Binah's a very interesting character to work with, especially in regards to how she treats X and Angela post-Meltdown. With most people she just enjoys testing and pushing them to see how they react when pressed, but her siding with Angela between LC and LoR is a very interesting decision that I had to interpret.

That is to say that when the Madoka-Binah conversation cometh, it shall not be this brief.

My read of Binah's behaviour is that her greatest interest now lies in watching the paths people walk; the choices they make and whether they overcome hardship or break along the way. Hence why she supports Angela, whose path she sees is not yet over at the end of LC. She works on Roland for similar reasons, out of curiousity for how he will develop.

And in Angela's bad end, when she reaches the end of her path, Binah takes up arms because she does not like the resolution.

In other words, a goddamn contrarian to the end :V

Starting as Garion in LC, she moves from someone solely interested in stamping out potential sprouts and taking glee in crushing them to someone strapped to a chair and forced to watch as a sprout grows in front of her (and probably pierces her head or something). Afterwards, she starts being interested in watching sprouts grow and occasionally steps in to prevent promising ones from being crushed completely.

The thing with Angela's bad end is that Angela killed Ayin's dream and the only thing she got out of it was perpetuating the City's cycle, something Binah had done herself countless times already. Boring.

That is to say that when the Madoka-Binah conversation cometh, it shall not be this brief.

*Conversation ends, Binah is now a firm Madokami convert, goes on to preach to Hokma of all people* :V

And in Angela's bad end, when she reaches the end of her path, Binah takes up arms because she does not like the resolution.

Let's be honest, the only ones that were happy about that end were the Head, the librarians weren't happy, Roland was too dead to be happy, Ayin wasn't happy, hell, Angela herself doesn't seems very happy.

X does not even sees it, but such a thought being one of her abnormality ones is telling on how much her fear are overblown.
I know I use similar shades for all the Light-related emotional resonance, but that's not DotSaM. I think somebody made a reserve of all the different hex codes a while ago, though I'm not sure when it was last updated.

2.3.8 - Closing Time
Chapter 119 - Closing Time

You take a moment to consider Binah's proposal. She's been particularly helpful so far, and you'd rather not discourage that kind of behavior for the future. Besides, you've technically brought the kids into dangerous situations before. Hunting witches, dealing with Abnormalities, going to school… you don't really have the best track record there. Still, as long as you're supervising, everything should go fine.

Not that you won't be ready if it doesn't. One can never grow too complacent with the anticipated course of things. That route leads to easily preventable disasters.

Of course that moves to the question of who to bring. Yuma's not an option, you would prefer to keep her out of this as much as possible. Sayaka's out, she has training to do at the same time and wouldn't get along with Binah regardless. She's too stubborn, and while that's sometimes a good trait it's also one Binah enjoys to see in a person. And not the good "enjoys" either.

You're not so sure about Mami. She's a strong-willed kid, you'll absolutely give her that, but she doesn't really need the kind of challenge Binah presents right now. The main issues Mami will have to face in the future will be learning about where Witches are born from, which will be coming sooner rather than later, and having to say goodbye to you. That one won't be an issue for a few years if you're lucky. Either way, they aren't things Binah can help with. She doesn't exactly do soft deliveries.

Then there's the Distortions to consider. With Kyoko, there's not much to think about. Your whole plan for helping her recover revolves around building up a stable environment for her and preventing it from being disturbed as much as possible. Binah doesn't exactly do unobtrusive. Homura is somewhat the opposite, and a much more tempting option because of it. The key to curing her distortion is in shaking the deep-seated beliefs that have been ingrained into her over the course of hundreds of time loops. It's about breaking down her obsessive fixation on saving Madoka above all else and maybe cultivating something a bit more healthy in its place. Binah could absolutely do that. In one conversation, though? Probably not. Not that this has to be a one-time thing, but all of this is besides the paint. Binah might be able to break people down, but she's not as good at building them back up so much as she is watching them get where they're already going.

Maybe you could help with that, but that would mean you and Homura would have to both be there. Which would mean Madoka would either not be attended by either one of you or would be present at the meeting. Homura wouldn't accept the former, she's kept an eye on Madoka every second since she transformed and while you can probably talk her into letting you take over for a bit you definitely won't be able to convince her to leave Madoka without either of you, and the latter would bring up an entirely separate issue.

