Since we've talked about museum ship news before here... got some bad news. Acadia has lost one of her own in the form of Erik the Red, who was the ship's cat and rodent control officer for more then fifteen years and only retired two years ago who died on Tuesday at likely more then twenty years old as he's been on her since 1997:
Erik the Red, beloved cat on Halifax ship, dies after brief illness
Of course, as befitting an Officer of his standing, he'll be receiving a burial at sea.

so, I got these...
Cali I actually got a week ago or so and have most of the way done.
Monty, well... so. many. PE parts. 54 1/700 Oerlikon gun shields. Jeez...
Mo, I really like Academy now. It looks so easy to build, and it comes with colored parts. Of course, as a self-respecting naval enthusiast I will paint it so it doesn't look like a 12-year-old did it. Naturally, that means painting in Navy Camo.

Closest any Montana got to being laid down is in their powerplant (design) being borrowed for the Midways, IIRC.

The Montanas had completed Detail Design, so technically they could have been laid down pretty much on demand.

Wasn't it just the hull number BB-66 that was re-ordered as an Iowa and not Kentucky specifically?

Well, yes. But I think Illinois and Kentucky were right after Montana in the naming sequence.

I think that battleship is more frightening than a super carrier. A carrier will fight you at arms length. A battleship will look you in the eyes and laugh as everything you throw at her does nothing while she batters you senseless.

Before we start the whole "reactivate the Iowas" thing, I feel it important to point out that they're over 70 years old and a new modern battleship built for a modern war would be much better. Modern, but still a battleship with armor worthy of the name.
