies on knowing your stuff? You've perfected a method of expressing it to your students. You can improve a student's potential despite restrictions caused by intelligence or injury.]

Like, damn. That was near worth coming here for that skill alone, considering how teaching people forced one to understand their subjects VERY well, and Adam would be able to refine the Warehouse's collected information using what Sarah learned in the process.

Sometimes, just knowing the limits of what you understood was good enough to fix problems… And since Sarah would only be able to explain what she understood to others? She could have Adam detect big gaps in her information base that needed to be filled, and then get her to do research on it!

But still, awesome or not, unlimited power and magic was better.

Sigh.

Right, the cheap stuff didn't appeal and everything else was out of pocket range. There was 300cp to spend, what ya got Items and Equipment?

Free playing cards. Woo. Still, six free cards in a {Triple Triad Deck: 0cp} was… something? And there was a GF skill where your mind summon could convert monsters into Triple Triad cards, and another skill that converted cards into rare items… Maybe? Adam's notes were vague on the topic.

No idea how that would work either. Some sort of sympathetic magic resonance or something? Meh.

Some money, {Gil: -50cp}, nah. Hoverboard, Uniform, Dress? Nah. Oh, here we go! "Hey Adam, set my {Weapon: -100cp, First? 0cp} to Mr. McStabberson, alright?"

She ignored his confirmation. A personal Chocobo? Can't have pets/rides/friends/lovers coming along. Motorcycle or Car? Nah. Not for choice points, that was WAY too expensive. An assault boat? Ha!

After the tank that can go crazy (Why!?) everything else was above the pay rate. Hmm. "Hey, can I pick an ability more than once?"

Adam blinked. <<I mean, if you can afford it?>>

For a moment she paused.

She COULD get rid of a drawback or two… And that would be the logical, sane choice. It really, really would be, no question. No doubt.

On the other hand? Meh! Sanity is for losers!

Sarah grinned! Right, let's do this!

Jump: Final Fantasy 8.

Location:
Moon. Age: 16.

{Amnesiac: +100cp} [In your childhood, you Junctioned the GF Shiva to yourself. You do not remember anything in your life that happened more than five years ago including any events before this jump, and you can not unequip her either. This effect is persistent for Jump duration: your memories will slowly erode, leaving only five years of memory to go on.]

{Witch Hunt: +200cp} [Burn the witch. It's something you'll hear quite often during your stay here, because you're widely known as and feared as an evil Sorceress. While the big players might not spend any effort going after you unless you do something threatening, they know of you, and are waiting for the moment when they're paid to assassinate you or when you do something that threatens their power. Townsfolk, on the other hand, will regularly attempt to run you out, chase you with guns, pitchforks, or any other weapon they have in hand to protect their hides. No doubt that will do it.]

{Lunar Cry: +300cp} [You're on the moon! At least it has a breathable atmosphere, but that's where the good news ends. The bad news is that the moon is completely coated in horrifyingly powerful monsters, enough that when they gather in one place? They overcome the satellite's gravity and descend to the planet below. This event is called a Lunar Cry, and it can blast a hole through a continent and is the source of all the monsters on the planet. It's also (theoretically) your only ticket off of the moon, but you'd have to survive being stuck inside a mass of deadly, hostile monsters.]

Your body is marked with the glowing silver of power, as bone white hair displays your journey while your silver eyes see beyond the here and now. Skeletal ghost wings grant the touch of the unknown.]

{Limit Break: 0cp} [When you're at the end of your stamina and are ready to collapse in battle, you can activate a special move called a Limit Break. Utilizing true magic, you unleash a devastating attack of your own style! By accelerating your cognitive rate and mental processing skills you seem to slow down time, and generate a magical clone of a powerful sniping weapon to smash a target or targets without concern for defenses, armor, spells, psionic diversions, or illusions. Has a significant range.]

{Certified Scientist: -100cp, Scientist 0cp} [You have a degree proving that you are a scientist of a particular field. With it comes all the knowledge and experience inherent in spending several years with your nose in the books, studying for the next big test. Selected field of hard science to be a specialist in, which comes with general experience in related fields: Physics.]

Yet every Sorceress not only can formulate True Magic, they each specialize in one field in particular. You are the very ideal of Space itself! This doesn't forbid other magic, but includes your most powerful magic and conceptually enhances you. All Sorceresses are also capable of; Telekinesis, Teleportation within a short range, Telepathy, Mind Control, Mental Possession. Animating Objects, Creating Barriers, Selective Material Phasing, Crafting Illusions, and Enhanced Strength and Endurance. Requires time and practice to master.]

{Triple Triad Deck: 0cp} [You receive six level 1 cards depicting common monsters used to play the most popular card game in the world, Triple Triad.]

She smirked! "Ha! Now THAT will not only help my robotic and biological databases, but hopefully let us skip a bunch of tests trying to find out how reality is different when we show up in the new Jump! Hopefully. Probably."

Would that have worked if she WAS a Scientist? Could she have gotten all the hard sciences for free? No, probably only the first one got the discounts. Still, something to keep in mind for the future.

Then her gaze caught on something.

Sarah just… Stared at the bottom of the list. "I know I shouldn't complain about free stuff, but what the hell is up with me getting six cards for a gambling game? Is it like… super important or something? Are the six cards special, or unique?"

Adam sent a mental shrug. <<Not really. Some... Well, lots of people like to play it I guess?>>

Huh. Well, at least she was ready to go!

Adam tried to stay calm. <<Sarah?>>

It wasn't working. <<Sweetie? Skele-baby? You there?>>

She was physically on the moon, as expected. Her body read as healthy, already enhanced to be conceptually related to S̷̴̵̡͞p̵̀͟͠a̷͡c̀͜e҉̨͡͡ and the 'best she could be' thanks to her Bad Ass perk. Her mind had no foreign magic, psionics, memories, spirits, concepts, poisons, organs, creatures…

Fuck, if she didn't respond after the last of these more esoteric scanners finished he was going to scrap this Avatar entirely and try and respawn an earlier model for Sarah to run on. They could always find out what was going wrong later, this needed fixing NOW!

~~~Broken Adventure~~~
Nowhere and nowhen, something doesn't happen a lot at one place. But at last, Ultimecia was finished. Or at least, destabilized.
Irvine was bloody and weary. "Is it over? Let's go! Let's go back to our time!"
Selphie just kept dragging him somewhere. "Shut up! Just calm down and think where we have to go."
Zell, the goof, was at least keeping watch. "Careful guys! Don't pick the wrong time!"
Quistis was always so practical for a teacher. "And whatever you do, don't fall into a time warp! Stay together!"
And poor Rinoa... "Time...place...who I wanna be with... I wanna go there! Where Squall and I promised. Squall!"
Well, at least this loop things would get better. She listened to her call. "Squall! Let's go home! Where are you!?"
Sarah chuckled. "H͜ear th̴a͝t̵, ͝lo̕ver bo̕y?̷ ̛You̶r͝ ͘spe̸ci͜a̴l ̛o̸ne ͡is͠ ̴c̴al̷li͡n͞g."
He ignored his own stab wound. "But… You're so hurt! Come with us, we can get you fixed, I'm sure!"
Heh. Injuries like this meant little, and it just made the next steps easier. "Tell the͘ ҉o͢t͡h͢e̢r̵s I'll͞ be͝ ̧a҉ròu͏nd.͡ ͡I'̡m ̧ju͡s̕t ̕going t̀ò tak͡e͡ ̢the̵ l͟o̶ng͠ w̡a͡y̶.҉"
Squall blinked. "What?"
Sarah grinned.
And Yeeted him off towards his loved ones. "See yơu ̵a͝ll ̢s̀oo͠n̷!"
His dopplering scream was hilarious! Even with the time bullshit, it was a near cartoonish 'AAAAaaaah!' Perfect!
Now, where would she used to be eventually? Oh right, that goddamn moon.
~~~Broken Adventure~~~

Sarah was very c͚̩̘̠̺͙̺̈́͆̓̂ö͖͔̪́͛ͪ̈̚ņ̗̣̖̥̱̠͆͒f̙̪̲̖u̜͙̫̗ͥͅs̓ḛ̦̫̘̮͔̎̅͂́̔d̨̻͈͙͓̰͇̥̾̂̂̾.̷͔͖̟ͭ͋̚

And she was finding this hilarious.

She lay back on her bone throne. "What the hell?"

Also, apparently, she had a bone throne. Not just a throne designed to look like it was made of bones, she could sense the proto-magic inside each of the tiny fragments and portions of powerful beasts used to mold this entire castle.

Also also, apparently she had a castle. On the moon.

A moon castle, if you will.

The fuck. "Adam?"

He sighed. <<Just… Just read the note you left yourself and don't tell me anything. Don't make any guesses. Don't try and be clever. We will just… ignore this mess.>>

That uh. That didn't sound good. Right, a note? Oh, here, on her spine supported monster skull side table. Sheesh, at least someone properly preserved these things and coated them in silver.

This could have been SO unhygienic.

Thankfully, it wasn't TOO long. "Let's see… 'Dear me! Time travel sucks and we hate it.'"

...Huh.

Glancing at the massive greeting chamber of her bone castle, she felt somehow she could agree with that. Right, the note. "Uh… 'To keep things simple I spent the last five years practicing our skills, killing monsters that would NOT leave me alone, and sending all our future junk and equipment into storage. And built the moon city, because it is fucking boring up here. Oh! And due to time travel bullshit, you don't have to do what I did to keep them existing...'"

Damn! Her head! Fuck time travel. "...Alright. Fine, whatever. Moving on! 'And you will get our memories added to the collective when you eventually come back to this Jump someday. Plus, SHE doesn't have any problems like this because Adam FIXED her temporal defense units because of the crap happening THIS time. Don't help him, he deserves to do it the hard way because he got distracted trying to make a Tonic designed to…'"

Sarah stared at it. "Adam?"

He seemed grumpy. <<I'm working on it! I could have SWORN I had gone over ALL the defensive units a long time ago! Especially the important ones like this, I don't know how the hell I missed issues like these ones. Stupid pre/after Jump collision temporal memory duplication issues.>>

She just looked at the paper. "Adam, did you try to make a Tonic to turn people and creatures into Muppets?"

The connection went silent. <<Uh. Nooooo?>>

...Uh huh. "Adam."

His flustered emotions flooded the line. <<I love the Muppet Christmas Carol, alright!? And it didn't work out anyway, I needed to scan examples from a related Jump because making living things using cloth and stuff made some really freaky looking gem lobsters when I tested it. And some exploded into stuffing and fluff, which certainly didn't seem right.>>

God damn it, Adam. "Get back to work fixing my defenses. Please."

Right, so… Priorities.

"[[Summon: Shiva.]]"

A spire of ice thrust from the ground! "By your power and mine, I am a hot ice elf goddess!"

And she did a pose.

Daww! "Shiva, you are like… The best summon ever."

She grinned! "You know it baby!"

And paused.

Awkward silence.

Shiva looked at her limbs. "Why do I look like an even slutier, mostly nude mermaid?"

Oh, right. "Well, the last Jump was really messed up so it was too risky to leave a you behind and THIS Jump had some options to enhance you a lot and…"

Shiva and Sarah blinked as an unnoticed pamphlet knocked loose by the ice woman's summoning fluttered down between them.

The goddess picked it up. "'Guardian GF's and you: Why Ifrit is an asshole and how to handle being a hot mermaid with a sexually pent up owner.' Huh."

This was the other her's fault, wasn't it?

"Oh! There are diagrams! And a list of our favorite 'safe words'!"

God DAMN IT, time travel!

~~~Broken Adventure~~~
Hours later, and in a VERY comfortable bedroom, Sarah admitted that maybe time travel wasn't inherently awful. That the pamphlet had some love notes from both her future self AND a few dozen Elizabeths had also changed her mind. Though the sex suggestions had been a bit much.
Seriously, her girlfriend army was in another freaking Jump entirely and she STILL got her all flustered! Best relationship ever!
Oh, and she should probably do something about the local magical defenses empowered by overly powerful monster corpses that were automatically harvesting more resources through a modified GF ability called [[Devour]]...
But that seemed like a future self problem, not a good enough reason to get out of bed and stop snuggling her sexy aquatic ice mermaid version of her other personality.
~~~Broken Adventure~~~

Adam had 'Research' go over the changes. Again.

