[X] Attempt to broker a peace agreement between the Dragonflies and the 504s (2 actions)

Well, you have been readying for this eventuality, although perhaps not quite like this. Although if you choose to sit this one out you might be able to just pick up the pieces after.

Select up to 3 options (1 still locked in)

[X] Train Militia II - You can drill your less experienced militia up to proper standards
[X] Proving Grounds Design - While designing the barracks you remembered the more specialized buildings for testing out military hardware and tactics, especially experimental hardware and tactics, from your military history lessons. Perhaps something like that would be useful?
[X] Military Academy Design - Barracks can train up soldiers, but you are going to need officers soon enough. A military academy is a far more specialized centre, but it could have major advantages

Economic
With the hospital built, you now have some options open. The citizens are currently privately building a Chemical Refinery and a Temple in Greengraft, but with your new industrial knowledge you have a lot you could build.

Select 1 option
[X] Build Barracks in Greengraft

Security
With a spy network fully in place, there are now more options for interacting with your neighbours, although some of them aren't exactly friendly options.

[X] Investigate 504s technology
[X] Counter-intelligence - Considering what you did last year, it may be a good idea to actively defend against anyone trying the same on you

You have received a request from Maxwell to try to have more kids to expand the dynasty out a bit, which you suppose he has a point there, although there would be the issue of having to stick around your territory through much of the year, prohibiting major expeditions lead by you.

Is it possible to just send material support to the Dragonflies or provide medical support for both sides? This was such a fuckup on their part that we shouldn't back them militarily but the two of them going at each other could be disastrous for us.
Also holy fuck. We got a great compromise that even kept the nobles their power and they go and try to assassinate the president of the 504. Seriously, the fuck.
I am really tempted to just tell the dragonfly so that we are not going to interfere, they made there bed and they can lay in it. On the other hand that could lead our power block to being vulnerable to raiders. Hard choice on what to do, plus if we don't per idea aid the. Our husband could get pissy, probably should check they are telling the truth to after the last time.

Grave Keeper nods and says, "Peace is good, although peace not necessarily Good. You come here for my flags... but not as Baroness but as She Who Went There and Back Again, so I say good! A storm comes, comes for the growers and the peddlers, so take them in and take them away from it all. I will wait here, smiling."

"A storm comes?" You ask, not liking the sound of that.

Picking up his bones for the last time before shoving them in a pouch, Grave Keeper gets up and nods. "A tree's branches waved just so, and now storm winds begin to blow. Whether a shower or hurricane, I do not know."

He then pauses, reviews what he just said, and giggles at the rhyme. Apparently it hadn't been an entirely conscious decision on his part.

Thinking it over, you ask, "Any advise on which way the wind is blowing?"

"It is circling right now. Trust in slaves but not in chains or chainers, but be careful most of all of your own heart leading you away," Grave Keeper explains enigmatically.

Given that Baron Aetos didn't even bother to deny it and Stearns is missing several fingers I think we can trust them here.
That said Baron Aetos saying nothing is pretty incriminating though he could hardly bring up last time out in public even if Maxwell had told him* of it.

That doesn't really mean a whole lot. Committing to any statement in the surprise of the moment is unwise, and it is often better for a leader to be seen as a monster than as a weakling who cannot control his own people.

Guess that assassination attempt was what the ??? roll from last turn was.

It was a contest between one side with a secret police (whose bonus had been completely nullified, perhaps because they could order the secret police around), and another who had sympathizers giving them a bonus.

The ??? was Maxwell setting up the Dragonfly secret police to take the fall for an "assassination attempt" which miraculously used too little explosive to kill somebody, or even blow the hand off somebody holding the device itself despite the Dragonflies being the experts in chemical explosives.

As much as I hate to play into a plan he didn't share with us, destabilizing the Dragonflies and forcing a peace where the Baron steps down and Maxwell takes over control of the Dragonflies may be the best choice.

Also, jeez people, it is too early to be voting. We need to get this right, and that means actually analyzing and discussing it first.

@Academia Nut : Two things:

1. Exactly what technical data was on the intercepted data pad?
2. Is my token for a free piece of intel still valid?

If that really is what happened, he really should tell us, somehow. I mean, Maxwell does realize that our unfeigned, real reactions and decisions might go in a way that screws up his plans.

-or be the best way to convince everybody, including professional liars, of Greengraft's innocence. He may step in if we are in the process of making a harmful decision, but our sincerely innocent reactions only help sell his gambit.

Plus, he may not be entirely loyal to us, or at least not happy being a perpetual second fiddle. This is his chance to simultaneously get revenge, resolve all of the tensions in the area, and stop a war of annihilation by graciously acquiescing to calls to become the popular and widely-endorsed leader of the Dragonflies.

It's actually a pretty good deal for us, but he still might not like us knowing about it and almost certainly wants the greater ability to manipulate the situation which comes with none of the major faction leaders knowing that he has any part in any of it. Plus, the whole thing only just went down, and if he had told us before confirmation that the bomb had done its work there is a good chance that we would have tried to prevent it.

It was part of the technical schematics for the backup fusion reactor. They sent an "incomplete" message and got the rest of it. They have been keeping everything under wraps for a while now.