Specifically, that Madoka might be a more ideal conversation partner for Binah than any of the other kids. She's still less clear on what she wants to do to help than the others, and for all her obfuscating verbosity if Binah's good at one thing it's bringing clarity. Whether that clarity turns out to be a good thing is a more pertinent issue, but in Madoka's case you don't think the answer could be more harmful than the lack of an answer. Besides, you are planning on a full assault against the Adult Who Tells Lies soon. It would be best that she reaches her conclusion before that point for a number of reasons.

It appears Madoka would be the best choice, then. Homura might benefit from a talk with Hokma in the meantime, which leaves your kids some time to hang out without you hanging over them. Speaking of, it's about time you get home and get back to doing just that.

You make a show of thinking very hard about your decision, then let out a sigh of resignation. "Right, I think I know who to bring. Are you gonna explain how this will help, or…?"

Binah, of course, does not explain and instead takes a sip of her tea. You do the same, downing the rest of your drink in a single motion and mentally smirking at Binah's wince. It's always reassuring to know you can, in fact, get to her. Even if it's just through petty little acts like that.

"Well, I'd best be on my way. Stuff to do and all." you announce, sitting up from your chair. "Before I go, though, I've got two last things to add."

"First," you begin casually, "as a parent, I believe I am obligated to tell you that if you hurt any of my kids in any way, you'll wish Angela had left you in your box for another ten thousand years. We understand each other there?"

And Binah, ever the masochistic creep, grins in a way only she can. It's a smile of absolute anticipation, of imagining the greatest satisfaction imaginable.

"And second," you continue, your voice as hardened and worn as it was during those long years, when the days blurred together and lives ended and began as swift and unnoticed as sparks in a forest fire, "Thank you for standing by Angela. I don't think you intended for all this to happen, but… it wouldn't have ended this way if you hadn't stepped in. It puts me at ease to know all of my old friends are alright. I owe you for that."

Binah's expression softens once again and she calmly drains the last of her tea. "May you find your path to be illuminated, then. It will not be in pursuance that the true destination shall be reached, but only in the course of the journey will the steps to the conclusion be gathered."

You repress a laugh as you walk away. That one's hardly up to her usual fare. The meaning is far too obvious.

—————————

You take a small detour to drop Sayaka off at Hitomi's when leaving. Apparently the two of them are attending some sort of music performance together later tonight. One of the performers is the boy Sayaka used her wish to heal. You bid them a good time and leave them to it. You don't want all your… issues that you've brought over contaminating any more of their leisure time than is necessary. After that, you make a quick stop at the Kaname residence to find Homura sitting in a tree outside and make sure her key is wound. Not much is said, just a simple check-in on what's been happening for each of you. You decide to use her as a messenger to inform Madoka that you're inviting them over to the Library tomorrow, since the two of them need more excuses to talk. Homura can't live the rest of her life sitting in trees, though you don't think she'd listen if you just told her that.

Finally, you arrive home. The kids are all disentangling themselves from various uncomfortable-looking positions across the living room, homework forgotten as they leap up at the sound of the door opening. You barely have time to close it behind you before you are assaulted by a pair of hugs that you're fairly certain would have permanently paralyzed a regular person.

"Hey! I haven't been gone that long, have I?" you greet cheerfully, ruffling your kids' hair as they slowly pull away. Yuma and Mami remove themselves from you and move to take position next to Kyoko, who stands awkwardly with downcast eyes behind her sisters. You resist the urge to frown. Some people just aren't as touchy, and you've known Kyoko for much less time and Mami and Yuma. There's nothing for her to be ashamed about.

"You weren't," Mami confirms as you dismiss that line of thought, "but we still missed you. We were just finishing our homework and Kyoko was working on the packets you gave her."

"Good, good. I don't want either of you falling behind on your schoolwork, okay?" you say. Mami and Yuma nod, while Kyoko just stands awkwardly to the side again. "You might want to pay attention to their work too, Kyoko." you point out, rousing the red-haired girl from her gloom. "I can work on getting you into the school system, but there'll definitely be an adjustment period. Just ask Mami if you need any help."

The conversation goes on easier from there with Kyoko brought into it. You and the kids chat for a bit about school, about their friends, and about plans for the future. Mami wanted to be an idol singer, but being a Magical Girl came to take up so much time that she had to give it up. You think she could have gone far with it, too. She's certainly got the charisma and self-confidence a figure like that needs, and her sheer poise and composure would certainly make her a memorable character.

