I just want to respectfully remind everyone to keep the roleplaying to a minimum here. This is a story thread, not a roleplay thread.

Thank you.

You know given what Jersey's managed to do to them in mere months, you'd figure Abyssal SOP would be not to even scratch the paint on an Iowa, least they come back and form a Iowa wolfpack with Jersey

Or a Montana class Fast Battleship, the one with armor to resist Mark VIII APC rounds from 16in/50 caliber rounds and capable of doing 30 knots!

Or you know, that stupid crazy 500,000 ton Battleship that the Japanese designed but never built for obvious reasons.

Yes, the thread full of ship geeks knows the basic capabilities of the Montana design. Which will never appear in this fic except possibly as an Abyssal because they were never built.

What about that 500,000 ton displacement battleship that one Japanese warship designer cooked up? What would the capabilites of that thing be? Because I don't know what they would be.
Nothing, since it seems that an Abyssal requires at least something to have been laid down for them to come back (such as the 1000 ton habukak (habbukuk? Hubbacuk?) model, or Tosa's hull that was later scraped or used as a target or something) and it's a stretch to say the Montanas were laid down, so there's no way any of the crazy super battleships will come back (except maybe the Stalin's Republics, which were basically slower, communist Iowas IIRC)

Also @Thorthemighty can you provide a link or something to prove that these supership designs were real things because I haven't seen any reference to them anywhere.

He's talking about the Kaneda Battleship Proposal for the Japanese one. Not quite sure if it was real or fake though. The Abyssals are more likely to use the A-150 though.
Thanks for the name. The A-150s were never laid down because of all of Japan's fun economic problems at the time (at least, I've never found reference to them being laid down), so they're out. Montana, however, was laid down, then they switched the hull over to Illinois after carriers turned out to be as great as they were.

Edit: So looking it up it turns out some commander went "Dude. We don't have the resources to build a bunch of ships, so why don't we build one really, really big ship."

It's also from 1912

Also, this:

Definitely fictional, but highly amusing none the less.

There isn't a wikipedia entry on it, but it's the 'Kaneda battleship'. Thor is also demonstrating he knows as much naval engineering as the guy who 'designed' this, because it's supposed to reach 42 knots with that displacement, and only had armor set to 1914 standards.
It's less practical than Carrier!Jersey, and that's saying something.

Carrier!Jersey is kinda-sorta practical. It wouldn't be the best conversion, but at least she's fast enough to be a proper carrier.

Battlecarrier!Jersey, though, is just dumb.

Let's be frank, the Kaneda was basically the Japanese version of the Tillman Maximum Battleship. Except, you know, even worse.

I'm googling around a little, and the earliest reference to the Kaneda proposal I could find was a thread on AlternateHistory.com about never-built military hardware, where someone posted it and referenced finding the design posted on the Warship Projects forum, which is now a subforum of the World of Warships EU forums. The original post referenced is likely lost.

Assuming it even existed, the Kaneda proposal was one commander's idea to build a single battleship instead of an entire fleet.

I've heard hearsay of rumors of salty stories that there was a turret kinda built for the A-150.

I may also have been inebriated at the time, so take even that with yet more salt.

That is physically painful to look at.

There's a reason why I list it under "Not sure if Hoax" because I have never seen it referenced outside those places. Especially seeing as the H-45 is an outright hoax that hoodwinked people.

It's the closest we've come to Enuff Dakka in a single thing, so there's something going for it.

Kind of sad there were no 48" Main Battery guns and four foot thick armor or some ridiculous BS like that because it's still not Orky enough

Well, the later Tillman designs were actually pretty darn nasty ships, since they were designed by C&R. Some of the spring styles I've seen of them are terrifying (HOW MANY GUNS???) and you can certainly see the evolution of the Standards towards the original SoDaks in them. The Wells Brothers' Battleship Index: The Tillman Battleships has some good information on them, take a look at Design IV-2 for example (of course, Design 4 is just.... LOLWUT? SEXTUPLE 16"/50 turrets?)