So, as he had been told, he had missed something small but important.

Before now, none of the defenses cared about issues or benefits or whatever that came from FUTURE or PAST Sarahs. Also, some of his 'improvements' that should have thrown out errors and warnings and stuff were accidentally so much more powerful and adaptable than expected… Well. When they got a massive amount of raw data and impossible timelines, they just shrugged and decided 'Meh, we can handle it!' and just… Sigh.

Adam added a new 'Research' topic, one only designed to construct a high level overview of existing units and attempt to detect function duplication, gaps in defenses, gaps in gathering ability, and so on and so forth.

Some were known, of course. Hard not to, when the Warehouse had massive contextual 'scars' that prevented choice point collection or companions. But those were basically in 'casts' sort of, even if they couldn't be replaced or cut away. Not in any way Adam knew, at least. Not yet.

It was sort of like that mutilated magic police officer, Mad Eye Moody, from that Harry Potter series. It was a setting where magic could regrow flesh and bones and mess with teeth and stuff so easily but malicious magic got everything effed up when you tried to fix it.

Though Adam wasn't sure if that scar covered man had ever tried slicing off body parts at healthy sections and trying to regrow the mess from scratch… Or if the magicals would even accept such an idea, since using surgery or any other non-magical solution was very much a horrifying concept to their culture.

Whatever, the point was this new routine should prevent something like this from happening again. Hopefully. Until the next time they ran face first into a similar issue.

Sigh.

Adam checked that the REST of the Jump insertion went well.

The new mana generator and converter units worked well, and were building up reservoirs of the blue 'fluid'. Next to the golden CEE and the green mako, this blue mana really made her energy storage layer look all pretty and stuff.

And uh. The mako and mana seemed to be… Enhancing each other? Resonating certainly. Oh… Now the CEE was reacting too. Somehow the potential magic and origin magic was influencing the psionic liquid?

...It was probably fine.

The FF8 ability layer also had some very developed mind units hooked up to Sarah's new abilities thanks to cheaty updates from the recent merge. So much for 'lots of practice', his Jumper already cheated like a fiend when it came to training thanks to every skill having a mind unit testing stuff and remembering optimized configurations and modified variations.

The new memory units and current 'mind' also got around the main 'Remember only 5 years' Drawback by storing locally the last four years of data and creating 'unrelated memory logs' of the year about to undergo degradation.

So now Sarah remembered the last five years of her Jump adventure AND five years of hard core training and building a moon capital city. Not to mention creating the new para-magic rune system that can automatically apply a pseudo-GF skill on selected targets.

Because of COURSE Sarah would research how the false magic system works here and build a new branch of magical science to get out of daily 'kill the army of monster' chores.

Speaking of how magic worked here, it was a bit unusual.

Para-magic was basically a system of using fragments of fragments of that one creator being, Great Hyne, who fled long ago.

When that thing was attacked and driven off by the powerful monsters, local creatures and species HERE, its fragments and wounded energies saturated the lands and nearby planets and laws and reality concepts and so on and so forth.

Anyway, this fragmented energy naturally gathered in certain places and people, like the Sorceresses. Eventually, the collected pools of energy were researched heavily by the local smarty pants, Dr. Odine, who thankfully WASN'T The cause of all problems this time!

Not a moral guy mind you, much more a mad science dude really… But he was still better than that ass Hojo at least. And wasn't torturing a god like being for no good reason and injecting her fractured mind into the planet while busy making mutant clone babies and… God damn it, Hojo.

Back on point, Dr. Odine found that these energy pools had an aura or field that could be gathered. Collected, concentrated, and studied!

Some forms of this [[Drawn]] para-magic was so potent it could even regenerate and become stable with some minor effort. Able to form a sort of echo of the more powerful beings out there, near-psionic creations called Guardian Forces.

Other energies were barely strong enough to change the local area. Calling fire or lightning or whatever.

However, thanks to Dr. Odine's research? Humanity developed the Junctioning system, using Guardian Forces to let humans [[Draw]] radiated aura from monsters and places and powerful foes, convert it into usable or equipable para-magic, and cast it in battle or directly enhance their own bodies beyond the limits of training or science!

True, there were issues. Some GF's could only enhance some aspects of their wielder, or granted limited special abilities that others could not. And the mental connection caused issues with memory retention and sometimes other more significant concerns…

But overall it brought magic to the world, to a degree.

Mostly.

Para-magic still needed to be gathered, and only a limited amount could be stored per Junctioning System. Plus, if you used some of the magic that was stored away enhancing yourself then that enhancement would obviously get weaker as you used up the stuff empowering it… But it was still world changing.

For most people, it was beyond imagination! Organizations and groups would even build in combat areas where monster populations would be encouraged, so that soldiers and mercenaries and SeeDs could easily find the right auras to get useful magic like healing or status recovery or basic combat power.

Hell, some areas of the world were protected to ensure the creatures got stronger! Conservation was sort of connected to ranching, as more powerful auras granted stronger para-magic for better fighters.

Sarah on the other hand had a slowly generating source of the good stuff!

The raw energies that generated the aura fields that the Junctioned GF's could [[Draw]] from! So, technically, Adam just needed her to find examples of each aura out there. Places and monsters and foes who had the right energy fields for examples would let Sarah duplicate that pattern and apply some of her mana to it, and BAM!

Infinite para-magic of that type.

Eventually.

For now, Adam was ripping appart the Junctioning system equipment Sarah had on hand (damn time travel) to see if 'Research' could help modify the stupid thing.

Thankfully the Drawback enforcing Shiva's Junctioning to Sarah was on a deeper level, considering Shiva was part of the Warehouse and Sarah's Avatar directly already… So there were no problems getting rid of this junk and making something better.

He would probably integrate it directly into her ECHO system too, because it was a good enough foundation to work with and was more integrated into the Warehouse systems already.

Right, let's see what we are dealing with here!

[[Harvest.]]

Hmm. Built in settings to allow the 16 currently studied Guardian Forces to be 'Junctioned' to a person. But there was notes in the code of at least four more unsuccessful attempts at defining OTHER GFs, ones that didn't quite work right... Must be a work in progress.

Anyway, the GF would act as a magical bridge, connecting the user to the GF via mind and magic (Which is where the memory issue came in) and then using the framework of the GF itself to try and empower the concepts of the host further.

Basically, you sort of merged magically with your GF to a degree. The more they are summoned, as you two work together, the more 'compatibility' builds… Which means your GF would do more damage, be called forth at a faster speed, and some subtle boosts to your own body get increased as well.

Fighting with a connection to a GF and a focus can unlock various skills and abilities in the process, at the cost of a deeper connection and a greater risk of mental degradation depending on how many you Junction and how high you push your compatibility.

It explained the whole {Actualization: -600cp, Sorceress -300cp} option, as it was basically just making a Guardian Force now that Adam knew more about the process. A magical framework, using the personality and memories of a host or long lost echo of communal beliefs, memories, or connections to otherworldly entities… And one you could combine with, become more compatible with, albeit with a hell of a drawback cost.

It was a bit ironic the Junction system was a mechanical way to gather magic, reinforce it enough to turn yourself into a pseudo-Avatar for the new framework, and use less cohesive 'magic' to support and enhance the GF's gifted benefits.

Considering Sarah was nearly doing it backwards. Or all at once? It felt complicated.

SHE was the Avatar, and the magical framework, and the GF, and the source of power, and the creator of the auras used to shape that power, and... Uh.

Right, think about that never.

So! Let's modify this junk!

First, the material. This unit, as it will be installed here in the Warehouse directly for Sarah's Avatar to work with, will be formed entirely out of copper with uncertainty patterned networks filled with (Soon to be) solidified mako.

No reason NOT to use raw potential enhanced magical metal to make this bitch!

Next, the original Junctioning system could only recognize 32 types of para-magic, or aura shaped magic charges. And it could only safely store 100 units of each type. Even though the base level of [[Fire]], [[Fira]], and [[Firaga]] were drastically different as they increased in power level, it was easier to just limit EVERYTHING at 100 max instead of risking the more powerful stuff overwhelming the user when equipped to enhance a personal stat.

Not an issue with Sarah though.

So, go ahead and copy and paste the existing 32 aura patterns for easy future use and to let Sarah [[Draw]] units of those patterns like everyone else. And whip up a more robust 'discover new aura' ability for unknown patterns.

A basic version of para-magic discovery was already in this mess, as well as a GF detection sensing filter that would mark foes or creatures or monsters with known patterns for duplication.

But Sarah shouldn't have to put up with tiny [[Draw]] list options that were filled with '???' all the time. Or random names with no explanations when a GF is detected.

So instead, a detection module over here and some data feeds for 'Research' to hook into. MUCH better!

After all, the monster or foe might have dozens of magic patterns, but only three or four strong enough for this mass produced Junction system to detect. The default choice seemed to be to ignore stuff below this threshold over here. Which made sense for normal people.

Because the amount of units one could [{Draw]] from a foe could vary based on how high the user's GF compatibility with that Aura was (Their 'Magic' stat, basically), the level of power difference between the two fighters involved, and how resistant the target was from magic attacks in the first place.

Fighting something powerful? They could resist you draining their ambient aura, drastically slowing the [[Draw]] process to lots of failures and only 1 or 2 units per attempt.

Is the pattern super complex? Hell, if it is a GF that the system doesn't recognize it won't even try! And for the more powerful magic like [[Ultima]], getting a couple per [[Draw]] was pretty damn impressive.

Not an issue for Sarah.

She just needs the pattern, not the energy supporting the pattern as well… Adam's Jumper could easily enough use [[Scan]] on a foe and then let her mana start building up her own personal stockpile to work with.

Why even bother getting rid of the hard coded 9 unit [[Draw]] cap when Sarah can just have [[Scan]] get the job done and go take a nap or something? Much better, although she will have to find a creature for Adam to examine first since only [[Draw]] was hard coded into this stupid device by default.

Sure, it was for a good reason. Those limits ensured no one accidentally got locked into a [[Draw]] loop and suddenly exploded or something. Or started drawing in magic that was actively equipped to their Strength or something and hit a number of units way above 100 that caused muscle explosion or whatever.

But Sarah had different requirements from other users anyway.

Shift the design a little, assign some mind units to actively determine what para-magic storage limits she can easily handle, ensure those mind units are networked into a hive mind so they don't accidentally mess up the math when one form of para-magic is stronger than expected… Good.

Adam reviewed the new design.

Glowing blue with green tinted copper holding it together, the new unit had several components. This section would add storage units, one for each detected and [[Scanned]] magical aura found in the world.

As Sarah grew stronger, she would go from being able to hold 214 units of [[Fire]] to something silly like 532,000 or something. Maybe more? Sure it wasn't a nice round set of 100's, but on the other hand this redesigned system would ensure less mental damage to the user by limiting each para-magic unit storage capacity to an optimum level.

If a more normal person used it, sure you might not be able to carry about 100 [[Water]] now. Or [[Triple]] or whatever. But at least you can use your 38 [[Flare]] para-magic units without causing brain damage and memory loss as quickly!

Later 'Research' would look over [[Devour]] and see if it could improve [[Harvest]] with it, and eventually Sarah would have to go out and find something with [[Scan]] so Adam can make sure she can collect magic aura patterns without [[Harvesting]] everyone… But for now?

Let's see if Shiva can learn the other conceptual Junction abilities!

She had 'Str-J', 'Vit-J', and 'Spr-J' already, letting Sarah equip para-magic to strength, vitality (physical defense), and spirit (magic defense). It shouldn't be too hard to figure out some of the others. Maybe.

They didn't all make a lot of sense, which was a side effect of being a beyond norm enhancement really. For example, 'HP-J' or Hit Point Junction didn't actually make you more powerful or whatever. It gives you a sort of shield from all harm, an amount of soak damage that must be blasted away before your body gets actually injured enough to stop working right.

It hooks into your existence though, so when it runs out you collapse to the ground unless someone helps you regain it with [[Life]] or [[Full-Life]]. Which is still better than losing a limb or something, and MOST of the time an enemy or foe will actively ignore you as a non-threat when your HP runs out until everyone is down, so it gives you some wiggle room.

