[x] Stay and fight. (Hawkwood approves)
-[x] Stay on the offensive, close to the body the snake is emerging from, circling around and keeping it distracted.
-[x] Hawkwood flanks the Pus from the other side you're striking from, catching the pus in a pincer and keeping it from focusing on one or the other.

Do we even have any firebombs?

Edit: new plan:

[x] Stay and Fight. (Hawkwood-sempai notices you)
-[x] Pass out the firebombs, one for you and one for Hawkwood.
-[x] Throw yours first, and get the attention of the Pus with a few stabs at the not-snake part of the body, and perhaps a thrown sword once you step back.
-[x] Then once the Pus's attention is on you, Hawkwood uses his Firebomb and strikes while it's distracted.
-[x] Alternate Stabbing until dead.

Also, where is one there probably are more. Is a fight going to wake up the others? If so, getting them all with a firebomb before they transform would be, uh, necessary, because this particular enemy type is much more vulnerable before the transformation.

Also, they're supposed to be able to tank 3 firebombs, though they get stunned.

So i'd suggest something like this if they're too far for the firebomb to affect them all:

1. if the others are keeping quiet, keep the firebombs in reserve pull back to a zone clear of enemies and then use the bombs (aka kiting).

else:
1. throw a firebomb, stun enemy.
2. Hawkwood kicks them back into the others (transforming by now)
3. Hawkwood retreats, throw second firebomb, hopefully kiliing the others before the transformation and
4. zerg rush.

firebomb radius makes this second idea bad strategy. Also, it's too fiddly.

Don't think I didn't notice that change, @BlackoutSampler. :V

The last part won't be picked up by the tally. You used the wrong bracket.

On a related note, when's our first chance to learn pyromancy? It feels like it's going to become very necessary soon.

High Wall of Lothric 13: Pus of Man
"Alright, you distract it, then I'll hit it from behind. You followup afterwards." Hawkwood says quickly. "You still have those firebombs?" He asks. "These things hate fire."

You pull out the two you found earlier, and toss one to Hawkwood, who gives you a nod. You run across the rooftop, avoiding the Pus of Man's wild flailing as it sees you moving.
Combat Round 1
(Fire-bombing: 9 + 10 = 19)
As you run, you throw your firebomb at the giant blob, only to miss it entirely. Instead, your firebomb hits one of the few remaining Hollows, most of them having been crushed by the rampaging Pus of Man when it first began sprouting out of it's host. "Oh come on!" you shout. You only had one of those!

In the meantime, the giant blob of black tentacles continues it's approach, having to stumble it's way across the rooftop due to the fact that it's attached to a body much too small to match its size. Thinking quickly, you summon a sword in your hand, the weight and balance beyond familiar by this point. It really does feel like it was made for you, which you suppose it was technically. You take a deep breath, fix your stance, and throw the sword at the creature.

(Stab n' Throw: 92 + 10 = 102)
-1 FP for Sayaka
The blade goes sailing straight towards it, and you can feel the satisfaction when it pierces the creature's left eye, remaining lodged in place. The Pus of Man shrieks in agony, its flailing increasing in intensity as it starts to rush towards you, it's stumbling much more frantic now that it's been hurt.
(Hawkbomb: 72 + 11 + 2 (???) = 85)
It's then that a burst of flame appears along the Pus of Man's backside. The creature nearly falls over as it howls louder than ever, it's almost goo-like body being set alight. "That's how you use a firebomb, by the way!" you hear Hawkwood's voice rib you from the other side of the abomination.
"Screw you, it was an accident!" you respond.
(Hawkstab: 39 + 11 + 2 (???) = 52)
Unfortunately, it seems that Hawkwood got it's attention right back with the firebomb, as the Pus of Man spins back around and smashes down at him. Hawkwood leaps out of the way, only managing to get a quick slice onto the beast in the process.
Combat Round 2
(Stabbing: 8 + 10 = 18)
(Stabbing: 19 + 11 + 2 (???) = 32)
You take the opportunity to rush in for an attack. Unfortunately it seems the Pus of Man was either expecting this, or is still upset about the fact that it has as sword lodged in it's eye, as it simply slams it's entire body down backwards, smashing you into the roof. You aren't even able to so much as try to block the attack with your shield. Before you can get yourself back up, you find yourself being picked up by it's single arm, the substance that makes up it's body feeling like a disgusting gel against your skin. Just touching it directly makes you feel nauseous, and you can feel the grip it has on you tightening as it lifts you further up towards it's mouth, ignoring your struggling.

