Notable Sentinels II (Used For Initial Astartes Notables)(+10 to roll of your choice)I
If you don't mind @Travler66 I'd like to add in a few characters of my own to the thread.

6th Company Lady Commander: Pavli Chenko
"The nature of these worlds will be preserved."

A rather antisocial child since birth, Pavli spent a majority of her time exploring the forests of her homeworld studying the landscape and the creatures that inhabit it. Her original plans were to grow up and become a park ranger to maintain the lands that she cherishes, but upon news of a massive Ork Armada approaching Bastion space, Pavli determined one of the better ways to preserve protect her lands was to enlist in Lady Serras Legion Astartes program. Using her trained knowledge of wilderness exploration and tracking abilities to the fullest, Pavli was quickly able to rise in the ranks of the Legion Reconnaissance Squads and eventually to her current post as Lady Commander.

She is often seen surveying new areas to sate her curiosity whenever she isn't tweaking with her Spider Bots, one of her more favored gadgets when it comes to spotting enemies and their potential weak points.

Pavli specializes in scouting, sniping and tracking.

7th Company Lady Commander: Xie Yi

"Even when all seems lost, as long as we stand together nothing is impossible."

On many worlds of the Bastion, there are many more people of all kinds and aptitudes, people who supported the world with their grandiose designs, people who maintained it for everyone with their various skills, and then there was Xie Yi. Truth be told she wasn't a bad child, just not particularly noteworthy from an early age, her teens and then her late teens. Aside from a slight aptitude and interest in Do It Yourself kits Xie Yi only applied the bare minimum and spent her days with friends and family.

Eventually this would come to a head when thoughts of what she could do with her life started to surface and echo in her mind. Hadn't she remembered that she received a message regarding the Silver Sentinels she would have drifted through her days as she always had. As soon as she landed in the training zones Xie Yi was renewed with vigour and studied all she can with enthusiasm. Her previous interest in gizmo kits eventually blossomed through the harsh training of the Astartes and Xie Yi was able to find her true calling as a Techmarine. While she was not the most inventive of the Techmarines in her field, her ability to coordinate groups thanks for her social behaviors was able to allow success even amongst the most heated of individuals. This was most exemplified when no matter what composition of people she was assigned to, they were able to complete repairs and upgrades no matter how complicated the job or damaged the equipment.

Xie specializes in ranged weaponry and rapid repairs.

8th Company Champion: Tenry Neteru

"I intended to do that."
- Company Champion Neteru after crashing through multiple Ork Nobs

Eldar, an ancient psyker race whose empire once spanned the galaxy. And Tenry was their biggest fan. Or so they claim. Eldar were only around for a few years but not long after Tenry became utterly infatuated with the Eldar and all they had to offer. Once they boarded a ship unauthorized in attempts to travel to the Quenya craftworld. Although they somehow managed to evade capture as soon as one Eldar greeted them Tenry collapsed, unable to form a coherent response.

Much to their luck Tenry was allowed to stay for a brief respite provided they acted on their utmost behavior. A quick tour lead her to the Eldar's jetbike division, and they were utterly dazzled by their complex maneuvers and ability to skewer the enemy no matter how nimble or tough they were.

While Tenry was unable to join the Eldar for obvious reasons, when the opportunity arrived she did the next best thing: Try to see if they were geneseed compatible. Their love of jetbikes only grew as they were given the opportunity by engineers of the Bastion to test drive multiple models for Astartes use. On one hand had they focused more on driving than attempting to perform the same maneuvers the Eldar took years of their life to master Tenry would have sustained less injuries. On the other hand, thanks to that same recklessness and intent on catching up to their Eldar idols Tenry became one of the most adept Jetbike Riders in the Silver Sentinels.

Tenry specializes in hit and run tactics.

I hope for her sake she doesn't end up as obscure as the White Scars.

B-Team (Canon)(Teamwork Heroes)(Count As Paragon Combat Hero In Group, Only Normal Heroes Alone)(+10 to roll of your choice)
The B-Team

It was a quiet night in the 21st legions medhall, made all the more reverent due to the sheer number of Astartes waiting to know the fate of their latest member. Such a gathering would not be had if not for what made that member special: he was to be their newest Brother. It was not that they feared he would not survive the process, no, they feared he would turn out like the other four...Brothers in the Legion. At last the time was at hand for his Medi-pod, used only in some of the edge cases to assist in the final stages of the transformation, to open and declare to the world, and the local betting pool, what sort of marine he would be.

"...Hello? Is this thing locked?" Came a small voice from the pod accompanied by a light thump "Ow." The attending medicae went to open the pod when the mood was suddenly dashed when the ceiling collapsed, scattering the Sisters.

