I just rewatched the Epilogue with 3rd personality Shiki, because this discussion has gone back and forth a few times on the whole killing an absence bit, and I didn't see anything really definitive. She does offer to heal Mikiya's eye. She does point out she can arbitrarily affect physical law or replace the world at will, but doesn't because - really what's the point.

Actually, it was kind of disturbing in that talking to Azathoth sort of way... but, yeah, not really possible for a human mind.
Well, there's also the point that Void Shiki isn't really a human soul, amusingly. She's "the soul of flesh and blood," her Origin and soul is more appropriate to a zombie than anything else as I interpret it.

(I don't think we disagree, to be clear - just quoting you to specify a recipient :p)

On a side note, it's been noted that you can't really kill absences, though I don't have a source atm. Part of it is probably the lack of something to see lines on. I won't say it's impossible, but it's probably beyond a human mind, barring a secondary power (like, I dunno, Pure Eyes of Potential Viewing, which is something I just made up on the spot.)
It's a logical conclusion that you can't do so—which is the trap a human would fall for. "How can I kill an absence? … Guess I can't."
Chapter 6 Q&A said:
Q: Seeing as how Shiki wasn't able to kill words, I'd like to know, how far does her capability to understand death actually extend? <The Red Loser Isn't a Loser!>

Nasu: Well, it's just a rule of thumb, but if it's the normal Shiki then she can kill everything that physically decays. The thing with words is that she doesn't regard their death as "decay" but rather "fading into oblivion."

Takeuchi: Ah, so it's a problem of recognition, then.

Nasu: Of course, that realm of recognition is already no problem at all for the inhuman Miss
❝ ❞.
Used fancy quotation marks to emphasize the difference, but these are rarely used (read almost never).

Yep.

I think it could be argued that way and be inline with how MEoDP work in Nasu.

MEoDP is a very broken power.

The connection to the Root, aka Shiki's 3rd personality, is very broKen. Basically, "I can kill anything and everything in the 13 dimensions of this universe as long as I can comprehend it." History? Scion never appear in Earth beta since Taylor killed the very concept of Scion.

I hope this story doesn't go too dark, with something like the twins being raped or something, because i keep thinking something like it has happened to the twins.

To be fair, being kidnapped from your home and having a bomb implanted you is still pretty dark. I mean that'd be prime trigger material for anyone. I feel bad Taylor's problems are only just starting considering she's essentially all alone in sorting this mess out, as well as the trauma the twins are likely going to have.

Huh.

Doing some research, and the Eyes of Death Perception we are familiar with the Shiki's possessing are actually not a singular Mystic Eye, but a Compound Mystic Eye. They technically possess two Mystic Eyes merged into one in functionality. They have Eyes of Purity, which is a kind of Mystic Eye subtype that allows the user to perceive something that could otherwise not be perceived by normal people in varying flavors.

Then they have the Mystic Eye of Death Perception.

For both Shiki's, their kind of Eye of Purity is described as "Seeing that which is Forbidden" which in tandom with their MEoDP allows them to see past death into the existence of someone or something, allowing them to cut the lines and stab the dots.

Learn something new everyday.

I believe Pure Eyes are a general category, actually. Pure Eyes expand one's perception without allowing you to affect the world; Mystic Eyes allow you to interact with what you perceive.

Taylor vs. Leviathan by JefferyG
This is just an idea I had for a short snippet, I'm not sure you could call it an Omake but whatever.

Taylor stood at the back of the room, trying to control her panic. She took deep breaths, and held her knife in a death grip. Her mind was a whirlwind except for one single thought.

Leviathan is not going to destroy this city.

She wasn't sure what she could do to stop it, but she wasn't going to sit back and let it happen.

Taylor was snapped out of her musing when someone stepped up to her. She didn't recognize her, must have been one of the out of town heroes by the look of the costume. Maybe a Ward?

The girl held out a wristband. Taylor took it but didn't look away from her. Something in the back of her mind was bugging her.

Before she could stop herself she spoke up. "What's your power?"

She looked at Taylor for a few seconds before responding, "Uh, I can make whatever I touch cut anything else." She paused for a second, "Why?"

Taylor didn't respond. She was looking across the room, at another cape. His massive sword held over his shoulder like it weighed no more than a baseball bat. Chevalier.

And in the back of Taylor's mind, a plan was taking shape.

Chevalier stared through the deluge at the frothing water. He was unsure of this plan, but if it failed nothing would really be any different than if they had done nothing.

But if it did work...

He didn't even want to think about it, he dared not hope for something like that.

The first wave rose, surging forward.

Suddenly the girl to his left tensed. A second later a shape burst from the wave right before it crashed into the bay, flattening the Boardwalk and several buildings.