But still, that shit was weird.

Like, 'Mag-J' was straight forward enough. It boosted your ability to wield para-magic. No problem, brain handled it, we good! Same with 'Spd-J', you could pump power into that stat and increase your movement speed and processing power, just innately become faster and better controlled.

But then we ran into weird shit. 'Hit-J' would slightly warp causality to ensure you hit your target in the most optimum way to maximize impact. 'Eva-J' would force existence to help you more easily evade damage all together! Even stuff that hit an entire room!

And don't get Adam started with 'Luck-J'! That just fucked with reality in all kinds of odd ways. Not only did it mess with your hit chance unless it was 'maxed' out to the stupid artifical limit of 255, no idea what units the Junction system was using to measure THAT shit, but Luck could also arbitrarily cause 'Critical Hits' where damage would spike for no reason, flat out 'nope!' some attacks with impossible evasion, it was all nuts.

And it might maybe influence [[Draw]] unit levels when getting para-magic? Or not? And it seemed to slightly boost the chance of noticing 'good' things, like dropped money or undamaged organs to sell after fighting an opponent or monster…

Honestly it seemed like Dr. Odine just said 'Fuck it, call it Luck!' and moved on. Which felt like a good idea, so… Yeah. Sheesh.

Some of this stuff would probably have to wait until Sarah [[Scanned]] someone with a GF pattern of their own, Junctioned or not… But at least it was something to keep 'Research' busy.

Oh, and that was just the stat Junctioning options. A GF could let you hook paramagic up directly into your defensive or attacking aura formations. Like, either partially block, fully stop, or fucking ABSORB some types of magic. Or statuses.

It was in different areas of Sarah's conceptual makeup, as the areas that added or blocked status effects were different from the areas that handled attacking or blocking elemental damage, but Shiva already had maxed out her natural abilities due to time travel bullshit, so Adam had stuff to work with.

If nothing else, Sarah already was able to attach an elemental effect to her attacks or two elements to her defensive matrix. Although Adam couldn't wait until she [[Scanned]] a GF or found a teachable material that could get her 'Elem-Def-Jx4' so that a full four slots could ignore or absorb the more annoying elements entirely!

After all, why bother defending if you can make your foe heal you up with their best shots?

Oh, and some of these documented status effect options REALLY made Adam drool over the 'St-Atk-J' potential.

Sure, you could only have a single para-magic hooked up to your attacks at a time… But what if you used [[Pain]]?

That right there would smack every enemy with [[Silence]], preventing them from casting spells, [[Darkness]] to cause them to miss nearly any physical attack, AND [[Poison]] to slowly grind them down. Or Sarah could go with something a bit more odd and just turn beat people into slumber with [[Sleep]]

Adam began checking each of the existing sections of the new ECHO Junctioning tab as he hummed and ensured that Shiva's Junctioned [[Ice Magic Refine]] ability was given lots of samples. At least by the time Sarah decides to get up for the data she should have a growing supply of [[Water]], [[Blizzard]], [[Blizzara]], and [[Blizzaga]] to work with.

Eventually she will find a GF or two to [[Scan]] and gain some more useful command abilities than this [[Doom]] option Shiva offers, something less edge lord and more useful. There had to be more choices than this! Let's dig into the code and find out about GF support abilities.

Wait, this old Junction system could only handle two GF passive abilities at a time without getting a hold of a GF with 'Ability x3' or 'Ability x4'!? And active commands were limited to four maximum, with the first locked to attacking so you're forced to pick between [[Draw]], [[Magic]], [[Item]], or [[GF]] which would basically summon Shiva to kick ass!?

That was bullshit! He could probably fix that. Hell, THEY could probably fix that! Lazy design, that's what it was. Hell, it only made [[Attack]] a command so the stupid system would know to apply the enhancement to the next action!

Well, whatever. Adam would fix all that eventually.

For now, let's see if he can just n͓̦̮ͅu̖̬̰͔d̘g̭̩͓e̬ Shiva forward a little bit!

~~~Broken Adventure~~~
Sarah mentally SLAMMED another alert away. "G'Damn it Adam, I'm trying to sleep!" It didn't hurt or anything but he just kept POKING shit!
Every few seconds her mental interface was shifting and something was going on with her energy and a feeling of [[Water]] and cold and something was warping her aura?
Shiva snuggled closer, her naturally chilled skin helping her relax like the cool side of the pillow. Mmm. "I'll make him mute your alerts for a bit, Sarah. Now shh."
She's like… The best ice goddess mermaid hug pillow person ever. Top ten, easily.
The room was quiet for a bit as Sarah tried to go to sleep. But even without the pinging and updates, it just wasn't that easy. "I miss them all."
The hug was cool and relaxing. "I know, but they sent that lovely note, right? Somehow got letters from your ninja family and those pauper people and the Smiths too?"
Because time travel is bullshit. But still...
Yeah. Yeah they did. "I still miss them though."
Her cool breath tickled her ear a bit. "That's fine. And it's alright to feel like that."
...Sometimes it was good enough just to hear somebody say that.
And tomorrow (whenever that was, this moon was NOT normal, magic fucked with it HARD and time acted really odd here) she would be a mature, responsible, not love and lust starved woman. She'd be strong and independent and 'I don`t need no sex harem' and all that.
But for now, cuddles and sleep.
Arc 3: No, I'm not Sailor Moon.
They say the moon is a curse.
Artificial and malicious, a construct formed with the dying fear and rage and vengeance of a long lost Sorceress, oh so long ago. A child with uncontrolled power hated and feared by family and friends, a little girl lost to unfair actions.
A feat of magic in the sky. One that consumed the tears of the hurt and maltreated children of the planet below, and that formed monsters of karma on its distant surface.
They say the moon was the kingdom of titans.
Beasts and creatures that radiated magic, that were fueled not by hunger or greed, but raw anger. So angry they couldn't focus enough to kill each other, so angry that they gathered to burn even brighter together.
They say the moon could cry.
That the tears of vengeance would smite the planet again, as the monsters of karma grew too angry, too gathered to stay tethered by gravity or reality or logic… And they would smite the land far away, on that morally corrupt planet.
That with a Lunar Cry, continents would be smashed with a flesh beam of concentrated anger and beast and bone. Those survivors would be hunted by the long forgotten hopes and dreams of the children and innocents struck down on this mortal world, now given teeth and claws and horns.
They say that the moon grew thick with rage, and blood and bones.
That after some time passed, a future Sorceress attempted to enhance this crisis. She wished to twist the crying moon into a death snarl, and bring an end to all and a death to everyone including herself.
Sacrificing her lonely future and her tortured past to strengthen the curse of the moon, to sharpen the edge of a feeble strike unknowingly given after a lost child cried alone, again, oh so long ago.
To give the unending swarm of hungry death stronger power, thicker skin, twisted muscle, and heavily dense and unbending bones.
They say that this is where things went wrong.
Born from pain and hurt and death, the Bone Sorceress looked upon the crying moon.
And she ḥ̭͚̥u̜n̲̼g͇̹̪̦e͖̳͎̜r͕̠e̖̥̩͍̹̟d͉̟͍̰̩.
Silver hair and eyes, with silver magic glowing over her perfect skin, she flew with wings of bone to the heavens to [[H̪̜̱̮̻͉a͉̦̭͈̼̻r̫̮v͇e͓̦̜͓s̫̪̳͙̩t̲̰͔]] such an unending bounty.
Each wing forged of unconnected bones, each fragment a ghost carved from Space itself, both here and there and nowhere. Her ghost wings of space clawed to the heavens, to consume the bounty on the moon.
A body that was more a silver network of boundaries that drew the edges of a contained universe, her flesh acted more as a portal to her true self than it did a weakness. She wore bones of S͎̦͓̰̣͖̣p̠͎a̰̬̖͍c̺͎e͈ as armor and held a spike of rage in her fist.
They say the Moon no longer cries. That a Lunar Kingdom was built from the bones of karma, coated in the metal forged from S͠͠p̡̀͜͝à̸̢͟ç͟͢͞ę̛́͢, and that on a throne built from her feasting waited the Bone Sorceress for some future meal.
They say to keep the children safe, to protect the innocent.
They say to feed the weak and protect the hungry.
For the tears they shed may rouse her h̹͈͎̦̦̺͍u͓n͍̥̻̘̫̰ge̞r͉̣ once more.
Some say these legends are false, that they are tales to keep children quiet after long and hard days of labor.
But I was here when the Galbadian Army invaded our beloved Timber years ago. When they took our town and our people fought and failed and died. When our innocents and our children cried.
I remember when the moon bled, the colors began to vanish, and the Silver Kingdom began to grow.
I remember Galbadian going quiet. Of the Second Sorceress War suddenly slowing, of Sorceress Adel nearly abandoning our town and the war front, and her frantic reinforcement of her own capital of Esthar.
Look child, to the moon hung with the stars.
See the Silver City, as the Lunar Kingdom grows ever more and the once blood red armies of endless rage now fall to unseen h̭̱͍͕u̲̱͈͈͖̺n̤̗̥͇̹̪g̬̣̤̲ͅe̱͈r͚̭̥̞. As the orb grows more silver patterns of danger.
They say that the forests of Timber sure have changed. That our history is gone, that our land is lost, that our children should cry and tears should fall.
But the Owls are still around. And we silently feed the weak and protect the hungry. Even if pointless, even if others should have said these things long before. The soldiers that still defy fate stand in our forest, in our woods, in false bravado and in displays of power over us...
But they are standing silent as well. As they should.
For it may be too late. She may h̺u̼̭̖̤͔̪ṇ͉͔̳͉g̻̩͖̲e̬̣̫̩̪̯̫r̝̰͇̙͚ once more.
~~~Broken Adventure~~~

Sarah snapped awake when her existence finished enhancement by S̺̰̟̏̿̏p̈̐ͮa͇cͫ̐ͯe̱̤ͪ͑̉͛.

It was instant, it was a shock, and yet her mind was lost to the changes.

A glance at her interface showed that Adam had already hidden her inventory screen. Why bother? She now knew the position and status of every item stored away in the Warehouse and her 'hammer space' perfectly, as well as the best settings such as air pressure, temperature, humidity levels, gravimetric force enhancement states, and so forth.

More than that, she no longer teleported. Or 'Stepped'. Or needed to make portals.

She could, easily, for basically no cost. At almost any range within one dimension, and with only trivial effort between two she knew of in the same Jump.

But now?

Now she knew why Space and Time were so closely linked.

She couldn't freeze Time. Or reverse it. Or accelerate it.

But she COULD do something similar or close to it with Space. In a way.

A moment and she was in the Warehouse. And beside the bed. And in the throne room. And the table she and Shiva sat at last night, even as the woman was eating a fairly wonderful looking breakfast. And outside. And in the air.

She was able to be in one place and many at the same time. To choose at any moment which was her, which was only an illusion, and which was nothing but her abilities sensing the location. To be visible or not, interacting with reality or observing it. To stretch reality or compress it.

It was almost too much.

A thought had a dozen of herself standing outside, all aiming the same gun even as she was physically in many places, all pointing at the distance roars of many beasts.

Sure, as the only person there, they all had to act the same way. They weren't independent, for they weren't they. They were only a single here, but in more than one spot at this same time.

But it was trivial now to have a single bullet hit the same target from a thousand angles.

Nearly impossible to block, because even as the damage occurs the object causing it was also on the other side of your shield and body too. If you deflected it, you had to also deflect the angle it didn't come from and the direction it COULDN'T come from as well.

Assuming of course, that she used a normal bullet. And not the more interesting snipers that shot swords or missiles or napalm or acid or whatnot.

But even such an idea was not enough to keep her attention, because reality was now more. Altered. Influenced by her connection to the idea of S̗̩̱̝̠̯p͈̭̟̳̱ͅac͔̻͖̳͙e̝, expanded.

If she wanted, if she focused… She could taste Şpa̧ce̛. See it. Smell it. Hear it. Touch it.

Any and every sense, all her detectors, any of her tools… If she could collect data from somewhere? Then she knew that S̀͟ṕ͢a̶c̷͜͏e as well.

