Dear god, I don't know if anyone on the Island will still be alive when Jersey and Company arrive. At this rate anyways... I'm still gonna hope someone's alive when reinforcements arrive.

The majority of the civilian population has long evacuated to the mainland. There's still a lot of people there, but nowhere near the million or so people the 2010 census had for Honolulu and Oahu county.

So even if, and it's a very hypothetical if, Tyrpyss captures the island she'll starve soon enough.
Not to mention Jersey and the others (possibly including Ari and Pennsy, Kaga, Akagi) and Jintsuu arriving at Pearl and defeating the invaders. Especially Jintsuu, as I'm pretty much sure she'll let Abyssmark pay for killing her sister.

Hopefully, Mo's sacrifice bought enough time for Jersey and co to arrive at Pearl.

You know, I absolutely love how you declare people pointing out issues, such as teleporting Abyssal troopers, and how it does not make sense considering the story up to now and how it affects everything as being "Salt".
I never said I disagreed with the salt, I feel it's pretty justified in fact, just commenting on how there were more dissatisfied people over yonder as compared to here.

You know what? I'm annoyed enough that I'm going to post here about my issues.

1) Pearl not having shipgirls. This is annoying as every other fic that has not had the Hawaiian islands lost by the time shipgirls come back has understood that Pearl would be reinforced with them. It's a place of strategic importance in the Pacific and also part of a US State. Which means politically you would be forced to do so. But the explanation given over on SB is that Hawaii was attacked multiple times and they fought them off while deciding that all they needed was steel hulls. I... don't think that I need to say anything about that explanation.

2) Was brought up before and that is the fact that Pearl is apparently so damn far down the list of places to have enough people and supplies that people are falling asleep. Politically and militarily, that would be unacceptable. Hawaii would be one of those places having shit thrown at them.

3) Teleporting Abyssal troops right out of Call of Duty. And yes, that is what they are in the end. Something that catches everyone in story by surprise, but we're told him the author they always had the ability. This is stupid because if they always could do this, then humanity would know it. The author also claimed that we would have thought him stupid if they instead used landing craft rather then teleportation. This despite in game various shipgirls having the ability to launch landing craft (which carry light tanks, but I suppose that the author does not consider that "Awesome" enough or overwhelming enough for drama's sake).

4) The gliders. This one really annoys me as I have had to do a lot of research myself into flight ranges for my own stuff. Distance by flight between Guam and Pearl is 9,855 miles or 15,816 kilometres. The longest range air transport, no bombers, transport, is the Junkers Ju 390 and it has a range of 6,030 miles or 9,700 kilometres. That's still 3,000 miles short. Not even the Amerika Bomber would quite manage it since it would be dealing with drag and weight from the gliders it was carrying. Not to mention that even the "Stealth" one would be seen fifteen minutes out by the radars at Hawaii. But since we have not seen the Abyssals use any "Wonder Weapons", it's doubtful they could use the Amerika Bomber.

5) Complete and perfect intelligence on Pearl and it's defences. So complete, in fact, that the Snow Queen can actually drop her troops exactly on top of them, every single one of them, and take them without anyone knowing. The amount of bullshit needed for this one is pretty much off the scale.

6) Jersey and the others needing to sail down the West Coast to California before heading to Pearl, instead of either sailing right for it or taking a goddamn plane there. And yes, I know, the author had already claimed that they are too heavy to fly anywhere. And thus they must go the slow and very long way there rather then a shorter one. Mainly so that Pearl can be lost, bring in drama, and have Jersey try and show how awesome she is compared to everyone else (and the military in story to look like a bunch of either incompetents or assholes who want to lose Pearl).

As I've said before, this story has pretty much become, well... boring. The Abyssals show up, wreck a bunch of shit with them only being able to be stopped by the Mighty Jersey. Also, Jersey needing the fights in order to get away from the fact that she is pretty bad as a person outside some things. At first it was not too bad really, and it looked like she might get better and grow as a person... but then it would all get kicked back even further and it's gotten to the point where I've started to wonder if she would fit in Evangelion as part of the main cast.

Right now, about the only really interesting parts are Old Iron's stuff and Sky's. And that's about it.

The abyssal ground troops have existed for a while, and I'm assuming the "teleport" is another function of the "if the waters are under their control they can just kinda appear" thing that goes away when there are shipgirls or ships close enough. My guess is that they can only do it on islands that have no remaining naval protection.

As to Pearl lacking shipgirls, I got nothing. America IS really shorthanded, but you'd think there'd be at least one there.

That was the explanation over on SB, yes, except just shipgirls/old enough ships like Mo. Because Pearl still has a number of steel hulls, they just aren't sending them out against Battleships. Still a problem that no one in story knew this. Look at it again, they're all expecting landing boats. Not one is expecting for the Abyssal land troops to appear right there in front of them.

