Ari may not like her Martyr status, but hell would freeze over before she lets the abyssals desecrate the resting place of her crew.

Dislike of her martyr status or not those are HER boy's graves that are being defiled, she has not yet BEGUN to rage.
That... is a very good point that I had not considered. The carnage will make the Montana class green with envy.

Agreed. The one thing that might prevent Ari and Pennsy from acts of violence on Abyssmark and the rest that would make Guadacanal One look like an ice cream social is that they are slow enough that Jersey and the rest will probably arrive before the Standards show. If either of them made it to Pearl in time to participate in the festivities, the Abyssals would literally have to shoot them to pieces to even slow them down.

Needless to say, trying to order Ari or Pennsy to not head there to respond is a fool's errand.

and u know there is going to be some idiot officer going to try to do that shit, citing regulations and other bs, which will piss off Ari and Penny, who will pull an A-Team level of bs to steal a plane and magically make it work for them, and it lasts long enough for them to beat the air craft carriers to Pearl, and they alert the Abyssal forces of their presence by crashing said plane ontop of the queen bitch

Or... They'll recognize that the people wjo can most effectively respond are already a lot closer than they are, and that the fight will be over, one way or the other, long before they can get there, because this isn't an 80's action movie, and they're both reasonably intelligent.

That leaves the Pennsylvania sisters and Yamashiro as the main battle line in southern Japan (except of course for the very pregnant Mutsu). Regardless of what their very strong emotions are about Pearl Harbor, they probably are professional enough to stay put and trust others to fight that battle while they stay to defend their new home.

SecNav have mercy on any abyssals that show their face.

Adm. Richardson: Not to be critical, Pennsylvania, but you could have sunk that Abyssal cruiser from 10 miles away without incurring any damage.

Pennsy: (looking up from the repair bay with one good eye) Could've sir. But killing her with Ka-Bars was a LOT more satisfying.

Ari: (from her own bay, with bandages over her head from the nose up) Damn straight, sis.

"Screw logic, laws of physics and common sense, I'm a boat!"

Nobody has remarked on the irony of CarDiv 1 on the way to save Pearl? For shame. Yes, there were others, but still.

Also, spare a thought for the poor defenders who are experiencing what GIs in Korea did. Gun oil, at severely low temperates, stiffens. Jamming the gun. So, you have to filed strip the gun, swab all the oil off, reassemble the weapon, and use it without oil. It goes about as well as you'd expect.

I believe a mention was made at some point, something about Kaga; and honestly at this point I think most of the defenders are probably dead or wishing they were.

I wonder if they would even have enough extreme cold weather gear to fight in the "snow zone". If it is cold enough to affect modern synthetic firearm lubes, exposed skin is at extreme risk. A couple of long sleeve shirts and a bomber jacket won't cut it, either. Hypothermia in those conditions would be as deadly as the abyssals.

I mentioned that Kaga and Akagi will be all kinds of motivated for this operation, since in a very real sense they can redeem what they probably see as their greatest regret. Plus, if you need an opening airstrike on Battleship Row to lure them out, CarDiv 1 probably has those strike plans on file still and they worked out pretty well.

Similar to Jersey finding out that she just got transported back to the evening of October 24th, 1944 off the Philippines so that she can participate in Samar rather than have Taffy Three face Center Force alone.

Modern general purpose lubricants work down to 20F. Cold weather lubricants work down to -75 F.

But do the defenders have those? This is Hawaii, where there is very little cold weather.

CLP perfromance was unsatisfactory in military tests below -20 iirc. The military does have LAW (lubricant arctic weapon) which is good down to -65. They probably don't have that in Hawaii. You can make your own with dexron transmission fluid, kerosene, and mineral spirits, or do like the Soviets did and dilute your oil with kerosene.
The gun oil issue can be overcome. Loss of limbs to frostbite will severely impact your weapons handling. The amount of flower print shirts it would take to stay warm would limit your combat effectiveness.

eh, MOPP gear would work as cold weather gear in a pinch

Don't know. Maybe. If you are in a forward position that suddenly drops from 80 to -30, it might help you escape to a warmer area. Put on regular weight clothes, a chemical suit and sit in -30 temps for 6 hours, I wouldn't give you good odds.
trust me. I've worn the civilian version of MOPP gear (got to love tanker accidents) you find yourself sweating to death just standing around in that stuff.