Hopefully she'll be able to pick that dream back up before you have to go. It's be nice to know you gave her that much.

Eventually things wind down and the children return to their homework while you go and arrange the circumstances for Kyoko's transfer into the education system. Or, more accurately, you bully Kyubey into doing it while watching over the little gremlin's shoulder to end sure they aren't messing with anything. By the time you're done, it's late enough in the afternoon that it's gotten dark.

It's time for patrols. Witches don't rest, so neither can you.

—————————

Basic patrolling is easy as usual. Witches have long since ceased to be a threat, and the search is made much easier by the fact that the little bits of Light you scatter all around you serve as emotion-fueled bait and draw Witches in in droves. Of course, that's no excuse to slack off or take things casually. Some Witches have weird powers or abilities, and it's not improbable that at least one of them would be able to harm you do you let your guard down.

Not this one, though. Izabel's plush-like body is already disintegrating from the countless perforations put through it. The familiars are already taken care of, leaving no loose ends as the barrier fades away into nothingness and a lone Grief Seed falls to the ground.

It does remind you, though. The window of time to tell Mami where Witches come from is closing more quickly than you would like. She's already had one major shock today, though. You could tell her tonight, or you could wait until later.

You'll…

[] Wait
[] Write-in

Truly the most dangerous of situations.

to tell Mami where Witches come from
Maybe wait until tomorrow.

Or at least at a better point in time? X does raise a good point that Mami already got the "I'm Dying" bomb dropped on her today.

She's still stewing with the fact that her newfound mum is gonna explode in a few years.

So dropping the extra witch bomb on her might break the camel's back.

Plus, I would rather we wait until we get confirmation that Ayin is talking to her and then drop the Witch bomb. So that he can help deal with any of Carmen's interference.

Mami Tomoe: Exposure VII -> Exposure VIII
Sayaka Miki: Exposure VI -> Exposure VII
Edit: Sayaka went to the Library...So Mami's...did Ayin meet her already I wonder?

Maybe we should ask her whether or not she heard any voices recently.

Will we honestly get a better chance?

Like, How many days at most do we expect to have the opportunity? How long before the Adult breaks it out herself? What does a day matter in the emotional context? "Oh, we can't tell them the day of this other bad news, we can't the literal day after" I don't believe we have a week. I believe X will have to confront the Adult within the next week and we have to tell Mami before then.

So, regardless of whether we choose to wait or not, I want a concrete plan to tell her. A resolution to do so, today or tomorrow.

There is never going to be a good time. We at least have something of a "cure" that doesn't involve murder. As, a Magical girl whom distorts cannot 'Witch-out', though, That'll probably make Mami a bit of a 'Carmen' worshipper (and we already have Argalia). But that's still better than going on a Murder spree, just need to see if we can speedrun undistorting Kyoko and/or Homura.

We don't need to rush things this much.

Already tomorrow we are going to have to talk to Madoka, and Sayaka's parents again due to the delay of today. As for concrete plans, it's up in the air. But I'm thinking of either tomorrow if possible, or the day after.

And then there's the talk with Homura and Madoka regarding the visit to Binah.

We still haven't even gotten Argalia the house we promised him nearby.

Sure, we could drop it immediately on Mami today and either have her distort on the spot or witch out or let her sleep with both of them on her mind.

Her witching out is bad.

Her distorting has the potential to be horrible for us.

I don't see her not being horribly shaken as a possibility, especially when we just complained about Binah not knowing how to do it softly.

She currently has the idea that X is going to die fresh in her mind right now, so her distortion could be on the less reasonable side when it comes to X.

I'm saying we are delaying it. This isn't a decision so easily said.

Another thing, we should consult Homura before we talk about it to Mami. I suggest doing this once we talk with her about having Madoka meet Binah.

Having the resident sentient TT2 protocol in on the plan will help lessen the dangers much more.

Like seriously. Talk with everyone present.

I would even suggest going inside the Library for extra protection if not for that recent sidestory.

Hey, you know what...There is however so many Magical Girls in the library, We can just Practice dropping the Witchbomb on them! :V

having to say goodbye to you. That one won't be an issue for a few years if you're lucky.

Or ever if we actually work on it.

Homura wouldn't accept the former, she's kept an eye on Madoka every second since she transformed

Homura: I am not addicted! I can quit whenever I want! ...After a little more time with Madoka.

Homura light benefit from a talk with Hokma in the meantime

Now, I know X is obsessed with light, but I think you meant *might* here.

