Thing is, I'm in the US Navy (as an enlisted sailor), so there's plenty of annoyance on my end that an officer did that. It doesn't surprise me that officers get bored and do dumb stuff, but I end up being the one who has to hear this from other naval personnel complaining about it.
Ouch... yeah, that is true. Um, have some Duckies after hanging out with Naka:

Throw in the the shortage of pilots at the moment and there will be minimal punishment doled out as well. That does make it suck, in that once again, officers in the US military get shielded for their stupidity, while enlisted get hammered for the exact same thing.

My personal opinion is that military shenanigans should be kept as military shenanigans, no civs included. Especially on groups with esteemed history like USN aviators.

Drawing obscene things in the sky is not one of them. Civs automatically included because you draw things in the sky, that everyone can see because there's no law against raising your head and looking up in the sky.

Well... apparently a Royal Air Force pilot did it a few years ago... and the Blue Angels painted a giant penis on one of the buildings at their winter training camp that was visible from space...
Sounds about right.
So very true. Then you got the more fun and harmless stuff...
I am unsurprised.

*Note: This also includes situations like this that end up in news articles where it leads to more training on how NOT to do this...
Okay, yeah, I can see that sucking.

And that is precisely why I have to deal with that shit. Having the job that deals not only with mass media, but with public relations as well puts me in a very delicate position.

Um, sorry about posting that in the first place, then. (I saw it on my nation newssite, thinks 'who would stupid en- there's a twitter feed?', looking it at google, and found the BBC site news)

Also, what happened to said pilot? Got sent to NK as SAM fodder?

From what I've been told here is that pilots are in short supply, so it's certainly possible that the officer could a face serious punishment, but I highly doubt it because they "cannot police morality."

While I'm not familiar with that, I'd have to assume it's more or less the equivalent of the Things Mr. Welch Is No Longer Allowed To Do in an RPG. And you're welcome.
Yup, except for US Army.

What's wrong with the ones with perforations in them? Or just a composition notebook? Also Trapper Keepers, damn that takes me back. I might still have mine somewhere in the pile of stuff I never unpacked after the 3rd move after I left home.

A hundred loads should take me at least half a year to complete, and I'm constantly using my load notebooks. Perforated page notebooks simply fall apart in a few weeks. Composition notebooks are better, but they are normally less than a full page in size, and their bindings tend to fall apart if you fold them fully open.

Fuck you, I'll get around to it when I get around to it...
Jersey: Dude, there's fucking pre-dreads faster than you.

You need to summon Monitor and Merrimack so something will be slower than you.

Actually, HMS Victory has been summoned, so Victory on a completely windless day is slower than JMPer.

Based on the Navy's public statement, the pilots (there were two) involved will probably face some punishment worth noting, partly because this is so blatantly public, and partly because of the whole poor judgement "do we want this fucker commanding a CVW someday, much less a CVN?" thing. (The Blue Angels bit was done on the roof of the building, where only those flying overhead could see it--which, given it was Pensacola, greatly reduced the odds of a civilian seeing it.)

My guess is that they'll get an official Letter of Reprimand sent, which may not be enough to end their careers outright, but it'll prevent them from getting past LCDR, for certain; if they don't get that sort of official punishment, they'll certainly be passed over for promotion next time they come up, which, again, will make it much harder for them to get promoted any time they go past LCDR, due to the records of the board noting the cause for the passing-over. (The causes would be "exhibiting poor judgement and questionable moral character," most likely, plus the possibility of throwing in "wasting Navy funds on actions with no training value"; this would be for either punishment.)

(Irony: My initial reaction to all this, as a Denizen of the Internet who's used to far worse? "Never change, Tailhook, never change!")

Not sure if there is any particular ship girls you could ascribe this line to. Maybe any of the mom-botes.

That was refers on Albert's An American Geek in Halkeginia on SB. First kind of talk is what would you expect from normal bees and birds and dockyard talk.

The Other Talk referd to more... practical problem-solving and troubleshooting. And yes, that means problems and troubles had/ very close to happened.