Could manipulate it, move it, alter it.

Even if that data was from a film, or a video feed, or an audio clip… She could somehow K̝͉͓̙N͇̺͔O͚̥̻W̥ the S̘p̟̼͍̗a̦̜̦ͅc͙͎e̥̺̪ involved, no matter how much Time passed.

It was kind of freaking her out.

Uh. Right. "Hey, Adam? What's the plan for… All this?"

Without a thought she was somehow at the breakfast table with a shocked Shiva, who smacked her arm for coming out of nowhere and pouting at her smirk.

Adam grumbled. <<Nope. I am NOT fucking with time travel bullshit.>>

Sarah blinked before thanking Shiva for the omelette she handed over on a lovely bone plate. The orange juice was nice too, just chilled without ice in it. <Something wrong?>

He sent data. <<YOU do anything you want, I am going to be super passive here. I don't react well with reality at the best of times, and your 'fixed' temporal defense units are being enhanced and going through 'Research'... Until I get more data, I am not making ANY choices or suggestions for you on this Jump. I could make things go REALLY bad.>>

Huh. "So uh, that's a thing. Apparently." Right! "Shiva, this is an amazing omelette by the way. Thanks for making breakfast."

The ice woman smirked. "Well, since you didn't die I guess I can try one too."

...Uh. Sarah slowed. "I'm sorry?"

Shiva took a bite. "Mmm, it IS good! And yeah, no. I didn't make this. Any of it."

Sarah was staring at her fork of cheddar cheese omelette with onions, green peppers, and what seemed to be ham.

Still warm, delicious, and served up on the breakfast table.

In a castle with no obvious kitchen.

Or staff.

Or, for that matter, cows to milk, milk to turn into cheese, or vegetables or pigs to turn into ingredients. And, while she was thinking about it, no orange trees or oranges to make this lovely drink.

...It was a damn good omelette though. "Adam, did you make this food?"

Please say yes. Please, pretty please, it would make her feel MUCH better if you said yes.

<<Automated Reply: I'm sorry; the Warehouse you are attempting to contact is not going to fuck with time travel. Feel free to use your stuff though, because I'm going to be doing nothing fun but checking all your security and making potential upgrades to your stuff that you might like after this Jump is over. This is a recording.>>

Oh, fuck off! "Adam, tell me where this food came from or I am going to be very cross."

<<Automated Reply: I'm sorry; the Warehouse you are attempting to contact is not going to fuck with time travel. This is a recording.>>

She glared at the table. "Adam."

<<Automated Reply: If you knew how fucking terrifying time travel is you would be JOINING me in freaking out. This is a recording.>>

Sarah blinked. And shrugged. "If I was in danger of doing something wrong then I would have told myself to watch myself and make sure myself eventually wouldn't have done the situation in the future that would have been my past self's potential decision for future past activities."

Or something? Being connected to Space like this made everything feel a bit easier and safer than she initially expected. Sarah might not control or understand Time, but the concept was like a distant cousin now.

<<Automated Reply: ...You're messing with me, aren't you? This is a recording.>>

She grinned. "We would have been done by now if you weren't such a big baby about it."

And took another bite of the mystery meal. Because Shiva was clearly enjoying it and she had eaten some already anyway and it smelled AMAZING.

<<Automated Reply: {Sigh.} Fine. But only this once. Scan the table. Hell, scan everything. And check the optional missions to go find magic aura patterns for me to work with so we can get a local version of [[Scan]], and I will make it all better later. But from now on, I'm out, alright? Alright. This is a recording.>>

Huh. "Alright, though I still think you are being silly about all this." She compressed all the food into a single fork full and finished the meal, letting the concept of Space help her digest the compressed food automatically later while having super dense flavor smack her system.

Mmm! Hell yeah, going to do that again. "So just scan the table?"

<<Automated Reply: I'm sorry; the Warehouse you are attempting to contact is not going to fuck with time travel. This is a recording.>>

Scaredy cat. "Fine."

And she e͓̝͓̘̜x͚͚̫͉am͙͕̖̼̦i͙͕͍n̜e̼d͓̤̗̘ ͈̞th͖̖͚̯̩̯͚e͕̳͇̺̟̪̳ S̕͘p̵̕͠͞ac̷̀͢e̡͏ b̻̣e͔͍fo̜̼̩͚̙̝r͍̣e͚̲̫͕ ͚̠͍̞h͍̬̦̭̣e̳̞̣r̫.

And stared.

Holy shit. "Shiva? Sweetie?"

The ice goddess blinked. "Murphfle?"

A shift had the woman suddenly floating next to her, on some shifted floor twisted through Space forming the flat surface into a new chair. A chair NOT part of this castle, thank you very much! "Swallow before you talk. And uh. Can you return to my mind as my GF for now? Just… Just for a bit?"

Thankfully some of her concern must have bled through the connection because the woman vanished into her mind instantly. <What's up, Master?>

Sarah carefully stood up from the 'table'. And continued to examine it. And the room. And the castle. And the 'town'. And, this was the important bit, the miles of robotics and equipment BELOW all this. "So. Good Morning?"

A silver skull of coated bone rose up from the unfolding table. "Good morning, mistress. Was breakfast satisfactory today?"

Because Sarah had the background and knowledge of robotics, biology, chemistry, genetic mutilation and manipulation, and physics. And she had been stuck here on the moon for MORE than five years, since this castle and the surrounding structures were built BEFORE that time frame.

Outside of her memories. "It was very good. What is your name?"

The skull nodded. "We are the Lunar Kingdom. And we grow as we [[Devour]] the foes on the surface, and serve at your pleasure. Our communication hubs have no individual names."

Apparently, at some point in the past, Sarah had thought it would be hilarious to spend her time waiting up here testing out one specific Sorceress skill as a lovely 'surprise'.

So, from what she could see under this mess, she had combined the cutting edge of robotics with the horrific Rick and Morty styled clone mutation and adaptation skills, and used the endless hordes of incredibly powerful monsters up here as building supplies.

Then her other self decided to use [[Animating Objects]] to bring the whole self constructing and expanding factory of silver coated and carved bone robotic limbs and para-magic powered runes to life.

As a city.

Fuck. "Right. And where did the food come from?"

Because if this 'ham' was people or something, that would really ruin this lovely meal.

The skull tilted its head. "The plants come from automated farm harvests on the lower levels. We have a standing contract with several milk farms using the delivery portal system… And of course, use the same for the ranches since animals go… Odd… When raised on the moon."

Sarah blinked. "How do we pay for that?"

It pushed data to her systems. "Bartering, basically. Our vegetable quality is top notch, the cost is nearly free to produce thanks to our automation systems and equipment, the quantity is significant, and over the years the legend of the Lunar Kingdom is now quite well known. It is considered an honor to work with us, even if you are less than socially acceptable to the general public."

Oh. Well, the ham wasn't people, which was good! Although even eating monsters wouldn't actually be that bad. Something to look into later.

Also, while she was carefully ignoring the idea of her legend spreading on the planet below (And a few other things), she was CERTAINLY going to look up that delivery system later!

Still, those answers were good enough to keep eating this stuff. "Got anything for dessert?"

The silver boned skull on a long coated spine nodded. "Cinnamon Rolls twisted around chocolate cookie sticks, also called Chocolate Cinna-Sticks." A tray of tube-like pastries with a sugar frosted coating arrived on the table as the skull and its parts were folded away. "Enjoy!"

And Sarah was sitting at a normal table with some freshly baked pastries in front of her.

Huh.

Shiva was poking her! <Let me have em! Just one or two!>

Nope, you make me your food tester for mystery food stuffed with potential poison? Then Sarah gets to eat the odd cinnamon roll on a cookie-ka-bob thing first! Maybe even ALL of them!

She froze after the first bite.

...Holy crap, how was the cookie still crunchy when it was wrapped up in squishy goodness!?

Right, scan this shit so Adam can make it later. In fact, scan ALL THE THINGS!

~~~Broken Adventure~~~
After an amazing lunch and an equally lovely dinner and followup night and breakfast, it was time to get going for adventure!
Mostly because Sarah realized she COULD be super powerful, but CURRENTLY had some [[Water]] and the three ice magics. If she wanted to be able to sell this stuff, she needed to get the aura patterns for the other spells too at LEAST, especially [[Scan]] since it was supposed to work really well for her.
A moment later, Sarah was on the planet while Shiva was sleeping off her food festival in her mind.
This was a forest, somewhere near that odd train crossroads she could sense over there.
And her arrival didn't go unnoticed.
Monsters here, on the planet, could understand power. It was what drove them, what was valued. They had an innate understanding of how strong foes were, and tended to ignore those very weak unless there were no other targets while they avoided anyone or anything too powerful for blatantly obvious reasons.
It ensured creatures got more nutritious 'food' while fighters tended to mostly run into creatures of similar power levels as themselves, which helped THEM improve to become better food for the stronger beasts nearby.
It was a system that had fallen into a sort of balance long ago.
Then Sarah arrived.
And stood confused that there was NOTHING around for her examine, as a wave of beasts and demons frantically got the fuck out of there.
Thankfully the nearby city of Timber survived because the creatures were too horrified to bother fighting anyone or slowing down to invade the town they had just overrun. No, they allowed tiny soldiers and resistance fighters to kill their siblings and even themselves rather than dodge or fight back or deviate from the nearest and fastest exit AWAY FROM THAT THING.
The defenders were overwhelmed and then confused, standing awkwardly in the piles of foes and gore they had fought, soaked in blood and fluids, as rivers of enemies just kept fleeing mindlessly through the town and beyond to get away.
It wasn't considered a good sign.
~~~Broken Adventure~~~

Sarah was both stubborn AND lost. "Maybe I'm doing this wrong?"

Shiva hummed, not being helpful as she abused her access to copies of Sarah's mind to basically watch the more pornographic stuff. <I don't think random encounters are actually a thing. I'm pretty sure you are supposed to see the creatures about to attack you on this planet.>

She squinted at the still empty woods. "Are you sure? Because I've been walking around for a while now and I've seen nothing but tracks." Oh! "Maybe they are hunting something!?"

Shiva snorted. <If only you could find them. You know, by looking? With your super Space senses?>

No! "That's cheating! I don't need to cheat!" Maybe she could use her [[Mind Control]] to get a monster to… No, that was stupid. If she could see a monster to control then she would have FOUND A DAMNED MONSTER ALREADY!

Her ice friend hummed. <Well, what about flying up and then just visually checking the area?>

That wasn't giving up, right? She could fly BEFORE these boosts, so uh. That wouldn't count as giving in. Probably. "Alright, let's see here..."

A flex had her thin network of transparent silver bones forming behind her back, somehow connected to her Soul and the Space Within.

Without movement or alteration, her bones wings sort of… Stayed still while reality shifted around them?

And she was in the sky! "Woo!"

Felt WAY different from normal flight, less mentally stressful too. She was just sort of in this place and wind and stuff only affected her in ways she subconsciously liked. Otherwise it was in a different Sp̧ą͠c̷e͞ than her.

Right uh. Oh, there is that town from before! And over there is… More forests. And uh. A river or two.

Shit... Did monsters not exist here? Did she somehow kill off all monsters by making the beast consuming moon city before the first Lunar Cry could occur?

That… That would suck!

Sigh.

Falling to the ground and forcing her location to prevent all momentum to avoid causing a crater or a massive wave of debris, Sarah slumped. "I might have to give up and cheat with my sensors. There isn't bupkis nearby, and there SHOULD be! That town over there has a growing mountain of monster corpses they are still cleaning up!"

Damn it.

Shiva shrugged. <Why not try heading over and asking them what's up?>

Sarah sighed. "Fine. But if it turns out that random encounters ARE a thing, I'm calling it!"

A few minutes into the walk her GF had another comment. <Just remember to hide the wings and not to use Space related magic so it won't pop up unexpectedly. Try and blend in a bit.>

Oh right. "Thanks." Easy enough, Sarah mentally sent the ghost bone skeletal wings back to her Soul where they lived. Right, onwards to ask what the hell was going on! Woo!

Enjoying the unintended nature hike despite the odd ground tracks and tree trunk damage around the place, Sarah happily walked towards the nearest location of humanity like a perfectly normal girl with glowing silver hair, eyes, and tattoos.

