Reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllllllllly, now folks, y'all can't see another solution?

Tsk, tsk.

One word: Mustang.

That's if it goes father than it is, if it's for real serious? Williams does have an option over "break them up, or Wash goes to Portsmouth..."

Note my point about 'chain of command' It's really also applies into _unit_ (and FYI, for this purpose, generally assume units are (for the army) Company sized... (Navy uses divisions I believe, but I could be mistaken.) But, the officer/NCO divide is if caught, crash. and. burn. Period. That one isn't winked at, allowed or otherwise played with by wise officers or JAG, much less NCIS or IG. But, it's _officer/NCO_, in primus.

That IS a solution that results in much less heartbroken Wash.

This really is kind of the problem of trying to apply the UCMJ to ships reincarnated as people. A large number of them are, at best, eccentric. And the Destroyers are ALL mad, children or both. The anime version of KanColle seems to treat the only actual military on base as the Admiral himself, and the rest of the operation is more.. the naturally occurring ecology of warships allowed to play out on its own.

Which is a combination of heavily armed school field trip and madhouse excursion.

Gearhead got it, but FYI: Mustang is slang (AF, Army mostly, though the Marines use it too, so does the Navy) for "COMMISIONED Officer from the enlisted ranks" or, prior service as an enlisted man, before accepting your commission.
I'm one.

Wartime, Williams can easily push though a reserve commission if Gale doesn't meet the requirements to get a commission, or SecNav can make it happen.

Still grey area, but technically, they'd be in 'different' units (example would be a pilot on a carrier dating an nuclear engineering officer. Sept chain of commands). or enough that no one would bother JAG one bit.

But until Williams _knows_ which it is... Losing a competent NCO isn't to be done.

And yes, I agree with Gearhead... sticky widget, so treating them all as SEALS, works well (Seals get more leeway, by and large, but there are clear cut lines they can't cross. Williams and Goto want to make that DAMMED clear.)

To be fair, Gale deserves a medal for putting up with the Taffys and not only not having a psychotic episode but actually managing to make the little terrors going out into a PR positive event.

EDIT: On the other hand, with higher rank comes more loon wrangling.

I never said that it'd be a REWARD, did I, now?
Williams will gloat evilly.

Side note; Per what I was told (and I verified it later, so..) at least in 89, the paperwork to process a mustang was _exactly_ the same amount of paperwork needed to send an enlisted man to JAG on a formal request for a General Court Marital.

Take that for what you will...

Fixed. Seriously.

I think Tenryuu is the only one who doesn't have too hard of a time corralling the insane murderballs. Although, come to think of it, that may be because her destroyers are pretty tame compared to the American ones.

I mean, they're not any saner, but they're less... shenanigan prone. And much less accident prone than poor Dee.

*blinks* Are you trying to apply current unmodified UCMJ to a conflict with incarnated ship spirits fighting shadows from the Abyss???

Given canon relationships (Kongo/Goto and Richardson/his entire household) and the professionalism or lack thereof of the shipgirl officers (Taffy 3, for example); my money is on a rewrite that separates shipgirls from human personnel.

Unless you think JAG is really going to jump on a ship captain and an ashore yeoman in the parent unit in a personal relationship.

Am i the only one surprised Jersey didnt deck Musashi for posting about their private time for all to see? Especally Crowning?

And I guess theJMPer just sunk my battleship...ship. :p

Whelp. Gotta wonder which one of those is the worse punishment.
If you cannot see or hear a Destroyer, you will find out what horrible thing they have done soon enough.

The second someone seriously mentions handing the Taffies or anything under three thousand tons a commission, I will have to break out my capslock and image macros to explain that they should obviously be WOs.

I just leave it here.

I said "less shenanigan prone." I admit that's not saying much, but compared to, say, Kidd and her never-ending supply of rum, Dee and her unending (and hilarious!) accidents, and the Taffies... well, everything.

Occasional bouts of excessive enthusiasm are far less taxing.

A: Gato has no ROMATIC relationship, with Kongou, and I, while I THINK the JSDMF(I don't know for sure, and don't feel like digging to find out. IJN sure as hell didn't,) has anti frat regs, I can tell you that Japan's got an habit of ... selective enforcement, and that'd be one (Long story short: It's only been recently, as in this generation of field grade officers!) that women could expect NOT to be tea serving girls, or more or less be thought of as husband hunters, as far as I know)
That covers MOST of your points, except Ari, and actually, Ari might not be aware of the frat reg, or not thinking it applies to them. Remember when she died. Only women _at all in the Navy_ were NURSES, and since I haven't checked to be sure, I can tell you it wasn't UNCOMMON for nurses to marry other officers (see note about JSDMF... and apply it to 1940 values)
But Jinstu under USMCJ is OFF LIMITS PERIOD. He MIGHT get out of Mustu or Hiel. But Jinstu? NWIH.
Unless you think JAG is really going to jump on a ship captain and an ashore yeoman in the parent unit in a personal relationship.
Yes.
OFFICER AND ENLISTED.
No ifs, ands or buts. That's crash and burn.
Even if in DIFFERENT units.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't the issue of Wash and Gale depend on how shipgirls are counted? I mean, shipgirls might well be counted as "Shipborne personnel" while Gale would be counted as "Shore personnel" which I would think would be enough separation.

Then again, I am used to the Canadian Forces and how you can have a married couple both enlisted and based in the same location.

Harry, it's USMCJ.
Wash is an commissioned officer, by act of Congress, and she accepted the rank
Gale is enlisted.
It won't matter if she was a different SERVICE.
Officer and enlisted fraternization regs and the punishments and the fact that JAG doesn't play if they hear about it, one bit, is ironclad. No ifs, ands or buts.
(There IS one and ONLY one exception, but doesn't apply here.)
As for married couples serving 'together' as in same base or same ship? I covered that. Generally, as there's no 'usual' direct command authority involved. (ie, they both report to the same commanding officer directly, or same reviewer, depending on certain things, or one's over the other DIRECTLY in a chain of command, it's fine in US law, too: Example. You have an arty battalion. Lt. Jane Jones is married to Lt. John Johns. Solution? Assign them to different batteries, under different captains. No Frat reg violation.)

7734: Pretty much what the one case I had to defend a brother officer on, WAS about.
Won't go into the details, but suffice it to say...

Oh, forgot to mention the OTHER solution to Wash's problem.
There IS Gale asking for compassionate separation.

Like I said, I'm mostly going by what I know of the Canadian Forces for military in regards to this. It's not really that odd to get a husband and wife serving in the same operation for example and once in a while they might serve in the same battalion or company. It's just an unwritten rule that usually they'd be placed in different battalions in the above case, though they can challenge that.

While becoming a Mustang is one potential route for Gale, to preserve Wash's happiness, another potential might be for her to become a Warrant officer, which may be possible without an officer training school. Based on what we've seen, she does seem to be performing aN important, specialized job which requires at least some ability to disagree with officers. I do not believe WOs are barred from fraternizing with officers.

Failing that, Gale could simply choose to end her enlistment and become a contractor. If Wash gets sufficiently unhappy about the situation, rules will be broken to keep her happy.