"Sayaka!" you hear Hawkwood shout, only for a quick spin from the Pus of Man to send him flying backwards. almost being sent off the roof entirely if not for the spirelet that he smashes against. He lets out a grunt of pain as he pushes himself back up, but he's clearly dazed by the impact.
Sayaka takes (2d4 = 2 + 3) 5 damage.
Sayaka gains (1d20 = 5) 5 corruption.
Hawkwood takes (1d8 = 4) 4 damage.

Combat Round 3
(The Depths (Save Roll): 100)
(The Watcher's Prey: 61 + 11 + 2 (???) = 74)
Finally, you reach the creature's face. It glares at you, one of your sword still plunged into one of it's eye. You swear, it's remaining eye is growing an even deeper shade of red than it was before. It seems to smile as it looks at you, before it opens it's mouth wide, and dangles you up above it's waiting maw.

Yeah, no. You're not getting eaten by a goddamn slime snake. Not after you beat Gundyr This is just Gundyr-lite in comparison! Your moment comes when, right as it drops you into its gullet, something causes it to stumble. Instead of falling directly into the mouth, you instead bounce off the side of it. "Fuck you!" you yell, as you take the opportunity to stab your sword into its cheek. Pushing down on the sword, your aided by gravity, which does a fair amount of the work, as you continue down, pushing the sword along with you. The Pus of Man lets out one continuous shriek as you slice a gash clean through it's entire body, it's disgusting ichor spraying out all across the roof.

Finally, you slam down against the rooftop, panting as the Pus of Man finally collapses into a heap, it's shrieking finally ceasing.

"Are you alright?" Hawkwood asks as he approaches you. He's covered in just as much of the inky gunk as you are at this point.

"Yeah, just didn't expect it to try and eat me." you say, shivering a bit. It almost reminds you of that monster that killed Ma- No, breathe, calm down, don't think about it.

"Creature from the Abyss do weird things like that." Hawkwood explains. "There's one kind that tries to hug you to death."

"Really?" you ask, thankful for the distraction. "How does that even work?"

"They're these weird black things that float around. They look like a person's outline, with tiny white eyes. They try and fuse with you, but them trying to do that is... well, lethal."

That gets a small laugh out of you. The idea of a bunch of weird floating things trying to hug you to death seems kind of amusing.

"That was a good job there, by the way." Hawkwood says.

"What, not going to tell me to be more careful?" you ask.

"Honestly, I should, but to be frank it could very well have done the same thing to me there." He sighs. "The Pus of Man are some of the more revolting creatures from the Abyss."

"Is that why they smell like someone's gym socks fell into a dumpster?"

"I... beg your pardon?"

Woops. "Uh, why does it smell like sweat and garbage?"

"The Pus of Man are basically rotting humanity, as far as I know at least." Hawkwood says with a shrug. "They were rare back in my time, but that doesn't seem to be the case nowadays."

"So not everything Abyssal smells like that?"

Hawkwood snorts. "If it did, I would have quit being a Watcher all the sooner."

You'd probably do the same, because having to be around that smell constantly would drive anyone mad.

You take the opportunity to look down over the ledge on the other side of the roof, and spot a large, round armored man holding a massive halberd, as he marches around a fountain surrounded by a bunch of decapitated knights and fires. Each step the man takes practically shakes the ground from its sheer weight. The man turns his head and spots you.

"Ah, greetings!" he rumbles out. "Dost thou serve the Lady Gertrude and His Highness Prince Lothric?"

Respond to the strange man surrounded in dead bodies?

