The Video call to Roy was something of a shock to you, seeing him look into the screen from a room that was more akin to a hospital room than the room for his home. "Roy." You said with a cautious smile. "I didn't think you would pick up."
"With everything that has happened, and you dumped with the job, I don't blame you for calling." He said. "But… you can-"
"I can see." His son was dying, slowly but surely. "I just want to ask a few questions, get an insight on anything about what happened. And what this means?"
There was a laugh. "We should have brought Curly into this, maybe she could have helped with the situation that I find myself in."
"What's that?"
"We played god Tao…" The nickname from college made you flinch. "We created life not through evolution but through computer code." He frowned as he looked at his son. "And it's impossible to just think about it all, and wonder what might happen if we just… stayed the course. Watched it."
"We couldn't have known that," you replied. "And it's not enough to assuage our guilt. And we need to make sure that what we create doesn't destroy us all. You saw the barrier."
"I did, and honestly, I'm scared not of that, but what built it." He said.
"Do you have any ideas?" You asked.
"No… unless you think that the Digimon are so advanced they, have developed technology beyond our comprehension." He said.
"That might be. Roy." You paused. "I don't know how to help you."
"Neither do I Janyu. Neither do I." He then looked over to his coughing son. "I need to-"
"Go." You replied.
The view screen went dark, leaving you alone with static.
Reward: Something, some ideas begin formulating in your head.
New Actions Available.

[X]A Salary Akin to your Sacrifices: You are not being paid for any of this, despite it being an incredibly urgent inevitability that needs to happen. You do not want to have your home repossessed because you were not paid, or working a second job when your entire focus needs to be on this. DC: 50 Rolled

You looked at the agent that was overseeing the project. "I don't see how I have to work two separate positions in this, and provide funding for myself. How can I feed my family when I am forced to make do?"
"The Ministry of Technology is still trying to debate the necessary resources to give you Dr. Wong," he stated.
"Well tell them to debate faster, because I have several hypotheses that I have come up with, and none of them are looking good."
Failure. No actions were lost due to leftover money.

[X]The Monsters (Part 1): Maybe the Namco Bandi books can give you an idea of what the Digimon actually are, and if any have changed since the original Monster project. DC: 50 Rolled:

Bandi Namco… you always call them Namco bandi because it annoys your children, have been slowly expanding the Digimon brand ever since they purchased it from you and the Monster makers.
After 1988, when they released the first Digimon card game, it took the world by storm, and by 91, it was the second most popular card game in the world, only being beaten out by Duel Monsters by Maximilian Pegasus.
But each year they released new monsters that would complement tournament rules, and each year, the roster of monsters grew exponentially.
You would have chalked it up to simple creativity, after all, tons of artists were capable of doing great things.
Yet there was a problem. There was only one artist credited for the designs on the cards and their descriptions.
You would have chalked it up to just artists being screwed over by the big bad corporation, but this was different.
The company denies that the artist even exists, hell they have no payment or paper trails to even think that they aren't paying someone, or hiding the money.
Only the name, Sovereign.
It was more than enough to get you digging, but only enough to know that the company's power output and electrical bills skyrocketed after 1988 when they first released the Digimon card game and the franchise began.
You had questions, possibly, and ideas. But one stuck out to you the most.
What if Sovereign was a link to the digital world, and that's how monsters were constantly added to the roster?
You had no proof of this, but… you had a gut feeling.
Reward: You have a sneaking suspicion that Bandi Namco might have an unsolicited, and secret link to the digital world, where they are engaging in some sort of trade with a being known as Sovereign.
You have no proof of this, and anyone would consider it laughable… but, too many coincidences are starting to blur together.
And too many questions are going unanswered for it to be impossible.

[X]Spend time with your Family: You need to balance your work and your personal life and make sure things don't get strange. Or strained. DC: 0 Rolled:

The kids were sleeping as you finished putting away the dishes. "I'm sorry that this has caused more pressure on you than I wanted." You said to your wife as you finished the dishes.
She only smiled. "Well at least you're doing something, but I'm still amazed that they won't pay you anything more. You will have to go back to work just so we can pay the rent."
"I know, I'll try again, and see what is going on."
There was a squeeze on your shoulder. "You know when you talked about the monster makers and the Digimon when we first dated, I thought it was something wonderfully cockey. Just a game. And that it would just be a cool story to tell our kids."
You sighed. "Roy made the monsters for his son, well at least that was the idea of them. He was going through the first round of Chemotherapy, and he wanted to help his dad, so he gave the idea for them to evolve. We put that code in and… they did. After time."
"So the Digimon were to help Roy's son through cancer?"
"Yep. He wanted him to have a partner that would always be by his side through the greatest dangers that life could happen, and never betray him, or leave him." You replied. "Now that all this is happening…" You paused and thought about your children, wondering if they would be able to have companions like that too?
"What?" she asked.
"Nothing, never mind." You said.
Reward: There were talks, and seeds were planted for the future.
AN: Enjoy and please give me some feedback, I'd love to have some.
