Jersey got some slack from Crowning after her first tumble with Musashi due to extenuating circumstances. She'd just lost her beloved little sister right around Christmas. And don't forget, she's a battleship. She's supposed to be the core of a vast battlegroup, which means she gets desperately lonely much faster than any human would. More importantly, she apologized profusely and honestly about it. He wasn't happy about it, but at the same time he and Jersey weren't really in a committed relationship, and Jersey was clearly rattled by what'd happened to her sister. So, this has been festering in my mind for nearly twelve hours and won't leave me alone: Is Jersey ever going to face any social consequences for her actions with Musashi?
I don't know about the rest of you, but where I'm from someone who cheated on their SO tends to be treated less kindly than Jersey has been. They most often are treated as someone you wouldn't put trust in (given the last time someone put trust in them, look how that turned out).
Jersey cheated on Crowning, didn't fess up to it(so he had to find out because Musashi's a dumbass), apologized when he called her, got off with an absolutely pitiful slap on the wrist from two admirals (Being separated from Musashi since they couldn't be trusted together), finished the mission they were separated for, went to the naval base where Crowning now lives (You know, the one he uprooted his entire life to assist her to go to?), asked for permission to repeat the thing that got her punished (Which was given, by both admirals, because we evidently don't learn from our mistakes if we're shipgirls or admirals to shipgirls), kept the entire base up with their hatefuck (the base where Crowning lives. You know, the guy she cheated on with the person she's hatefucking?), and then spent the morning being buddy-buddy with Crowning. All of this with the apparent approval of everyone around her. No one has so much as commented on this. I was expecting snide comments or more formal attitudes, specifically from those who had been deployed and managed to keep it in their pants. At the very least, I expected sympathetic remarks to Crowning. Instead we get what has happened so far in the story: Jersey displays Zero-Impulse Control and is happily rewarded for it.
I really enjoyed this story. Still do, in fact. But this entire thing with Jersey and Musashi has torn into that pretty well. Could I get an explanation for why no one is angry at Jersey, at least? Crowning loves her, so there's his excuse. You might argue that the shipgirls somehow understand why Jersey did what she did. But why is the average person on any of the bases behaving like it's business as usual? Everyone who has a Twitter account knows what happened and supposedly a good number of them were cheering on Crowning/Jersey. We haven't seen a single person so much as mention what happened. No off-color comments, no snide remarks, no comfort offered.
The people don't feel like people if something like this could happen to their friend and no one says or does anything, you know?
I have to agree with you...Jersey got off very lightly. However, it remains ambiguous as to whether she and Musashi actually did the deed rather than just beat the shiz-net out of each other in a private setting. So, this has been festering in my mind for nearly twelve hours and won't leave me alone: Is Jersey ever going to face any social consequences for her actions with Musashi?

Abyssmark and Tirbyssal both get sunk; Tirbyssal's giant offspring takes over as leader. Bismarck and Tirpitz are somehow both summoned by the Royal Navy. I can see it now:
*BIsmarck and Tirpitz remember all they did as Abyssals and are horrified*
Bismarck: *In tears* How, mein Schwester? How can we ever make up for such atrocities?
Tirpitz: *Stoic while comforting her sister* Our penance began the moment we were summoned, sister. Especially seeing as how we are now forced to serve with Englanders.
*Bismarck gives a watery giggle*
Hood: *off in the distance, having heard* Oi!
He doesn't really have much to go back to. Many of his colleagues were aboard New Jersey when she blew up. At least on the West Coast he's got Gale, destroyers to read bedtime stories to, and a beautiful Japanese battleship made of top-tier wife material flirting with him.I have to agree with you...Jersey got off very lightly. However, it remains ambiguous as to whether she and Musashi actually did the deed rather than just beat the holy crap out of each other in a private setting.
That being said, if I were Crowning, I would've left for the East Coast as soon as I'd heard about the first time, and distanced myself as much as possible. Oh sure, I would've kept in contact with Gale and the various CAs and DDs, but Jersey? Nope. She's a great battleship, don't get me wrong, but nobody deserves to get jerked around like that. Like Jersey said, he's better off without her.
Somehow I interpret this not as Hood having a problem serving with Bismarck.Abyssmark and Tirbyssal both get sunk; Tirbyssal's giant offspring takes over as leader. Bismarck and Tirpitz are somehow both summoned by the Royal Navy. I can see it now:

Tirpitz: *Sarcastic* My apologies...old habits die hard.
*Bismarck giggles again*
Tirpitz: On a happier note, I managed to glean some information for you. Did you know your Rhine companion is also back?
Bismarck: P-Prinz? Is she here, too? Can I see her?
Tirpitz: Nein, mein Schwester, she is not here...she is in Washington state, serving with the Amerikaners. From what I have heard, she has made great friends with two of their cruisers and is very happy.
Bismarck: *Sighs in relief* I-I'm glad for her...she was always such a sweet girl. *Sighs* Ah, well...perhaps someday we can visit her where she is.
Tirpitz: Ja. *Thoughtful* Did you know she is nicknamed after a brand of snack food?
Bismarck: *Confused* Was is los?
Tirpitz: Ja...something called a 'potato chip'. The Britishers call them 'crisps', I believe.
Bismarck: Hmm...well, if it is food, it might merit further investigation.
Tirpitz: Indeed. *Looks down at Bismarck* We have been given a second chance, mein Schwester...a chance to serve together like we were meant to all those years ago. While we cannot undo what has been done, we can learn from our mistakes, ja?
Bismarck: *grins impishly* Even if we must do it under the auspices of the British?
Tirpitz: *Sighs fake-dramatically* Everyone must make sacrifices during wartime, mein Schwester.
*Bismarck giggles*
Hood: *distant* Oi!
Tirpitz: *nuzzles Bismarck* The important thing is that we'll do it together.
Bismarck: Agreed. *Thoughtful* We can still rile up our former foes, right?
Tirpitz: *Smiles* But of course...German honor demands it.
*The German battleships are sitting there when a few British destroyers wander by. One looks at Bismarck and crawls into her lap, snuggling in.*
British DD: *Murmuring sleepily* Comfy...
Bismarck: Are all destroyers this adorable?
Tirpitz: *Nods* Ja, it would appear so. *Shrugs* And the British made scores of them during the war, so I don't believe there will be a shortage of them to cuddle.
Bismarck: Good.
We also don't know how long the post was up for and/or if musashi put out another tweet apologizing for/clarifying the original one.

More importantly, she apologized profusely and honestly about it. He wasn't happy about it, but at the same time he and Jersey weren't really in a committed relationship, and Jersey was clearly rattled by what'd happened to her sister.
When she was in a more emotionally stable state, Jersey basically fell over herself trying to make things right. She bought everyone in Yokosuka Christmas gifts with her own money, apologized to Crowning (again) and made it clear that she didn't expect anything from him, but would happily offer her body if he was interested. That was sort of the start of Crowning realizing Jersey might not be for him. She's too boisterous and fragile to play well with him, but she was still making an earnest effort to make things right.
Then she had to participate in the attack on Woody Island, which gave Crowning time to process what'd happened without it blowing up in his face. Since he's a good man and Jersey had made every effort to make things right, he didn't want people making Jersey miserable when she got home. He'd also started to become friends with Kirishima, who generally meshes much better with him than Jersey ever did. When Jersey finally got home months later, he's had time to cool his head, and the first thing he sees her do is put others before herself. (Putting off her desperately-needed dinner to make sure Shinano gets tucked in and read a bedtime story.) And then she tries to make him happy, first by offering herself, then shipping him with Kirishima with all her gusto. Also, Crowning isn't on the base just because of Jersey. He may have came there with her, but he came to help the war effort. And now that he's been there a while, he's made friends with Gale, Krishima, and the destroyers.
Also, the bit where Jersey asks for fucking permission was a step forwards for her. She still had the same urges for Musashi--and busty boats in general--that she always had. Her desire to roll in the sheets with chocolate yams hasn't changed one bit since they first met. But, Jersey showed that she had control over those impulses by asking her Admiral's permission. If he said no, that would be the end of it, she'd never bring it up again.
I have to agree with you...Jersey got off very lightly. However, it remains ambiguous as to whether she and Musashi actually did the deed rather than just beat the shiz-net out of each other in a private setting.

hmmm... @Skywalker_T-65 how Scottish is Hood anyways?Somehow I interpret this not as Hood having a problem serving with Bismarck.
Instead she is annoyed with being called Englander. She is Clydebuilt and is therefore Scottish, thank you very much.
Tirpitz: It is hardly mein Schwester's fault that, due to Winnie's desperation, you were sent out fresh from the builder's yard and with civilian workmen still aboard. *Scoffs* Some Royal Navy standard! We Germans trained our ships for at least nine months before setting them loose on the high seas. *Smug grin* As is evidenced by mein Schwester's excellent gunnery skills during your little interaction. I believe Fraulein Hood can attest to that, nicht wahr?King George V: We're not exactly thrilled about it either!
Prince of Wales: You shot my eye out, you bloody tart!
Duke of York: Oh bugger, not this again.
Howe: What's going on here?
Anson: Whatever it is, im staying out of it!