The instant Leviathan landed he was struck by several dozen Blasters and Tinker weaponry.

Under the wave of fire several shapes darted toward leviathan, one suddenly blasting upwards and striking him in the chin, knocking the Endbrigers head back.

The other two shapes continued towards him, flying low. As soon as the got with reach of the beast he froze, unnaturally still in the rain.

Glory Girl and Aegis darted away, Clockblocker supported in Glory Girls arms.

Alexandria backed away as well.

Chevalier took a deep breath. It was time.

He raised him sword, growing it as he did so it was several meters long, long enough to reach Leviathan from where he stood on a nearby roof.

The two girls on either side of him gripped the hilt below his hand. He felt on of them guide his hand and followed where she led.

The blade came down on Leviathans left shoulder, right where his arm connected, and cut all the way down until it sliced through his waist.

Suddenly the Endbringer unfroze, only to fall backwards with a mighty crash in the street.

He did not move again.

Around him, cheers rose and did not seem to stop until well into the night.
----------------------

Like I said, just a little thing that is not thought out much at all. I'm sure non of this would work. and there is NO WAY Leviathan would be that easy to get Clockblocker in range of, but I just wanted to get this out of my head.

There's a new segment over on FFN, it's very not kid-friendly and no not in the fun way. Presumably Ensou-san is running it past the mods before posting it here, so I will not be linking anyone to it. Merely a notice of existence.

Rape. Imprisonment.

It exists and, uh, yeah.

It does what it does well. Whether you're okay with that kind of feeling is a different question altogether. It works, but should it exist in that form to begin with? Because I need to take deep, slow breaths after that kind of horror.

Wow, yeah, I've read the latest interlude.

It's pretty descriptive, alright. And the twins is in highschool, so they are considered underage as well(barely).

Personally speaking, I don't see why the chapter cannot be posted here, but I can understand why that couldn't be posted.

But I also think the flow of the story wouldn't matter too much if it wasn't posted here and we went straight to the aftermath.

The interlude helped in getting that Kara no Kyouka sides, of course.

The obvious resolution is the same as normal: send chapter to mods, if they approve post it with TW, if they disapprove they'll explain why and Ensou can make site-specific cuts as necessary, which shouldn't be particularly hard.

If necessary, just remove everything that is marked not-okay before the trigger and between trigger and charred meat and it won't even hurt chapter flow, just reader impact, while the results will be site-approved.

Read the interlude as well and, well written or not I'm pissed as all hell that said event happened and shall now go get some comfort food because that left me feeling really bad right now.

I submitted a "cleaner" version here. I'll have to make the minor edits I've done to the other versions once it's approved, but I'm hoping that it does go through. I'd be posting with trigger warnings, of course.

I am become Gen Urobuchi, the destroyer of worlds happiness, hopes and dreams.

...well, ensou has already said that it won't get that dark, and considering the board we're on...
...I doubt that it'll go that far.
Awks.

Seriously though, I'm glad it's being received so well. It's very intense, and I was honestly expecting a lot more division over it than it's gotten so far. I've only gotten one "UNNECESSARY CONTRIVED PLOT DEVICE!!!" complaint. So there's that.

The interlude helped in getting that Kara no Kyoukai sides, of course.

Good. I'm glad I'm able to capture that atmosphere. It's a balancing act, for sure.

I... really struggled with whether I should go this route or not (showing vs not showing and just telling). In the end, I'm glad I did, because it's gotten exactly the reactions I hoped for.

If you're not going to post the interlude here, do you think you could post a short spoilered summery for us that for some reason or other don't want to read it on FFN?

That's all fine and dandy but you now own us some fluff after showing us that. We need something to balance all this sadness dammit :(.

There will be. I promise.

Remember?
I'm not going for Warhammer levels of grimdark ("life sucks, the world sucks, and you're never going to be happy before you die horribly at the end of a chainsaw").

I'm going for KnK darkness, which is admittedly pretty dark at points but more supernaturally dark ("omfg he's eating people!"), not characters getting their lives torn apart at every possible moment. I think the worst the Nasuverse ever gets is Matou Sakura and Asagami Fujino. But I value contrast. Contrast is important. Dark content balanced by fluff.

At least there is some good news in that Taylor will be able to assure them Bakuda is dead at her hands, and that she died terrified and pathetic.

I also really hope that because of Tattletale's manipulations Taylor's move to become her pet gang leader didn't lead to her not taking the time to find her friends until after she'd established her position.

.....you know, each time I hear this, I was reminded of a news of some crazy college students protests of being triggered when they are in a lecture of Nazi History.

I forgot where I read this.

Anyways, for people who read/watch Kara no Kyoukai should know how dark it can be, but good for people who only knows Worms.