She could do this!

~~~Broken Adventure~~~
Rinoa Heartilly sighed as she slumped at the table. "How bad is it, Watts?"
Stupid hair, getting in the way. She'd have to cut it back to shoulder length soon. Might keep the caramel highlights though instead of dying it black to match the rest of her hair, it gave her a great look and worked well with her eyes.
Watts was still in his Galbadian soldier disguise. "Not bad, Sir. Surprisingly not bad." He pushed some notes to her, and… Yeah, his handwriting was terrible like normal.
He tried though. "No deaths, minor wounds. And once we realized everything was fleeing something instead of just attacking, some smart ass in leadership opened all the gates and most of the monsters just ran right through. Could have turned out horrific, but we got lucky."
Yeah, this shit had been weird. "Any identities compromised?" When THAT many monsters showed up, it was all hands on deck.
And he winced. "Turns out, a few? But apparently they were 'known' insurgents from before and were just thanked for helping out in this particular crisis. I'm still organizing with other resistance cells to get them swapped out before someone in management screws something up."
She slumped into her arms, groaning. The occupation of her town was so WEIRD. There might be more insurgent groups and underground rebellions here than there were soldiers and undecided or bystanders! But whatever had spooked the hell out of the invading forces after their initial conquest had made everything go wonky.
Now the people here were sort of trying to prove something to someone. No one knew who, or what was at stake, but… Well, the Soldiers wouldn't leave but they also were shockingly polite. And understanding. And very, VERY hesitant to do anything to anyone.
Hell, sometimes she felt GUILTY trying to resist the occupation because the other side just sort of apologized when they WON. "Why won't they just LEAVE!? Goooo! Go away!"
Her best buddy hero partner Angelo whined and put her cute widdle head on her lap. Who's a good girl resisting the oppression of her loved ones? You are! You are!
Watts sighed, interrupting the petting session. "I'm still looking into it, but I'm pretty sure the pressure comes from the Sorceress Adel herself. Something about not showing weakness? I don't get it either, Sir. And you know how no one in her kingdom likes to actually talk about her in the first place."
Yeah, THAT ass. Rinoa had heard never ending tales of that demonic muscle covered horned woman and her rampage conquering the land before whatever the hell happened when they reached this town.
Sorceress Adel was legendary for having no empathy, something about the horrible life she had survived through, and equally famous for her near endless bloodshed caused while forcing everyone else to fall under her control. An unstoppable force, an unending threat, the unavoidable end!
Then they invaded Timber, lots of people died, the moon warped, the army freaked the fuck out, and everyone everywhere just sort of went into a holding pattern and held their breath to see what would happen next.
'Next', it turned out, was endless frustration and polite, gentle oppression. Sort-of. And now, most recently, a wave of monsters so scared that they almost politely slid right on by all of Timber's defenses and soldiers and citizens and weaponry.
Shit, what if the beasts had shown this kind of motivation when attacking? Timber would have been flattened instantly. With most of the planet, no doubt.
Angelo whined, getting all the pats because she was a good girl yes she is. "Make sure the families of the injured are taken care of. We got some funds to work with, right?"
He nodded.
Good.
Her late adopted grandma used to always say it was important to feed the weak and protect the hungry. And if nothing else, building a sense of community would help calm things down locally.
Sigh. And fine. "Send any extra medicine to the soldiers on duty through the usual channels. Anonymously."
Watts gave a wry smile. "Yes Sir."
Because the worst soldiers, the ones that killed their parents and the oldest veterans of the Forest Owls resistance? They were all brought back to defend their Sorceress and die in her service back in their capital.
These replacement guys who were sent out here were much younger, and even eagerly fought to protect her town today for whatever reason. Without complaint! Yeah, they were actually not that bad individually. A few were even dating the locals.
It made the resistance even more awkward than before, now that the blatant racism and sexism and abuse and hatred was not just cut back and reprimanded but mostly absent entirely.
If only they would FUCKING LEAVE. Or let the old traditions be followed and the old tales told again, or knock off those stupid random 'Please remember that we own your city, alright?' proclamations from their capital that somehow proves that they have totally won and all that.
Damn it this whole mess is so weird.
Darling Angelo put a paw on her knee. Walkies? Walkies. "Watts, handle that while I go take a quick patrol and check out the wall defenses."
Occupied or not, it was likely that Timber would be the ones to pay to fix all this. They had been forced to pay for all the other changes that the Galbadian Army had set up before, so it wouldn't be surprising. Hopefully the wreckage wasn't too extensive.
He paused. "You sure you'll be alright, Sir?"
Where was that leash? Not that you needed it since you can fight monsters with me like the best girl, yes you can! Yes, yes, we are about to go walkies. "Nothing's out there, no reports have come in. Not even an Ochu's been seen out there since the horde passed through, we'll be fine."
Sheesh, for the second-in-command of the Forest Owls and their infiltration specialist, Watts was such a worry wart.
Arc 3: Honestly the reversal was unexpected.
Rinoa Heartilly was, most of the time, a fairly easy going woman.
And yes, maybe she was sort of slightly in a 'rebellious phase', as her dad currently led the Galbadian military that she was helping Timber to resist, despite how pathetic the military's occupying force was turning out to be.
But, again, in general? Easy going.
The fact that her tech support team might argue otherwise (No, it was NOT unreasonable to have the best girl (Who's the best girl? You are!) get a collar equipped with a Junction System to help her with limit breaks!) or that she might occasionally get frustrated when her perfect plans have… minor… issues? Uh.
Well, she might have lost her grace and decorum a bit here or there, and may or may not have pouted a little, but IN GENERAL, MOSTLY she was an easy going woman.
Her theoretical patience was being strongly tested. "So can I pass through?"
The gate guard nervously shuffled his feet. "Sorry ma'am, no one can pass through until I am authorized to open the gate."
She leaned to one side as the man fully refused to look behind him. "That gate?"
He nodded. "Gate B3, yes ma'am."
Oh for good grief. "That open gate? The one behind you?"
He flinched. And slumped. "Ma'am, as you know after a major defensive conflict the gates and protective measures must stay closed for four hours after the end of combat to ensure it isn't a lull in battle."
She glanced to the side.
Still open. "And?"
He tried to seem confident, but it wasn't working. "And while there may or may not have been some confusion during the recent hostilities with the native creatures, Timber is to remain under lockdown for another two hours and twelve minutes."
Her dog Angelo clearly wanted to go play. And was confused why they hadn't gone through the open gate to go play/to go examine the city's defenses for damage.
Honestly, so was she at this point. "So you refuse to open Gate B3 until the danger is over?"
He nodded.
A hand wave. "Can I lean against the 'closed' gate with my dog then?"
He whimpered. "Ma'am… Look, come here."
The poor guy whispered. "When leadership ordered the gates opened during active combat, some of the creatures being fought and the unplanned collateral damage may have caused some maintenance issues."
Oh god. "The gate can't close, can it?"
He winced. "Officially it IS closed, and I can't authorize it being open for another…" He checked his equipment time. "Two hours and and seven minutes."
Glancing to both sides, he whispered. "That said, I was ordered to stay at my post. Specifically, to not move or alter my position guarding the sealed exit. For any reason."
Rinoa paused. "Is…" Seeing his frantic looks she sighed and whispered too. "Is that why you are half standing on that trash?"
He gave a pathetic nod. "I asked if I could clean up a little and got shut down hard. Someone upper on the chain is freaking out and is being VERY anal retentive on procedures right now."
Was she getting a headache? "So if I walked behind you?"
He grinned. "Then officially I assume you just left at some point and saw nothing. As I'm not allowed to even turn around for another..." A glance. "Two hours and three minutes."
Yeah, that was a headache. "Oh my god, why!? I mean…"
He sighed. "Because even if you actively broke the rules and 'assaulted' my 'sealed' gate I am required to stand here facing away from you and shout for all illicit actions to cease and desist until I believe you two have returned to Timber and complied with my instructions. And I don't want to scream at the town for two hours and…" A look. "For one hour and fifty eight minutes, so uh…"
This fucking occupation was so fucking stupid. "So I'll just calmly and peacefully relax a few feet behind you for an unknown amount of time, possibly heading home at some point that you just never noticed, and that's good enough that you can continue standing there literally not doing anything?"
The relief he was showing was a bit pathetic. "Thank you for your understanding ma'am."
Well, great. "Come on Angelo, let's stand behind this nice sir suspiciously quietly for the next…?"
He grinned. "One hour and fifty six minutes."
What a fast working clock. But fine. "Yes, for that amount of time or more."
Angelo wasn't exactly following along with the situation but she was willing enough to follow her human around the poor man trapped in managerial tape and downright EAGER to go through the 'closed' gate.
Good grief.
Outside the defensive walls, the damage was… Well, it was clear the wave of creatures were very focused on escape and not destruction.
In general each defensive segment showed low level chipping and scratches and impact damage… But once something got through the rest would give up and follow the new path. Ironically it meant that the weakest structures were the least damaged, as a beast would smash a segment open and the rest would widen it a bit and follow rather than clear out the blockage entirely.
The gates, all the ones on this side of town… Yeah, they'd need replacing. Sure, opening them let the bizarre ocean of death flow through the city, but BEFORE that odd order came down these frantic psychos had chewed, hacked, stabbed, tore, and mangled everything keeping them out with frantic need.
It was impressive these things opened enough despite the damage in the first place!
That or the creatures themselves helped the structures operate, which seems likely based on the corpses not cleared up… Most of that wave had ignored their fellow demons and beasts, but these flesh piles were clearly sliced up by non-standard weapons. Fellow claws and such, most like.
It was super gross too.
Suddenly Angelo whimpered and was… Trying to force her to retreat? What!?
She checked her Blaster Edge, an old but reliable Pinwheel model that would slice and return for further targets, but there didn't seem to be anything. "What is it girl!?"
Her whimper was disturbing, though she refused to retreat and leave her owner behind… When she went silent.
Fuck. Had she tempted fate by coming out here with little support? Well, FUCK fate then! "Is anybody out there!?"
And the world t͕̞̟̼̮w͇̮̝̹i̪̤̰sͅt̤̼e̼̹̻̥̥͎d̟.
Stepping from nowhere with the grace of a queen, a Goddess in a sinful business suit strode forward.
Theoretically professional, the high quality silk suit glowed slightly as the pearl haired beauty had glowing silver highlights teasing her skin… Yet even obscured by her coverings, hints of a near white glow seemed to accent every curve and tempt the senses.
But her fabulous hair and sensual body hidden under her nearly illicit outfit wasn't what was making her mind blank.
Nor was it the spike of bone in one hand or the silver flames of S̫͙̜̘̭p̼̺͉̪͉͙a͈͉͙̞ͅc̞̺̗̳̫e͎̲ that caressed her form in unseen ways.
No. Her eyes.
Those near liquid metal, silver eyes.
Damn they were beautiful.
Perfection seemed to brighten as a smile graced reality. "Hello! My name is Sarah and… Oh what an adorable doggie!"
Angelo seemed to suddenly relax, although the poor thing did look VERY confused. Like someone just pulled the 'Pretend to throw the Stick' routine on her or something.
And then Sarah, with a body that could topple nations, decided to kneel down and pet her dog.
Which gave an AMAZING view from this angle.
Right, be smooth girl! "Hello…?" Shit! Recover! "She's Angelo and I'm Rinoa and I'm a good girl."
And her face burst into fiery embarrassment.
Sigh. Nailed it, great job Rinoa.
Those astounding eyes should be marked as deadly. "Ah, sorry, I should have asked to pet Angelo here first… I've just had the worst luck finding anything out here before now. I thought stumbling on a monster or something to [[Draw]] from would be easier than this… And then I find you and this little cutie patootie here!"
Fuck it, Rinoa was going to keep her.
And apparently, the leader of the Forest Owls realized, she herself was clearly bisexual, though she had always suspected it before…
Sigh, she was going to have to dust off those theoretical plans she shelved in her old journals (NOT diaries, sheesh). Thankfully she had written organizational charts about potential polyamorous courtship during an especially introspective part of her life, so she had something to work with.
Go for the soft sell. Introduce yourself again, this time in a less spastic way, and try to hang out a bit! Also, keep the lewding and ogling to a minimum, you can do this. You can do this!
Rinoa took a calming breath and settled down. "Would you join my harem!?"
...Fuck! That wasn't calm or smooth at ALL! Damn it, she didn't even know if this clearly powerful woman was even INTERESTED in other women!
Sarah blinked… And gave her a tingly visual once over. "I mean, uh. Maybe? Though it depends on what my Summon and my girlfriends think when it comes to something long term."
~~~Broken Adventure~~~

Sarah absently pet the adorable dog who was now rolling on her back for scritches. "Hello?"