Well, those were some poor rolls. Good thing we got that crit save, or else we'd be pretty screwed.

As for the Wing Knight... I kinda want to tell the truth, but at the same time, asking "Who's that?" might set him off.

We could always lie and just say yes. IIRC the knights wearing blue in Lothric serve the princes, so just nodding along and biggty bouncing on our way could save us a Tactical Retreat™ . I don't know if that kinda lying is in Sayaka's nature though.

We could just tell the full truth
That we just arrived without any knowledge of anything, ask him to tell us about her
Even if the idea of us not knowing would set him off maybe the opportunity to evangelize would give us a chance to disarm the situation

Might as well just tell the truth. If he takes exception to it, that just means he's a fight we were going to have anyways. If he's nice then we can avoid having to take him down, which is also good.

He's got a pretty good miracle, indicating that he believes in his lady pretty deeply (it's got a really high faith requirement to cast), but if I recall correctly no real answer to just standing on a ledge and taking potshots at him. If he gets violent, all we have to do is throw swords at him until he stops moving.

"Ah, greetings!" he rumbles out. "Dost thou serve the Lady Gertrude and His Highness Prince Lothric?"
This feels like a trick question.

From what we know of the Lothric ruins, there was a civil war between the giant fat Winged Knights (who were part of the Way of White, espoused the linking of the Fire, and were loyal to Gertrude) and the Lothric Knights and conventional military (who remained loyal to Prince Lothric even as he opted to let the Fire fade).

In other words, being loyal to both Gertrude and Prince Lothric is impossible. They're rallying points for two sides of a civil war. The corpses of Lothric Knights that surround this guy should attest to that.

I think we should just pass one off to Hawkwood.

[X] Nudge Hawkwood. Have him respond.

Yes to getting gone, no to healing. We need to be bit more conservative with that I think.

[X] Yes
- [X] Head down the ladder on the side of the roof.

No way to meta with this convo seeing as we don't exactly know about the civil war. Even then, doubt he would believe anything we say considering that we look nothing like servants of either faction. Best to just keep moving I suppose, hopefully he doesn't beyblade us

If I'm wrong, feel free to correct me, by the way. This is just from what I remember, and from way too much time and effort wasted on lore. The ones loyal to Prince Lothric are the scholars and the knights who dress in blue, while those in Red are loyal to Emma and the traditional ideals of Lothric. This is why the only way to reach Prince Lothric is to go through the Grand Archives, and why the final bridge that leads to his chambers is guarded by soldiers and knights dressed in blue.
The Winged Knights, who dress in blue, were loyal to Gertrude, and most likely sided with Prince Lothric simply because he was their only option, as the two both had common enemies with the rest of the Lothric establishment.

The Knights, meanwhile, remain loyal to High Priestess Emma, as the Knights and the Priestess Pillars had close ties (It took me like 30 minutes of searching to find the item description for this, which was Blessed Weapon) after the Scholars acquired the Grand Archives.

So for the Civil War rundown, you have on one side: Those who remain loyal to the institutions of Lothric as a whole, which would be the majority of the Knights and the Priestess pillars, along with I would assume most of the populace.
Opposing them you have... pretty much everyone else, those being the Scholars, the Hunters and the few Knights who are loyal to Prince Lothric, and then the Winged Knights, who are loyal to Gertrude, who is seen as a heretic by the rest of Lothric as claiming to have met with divine messengers is for some reason heresy. Lothric, having basically already committed heresy in his refusal to link the fire, would become the most logical ally for the supporters of Gertrude, who'd have little reason not to join forces with him.

S-senpai noticed me!
Well damn, didn't expect this. Regardless of whether you stick around or not, thank you for the years of entertainment you gave me with Red Soul. Hopefully I can give even a fraction of it back.

Hey, you never know! Maybe all those decapitated bodies just cut their own heads off and he's actually a friendly guy.
While typing this out I actually realized that, with how bizarre Lothric traditions seem to be, like how they practically fetishize self-sacrifice, you could try and argue that maybe they did. You wouldn't be able to win said argument, but you'd at least be able to try.