It's always reassuring to know you can, in fact, get to her. Even if it's just through petty little acts like that.

Next time, go and microwave it, just, prepare to be strangled.

Homura can't live the rest of her life sitting in trees, though you don't think she'd listen if you just told her that.

Solution: Put a tree in Madoka's room. :V

Mami wanted to be an idol singer, but being a Magical Girl came to take up so much time that she had to give it up. You think she could have gone far with it, too.

For those that don't know: Yes it is canon, yes we do see timelines where it happened, and yes, that's probably where her potential comes from, because she would indeed have been popular.

Choose carefully.

Actually, y'know what? Just keep doing that for the rest of the Quest. It'll probably be a good idea.

*Looks you in the eyes, roll a dice to take decision* :V

There is never going to be a good time.

Or at least, never a *perfect* time, and perfect is the enemy of done for a reason.

Hey, you know what...There is however so many Magical Girls in the library, We can just Practice dropping the Witchbomb on them! :V

We should practice on Kazumi, you know, the girl that is literally made from a witch without her memories. :V

But more seriously, telling now is a little too soon, but we may benefit from allowing her to brace, and telling her that we have something we want to talk about tomorrow:

[x] Tell Mami, Kyouko and Yuma that there is another piece of news you will want to tell them, probably tomorrow, but you are thinking on how to approach it.
-[x] Approach Homura to talk to her both about taking Madoka to Binah, and to ask her if she has advices on how to explain the origin of witches to your daughters.

Also, a little thought I had: We can also practice explaining the witchbomb on Madoka, since, you know, she is both not prone to mood swings as big as some of our daughters, and is not going to die of grief if we fumble it.

There's no real need to tell them like that.

In this might as well just vote to wait with a subvote.
Like this.
[X] Wait.
-[X] Talk to Homura and Madoka about Binah. Tell Homura that you are planning on dropping the Witch Bomb and need her assistance.

There's no reason to leave the kids in suspense, we can just tell them tomorrow morning that we have something important to tell them, with Homura assistance.

Like I don't get the rush.

Sure a perfect opportunity ain't gonna be possible, but I feel like everyone is treating it like we are going to die if we wait for the kids to sleep first before dropping another bomb on them.

[X] Resolve to tell Mami tomorrow

Same day is too soon, but I don't want this to keep getting put off. As Ace98 said, the ideal time will never arrive unless the Adult magically keels over and dies. There needs to be enough recovery time for Mami before the inevitable confrontation with the Adult.

It's too bad this could not be revealed before news of X's mortality. We still need a bit of time to settle on an approach. A group or private setting? Blunt or sugarcoated? At the very least there's two emergency release valves in the form of Carmen's Distortion Hotline and HomuraTrack 2, unideal as they may be.

Her witching out is bad.

Her distorting has the potential to be horrible for us.
Unlike distortion, even we cannot reverse a witch, at least without timehax. A fixation with protecting X can be worked with, similar to how Homura is with Madoka right now. Homura's distortion had cause to be just as unreasonable, given that X actually did die at that time.

Somehow that is oddly fitting. Though I don't think Mami will quite like how the industry treats those same idols.
... My brain is too rotten because every time I think about a teenage idol that is a magical girl I think about oh god her fans is going to be horrible because you know.
Japan....and those problems.
Anyway.
I suggest we first talk with our resident time looper about the topic and see has she done it before or not, Get experience on how to word the topic.
that and we need to have a conversation anyway. So talking with her is good. But yes, we are indeed slowly running out of time every time we delay the topic, we will need to talk about it.
And I only feel the effect of the bomb is gonna be worse every time we delay it.
We can use the topic of distortions and the nature of abnormality to slowly lead into what are the witches, since the first one is the result of a emotional Breakdown of person with a bad mental loop and the second is basically made out of dead humans.
And the first one is a thing that can potentially happen to any human on earth now, so she might be able to stomach it better? I'm...I'm really not sure I'm grasping at straws here.

[X] Tell Mami now

I'm on the fence between this and doing it tomorrow, but there's been enough delays that I'm uncomfortable letting it stew any longer.

I don't want to make a lot of subvotes, so I assume X will autopilot the obvious stuff, like getting the distortions' help and telling it to everyone who doesn't know, not just mami.

[X] Tell Mami now

I'm personally taking a gamble on what will occur as a result of this. But now or tomorrow, I would hope it gets told soon.