"Great Bastion's Brigades! The situation's worse than I feared!" Exclaimed the captian of the 21st's most notorious, and smallest, team as he sprang from the crashed grav-bike. "Rico, smoke grenades! Kowalski, pop the tub and toss out the bathwater! We got a Brother to save!"

The collection of Astartes groaned when they realized who had appeared: Tom "Skipper" McGrath, leader of the so called "B-Team."

"Sorry to drop in, Ladies, but I can't let my latest Brother get the wrong idea about the Legion." Skipper drawled. "Not after what happened with Barry."

"Bruce." Kowalski corrected.

"Bruce." Skipper continued without skipping a beat as smoke filled the room. "Came out the pod, saw you steel haired lot, and BOOM! Lost all sense of Adventure!"

"He got assigned to help with the diplomatic squads, you idiot." Shot back one of the sisters who had recovered faster than the others. "And he requested the transfer after you tried to blow up an Ork Gargant from the inside!"

"Like I said: no sense of Adventure! Kowalski, what's taking so long with the pod?" Skipper shot back, tossing his own smoke grenade into the crowd.

"Sir, it's hopeless. These medicae seemed to have planned for us and put a lock on the pod. I've shot the screen and nothing's worked."

"Sierra's Sacred Salad! They've thought of everything! Quick, rig an explosive at the base! Rico, prep the bike for a wide load! We're going trucking."

That was the last thing the collected marines heard before the subsequent explosion and victorious laughter hailed the exit of the legion's most feared and respected specialist team.

