A Villain In A World Of Heroes

Depends really.

It should be somewhat common for most people to pray to their patron deity or the patron deity of whatever they're doing for their blessing in said action to give them good results or, at the very least, not fuck up.

Of course offering a sacrifice might be another thing and he might see Cedra getting 'divine assistance' as either 'you rely too much on a crutch instead of training' or 'oh, a potential Hero.'

Unfortunately, someone called off work and I have to come in. And, I may not have Internet this weekend, so an update likely won't come until Monday. Sorry

Well, there was only one roll for this update.
Divine Favor: 6

Anyways, while I do have a reason for not posting Monday (I thought I didn't have work, but then my schedule got changed), I think it is obvious by now that I can't stick to a schedule. So, from now on (not that this is very different from before, it is just official now) updates will come when they come.

... What's that out of?

F-ing tests
A prayer, you should definitely start with that. Ignoring a god that just helped you does not sound like a good idea. You get on your knees and muble "O great and mighty Garm, thank you for granting me this wonderful boon." Then, you engrave a symbol into the chair, your hands guided by an unseen forces, creating something you have never seen before.

And with that, the chair feels complete. The runes on it glow, and the chair becomes better. The general shape or size doesn't change, but it becomes grander, more like a real chair. It doesn't look like some stone slabs stuck together and engraved anymore. And you get this feeling that making things will be easier for you in the future.

Just to check, you sit in the chair. It feels strangely comfortable, unlike the stone it was made from. Definitely time to call for Mannkev. You head to the door and timidly call out "Hello? I have finished." You don't get any response, and soon turn away, but about a minute later he enters. Mannkev looks at you, and then the chair, even sitting it, before he says anything.

"Hmmm. I will not tell you that you can not worship, I have no quarrel with the gods. This is a very fine stone chair, and you obviously have at least some arcane knowledge. However, I am a mage, not a priest, so you will learn to be a mage. You will work hard if you become my apprentice, girl. Do not think that you can just rely upon the gods to get out of work." A rumble of disapproval at very thought puts that to rest.

"Follow me, girl." He leads you through the confusing mess of passages once more, to another room, although this one has a bronze door, covered in runes. Before you enter he orders you to "Do not leave until I tell you to." The room is retangular, and massive, more like a hall then a room. Strangely, it seems to be completely empty, and you head towards the center of the room to see if you missed something. And then it happens.
Panic Roll: 5
Fire, fire everywhere. Except where you are standing, and a small path towards the exit, the entire room is filled with fire. And the flames are getting higher and closer, you can feel the heat licking your skin, the flames advancing in front of your eyes, and the pain, the pain of the burns. You are going to die, burned alive in this damned place! You have to do something, anything, NOW!

[X] Run for the entrance! This stupid test isn't worth it!
[X] Dirt is supposed to put out fires, right? Move the earth, block the flames!
[X] Ice Bolts, Ice Bolts everywhere!
[X] Use the Wind, blow the flames back!
[X] Call down a Blizzard inside the room! You haven't cast it before, but there is no way it can't put the flames out!

OOC: Feel free to write in here, there are several options I didn't make default. Also, barring any player/dice weirdness, I don't see this arc lasting more then 5 more updates or so, don't worry, we are in the home stretch!

Because f*ck Fire

[X] Ice Bolts, Ice Bolts everywhere!

Blizzard also has WIND, which would make the fire worse if the snow doesn't douse it fast enough.

It's likely magical fire so might not be smothered.
(Or maybe ice won't do so well)
Why don't we combine the two?

Wind: No. Fanning the flames is a bad thing.

This is a massive room, presumably of stone if it's described as a "hall" (and behind a metal door). Using earth doesn't sound like a useful mechanism for putting out a fire that may be springing up from the stone itself.

Ice bolts are rather random. They're small and single-target sized, so don't seem like they'd work for putting out a massive fire. We'd have to saturate the hall with them before it would even start to be feasible.

But speaking of saturation... blizzard. That could definitely work, but it's a higher-end spell. We could get bonus points for what we achieved, but might get docked for reaching beyond the minimum necessary (based on Mannkev's training methodology). Swatting flies with a sledgehammer, as it were.

My first inclination before I read the options was a wall of ice, or something like an igloo. I'm not sure we have the right magic skills for that, though, given the limited nature of spells here.

And then we have other options.

Trait: Ignoring Pain
Trait: The Lord's Healing
Between those two, we could theoretically just tough this out.

Trait: Flame Something: You ate some flaming raccoons and got something from them. What this is, remains to be seen.
Possible trait manifestation.

Trait: Of the River: After eating the hearts of three fish from a poisonous river, you gain the ability to form and shoot high powered balls of water without a spell and gained greater control over water. Whether there are other effects remains to be seen.
Water would likely be a better douser than ice. Or maybe used in conjunction.

Trait: Willful Mind: You have experienced and recognized mind control, and then broke its hold through anger and willpower. This gives you an advantage to doing the same in future, and makes it easier for you to detect external influence on your mind.
If this is just an illusion, rather than real fire, this might give us a chance to resist. Even if the fire isn't an illusion, the panic is likely a mental influence.

The Ice Touch spell might work well in conjunction with the water balls we can summon. The water balls are likely to have more volume than ice, so we could fire a water ball at the floor near us, and then immediately freeze it to seal that off to more fire.

Anyone else come up with any ideas?

It could just be an illusion. Blizzard is way overreacting, and we aren't immune to that spells effects.* Also, do note the suspiciously specific coloured words in the update. I highly doubt he would put us in a position where we would die with as one the entrance tests.

This is still a Test, no matter how bad it looks. Identifying when you are being effected by magic is a big part of practicing it.

[X] Break the Illusion

*Also, pretty sure that we can't cast it into just a room, and that it effects a massive area.

We can't actually summon the water from nothing, we need to have water available to use our Hydrokinesis.

The ignoring Pain trait is something I actually forgot we had. We barely flinched when a Wolf bit off our arm in the forest. The pain we are experiencing now shouldn't really be nearly as bad as the text implies, when we've only just started feeling it.

[] Willful Mind - Resist the panic. Possibly the fire, too, if it's an illusion. You know you're able to ignore pain more easily than this.
[] The flaming raccoons gave you something. Does your body react to the fire in any way?
[] Barring that, summon water balls to douse the flames nearest you. Freeze the water as well (Ice Touch) to make it more difficult for the fire to evaporate the water.

Hmm. Bah. The writeup doesn't look like it has that limit, but I think I vaguely remember that from when it happened.

The above pseudo-vote is what I'd like to do, but if the water balls are nixed, will need something else for the third slot.
