Firefight
Omake - Firefight

"Enemy sighted!" said the young patrolman as two knives appeared to almost grow spontaneously out of his peepers.

The two assassins were ready much faster than the patrol team. They flew into action like Tigers out of a bush and cut apart another patrolman as a third rained fire down on us from a building. Sergeant Gritz opened up with his close range Neuron Blaster Gun killing one and injuring a private that it was trying to use as a shield. His second shot missed the second assassin as she injected her curved sickle like dagger into his temple and taking it out in short order. It was a slaughter with four dead and only myself standing with a radio across from my lips.

The last words spoken from my mouth were not of valor. They would be of warning of intruders in 545th Street by Baen Park. The assassin jumped at and knocked me on the ground as her waist collided with mines. I was briefly reminded me of my Masseuse from the Parlor I frequented. We played hard for 20 long good years but today everything was going to be put at an end. An by something I am damn sure was cross between a woman, a monster, and toaster boy.

"Enemies at 545 par-"

*The Assassins would later be found by another patrol team that was much more ready for the assassin. Her partner a Vindicare on the rooftops was killed by a counter team of Elites sent by Jane. The Callidus was shot down before she could do any more harm.*

[x] plan Welcome to Avernus!

[x] Harassment Option 3: Deploy half of your harassment forces close to landing sites. - This will allow you to start harassing the Abomination armies with significant numbers shortly after they leave the landing zone, while preserving much of your light forces for later conflicts.
[x]Write in- High harassment for the first phase, then go to medium. This takes the most advantage of our initial advantage while maintaining a better ratio.
[x] Mine Option 2: Use a Quarter of available mines- This will inflict some damage and provide some opportunities to your harassers while saving most of the mines for later use.
[x] Air Option 5: Support harassment- This will preserve the majority of your airforce while providing assistance to the forces that you have deployed in the field.

we have titan traps and +293 for the first round of harassment, so we should take advantage of that. That said, this is not a sprint so we should avoid options that too heavily limit us. I'm not so sure how to use our psykers here, and I'm leaning towards letting a lot of them rest for a day or so.

Well at least we know for now that our bonuses can make up for shitty rolls. We're not in a terrible position but thing could swing either way. Bit worried about the infiltration though.

We didn't catch all the assassins. Should we stick Ridcully on it, or is it too soon? Maybe the Last Hunters would look into it.

[x]Medium- The default option that balances damage for exchange rates and casualties.

Keep in mind that we're not limited to the option we're given. We can choose to go all-in on harassment in the first phase and then switch to a more moderate strategy right afterwards.

I'm thinking we should make a concerted effort to kill that Seer of theirs. It's probably the reason why the rolls have been as they are.

How significant is 12 Chaos Lords anyway?

they have about 30 according to the army sheet. So depending on if that's before or after those twelve got fried we get either about a quarter or about a third of them. Chaos lords are to my understanding decent combat heroes and tend to be analogous to captains in the command structure.

huh, you know it just sunk in. you know the first chaos incursion we dealt with? the sons of war I think? they were led by a typical chaos lord. We are now looking at an army that is using an old boss as almost mooks. Stuff like that is always nice because it puts in perspective how far we've come.

The Crusade had ~30 Chaos lords with them, and another ~50 in reserve according to the data sheet. As such, killing 12 of them corresponds to 33% of their current wave as well as ~15% of their total supply.

That's in one harassment turn too. While they're under wards. It was complete bullshit, but in our favor so it's okay.

Those rolls were pretty awful, though I find the last stage of the air battle really weird. We still had a higher roll than them so why was the kill ratio in their favor?

I'm also wondering what impact killing all those Landers actually had, because shouldn't millions of landers have contained a hundreds of millions of troops that didn't make it? Or at least vastly reduced their rate of landing reinforcements? We killed about 40% of the number of landers on the sheet.

Considering Scry&Fry effectiveness you gotta wonder if maybe we should like dismantle the 2nd Pyromancer Choir and plock the Primaris and Betas onto the 1st Choir.

Something to note from the last battle is that stacking two choirs onto a job doesn't seem to accomplish anything. Better to have two choirs doing two different things than two choirs working together on the same thing.

[] Lulana and the 1st Daemonology choir will focus on countering enemy psykers. (Particularly their Telepathy attacks, so our Telepaths have free reign.)
[] Tamia and 1st Telepathy choir will counter enemy Telepathy attacks.
[] 2nd Telepathy choir will aid our harassment forces with illusions and invisibility for the first round.
[] Sirens will aid our forces with illusions and invisibility.
[] Ridcully will uncover any hidden factors in the war and shut them down if possible.
[] Xavier will participate in the harassment campaign alongside the Phase-Tigers.
[] 1st Biomancy choir will boost our harassment forces.
[] 2nd Biomancy choir will malign the enemy forces.
[] A quarter of the 1st Divination choir will assist with the counter-infiltration.
[] 2nd Divination choir will assist the harassment effort for the first round.
[] Aim our electronic warfare on their sensors so our harassment forces will be harder to track.

Only a quarter of a divination choir will be needed. A roll as low as 46 was enough to get "some agents detected" and a full choir results in a bonus of 398. Having just a quarter should flush out any we missed (and warn us of more to come) while letting the majority rest.

@Durin

1. How good would the Sirens be at killing enemy psykers with their offensive telepathy?
2. How many rounds will it take for Ridcully or a Diviner choir to identify the unknown bonuses and penalties?
3. What is Valinor's plan regarding their and our psykers?
4. I think you missed my omake.
5. How good is Biomancy in the harassment phase compared to future phases?
6. The latest update said they landed in the east but the update before that said they would land in the west.
7. Can we set up ambushes composing of some of our Titans? If so, which if any of our psykers would we need to pull it off? (I say "if any" because we have 50+ Martial.)
1. not very
2. unknown
3. pretty much to overwhelm your psykers with Angyls
4. i did
5. it is best in the future phases
6. the latest update is correct, Dorthonion is to the west
7. you can, though it risks them

because they had landed enough AA to cause major damage
and you killed a lot of enemy and slowed them down, but the kills were a drop in the ocean
stacking two choirs doubles the effect but not neccecily the bonus

@Durin

1. Are the enemy Titans sufficiently daemonic that the Banishment daemonology power can be used on them?
2. Are there any important characters on the ground like the Sorcerer Lords or the Chapter Master?
also I should remind you that as well as your choirs you have 2 Primaris Execution forces
3. Can they be used in a similar way to choirs or are they exclusively for battlefield use? If they can be used as choirs, in which way is it better for them to be used?
4. Where are their psykers?
5. How exactly do they plan to overwhelm our psykers with angyls?

Few things

First the Northern Sentinel Titan Killer is pretty much designed for this kind of environment so I'd recommend that you get them out and harassing their titans with diviner support.

Second I'd ask how likely it would be that Xavier and Co could scry and fry the main general if they focus on him.

Third I think the Execution Forces are supposed to be like mini titan legions, I'll check.

@Durin
1. If they focus on doing it, maybe with Lulana's support to break down the wards does Xavier and Ridcully think they could scry and fry the main general?
2. How powerful are Execution forces? Before you buffed psyker power I recall you saying that they were like a Titan legion due to the number and skill of betas and other powerful psykers. Is that still the case?
3. Have the astartes not made any attempts at landing yet?

The Chaos Lords just got updated.

I'm wondering exactly what sort of defences the Abomination can muster up against Scry and Fry, actually.

@Durin

1. What do the Abomination Plans say on Scry-and-Fry?
a. If it isn't in their plans.. they literally can't adapt to counter them, can they?