And yes, you can get a piece of free intel. Which faction do you want it on?

I swear, Anna just can't catch a dice break. Poor girl.

[X] Attempt to broker a peace agreement between the Dragonflies and the 504s (2 actions)
-[x] Use the fact that the Dragonflies attempted to frame us to force them to give us concessions to broker a peace instead of leaving them to face the 504s alone. Then use the evidence that the 504s took a shot at us previously to force them to back down, unless they want us to justifiably side with the Dragonflies. Offer use of our hospital facilities to President Stearns as a gesture of goodwill and not so subtle reminder that working with us has substantial rewards.

And damnit, I somehow knew the peace wouldn't last. Donno if I want to support the Dragonflies because of the technicalities of the treaty or attempt to broken a truce. I mean, it *was* an internal dissident faction that loaded it with explosives, even if they were helped by a Dragonflies double-agent. That *might* be enough to stave off war. Worth a shot, at least.

But yet... we've had to spend so much on military ventures, and it'd be convenient if the two factions just stomped on each other for a while.

[X] Subjugate Raiders II - The worst surprises are probably over and it is unlikely anyone will stir up shit while you are away, and your logistics just got a lot easier.

We should probably work further on designs, but we'd need actions to build the things after we complete, and I don't want to lock down two of our military actions until those designs are complete. Boost the militia, as we might be needing them in the near future, and send out some troops to try to pacify the raider area - and perhaps find another settlement to send some people to.

[X] Dig into the 504s - The 504s have secrets, you just need to get at them

I am curious. Who inherits the Administrator position if Dia right now dies?

The girls are too young so if it is Maxwell who will be in charge or gets the possition as Regent I can see him having plans for taking power.

Frankly, I think we just stay out of the war and keep building/researching more military tech/army buildings. Then, when their both battered and bruised, come in and consume what's left.

I got a idea.

If we try to talk with the Dragonflies and 504s on peace and whatnot can we have them and us make a Accord on what Rules of War we should introduce that limit the loss life and resources?

Well then. At this point, both the 504's and the Dragonflies have attempted to involve us in leader-assassinations, while getting someone else pinned for the blame.

I think this is more than just grounds for us taking neither side in the conflict, and instead fulfilling one very important role:

Referee.

In essence, rather than taking a side, we propose to both that we will send observers to make sure that both sides don't do disgusting, inhumane things to each other's populace or captured soldiers when they've won an engagement.

If they protest, we can rather pointedly make note of both the past assassination attempt on Dia herself, and the attempt on the President more recently. Both factions claim to be above barbarism, but there's reasonable evidence that neither are fully trustworthy, and do they really want us to start treating them with the same regard that we have inhuman barbarians in the past?

Every faction will at least try to gain information sources in their rivals, that's politics, but right now we are the only faction that hasn't been cast under reasonable suspicion of stopping to assassination and framing someone else as the culprits to try and force us into a war with their enemies.

Yeah, I'm fine with sitting this one out.

I am curious. Who inherits the Administrator position if Dia right now dies?

The girls are too young so if it is Maxwell who will be in charge or gets the possition as Regent I can see him having plans for taking power.

It would devolve to a Regency until the girls are old enough to be considered adults, at which point there would be an election between the two of them. Expect things to go weird if that happens.

[X] Train Soldiers - Selecting the better candidates from the militia, train them up to your standards, creating a squad (10) of Soldiers (Light Jaegers). REPEATABLE (Repeats are individual votes, label as x2 or x3) Cost: 250C per action (need to buy guns now)

@Academia Nut: What happened to civilian construction, I thought that they were making a chemical refinery?

I personally want to use the fact that we're the daughter in law of the duke and the 504 past behavior towards us to get them to the table. Than once their there, we can use the fact that we have them both over a barrel to create some kind of unified government with us in overall command.

Why do I get the feeling that the Recyclers are somehow involved in this somehow?

Also will the Proving Grounds allow us to research certain techs as a martial action?

A war of annihilation is hours away. One of our security actions needs to be infiltrating the 504 so we can effectively and clandestinely destabilize either or both factions if we need to as this war progresses. Infiltrating the Dragonfly secret police is similarly important, and our dear husband can apparently help with that. Counter-intelligence is probably not of great importance with the two other factions focused on each other.

A war of annihilation is hours away. While proving grounds and military academies are good long-term projects, we are in real danger of desperately needing combat effectiveness right away.

A war of annihilation is hours away. This is probably not the best time to get knocked up. We may need to get personally involved to hold the line.

A war of annihilation is hours away. We are probably going to lose access to our Shattersaw salvage.

And yes, you can get a piece of free intel. Which faction do you want it on?

Discussion? I'm leaning towards the 504, though there are merits to just saying "Maxwell".

The Recyclers who have better tech in the biology of the Death World, something that needs to be fixed, and have disappered to emperor knows where with probarly Death World creatures at their command.

I mean they bloodly disappeared and we know that a similar research facility like ours was near their location and they focused on biology, so its not exactly to far-fetched to assume they have some stuff we don't have, like taming the wild life and living without a settlement, since we couldn't go down that route as easily as them.