Hood: *Indignant* Oi!
Tirpitz: *Turns to KGV* And as for you, 'Your Majesty'...you and Rodney can really lay claim to fame. Surrounding mein Schwester when she's crippled and pounding her to bits...ooh, aren't you a couple of big, bad battleships? *Smirks and gets right in KGV's face* But, seeing the pounding your Schwester took from her when she was in tip-top shape, perhaps your reason for doing this was because you knew pouncing on her when she was crippled was the only way you had Any. Hope. Of. Winning.
*Gasps reverberate throughout the room before there is dead silence. KGV looks like she's about to stroke out.*
Tirpitz: *Grins, having made her point* I rest mein case. *Exhales contentedly* That was cathartic...we will definitely have to do that again.
"And they shall know no fear."For some reason, I'm reminded of a WH40k thing that said something similar to that...
Hood: Aye, that's right, laddie! Haggis!(As for Hood, she slips into a Scottish brogue when she's frustrated/stressed enough)
"And they shall know no fear."
And kinda expected more upvotes... damn
Long enough to cause a big enough shitstorm that two admirals got involved, so... Also, Jersey and Musashi weren't exactly subtle, you know?
I understand the initial slack, I do. Traumatic events often lead to terrible decisions, but those decisions are more often than not forgiven as a result of said trauma.
All of the bits about Crowning forgiving her I also understand. He loved/loves her and that makes it far easier to for him to cool off and give her the benefit of the doubt. My primary complaint is that literally everyone else is doing the same. You say that Crowning wouldn't want them to make her miserable but when was the last time someone shit all over your friends feelings and you went "Oh sure, no problem, I won't do anything at all, not even give them the cold shoulder."
I'm not saying they should make her life a misery. I'm saying that she shouldn't be getting metaphorical high-fives from everyone.
Asking for permission to do the thing that got you in trouble tends to get you in trouble again. Not get you given permission to go ahead and do it. Quite frankly even if the admirals were willing to let them have another shot there should definitely have been something done. i.e. "No but we'll revisit this in six months as long as neither of you embarrass the entire naval core again" Or something. Just felt too much like "Hey, you screwed up but since you asked permission to screw up this time we're gonna let you go ahead and do it again."
Also, it's a mite heartless you do it so loudly the guy you were with previously can hear you and then thank him the next day for not taking advantage of you while you were vulnerable. Felt very much like she was implying that sleeping with Musashi was the right thing but sleeping with Crowning would have been terribly wrong.
Meh. Still kinda messed up for reasons I said above. Everyone assumes that they were 'doing the deed', ergo we have to treat everyone's response as though they did.
TheJMPer makes an excellent point about not having a whole lot to go back to/not wanting to abandon his friends. On the other hand, he does gloss over the fact that everyone is acting like nothing wrong has ever happened. So... *shrugs* Not really sure how to feel about this. It would have been nice for someone to at least go "Crowning, say the word and we'll have you in whatever city you want with the things you need for your research." Cause, you know, Crowning is the closest thing they have to an expert on summoning the only thing that can fight their enemy.
Note: I don't mean Crowning actually taking the offer. I just mean that we've seen a whole lot of sympathy for Jersey and her problems and not a single drop for our dear Professor.
I can actually see that.(As for Hood, she slips into a Scottish brogue when she's frustrated/stressed enough)
It does seem odd that we don't see a few people speaking out against Jersey, but at the same time there are some issues that would prevent it. If I recall, we did read some people feeling bad for the professor, but not knowing what to say, which is pretty common. It's also common to not want to involve ourselves in others personal matters. From the ship girl side, their understandings of sexual mores seem kind of limited. Even the beloved prudebote was willing to throw herself to a man she didn't love just to do something nice for for his daughter. It seems that they are generally happy about things that make other shipgirls happy, but don't understand or have limited understanding of how it could hurt others. As far as Sarah and the other humans are concerned, it can be difficult to a) address personal anger towards a superpowerful battleship and b) address personal anger to someone when you have to preface it with "permission to speak freely?", because most of the human characters closest to Crowning are enlisted. Jersey could have faced more formal correction by being busted down a rank for conduct unbecoming an officer, but that would have involved a courts-martial, which I am sure everyone wanted to avoid. From a real world standpoint, it would be difficult for the writer to include those opinions without bogging down the storyline. It would be nice to see some of this personal detail fleshed out, but that does have impact on writing the story.
As for "bogging down the storyline", well, I'm not sure what to say. But if you're just going to cut out a huge chunk of social interaction, and by proxy a good chunk of the drama you started, why the hell did you even start the drama? Why write this storyline if you aren't going to actually deal with the consequences of it?
If you think 'no large consequences' and unfinished plotlines are bad, you haven't seen the SB thread. Non-stop bitching about the Crowning/Jersey ship sinking.we have instead been shown that it's 'cute battleships doing whatever the hell they want because there aren't any consequences for their actions'.