Nope, the young lady, apparently the 'good girl' Rinoa, was checked out. Ah well. "We can talk about that later, I can tell some sort of big fight happened here. Can I help?"

Much easier to ask for some units of para-magic to trade with if she was helpful first, right?

Rinoa was staring blankly at nothing, although she WAS quietly giggling and clearly imagining something. Why was she so out of it?

Shiva hummed <I think you are radiating a LOT of magic right now. Like, uh… A WHOLE lot. At least compared to the levels I'm sensing from this young lady. That might be setting off odd reactions I guess, depending on how 'normal' this Rinoa is compared to other locals. Not sure what would happen if someone tried to [[Draw]] from us right now, but likely nothing good.>

Wait, what!? <Adam!>

A distant grumbling. Fucking… <Can you at least show Shiva how to handle this!?>

<<Alert: Shiva is attempting to learn [[Summon: Diablos]] exclusive skills [[Enc-Half]] and [[Enc-None]]!>>

Shiva flinched. <Holy SHIT! My ḇ̪̤͎̥̫ͅr̺̭̩̙a̖͚͙ḭ̱͍ͅͅn̹̠̰͔̺̮!>

<<Alert: Shiva has managed to learn [[Summon: Diablos]] exclusive skills [[Enc-Half]] and [[Enc-None]]. Recovery estimated at 33 minutes.>>

Her rage echoed in Sarah's mind. <No SHIT Sherlock! What the HELL!?>

Sarah was gently poking Rinoa's cheek. Not fixed yet. "Shiva, what does the new skill do?"

The echo of pain made her wince too. <It puts my mind in a blender, THAT'S what it does! No wonder Adam wants you to [[Scan]] these skills and stuff from existing GF's, that was painful as fuck!>

Oh. "Are… Are you alright?"

A grumble. <Yeah, yeah. It's a skill that not only masks our magical aura, which would cut our encounters with creatures by half, but can actively draw a bit of ambient aura out of the world too. Makes it very uncomfortable for beasts and demons and stuff, they would actively avoid us.>

Huh. "Could you activate the first one? The half encounter option?"

Shiva sighed. <Yeah, but I can't learn anything else for a while and my headache won't go away for about half an hour. Here ya go.>

[[Enc-Half.]]

Something shifted… And suddenly Rinoa blinked. "Huh? Oh. I'm still outside? Man, this is one strange wet-dream. Damn good one though."

Sarah paused… And chuckled. "Oh really?"

Her new acquaintance froze. Or was that her new potential Harem leader? That would be a new one. Though Elizabeth would likely approve, based on past conversations and a few of the more odd comments in her note.

Rinoa seemed to catch up slightly. "Uh." And began to blush. "Ah." Yep, that was a hell of a blush. "Oh hi, my favorite dog of all time! Who's the perfect distraction? You are!"

Sarah smirked. "She is?"

The attractive woman nodded firmly. "Yes she is, she certainly is making sure you don't remember anything about anything from the last five minutes. Except the good stuff. And it was all good stuff and you are impressed by how mature and not spastic I am and I'm going to file a good chunk of that into my mental repression folder."

What? "All of that? So we can talk about the harem stuff later I guess."

Rinoa nearly broke but managed to stay 'calm' and 'collected', with only a minor pink in her cheeks. "Y… Yep!"

It was honestly impressive.

Heh. "So you were sophisticated and suave and so on and so forth?"

A firm nod as the woman seemed to pull herself together. "Yep!"

The smirk was a bit more suggestive. "And you are a good girl?"

A mature young woman with fire in her spine firmly nodded. "Ye… Uh."

And nearly collapsed into blushes and stuttering.

Oh, Sarah was going to keep her!

~~~Broken Adventure~~~
When the angel of death and bones vanished from behind them, energies vanishing entirely, the impromptu army of monsters and mutants and demons and beasts all had the same idea, simultaneously.
Run faster.
Somewhere behind them was an unstoppable, irresistible h̪un̗̟̥̝̠̥͔g̹͖͙e̠̖r.
And now they couldn't detect it.
And it was (hopefully) still behind them.
And not directly next to them.
Or, as the more terrified and intellectual entities feared, possibly in front of them. Or floating above.
They fled, they ran hard, and they didn't bother to defend themselves or fight the moronic local beasts and creatures and people in their path.
If they didn't know about what was behind them, maybe their gnarled and gnawed corpses could slow her feasting. Give them more time to flee.
It wouldn't be enough, nothing ever could be, but maybe they would die slower.
~~~Broken Adventure~~~

Rinoa was walking around Timber as Sarah helped her toss sticks for Angelo to chase after. "Yeah, I'm mostly staying out of the way. The locals like me well enough, but everyone tries to walk on eggshells around me. Either because I lead a resistance cell or because dad is important to the occupying forces."

Sarah chuckled. "You are pretty open about your secret job, aren't you?"

Sigh. Like there was a point. "Dad found out I came here pretty damn quick, and uh… Well, somehow he decided I would be safer here than coming home. I had initially planned on helping Timber rebel from our nation's rule and recover their freedom and reclaim their history… And then everything went all funky."

She winced. "My 'teenage rebellion'... It's pretty much an open secret already. And while it is useful as my groups get treated with velvet gloves and a mostly hands off approach, I'm pretty sure that part of the reason these stupid soldiers won't leave is because Dad replaced most of the real jerks with people ordered to help protect me and this area."

The other woman blinked. "Huh. So uh… Why not leave? Won't they follow along?"

Rinoa groaned. "Because I'm worried what will happen to this place if I go. Will these fairly alright soldiers get reassigned? Will the oppression get a thousand times worse? If anything, I'm almost acting like the local representative of the Galbadian Republic, who is fairly popular because I keep trying to get us to LEAVE. And I know my actions have saved a lot of people over the years."

Not all the resistance cells had plans, or organizations, or funds… Or even food sometimes. The Forest Owls had mutated over the years into something like an underground blackmarket social system or advanced illegal charity. Hell, if she was willing to just give up it was very likely the local 'enemy' leadership would just blatantly follow her orders.

Except if she asked them to leave.

It was so. Damned. Frustrating!

Sigh. "I'm spending more time rebuilding damaged areas for the poor and helping hurt fighters and stuff nowadays than stealing resources or sabotaging shipments! And the better I do at trying to fix this city up, the less motivation people have to join my resistance cells!"

Some dark part of herself feared that at some point the Galbadian Republic soldiers AND the citizens of Timber would just swear loyalty to Rinoa directly and force her to do all this horrifying paperwork and political finangling forever!

She grumbled. Everyone talked about the potential death and dismembering that can occur when you create a resistance movement against a much more deadly and powerful foe. No one considered the risks of too much 'success'.

Her best girl brought back the stick (More like a bone from some beast corpse, but that just made it a chew toy as well). Aim a bit higher, and put ALL her damn frustration in! "ARGH! I just wanted to help some people! Not be elected mayor or whatever!"

That one got some distance, and the dog was off.

Sarah hummed. "No, no. I get it. I just like to build stuff and… Well, I tend to pick up political power in the process as a side effect. That and people do a lot for me in exchange for good trade deals."

Trade?

Her mind instantly began moving over the financial documents for Timber, the resistance cells, the recent shortages and supply redistribution lists, the… No.

No, she was walking around with a beautiful woman who seemed both interesting AND potentially interested in her last minute harem plan.

Focus.

Though her curiosity did force her to ask in the end, anyway. "Trade?"

Sarah hummed. "I was stuck somewhere very boring for a long time, and I ended up setting up a bunch of farms and housing and stuff to pass the time. And then I found out people liked the grown products, made some trades for some unrelated goods, and then I just… Trained a lot."

Huh. Something about that tickled her memory somehow. Probably wasn't important. "Well, training is important." Goodness knows that it had taken forever teaching Angelo combination attacks.

And the experimental Junction Collar System didn't exactly act as expected all the time.

Like, how on earth did Angelo manage to use [[Invincible Moon]] to cause complete damage negation, temporary as it was? Or even duplicate the effects of a phoenix down with [[Angelo Reverse]]? Sigh, well, as long as it worked.

Point is, she knew training was vital to ensure safe battles.

Not that her dog always used any particular combination that Rinoa expected each and every time, but still, training certainly helped move things along. Ensured they could react as needed to strange situations.

Sarah sighed. "When I say 'Trained a lot', I mean for like a decade or something. Not that my mind can remember it all."

Uh. What? "You started training at seven!?" Sarah was like 18 or 20 right? Or maybe a tall 16 year old? Fucking training hard core since seven. Sheesh, what had Rinoa been doing at seven!? Political parties, most likely. Old memories of her mom at least made those bearable.

The bone white haired goddess waved that off. "Probably not, either started before I was born or eons later. It's a messed up story, but uh… Basically don't mess with time travel. To keep myself sane I only remember the last five years at a time now, with notes to keep me from having issues when something important happens."

The bone was back, and she absently tossed it so her dog could go frantically chase it. "Huh." She had never used [[Slow]], [[Haste]], or [[Stop]] before… but now she was CERTAIN to avoid them. Sheesh!

A couple of glances… If she was secretly an old lady, she looked DAMN fine for one.

Sarah smirked and seemed to catch the unspoken thought. "Anyway, I came down here to sample para-magic, get some spells to work with, and maybe beat up some beasts. Haven't seen anything and it was really frustrating me."

Wow. "You know, you are super lucky. There was this HUGE wave of monsters earlier today, they were all freaking out… about…"

Her mind flickered. Angelo in terror. Her mind checking out, basically enthralled. A woman who walked through reality like others walked through doors or hallways.

Fuck. "The monster horde was running from you."

Suddenly the tattoos, beautiful as they were, made her mentally make other connections. From news casts, from history books. To Sorceress Adel. The same Sorceress who fled from Timber without explanation, who seemed to be in hiding now.

Double Fuck. "You're a Sorceress."

Shit.

The bones. And now that she focused on something inside that hurt to touch, she could almost taste unseen wings. Some echo of ḥ̤̬̝̪u̹̖͉̹̳̰n̝̰̜̱̯̘͚g̺̖̦e̬̤͇̬̮͈r̠̤̺̪̬̜͓, imaginary or not, seemed to drift on the wind.

The Bone Sorceress.

How long had the two of them walked past this section of wall anyway? Too long, right? The company and her best canine friend had just made the time slip, making her miss the slight errors in reality.

A long lost memory. "Look child, to the moon hung with the stars."

A glance upwards… And the Moon did look different today. The spiral of silver city seemed to be spreading faster. To shimmer with energy unlike yesterday.

Well, not like having her friends or even a damn army here would do much to help. Aside from potentially distracting this woman with their corpses as everyone scattered, the game was up.

Fuck. "Hey, if you're going to eat me or something, could you let my dog go home?"

The silver haired goddess/Sorceress blinked. And blushed. "That's a bit forward, don't you think? I mean, harem or not we haven't even gone on a date yet."

And her mind hiccupped.

Sarah coughed. "Anyway! On more, less adult rated topics! What kind of food is popular in Timber? I might not have any local currency, but I've got apples that would knock your socks off!"

Death gently tugged her shoulder and played with her dog, and she followed along with a confused heart and a babble of sound flowing through the air.

Some part of her mind, the part still freaking out but less on topic then the rest, was trying to point out that adding a sexy Sorceress to your harem had to count for bonus points somewhere, but the rest of her was horrified at the idea of explaining all this to Watts and the poor Galbadian soldier protecting the open 'closed' gate.

Rinoa blinked. "Wait, what?"

Sarah hummed. "Yeah, all the milk and cheese I want! Seriously, the farms love my veggies, even if we just barter back and forth."