"Somebody get Tenry on the line and tell her to get off her bike and get those idiots in line...again!"

~~~~later~~~~
"Rise and shine, Private. Time to greet your glorious future on the team." Skipper intoned, pulling their latest Brother from the charred slag that used to be a Medi-pod.
"Wot." The newly dubbed Private said as he wiped away the last of the medigel from his eyes to see the shortest Astartes he'd ever seen in front of him smiling ear to ear. He blinked again as he took in the source of the other two voices he'd heard as they fought a growing and extremely green fire burning away at the remains of what could only be described as the Orkiest grav bike anyone had ever seen.
"Ha!" cried the Skipper "Barely out the egg and already fishing for information. Just what I like to see in fresh faced recruits! Rico! Stop playing with that fire and get the Private his gene-day cake! We gotta do a proper welcome of the newest member of...B-TEAM!"
***I happened to get to watching some Penguins of Madagascar clips. Noticed we hadn't done any character bits for the few Brothers we'd get in the legion. It felt natural. Also, tried to think of a good harem protag name to use instead of Derrick/Dave for the name joke but couldn't think of anything except Sephiroth (not that he's a harem protag) but I didn't think that'd be quite as funny. Oh well. Hope yall like this.
Yay author cross works!
I'm on desktop in chrome. I can't see it either.
Also, sorry, stole one of your character names for my little story.
No need to apologize at all. I love this stuff! Also wonderful to see a bunch of goofs try to do things with complete sincerity. Dang it Tenry if you focused more on being a grown up instead of goofing off you might actually be Lady Commander XD
I'm having trouble seeing pictures 1 & 3. Out of curiosity, what hosting site did you use @Wind-Up Citrus?
Gelbooru.
Nope, laptop, chrome.
Strange. I'm on laptop and chrome and I can still see it.
I'll reupload the two onto other sites. Tell me if you can see them.
I picked her for a couple reasons.
A) she was one of the three that was right there and the other two were too serious.
B) with the quote at the beginning and the whole "ad-hoc plans and luck" being the whole penguin shtick made it seem like they'd get along. The B-Team (read: A-Team parody) wouldn't and couldn't be separate from the rest of the Legion just because they're boys, so they fall under someone else.
C) She read as being the most exciting and daring of the characters I can remember in the thread.
Shoot, @ilbgar123, I totally forgot to put in a list of the aliens and their function inside the society, will fix.
Humans generally look a lot like avatars from XCOM 2, with the purple glowy eyes and floating hair, or at least those that don't get extensive cybernetics or become Codexs do, humans here have a number of inborn abilities originally taken from native flora and fauna and incorporated into their own genome, this includes but is not limited to the near universal psyker powers, which on average are in the gamma band, generally improved physiology which results in a 30% increase in capabilities across the board, further enhanced leg structures that allow them to take leaps, jumps and falls that would seriously injure those without it, an echo-location ability and extreme low light vision for navigation in their darkened environment, an enhanced healing factor, and an electrostatic skin that acts as both another detection system by letting them detect the electrical impulses of another animal and a last line of defence against those that get them into a grapple by giving them an electric shock.
Codices are rare, about one in every million, humans which have a unique, and the only, rejection reaction to meld that, rather painfully, causes their non-neurological tissue to rapidly degrade while keeping the rest alive and compressing it into a smaller, vaguely crystalline, package while simultaneously increasing all their mental capabilities by at least an order of magnitude to encompass higher and lower order dimensions (that is to say that part of their awareness is permanently in the warp, another part is in sub space while others are in any other spaces you want to name, even time is no longer a barrier to their awareness even if the can't understand or communicate what the do), these near immortal, but fragile, compressed brains are then transferred into and fused with a mechanical skull sized and shaped container which helps focus about half of their awareness/attention on real-space and their psychic power into creating an artificial body.
Their abilities are based around this unique existence with their teleportation being them temporarily shifting into another dimension and back and the rift opening short lived holes between different dimensional spaces, the actual damage is caused by the energies released in the aftermath rather than the holes themselves.
The outsider crystals were the original system by which the immortal brains now known as codices were able to interact with the physical world, before the codex brain cases were created the immortal brains would be sealed in heavily reinforced vaults and connected to a transmitter crystal which funnelled their power and part of their consciousness to a receiver crystal to have an energy body created around the receiver.
Since the creation of the codex brain cases this system has found another purpose in providing disposable bodies for field use by the non-combatants of the inhabitants, namely involving exploration of the ever-changing lower layers of their world, hunting dangerous monsters or the semi-regular intercity wars, they are used via a person holding the transmitter crystal and projecting their minds into it.
Mects are humans who have traded most of their organic bodies and all of their psyker abilities (though is does effectively make them sort of like blanks) to become humanoid heavy weapons platforms capable of carrying and using weapons powerful enough to take out some of the toughest creatures around, small, fast and agile enough to actually get where they need to go and tough enough to duke it out with them, these people are honoured and venerated for their sacrifices and capabilities, considering they have given up about two thirds of their organic bodies, their ability to look human and mental powers for even greater physical power.
These guys are like a cross between a tech priest and a small dreadnought coming out at about the size of terminator armour, as such they are capable of interfacing with purely or partially mechanical devices and are strong and tough enough to at least pose a challenge to the average 30k Astartes, so it's not all bad.
Even rarer than Codices sitting at around one in every ten million are Avatars, through a combination of technopathic and biokinetic Psyker powers and great willpower when first injected with a base/new batch of meld undergo a shocking and destructive metamorphosis which rapidly converts half their bodies and much of the surrounding material into Meld nano-tech, this process also creates enough spare Meld for at least one hundred other people so the damage is forgiven rather quickly, this allows the Avatars to contain vastly more alterations than 'normal' humans and allows for some rather heavy cybernetics without losing their psyker powers which have now been boosted to the Beta band of power.
It is theorised that these individuals would have the same rejection reaction as the codices if they didn't have their powers or willpower because scans of their brains have shown that they have crystal like structures on and in their brains and them also being able to perceive the alternate worlds that the codices can and open rifts as well.
The best (as in top 5) of the Avatars is comparable to, current, neophyte marines in combat though they have different strengths and weaknesses to them, the rest fall somewhere between elite troops and, current, neophyte marines.
Pretty sure I'm finished with the humans now, mind reading and reviewing people?
Reminders
