[] Just improve its sensors and move along. You'd rather not have to worry about taking care of yet another intelligent being, especially since it might just up and leave you. That would be rather inconvenient.

I want a puppy for our girl

I'm up for a pet. With an audience-powered aetheric flamethrower for a nose I doubt it'll ever be truly "outdated", and even if it does get old, upgrades should always be possible.

[] Give Gift a true mind of its own. It's not anywhere near as messy as a biological pet would be. (True Artificial Intelligence)

I am going with this

Wait, hold on, I read the options backward. It already has a pretty good AI. We have a bit of Surge left. Option 1 is to leave the AI as it is (pet) and give it better sensors. Option 2 is to boost it up to being a person.

I blame Inspiration.

Inspiration-chan! *fangirling* Or do you prefer Light-chan now? I love you so much! Thank you for the Gift, Inspiration-chan!

It was great hearing Light-chan vent through us! That was excellent fun, especially when it gave us Renewed Access and a new Inspired trait!

I love you Light-chan. So very, very much. Once again, thanks for the Gift!

Does that mean this is the pet option? The update itself seemed to imply that the sensor improvement would lead to the pet option, and this was actual sapience.

No, I'll read over the update and see where it went wrong. The sensor upgrade is instead of upgrading it to true sentience and intelligence. You don't really think it'd need a better way to identify parts of its surroundings if there's a mind interpreting incoming information.

You believe it'd be about as intelligent as a particularly clever dog and wouldn't get much smarter.

Hold on, instead of improving it's mind OR it's sensors, what about one or more of the following?
- Make it have a functionality like a lesser Lightweight, decreasing the effective mass of the thing it's attached to and powering.
- Add a platform on top and make the legs stronger and faster, letting it transport heavy loads, as well as acting as letting us stand on it so we don't have to pay attention to locomotion when surging
- Add a slot for attaching Skybreaker, rapidly charging it and maybe also letting it open larger rifts or otherwise have improved function. If we do this, we should build in the defense module we have already as a part of it.
- Add an expandable/collapsible workbench, and a multitude of advanced corded power tools, especially equipment for working with aether without an audience.

better sensors for specialized situations can always be created and utilized later on, but something as integral as more intelligence is better done at inception. And since it won't be a human level intelligence, I won't feel bad about binding it to us like we did (the security information added.)

Most urgent question. If we upgrade to full sapience, can Light-chan speak through its Gift??!!

1: No. 2: Minus the platform, that's already done. 3: You'd need to adjust Skybreaker for that, which is not within the boundaries of this Surge. 3: You could add a workbench and tools for gathering, detecting, and working with aether, but not the rest crammed into that idea.

You doubt it.

How much material can it currently transport, and how much could it transport if we added a platform and better load-carrying legs? In either case, with and without keeping up with neighilist.

How well does the current design work for recharging skybreaker batteries?

1: You're pretty sure the ground collapsing under it is more of a concern than its weight limitations.

2: Not at all. Adjusting Skybreaker is not within the confines of this this project.

I'm regretting giving a write-in option for this one now. >_<

Ah wait, I guess I misread. AI in this case means "smart as a dog" not "smart as a person". So our choice is either robot with better sensors, or pet that can distinguish between friend and foe because it has a brain. I don't think I'm in favour of using Gift as a transport or pack mule though. We made it to be a battery with some mobility and self-defence capability so no one would steal it. I'm not in favour of diluting its purpose. (I also think Inspiration-chan might not approve)

When we can choose between something as impressive as Artificial Intelligence, and any other option, I think I'm going to have to choose AI. Especially since it's not going to be human-level smart. I'm willing to entrust Lorelei with the care of a pet, but not necessarily a newborn person.

@Alivaril: If we do give it an AI, will it come out as a reasonably well-educated normal person, or at least a Spark with half a grasp of self-control and long-term planning? Or will we be having to teach it that the squishies aren't toys?

If the ground collapsing is the issue, shouldn't we be giving it wider feet?

If it's that strong, maybe we should build a tiny house on top of it?

If we do go with AI, we should make sure to give it lots and lots of "module slots" that we can put lesser projects into to let the AI control them, starting with our defense thing, and to have a SLOT for skybreakes to once we DO modify it, we at least won't have to modify THIS one AS WELL.

Clever-dog-level intelligence. You think it'll know that people are fragile, but it might not respect personal space until trained. EDIT: Changed default options and the last few paragraphs to try to clear things up.

I'm pretty sure Alivaril was saying that it's so strong that the ground will collapse under it before it collapses under any weight we can put on it.

According to the update, it's about the size of a large dog. I don't think we can balance a tiny house on it, unless the 'house' is more the size of a tall, narrow outhouse. And even then, I'd worry about it tipping over. Again, I'm not in favour of making our battery a pack mule. Our battery is made to be installed into things. Building a thing for it to be installed in should be a separate project.

I'm sure we can modify Skybreaker to help get charged off this, but your demand for SLOTS seems kinda rude. Really, Inspiration-chan renewed our failing Surge so we'd have a spider-shooter thing that can even hijack enemy creations instead of just a glowing crystal battery lump, and when it offers AI or better sensors, what do you demand instead? Slots. Like, really?

"But the Light likes me more than you,
My gender barely matters.
I'm among its chosen few,
Until its attention scatters."
I'd be more concerned about that if we weren't SV. I suspect we can keep cranking out crazy and intriguing ideas as long as needed.

I'd be up for giving the Gift pet-level AI. Really, if we're giving it a body, we might as well. It'll make life easier for us if it knows not to wander away from us, and if it comes when we call it. The fact that it kinda reminds me of my pet Psicrystal from my 3.5 Psion is just a bonus.