Weren't Moon Produce near legendary? At least they were in Timber. A preserved radish from the Lunar Kingdom would pay rent and bills for a family of five for a few months, easily. "How much… No, explain the bartering stuff first."

And this beautiful woman from her nightmares, the darkness of endless cautionary tales, the cause of numerous dire warnings told by elders... Cheerfully explained how some moronic cow farmers were basically ripping off the goddamn Lunar Kingdom by trading a few Gil's worth of milk for fruits and vegetables each worth a king's ransom.

Suddenly, the endless shock and awe (And some erotic fear, don't judge her!) gave way to wry frustration. "No."

Sarah blinked. "No?"

Rinoa nodded. "No. Cancel all those trades in the future, go through my people. Not many here can afford your food, but we got connections to the nobles and military leaders who CAN… Hell, we can BUILD you a custom milking facility and cheese warehouse for less than you were being charged."

Her silver eyes sparkled! "Can we also buy samples of para-magic!? I could save loads of time!"

Good grief, for the value of your goods you could buy TOWNS. "Yes. Yes we can."

Right, freak out about demonic Sorceress moon ladies potentially consuming reality later. Let's get back to Watts and her contacts and set up some illicit underground farmer's markets.

They headed back to Gate B3.

Passing the guard at the Gate, she coughed. "Oh my! I do believe I found my friend behind you, who was just as silent for a long time with me and my dog as we stood here, again, suspiciously quietly. For some time!"

The man didn't turn around. "Oh? Well, I'm glad I'm not going to have to do any paperwork as I am still required to stand here for…" A sigh. "Another thirteen minutes. But feel free to tell Ms. Karen that I'll be stopping by her bakery to pick something up on my way home, if she can save something for me."

Sigh. fine. "No problem." Half this damn town used her as a messenger, it was so frustrating. But at least it let her 'get away' with stuff like this. STUPID stuff like this.

The man's posture froze when Sarah walked past him though. "Have a nice fhqWhGads!?"

No! Rinoa saw her first! "She's going to be in MY harem!"

...That was out loud, wasn't it?

A glance met sparkling silver eyes.

Damn it!

Arc 3: Flying with the Forest Owls.
Sarah followed Rinoa around Timber, met a few people, watched the woman make comments and talk the talk and set up code names and so on and so forth. And, thanks to the woman insisting that Sarah wear more concealing clothing (AND making her promise to remove the 'disguise' once back at home base), it went pretty smoothly.

Though apparently getting the ball rolling was a slow process.

Heck, they had a fairly long conversation about what Sarah COULDN'T do, more than anything else.

No, Sarah shouldn't instantly restore the damaged areas. It could attract military attention.

No, she shouldn't just generate goods, equipment, and material while outdoors. At least, not more than the miniature amount of inventory space the Junction systems could normally provide.

No, she couldn't build a house or rent something. Because it was super important that she stays near Rinoa for really important reasons and she was going to remove this disguise later, right? Right.

It was a fun if slightly confusing experience… And it also demonstrated how Rinoa was the backbone of this city. Even the military soldiers seemed to be trying not to salute the 'normal, just ignore me' woman as she checked that the injured were given access to medical spells and treatment, that the poor had escaped danger, that various plans were on various schedules.

But eventually Sarah was 'safe' at Rinoa's super secret headquarters and no longer 'disguised' and time passed as they talked a bit.

Was this the most efficient way to get things done? No.

But Sarah was having fun seeing how many ways she could tease her new friend.

~~~Broken Adventure~~~
Rinoa coughed, but tried to ignore the recent innuendos and become slightly more calm. Because she was NOT on her game today and she wanted this to go well.
Her potential Harem Member (One down, seven more to go! Eight was like the perfect number.) sat at her favorite table in her headquarters, attentive and oh so distracting.
Wait, no. She had asked a question, right?
Rinoa winced. "Well, there are some [[Draw]] points near Timber, but in town itself? We only have a weak point for [[Cure]] and another that the military watches that stores up [[Blizzaga]]."
She grumbled. "THAT one caused a lot of people to freak out when it stabilized, because the stupid [[Draw]] point is inside a famous magazine headquarters and they wouldn't compromise and I had to use some pressure to make sure the military wouldn't just blow the place up or something…" Sigh.
Sarah blinked. "Well, I've got any ice magic and [[Water]] covered by now… Is there really nothing else but [[Cure]] around here?"
No. Of course not. How common did she think [[Draw]] points were? "Like I said, we can trade for what you need easily enough, I know people. I can do this! Totally!"
Still, Sarah's disappointment stung. "And at least the [[Cure]] point is just outside the pub? It's common enough that most people don't bother to regulate those places too. And after we get some money it will be easy enough to trade around for what we need. Super duper easy!"
After all, each person could only equip a certain number of units when it came to magic, depending on their compatibility with their GF, how often they used certain spells and abilities, and how hard they train their bodies to endure the energies. Even after storing up some reserves, most kingdoms didn't bother heavily regulating most normal spells from being bought and sold on the black markets too hard.
Sarah hummed. "Well, I only need to get a few samples to work with and I can make do. What Guardian Forces are available here?"
Crap. "For trade or purchase?" Basically none. Still. "The Galbadian forces tend to use [[GF: Cerberus]] for their Junction systems, it's the one I use since Dad pulled some strings. He lets you Junction a lot of magic to various stats, like strength and magic and status effect resistance. Good for combat, basically."
Could she get Sarah access to Junction him? Or any other one even? How easily another Junction system could [[Draw]] a GF from a monster or foe was heavily dependent on how compatible the target and the user were during the attempt, how long the target had been Junctioned to the GF, and all kinds of stuff. Nearly impossible to do in the field normally, unless you had access to the GF directly.
And she only really used [[GF: Cerberus]] so that Angelo could help out with her Limit Break attacks and boost her skills. Rinoa wasn't compatible enough to even summon the creature directly, not that she had tried too hard. Hadn't really bothered to try at all!
After all, almost no one could actually Summon their GF's in a combat situation or every soldier with a Junction system would abuse the hell out of it in every fight.
She sighed. "GF's in general are watched carefully. And anyone I would have been alright with robbing had already been reassigned away from Timber… Most GF's don't tend to be equipped for new soldiers via shipment or at their mission locations, they mostly send our military to Galbadia Garden directly to get them set up."
[[GF: Cerberus]] was so popular because, even if some random fighter couldn't call forth his full power? He still was great at supporting most of the more uncommon Junction system stats, and most users at even the basic compatibility levels were able to prevent the more dangerous status effects too. He wasn't super powerful or deadly, just great support. A backbone of the war effort.
Could she share her GF with Sarah? But then she would be drastically weaker, and it could even cause Angelo problems. No, if she had two maybe, but not giving up her only access to spells.
Sigh. "So I can't get you access to one in Timber. But…" Oh! Wait, that could work! "We could go to talk with Cid!"
Sarah blinked. "Who?"
Right, all powerful Sorceress stuck on the moon for years. "Balamb Garden's Headmaster, Cid Kramer. He's tried to help the rebellion cells here in Timber and other frontline areas, to hold back the Galbadian war front. And I think Balamb Garden has like two or three GF's, either secured in the facility itself or located nearby!"
The Bone Sorceress blinked. "Oh? That does sound more convenient than wandering around the wilderness looking for things that have [[Scan]] and hoping to stumble on more GF's."
That original plan was terrible and Sarah should FEEL terrible. Rinoa had broken out of her own embarrassment loop in shock when the beautiful moron had sat at her table and explained her 'brilliant' idea to basically wander around forever and hope to find what she needed.
GF's were RARE, and even [[Draw]] points were either restricted or very slow to replenish.
Hell, most monsters only had maybe one or two spells to [[Draw]] from unless you were really compatible with the ability they had!
And even visiting known locations to get some magic reserves could be tricky. Places without active occupation forces still had normal(ish) people drain the local [[Draw]] points from the towns and force outsiders to wait for them to restock, and that is despite the towns being founded half the time ON good magic build up locations in the first place!
Although places like the Gardens tend to get the best spots. "I think Balamb Garden also has all sorts of magic [[Draw]] points? I know Cid mentioned they had reliable [[Esuna]] and the more common stuff like [[Cure]], not many places can provide both status recovery magic AND health recovery magic in one location."
Not to mention the creatures nearby, right? Right! "They also raise some monsters and manage the local creatures outside the area to mostly generate a wide range of magic in general, like [[Sleep]] and [[Blind]] and other stuff needed for combat like [[Thunder]] or whatever."
Seriously, she heard rumors of giant monsters that had [[Fire]], [[Thunder]], and even [[Quake]]! All in one creature, all INSIDE the scary place, just to help SeeD members train and more easily gather the magic they needed to grow! Hell, sometimes they could even grow strong enough to have [[Fira] or [[Firaga]] and similar!
Sarah blinked. "Ah. So make sure I have [[Enc-Half]] activated so they won't see me and flee this time?"
Sigh. "Yes." Also so you won't cause another near calamity for nearby regions. Was bone white the new blonde? No, don't do that Rinoa, that's a stereotype. Right, focus. "Though as a mercenary company, they might have the [[Draw]] points on cooldown."
Still, Cid was a nice man. He had tried to help her in the past, and had offered assistance in the future in return for resisting her dad's military forces. "I'm pretty sure they will have extra units of most types of magic there, and since you are now a member of the Forest Owls? They should be happy to help us get a few samples for you to work with!"
Sarah gave her a small smirk. "Oh, I am a member now, am I?"
Confidence! Sexy goddesses like confidence, right? Probably! "Yes." Mine!
An unexpected voice made her jump. "Oh she is, is she? How surprising."
Eep! "Watts! When did you get back!?" Shit, he hadn't seen anything did he!? They were both uh… Just having a normal conversation. No failed attempts at slow seduction here, no sir! She coughed. "I mean, uh. Hey, glad you came back so quick!"
He gave her a look. "I've been gone for hours."
Fuck. "I mean quick in a relative way?" How long had she spent half helping Sarah plan out a new black market trading empire and how long had she wasted staring into those damn sexy eyes!?
Sarah giggled. "I assumed he was a friend of yours when he showed up an hour or so ago."
And the man blushed. "I stopped staring! And I got coffee!" He pointed at his cup as if that absolved all sins.
What!? "Watts, NO! She's MY girl! I saw her first!"
...Uh.
He gave a solemn nod. "Right, and calling dibs is important in all serious relationships."
Fuck it, she'll do it live! "Yes. And I called dibs. On her and any future sex deities I stumble upon in the future." Cover those bases girl! Remember the harem plan!
Sarah blinked. "Oh! Right, you should meet Shiva."
Uh. "What?" Wait, wasn't that one of the GF's Cid mentioned?
The silver haired woman waved to one side. "She's sort of my GF? And part of me? It's complicated, but I should bring her up now since it could be surprising later."
What?
Sarah lit up in glee! "Actually, let me do this right! Give me a second."
And she warped into nothingness.
And the world warped away.
She and Watts were now on an endless plane of reality, where the floor was a few inches stolen from her home base but infinite in length and width. Where the room was endlessly far away, and the ceiling was nearly too distant to see.
And suddenly, glowing in the sky, was Sarah.
S̙̫̞̣o̠̠r̪c͔̬̻͔͍̟ḙ̟̝̜̬͎̯r̞es̺̺̳̦s͙͕ ̣͙͖̙̗ọf ̘͖̮B̬o̟͔̤n̖̖̳e̹̳̗͖̰̟̻,̞ͅ ̗̫͍̦̤̯Q̺͈u̯͇̞͖͉e̩͖̤̱͍̗͖e͚̫̙͚̰n̟̪̹͚̦͔ o͓f̦͕̲̝̼ ̞͉̯the̮̼̝͚̟͍ ̪̳̝̹̘̮ͅL̠̼͔̼͈u̳̭͎̪͔͕ͅn̯̜ͅa͈̥̖̬̼̜̤r̳ ̘͇͇͉K̘͍̞̩͕i̝͈̯͈̺̪ng̲̤̦͚͖d̫͚̗ͅͅo̤m͍͖̭̬̫̪.͔̠
She floated with a soft smile, one hand held forth while massive wings of floating bones, each one carved from S̛̀p̢҉͏͞a̵͟͢c̢̡̡̕e͟͏̴͢͡ itself, seemed to cradle reality directly.
Her body glowed with silver flames of raw Magic.
"From the frost of the night, the quiet of the grave..."
Watts seemed locked up.
"From my mind and my heart, the id of my ego!"
Well, it was official. Terrified arousal was certainly a thing.
"I bring forth the forces that guard the moon and her people."
Colors formed as if malformed glass danced in the air, the warping of dimensions creating a rainbow of light.
Silver eyes bṷ͕̜̙̜r̺n̳͓e̞̹͖̻d̮͙̻̺̬͎̠.̣̠̫̮̖
A cage of bone seemed to weep crystals of impossible clarity.
"[[Summon: Shiva.]]"
A SPIKE of ice pierced to the heavens!
From within? A frozen angel of the sea.
And the world stilled.
"Arise, my lady of Ice."
Floating through the many crystals like illusions, perfection opened her eyes.
Rinoa gulped. "D…"
Watts seemed to be nearly having a stroke.
You can do this! "D…"
A soft hand reached to her face, while distantly she could see Sarah grinning like a loon.
A soft voice. "Hello, Rinoa. My name is Shiva."
By the power of love! "DIBS!"
Oh thank the Sorceress, she had held it together!
Watts seemed to be choking for some reason, but he was a big boy and he could handle it.
And then everyone was back to normal and far too powerful chilled limbs pulled her into the BEST HUG EVER! "Eee! She's perfect! How dare you keep her away from me, Sarah!"
The other woman seemed to absently flicker away her impossible translucent bone wings. "You know I was going to introduce you two anyway. Otherwise we'd only get to hang out during fights when we call you to freeze something."
Watts jerked at how close the two women were and stiffly walked away. "I'mma go do important stuff so bye Rinoa we can talk tomorrow and I'll see you later alright? Alright." And he was gone.
Shouldn't she like… Try and plead for help? Or attempt to escape this? Or something?
Sarah chuckled as the man fled. "I like that guy. Bit tense though."
Shiva twisted to see where Watts had gone, not bothering to stop her nearly nude vertical cuddling in the process and basically wrapping Rinoa to her side in the process.
Screw it.
If she died in this hug, it was a life worth living. Though, despite the ice woman's bust size, it was more embarrassment than suffocation. How lovely.
Some distant talking. Not important, got hug.
Louder talking. Still got hug.
"...good girl?"
She jerked. "Rinoa is a good girl!" Wait, what!?
Sarah chuckled. "Alright, she seems better now. You can let her go, Shiva."
What!? No! "I can be a good girl AND get snuggles! It's a law or something!"
Yeah yeah, logic and brain and future embarrassment, whatever. Hugs!
Rinoa went to her happy place, and uh. Yeah, the rest of today was probably a wash. But that was a problem for future rebel leader of the Timber resistance network.
~~~Broken Adventure~~~

