A Villain In A World Of Heroes

There was no "advertising." That is just what the last one paid, as far as the innkeeper knows. (Not counting any "bonuses")

I'd just like to note that saying we want power for Revenge, has a chance to out us as a Villain, or otherwise sour his impression of us.

Both good points. Edited vote.

Still has 'revenge' in it, pretty clear that 'power for revenge' is still clearly (unspoken)there.
He could just refuse us because that's the wrong state of mind to learn or something.

We should have something about 'moving forward, striving to the best of our natural talents/abilities.'

How so? Be more specific.

It's a good idea, but depending on how you answer the above question, I still like my own blurb better.

'Why do you want to learn magical power from me?'
"Revenge."

Reason for learning=Revenge=Using new power for such.
Simple Logic.
Simply not saying one of the words of a phrase doesn't mean it isn't obvious what you are actually saying.
Only someone unbelievably uncoordinated at conversations wouldn't notice the connection.
Doubly so for a wizard who has had to 'deal' with evil apprentices before.

Also, hate consumes you, evil possesses you because of such, demons devour us, etc.
(not)Actual details to be considered further.

Also, why do you like "I'm doing it to hurt someone" as our first impression on him?
It doesn't make us look like a badass, more someone to dissuade/ report to a hero to be killed as a danger to society at worst.

I said I edited my vote. Did you actually check the new one? Because it doesn't sound like you did.

... Huh, I checked it after you said that, but it was still:
[] "Because I can pay the advertised price. And because I doubt you have an apprentice already, so you can afford to train me."
-[] If he asks why we want an apprenticeship: "Revenge."
So I assumed you edited out something else.(specific mention of power/etc.)

Fair enough.

I would still like some constructive feedback on my actual V2 vote, if you can think of any.

Actually..,

[X] "Because I can pay what you charged the last hopeful. And because I doubt you have an apprentice already, so you can afford to train me."
-[X] If he asks why we want an apprenticeship: "There's a person I have to find, one of Fortune's Favored. I need to be as strong as I can be, and that has to be at least strong enough to stand beside him." Try to come off as having hero worship.

I'll open the board to anyone to give me said feedback. Come on, don't pull your punches.

... I'm leery about mentioning heroes at all, but that's likely just paranoia.

How likely is it that he will betray us?/etc.
We need to get to know him better.

I agree, it does sound paranoid. Not impossible, but paranoid.

How likely is it that he will betray us?/etc.
We need to get to know him better.

That doesn't seem like the kind of question we can ask casually at this juncture without tipping our hand, although if you can come up with a way that'd be great.

In my opinion, I don't mind overmuch about bringing up Heroes as motivation for wanting to learn magic and become stronger. As long we don't mention wanting revenge, or attempting to subtly imply it/make a suspiciously specific denial, I'm fine with it.

Mentioning our Pops' death I'm iffy on, but I'd not get too upset if that came up. Much more content with this if we mention/imply we are trying to move past the pain and become stronger through magic.

[X] Because I can finish your trial. I don't want praise or fame, I want to become a good mage.

Straight and to the point.

Would there be any difference between using 'I can' and 'I will' for the statement?

I don't know if GM would care about that difference, but:

I can: I am capable of finishing your test.
I will: I will not stop until that test is finished.

Or at least this is what I think. I'm not the best in the subject in my on language, and I never had to learn about it in English.

I can see problem with either leading to him thinking that Cedra's underestimating him and he'll be grumpy anyway.

Can I have a vote tally?
Of course you can.

[1] I am daughter to a murdered father, who was killed for selling someone something that didn't protect them as well as the person required but the person who bought the item didn't say what he intended to use the item for apart from the obvious, I have heard tales of you being one of the greatest mages in these lands and I desire to gain power under your tutelage so that I may take revenge on the person who killed my father and stop him from repeating such actions in the future, I am skilled in magic and wish to increase my knowledge and skill.

Test 1
"Because I don't want fame or false praise. Because I am here to become a better mage. Because I can pass your trial." You say with confidence you aren't sure you feel.

He snorts and tells you "We will see." Then, he opens the iron gate, the wards briefly turning off as you walk through, before blazing full force again. The house, no, it isn't really a house, the building is made of lightly colored wooden panels, with a triangular roof that peeks in the center of the building. It looks like it is only a single floor high on the outside, but it is very, very wide. You think it may even be as wide as the ruler's palace from home, although you have never seen it up close.

He lets you inside the house through a strange door that slides out of the way instead of opening or closing, and leads you through a maze of hallways until you reach a set of stairs leading down into a section of the building made stone. He then takes to a room with an oaken door, which is almost completely empty.

The ceiling, the floor, the walls, they are all made of stone, and the only light is a lamp hanging from the ceiling. There is no furnishings or anything, there is only a few items on the floor. Two straight retangular pieces of wood, one nail, and what looks like half of a square wood piece with a rough and jagged edge. Mannkev tells you to "Make a chair to start with, girl" then closes the door and leaves.

OOC: The more detail, the better (unless you are wrong, of course).

Is he in the room with us or not? Just out of couriosity.

So, that looks like half a chair there (and only one nail...). How can we make a chair there?

Let's see.... unless there are other parts in the room, we won't be using the chair parts. Can we use Nova Glaciem or Ice Touch (When did we get that? And is it just a "freeze what you are holding spell? I don't remember.)to make an ice chair? Or maybe the Earth elemental/earth moving spell would help.

Any ideas?