Small Sectoids act a lot like mobile, organic and partially self-networking computer and communication systems with the added bonus of being able to do light physical work like basic maintenance with the small basic grey ones acting as terminals which can store and process data and short range communicators, the tall ones on the other hand were made for more demanding work including working out in the field with human troops, the medium ones with the larger red brains/heads work as a sort of central processing and uplink unit with the ability to connect to others of its kind or humans over long distances, a sectoids powers are limited in scope to purely telepathy and are strictly non-sapient.
Mutons and Viper were near sapient species that were uplifted and live beside the humans.
Spectres are gonna be annoying to work with.
Nice reasonings, more thought than I put in imo. My headcanon regarding them was that the actual Seventh Company Lady Commander does consider Tenry one of the best but their outlandishness and perpetual ticking off the techmarines with their antics meant that Tenry could only gel well with others like them and can't advance in rank. Therefore the Seventh keeps Tenry on the vanguard.
For everyone it's a great deal. Tenry is allowed to use their tactics fullest potential with like minded people and the Seventh Commander can actually get things done without the other company members losing their cool. (And secretly hoping these hotheads perish. They never seem to.)
Gosh, with Shade's avatars, and Avatars of Kaine, there could be some confusion.
Actually, those could be pretty cool worlds.
The Elemental Nations: Four nations with elemental psyker powers corresponding to the particular element.
Pandora: Blue humanoids who use their psyker abilities to form a pseudo-hive mind out of their entire planet.
DAMNIT!! I just realized I should have used Barry/Bruce for the name joke and alluded to the fifth Legion Brother being too-cool for shenanigans Batman.
I mean. Look at the minor typo edit I made to the story. Doesn't it just wipe away all the shame of my life for today?
Also, no one want to comment of me naming the medical device after a pokemon?
Ok, I have read the last chapter, and I have to admit, I am sure that a lot of it flew over my head. May I suggest putting the checks and bonus into spoilers? Each one is worth a paragraph on their own, which becomes confusing at the end, though I understand if you and others don't like this idea.
(Also, wow. This thread advance really fast.)
Where temperance restricted the extremes of emotion, Emotion Crystals, resembling rainbow starbursts with red at the center and violet at the fringes, amplified feelings and desires. However, they could also begin to engender them in those who had weaker or lacking emotions. A sociopath could be made to feel remorse for their actions despite their usual lack of such (AN: I recognize it's more complicated than that, but I'm not going to vomit up psychology textbooks and dump them into the story). Psychopaths, which were essentially more extreme sociopaths, tended to require higher tiers, but could have the same result accomplished.
Although, such things were something of a risk, as this also amplified aggression as it qualified as an emotion. Still, low-level ones were used by therapists to get genuine reactions out of their more self-deceiving or intentionally reticent patients. Similarly, restaurants and other places where the atmosphere was part of the appeal used low-end ones to enhance the effect. A net gain overall.
Reward: Gained Tenth-Tier Emotion Crystal/Rune. This Rune enhances the emotions of those under it's influence, even if they would normally lack them. Reduction to hidden Stress Stat and permanent reduction to future increases. Permanent boost to effectiveness of actions which reduce Stress. +25 to Industry. +250 to Morale Rolls. +1000 to Psyker Checks.
Memory is an interesting one. It takes the form of a sphere of crystal with tendrils reaching out to the world around it. Those who had lost their memories completely will first regain a dim recollection, gradually becoming clearer as they spend time around the crystal, though the grade of crystal determines both the speed at which this occurs and how much they retain once they leave the zone of its effects, which is small due to memories being something a person tends to guard, rather than something completely internal. The phrase 'times we shared' exists, and taking the time to form memories with those you care about is a common theme of many stories. Tenth-tiers more or less allow for full recollection, which is great for those whose memories had been lost with age or from head injuries. It was even effective in dealing with retrograde amnesia, which made sense as not being able to form new memories was just as deeply tied to memory as losing old ones.
However, the crystals do not discriminate between good memories and bad ones. For example, this begins to restore more and more early memories as time passes, such as being born in extreme cases. Supposedly one scientist actually built a memory-erasing ray in desperation to remove the memory, and it apparently worked, because he can't remember being born. Unfortunately he also erased the previous week, so he has no idea how to replicate the device, which was smashed as he dropped it upon using it on himself. PTSD victims tend to end up just as bad as when the PTSD first started after any prolonged exposure to the Memory Crystals, as the wounds are ripped open again. On the other hand, studying is easier, as one retains information for longer with less effort.
Reward: Gained Tenth-Tier Memory Crystal/Rune. This Rune restores memories and aids in the retention of them, for good or ill. Getting Skills to 100 is much easier for mortals, essentially a +5 to all Skill training up to that point. +25 to Industry. +250 to Morale Rolls. +1000 to Psyker Checks.
...Now I really want to know what would happen if a Dark Eldar got close to both of these.
I mean, I know that they can feel and actually depend on others emotions, but actually being forced to understand and identify the emotions of 'lesser beings' while also remembering all the times they abused somebody in their long lifespan can't be good, though that will probably only apply to the future, as they have literally been unable to get out of the warp since The Fall and I am pretty sure they didn't have that much of an interest in other races before they started depending on them.
Also, another thing that I can't help but think about.
There are probably a few outcast Eldars going around in our words, right? (I know I asked this before, but I can't remember the answer.) And some of our words are Knight Words, which are pretty much in medieval stasis + mechas, right?
So, why can't I stop thinking of one of them having a spar with a knight in full medieval armor? Maybe it is because the Eldar wear relatively archaic-looking (ceremonial rather than pure practicality) equipment, along with some really big swords. But anyway, just an idea I had.
Also, since we are pretty much fighting alongside the Eldars to reclaim the warp, how do they feel about our advances in militar and general technology?
Knowing their general thoughts towards 'mon'keigh' (Given the current situation, I doubt any of them actually says that in front of a human... or the more grateful Eldars), I would believe that seeing such a young race developing such tech would make them react like this:
Which I find amusing.
wait, Medi-pod. meda pod, Metapod you sunnavagun
QM can explain it better but IIRC Eldrad considers what we're doing for them (giving them soulstones so they don't get nommed by Slaanesh and Psychic Batteries and Runes/Crystals for even safer Psyker use) a very good thing. The Quenya Eldar specifically are grateful and our current relations with them and even have many positions in our schools and other forms of power, just to show that things are even between each other.
Ayyyyy
But seriously, did I do the voices alright? I have this thing about character voice and I fear I didn't quite get Skipper and compensated with too many order sentences, maybe not enough proper descriptive bits between dialogue.