If this had happened as many times as mentioned in story when the Abyssals took Islands, there would be no way in hell that it would catch them by surprise. Heck, they would have their guns pointed at the surf.

Yeah, it makes no sense at all,

The only people who have faced an Abyssal Lansing are all dead or captured, but yeah, lots of abyssal BS. They're the personification of "I do what I want."

I have an idea on why pearl has no shipgirls, why it is low on the supply chain, and the perfect intelligence. There's a spy/traitor high up in the command chain.

I'm hoping that the Jersey battle will be up to par with the Habakkuk fight, so I will wait.

Also remember that there have been hints that there is a power behind the abyssals. An "Abyssal Admiral" of some sort, on par with the powers that decide which shipgirls can come back.

Yeah, it makes no sense at all,
Lets play count the Heavy gun platforms(14"+) not already being used to keep Japan alive.

Musashi: Has the Armor, Speed and Firepower, but Inexperienced and the likely hood of Japan loaning out a Yamato to a foreign navy...

Iowa: being used for spares

Whisky: sunk

Comrade NekoJerJer-chan: Running convoy duty

Mutsu/Wash: Pregnant on light duty only

Ari/Penny/Texas: Armor out the ASS, but no AAA worth talking about(except Texas), slow and Inexperenced.

Saratoga: again no AAA worth talking about and Inexperenced and poorly armored for a BB fight leaving MO to do all the heavy lifting again.

Re: No shipgirls at Pearl:

They may simply have felt that, if anything that could take down Mo hit Pearl, whatever destroyers or cruisers they could spare from their fleets would just be additional casualties. Ones they likely couldn't afford. Throw in the fact that Pearl probably has fairly regular convoys passing through, which could potentially join in if they were nearby, and it may not have made sense to directly base any additional ships there.

When it comes down to it, most of the shipgirls currently around are having to work hard just to keep Japan and/or England afloat by escorting food convoys, and many others are stuck protecting mainland ports. If Hawaii was mostly evacuated of civilians, as some have said in the thread, then it's priority is likely lower than a lot of other locations. And Mo alone was a huge chunk of the combined Japanese-US fleet. They may just have decided they didn't have any more forces to spare.

I recently got the battleship Kii out of a WoWs gift box. interesting ship. Its like a super Kongou.

And something like a stretched Burke would be better then a Des Moines.
Not entirely certain on that; a stretched Burke (i.e., a Flight III Burke) wouldn't really provide any more capability against Abyssals than the existing ones, and the CA's armored hull would hold up better against them than a Burke that's only hardened against .50-caliber fire, and even then only in the vitals.

Modern gun-fighting ships would get shat on though. There's a reason we don't build them anymore. You want super-heavy AShMs like Granits.
Assuming they guide at all on the Abyssals. The one advantage a gun would have over an AShM is that it's unguided, so a modern 8"/55 like the Mark 71 Major Caliber Lightweight Gun would presumably be as effective as a heavy cruiser's 8" guns were in WW2, since it's literally the same gun in a newer, lightweight mount. (The problem being that you'd need to put a hell of a lot of them on the ship to get a big enough broadside for effective fire.) After the MCLWG's original platform, the Strike Cruiser of the 1970s, was cancelled by Gerry Ford, the Spruance class DDs were built with structural foundations and strengthening members meant to allow them to be retrofitted with it replacing the forward 5" gun, though the upgrade was never carried out. At least as recently as 1991, there was a design study done that showed it could also be grafted onto the DDG-51 Flight I, replacing the Burkes' 5" gun, albeit with a number of significant drawbacks.

And technically, we have just recently built three new gun-fighting ships, in the form of the Zumwalts. They have no real AShM capability, and only self-defensive SAM capability; their primary weapons system is the 155mm Advanced Gun System mounts. Granted, those are mainly meant for shore bombardment use, but they do remain an example of a modern gun destroyer.

My guess is that there's a good chance that war-production Burkes will be equipped with either MCLWG or AGS mounts in place of their 5" guns (and possibly one of their VLS mountings, in a configuration designed to allow it to be swapped out again for the VLS cells in the future), simply to provide them with a bit more punch against the Abyssals, particularly since the US Navy has no super-heavy AShMs or any way to graft them onto our warships even if we buy them from the Russians (who would almost certainly be hoarding production for themselves, given how they'd doubtless be going through them like toilet paper). It's not ideal, but at least it'd mean they could hit with something that could actually damage a cruiser instead of just a five-incher--remember, cruisers were specifically designed to be protected against destroyer guns, meaning that they were armored against five-inch fire...