Sarah blinked as Rinoa giggled quietly in Shiva's embrace. "You broke her."

The other woman pouted. "Oh come on, you got to tease her for hours! AND you got dessert first! Let me have this."

Well… It was freaking hot. "Fine. But if she's going to be out of it anyway, let me try and scan her."

Without [[Harvesting]] her new Harem leader, of course.

"[[Phase Pierce]] and [[Scan.]]"

It was just the template building scanning units, she didn't have the magic [[Scan]] para-magic itself yet… But it was easy enough to feed the results into the Junction system as input.

And… Nope. Errors. "Hang on, I need to finagle this."

Shiva smirked, pulling a happy but mumbling Rinoa over to the nearby couch to get more comfy. "Take ALL the time you need. More than that, even."

Yeah, snuggling with Shiva was all the fun of normal cuddles without overheating. Although getting sweaty wasn't all bad either… No, focus.

Looks like the first try was too much data. Her own mind handled the flow easily enough, but this thing, as complicated as it was, couldn't parse the data stream.

Sigh, with Adam's stupid 'Research' cheating methods, this would have likely already been parsed and formatted optimally in the background before she even considered the potential problems. Maybe she was getting lazy? Taking the extra assistance for granted?

Meh, she could still do that stuff, it was just much less instant and intuitive.

Right, let's make a subtemplate. Something to parse out the data and try to optimize this and any FUTURE data to best integrate with the Junction software and hardware.

Of course, a good chunk of the problem is that this hardware is supposed to use GF's as cheat codes. A good half this mess doesn't actually know what it's doing, it just passes data to the GF used to operate everything and assumes it can figure out how the results will come out.

It was why Shiva could eventually duplicate every GF skill and ability out there… Any of the Guardian Force magic frameworks theoretically could. Just… Not in ways the Junction System could reliably interpret. Or interface with.

And Sarah's enhanced and redesigned Junction System was still BETTER than most examples now. After all, her attempts to give it wrong and malformed data to detect para-magic gave errors and warnings… The official version would just shove it all to the GF.

Which would then… Do something. Sometimes explode. Or cause containment issues. Like, this equipment WAS brilliant, but it was still mad science levels of brilliance… Not focused on safety or reliability or cautious and staggered improvement stages.

At least her improved system would just let you know it wouldn't work. And whatever Adam kept doing in the background was at least improving it constantly as she sent him data, even if he refused to interact with this Jump actively now.

...Then again, maybe he couldn't? She knew that one of herselves had told him something and did something and she couldn't remember not remembering to not remember it. Or something. Point was, maybe she told him not to get involved right now?

Seems likely.

Ah! Here we go, didn't fix the issue but now it was passing it to Shiva before it was hitting errors. "Hey, what's the issue with the data this time?"

Shiva hummed, having pulled a now sleeping leader of the Forest Owls into her lap. "There is contamination. Basically the natural auras of living beings, Rinoa in this case, is slightly modifying the detected patterns from the GF she has Junctioned and the magic she is employing."

Huh. Well that explained some stuff. "Which would be why modern Junction systems can only read three or four para-magics accurately from foes, or one or so from a [[Draw]] point."

Because people naturally use some abilities or skills more than others. Or have some spells equipped to boost their health or something defensively for so long the user's aura shifts slightly to match it, making detection easier.

Well, she could work with that. "Right, let me add a unit to detect the target's personal aura signature first so the scanning units can try and filter that interference out directly."

Shiva nodded, having made some sort of ice brush and started gently working on Rinoa's hair. "Don't forget to add an ambient location aura signature filter too. Together that should hopefully get rid of a lot of interference and limit us to other monsters and non-targeted individuals nearby."

Right. And hey, that could easily enough be used to detect hidden enemies too, right? If her systems could filter out ambient magic, the energies from her teammates, AND the target's signature… Anything else would be a possibly unknown or hidden foe or friend.

Hmm. "Her signal is all wonky."

Shiva hummed. "Don't forget that it is blended with [[GF: Cerberus]], even if it is a weak compatibility bond."

Oh right! And her improved systems didn't need to find and Junction a billion GF's to improve Shiva's skills, just study how an existing one operates so that 'Research' can determine how hers should function.

Now that she wasn't trying to read two magical frameworks as a single woman, it was much easier to get clear data! Let's pass 'Research' the data for [[Maj-J]], [[Spd-J]], [[Hit-J]], and the Status attack and defensive options. Looks like four status para-magics could be hooked up with this data, after it got reviewed…

And with magic, speed, and warping reality to ensure accurate hits covered, Shiva would only need to scan something with [[HP-J]], [[Eva-J]] and [[Luck-J]] to complete the most well known sets of enhancements!

Though Sarah might not require more damage soak, not with her defenses and skills, boosting evasion and luck might have some fun implications later in life. Not to mention that [[ST-Def-Jx4]] might help 'Research' figure out the elemental equivalent ability, [[Elm-Def-Jx4]] as suggested by the code.

No luck as far as more item to magic refinement skills though… But still, Sarah was able to send [[Expendx2-1]] and [[Auto-Haste]] for study and maybe reduce magic spent when casting units on multiple targets simultaneously.

Although… Her eyes drifted to her magic stores.

Yeah, with 35,333 units of [[Blizzard]] para-magic already, with more being converted automatically and stored away in her Warehouse over time? Using one instead of two units of magic when dual casting might not be that big a deal.

Because yeah, she had less of the more powerful stuff. After conversion and generation rates were calculated, [[Blizzara]] was around half that amount and [[Blizzaga]] and the powerful [[Water]] only managed to build up a few thousand total… But did it matter?

Not like she could junction all that at one time to any stat anyway. For now she was limiting herself to 10 units per stat, to give her more time to test and gather data… Or at least she would be, when she got more variety of para-magic to work with than just four.

Right, filter out the ambient patterns, filter out Shiva and Sarah, filter out [[GF: Cerberus]], filter out Rinoa herself! Let's [[Draw]] some magic! Four samples aren't remotely close enough!

And that number wouldn't be going up right now. Sigh. "I don't think Rinoa has any para-magic enhancing her skills." Not according to this scan, anyway.

Shiva hummed. "No, like I said her compatibility with [[GF: Cerberus]] is abysmal. Check her reserve stores, her connection is good enough to cast stuff from there."

Oh, right… Normally the Junction scanning systems weren't delicate enough to do that. Right, what did we get? Ooh! That will save a walk. "Welp, let me just snag one of these [[Cure]] to work with. At least it is practical para-magic to build up."

The ice woman nodded. "Plus, after you test your [[Draw]] accuracy a bit I think the local soldiers will have more to work with. They may be low powered people, but the military does give them all a GF for a reason… And they should have [[Scan]] to catch problems during patrol and some attacking magic, most likely."

Sigh. "Probably more ice magic, with my luck."

The snow elf grinned. "Ice magic is cool."

Sigh. Yes, yes, I got the pun, stop wiggling your eyebrows like a moron. "Maybe we can find another magic refinement GF skill in the city, but most likely we will have to head over to that Garden place. Probably should do that anyway."

Rinoa seemed to wake up. "Nooo! Cuddle time."

Huh… Well, it was a convincing argument. "Fine, it is getting late anyway."

Shiva grinned at the sleepy girl and her lazy dog already sleeping in her little doggy bed, tired long ago. "Seriously Sarah, she's super cute."

Yeah. A wave lifted both her GF and her 'boss' towards one of the bedrooms. "Should we make breakfast in the morning? We only had snacks because of all the running around we did when we came into town."

The other woman paused… And frowned. "Have them make it there, then bring it local. I don't think people around here would react well to your metallic zombie bone butlers."

...Alright, fair enough.

~~~Broken Adventure~~~
Rinoa shifted… Then stretched. That was like… The best dream ever!
But she must be seriously pent up to have such a sexualized mind trip. Hot moon Sorceresses that summon ice waifus? Sheesh!
Slept like a baby though. And these covers were both perfectly warm AND perfectly chilled. And soft but… uh.
Arms?
She was being hugged. By some VERY curvy people.
Oh yeah baby no!
Cautiously opening one eye… She saw gleeful silver beauty smirking back at her. "Morning!"
Eep!
Flinching back was a bad idea because the cool arms suddenly wrapped her in soft teasing hell. "Mmm, nice to see you too dear. Did you sleep well?"
Rinoa has hit a critical overflow in the embarrassment registers. "Flurgle?"
And now silver eyes were SO CLOSE and warm arms easily wrapped her prison in even more squishy torture. "Yes dear, sweet dreams?"
Rinoa has critically crashed, please do nothing to address the situation. "Gahd."
Some strange part of her mind was actually impressed she could turn this color and not explode. The rest of her was conflicted. "...Hi?"
""Good morning, our glorious leader!""
Two sensual voices were SO NOT FAIR!
The bone Sorceress was grinning as she snuggled. "We should get up, you mentioned quite a work schedule for today."
What? Work? Huh? It was like her mind couldn't catch up.
Wait. No, she was the leader! (Right?) She should be directing this train! Right?
Right! Let's get up and seize the day!
Any time now!
The soothing cold voice was whispering in her ear. "Or not. I vote we stay in bed for a while." And she was squeezed.
Nope, brain unplugged. "Kay."
She could be the mature and responsible leader later.
A shiver ran down her spine as lips nibbled her neck.
Much later.
