A Villain In A World Of Heroes

Well, leather armor is usually hardened, IIRC.

I do like the idea of a cloak, tho. More useful overall (lets remember to put lots of pockets). We are mages, sneak long range attacks are our schtick. We should probably line it with some silk, makes it more breathable while being warmer, provides extra piercing protection and is confy as fuck. We are moderately rich, after all.

My point, however, is do we need it right now? I do think getting more spells, books on linguistics, math, geograph and maybe history (specially for modern history, don't want to get used as pawn because we don't know certain families have a blood feud), summoning our little imp comes first.

That would get us a much needed assistant that we could not explain.

Who needs to know about it? Can we explain the regeneration? Our 20 odd gold coins?
We already have a secret hideout. And who knows, maybe it doesn't even need to stay materialized all the time, maybe others can't see it, maybe it can become invisible, maybe it can provide valuable advice and tutoring. We need to test it to know!

Mainly because fluffy cloak

You're spelling it wrong. There's no "A"'s in my username...

*Implying that Floofy magical Wolf fur isn't already warm and fluffy enough to sleep in like a blanket no matter where we lay down*
Oh, and the point of silk protecting against arrows was that the strands caught on the weapon and made it easier to pull out or through. If we get hit with a weapon that needs pulling out, then it doesn't matter if it gets torn out or pulled out gently, because the time-frame for it healing completely will be similar. It also implies that we'd, you know, be expecting to be stabbed, instead of spending the money on more armor that we can wear under our concealing cloak of fluffiness.

The Problem with the summoning is that we don't know about Imps either way. In the same way that it could be easy to hide, it could also be permanent, or it could make itself very obvious when we are trying to be sneaky, or it could go and wreak havoc on the town while we are sleeping/unconscious/distracted. Summoning demons in town is asking for trouble. (to be clear, I am only against summoning it while we are in town. If we went out to the forest or the river and did it I would have no qualms)

Does summoning it in the forest mean it will just magically not head into town?

Lets summon it in the forest then! I just want to get done with it.

For those worried about the smudging of the symbol, we could always carve it on leather or wood.

I'm also curious about the spellbook in a few ways:

1. Upon first reading the spellbook, its words appeared as a flurry of runes and symbols, and "settled" on a form we could read. I wonder is this a property of the book, the concept of "ownership" , or our mind. It's always nice to have security features on tomes of eldritch lore.

2. This may or may not be a one-time thing, but the book allowed us to turn back to the page with the imp summoning spell. This would suggest that we can access spells we know at will, or at least spells that the book has taught us.

3. On a related note we may be able to add spells we learned elsewhere through either inscription or telepathy and then "bookmark" them for later use. If so, might it modify the spells we put in or reveal new aspects of them like it did for the imp spell?

Completely unrelated, but how does the "cursed/blessed by fate" thing work? Are villains destined to lose at the hands of heroes, or just anyone?

And how would it be implemented mechanically? In a hero/villain fight would one side receive a malus and the other a bonus?

A Hero is blessed by fate, meaning that they will always win, unless they are fighting another Hero. A Villain is anyone who opposes a Hero, and are therefore cursed by fate and will always lose to a Hero.

Not always, a villain sometimes wins and heroes do get killed by villains sometimes.
That facts indicates that a hero has an unfair advantage, but no an impossible to defeat one

Well, we have votes for the plan, but only four for what to tell the innkeeper, so I am going to leave it open for a while.

For reference, these are the current ideas for what to tell the innkeeper.

1. I went to the forest again. It's nice there. I forgot to check the time, so I slept on a tree instead.

2. Went out of town to get some animal pelts/skins so we can try to earn some money. Got lost, and only got one pelt.

3. Exploring around town. (we are just covered in dirt, right?)

4. Got hit by a herd of migrating wildebeests.
