Magical Girl Quest - The Fire That Burns

Yay another magic girl.

[X] Tell her the truth, that you think she is a Magical Girl.
I think Karen can be considerate or at last smart enough to not stress her directly.
If she is not it's better to learn that now so we can begin planing how to leave.

Regarding XP I like Infinity Edge and Plate Armor.
Infinity Edge for the extra action and Plate Armour because our squishiness is the the teams main weakness.
But we should still save a good amount of XP.
Being able to spend XP to get just what we need for a given mission is very valuable.

I hope thats not true because its +20,000 Invulnerable Body means Juggernaut Wave was the only thing we had that could hurt it.
Ya it had more defense then Hp.
I should probably mention that any hit that didn't strike it's tail procced a +20,000 Resilience boost because it's legend specifies that only it's tail can be hurt.
Of course, you just bulldozed over the boost with more magic.

But we did hit it's tall. We hit it's whole zip code.

EDIT: This reminds me that the "something soon" invisitext likely meant the Peluda could have given us an achievement.

But we took the easy way out and one shotted it, so no achievement for us and the XP gain was very low compared to what we could have gotten.

Honestly? Dropping the Peluda on us in such a situation, when our tank was close to collapsing from tiredness and we had no way of doing significant damage outside of one-shotting the thing? Plus there was an unknown in this, likely some normal person who managed to survive thus far and would have died in the crossfire?

I mean, I would have gone for the normal approach if we had gone into this on slightly more favourable terms... but not like this. That would have only gotten us killed.

To be fair, exhaustion doesn't matter to Daiyu when fighting alongside Cerys. Unrelenting cancels body modifiers.

Although I get what you mean. I would have liked to kill it properly too, instead of one shotting it, but I understand we don't have that luxury.

Good point, although we had yet to see this actually at work... and I really did not want to find out that her magic bullshit has a limit in such a fight.

Plus, we had no idea about the tail. That would have brought another sea of troubles.

Tail is mentioned in the actual Legend of the Peluda.
As is a bunch of other stuff.

I am aware, but I doubt anyone would have checked. And I doubt that Cerys would have checked, either.
So unless someone helpfully points it out (guess they forgot it over the time-constraints there), we would not have known in-character.

Besides... curbstomping a legendary creature is just as impressive as beating it in a long battle.
At least in my opinion.
"Beat the creature in a battle that lasted for hours" does of course have a certain ring to it... but "Brought it low with but a single strike" is good as well.

Um... did you just write that down because I was mentioning something? Or was that planned anyway?
Because it gives me all those weird vibes that make suspect the former... and I am pretty sure I do not like that...

Kind of both?

It's a fair achievement, I think you deserve it.

Okay then. If I made a fair point, that is alright.

I just do not like this feeling that we only get something because I am arguing about it without actually getting the point across.
And... no offense, but you usually use this clipped style of just noting something not quite fitting when you are miffed. At least from what I observed.

I'm writing the next chapter while I talk to you, so I didn't bother writing a big explanation as to why I gave it to you.
I'm not mad.

Neither am I, just explaining my reasoning as well.
It is still hard to notice when all I have to evaluate your mood on is text... and I am generally not that good at it.

SMUG
You press your lips together as you think about your response, you can't see lying helping here, but you don't want Karen trying to pressure the girl to join us as quickly as she had you two. "I think she might be a magical girl, or something similar."

Karen makes an interested noise and tilts her head. "You think?"

You brush a hair out of your face as you nod. "Yes, I'm not sure. She doesn't feel like Daiyu does, but that might be because of something else. I'm pretty sure though, she has a transformation and everything."

She taps her finger on something out of screen, nodding to herself for a moment. "Alright, this has never happened before, so we can't make assumptions about this. Three Magical Girls..." She stares of into the distance, idly taking a sip. "As far as we know, the previous maximum at once was two, for three to exist at the same time means something is up. Especially with our... perilous situation."

You grunt in affirmation, but don't say anything. She lets the silence rest for a while longer before shaking her head. "Alright, unless you have any objections, the plan will be to let you rest for a day, then return here. I'll talk to her when you get here."

You let out a snort at that, shaking your head. "No, you are going to give her a couple of days to rest before you start sinking your hooks into her." She blinks at little at your statement, pursing her lips as she stares at you. Eventually she nods, acceding to your demands, though you notice she didn't verbally agree. Not used to someone actually standing up to you?

You cast a look over at the girl. She was tiny, her bloodstained form sleeping uneasily, sword still clutched in her hands. You could just about make out fading tear tracks moving down her cheeks, nearly hidden in the dim lighting of the room.

Looks like someone's gotta. "Anything else?"

She shakes her head, a good quarter of her face disconnecting from the rest as it lags. "No." She lets a moment pass. "But I suspect you will want to talk when you get back."

You move off of your seat, towards the screen. You lean down at the camera, reaching a hand around the back, staring straight into the lens. "Oh yes." You yank the cable just as you finish your sentence, making the call cut out. A big smile comes to your face as you do a little fist pump. Fuck yes, that must have looked awesome.

The man who had guided you to this room knocks before entering, giving you a moment to pick up your passengers before leading you on towards the VIP room. Do all bases have one of these? Not that I'm complaining mind you.

You set Daiyu down on the bed, prying her clingy arms off of you, then lying the other girl down on a separate bed that has been dragged into the room. The situation is so like your little sister that you contemplate undressing her and tucking her in before your common sense catches up to you. Bad thoughts bad thoughts.

You shake your head, finally letting your armour disperse as you crawl under your bedsheets. The second you lie down, Daiyu has already grabbed you, dragging you closer and curling around your back. It feels a little strange to be on this end of it for once, but the events of the past couple of days hit you all at once.

It's warm.

You shift a little, to get comfortable, quietly enjoying the heat coming from Daiyu.

I'd forgotten what that felt like.

She gently murmurs something in your ear as you close your eyes.

This is nice...

/LINE BREAK\

You are the first to wake in the morning, Daiyu is still dead to the world, though no-one told her arms that apparently. Once you had managed to pry her off of you, not that you lied there for a while and enjoyed it, you didn't, you got out of bed. The girl was still sleeping, though she apparently shifted in her sleep and kicked her sheets off of herself. You layer them back over to her and leave for a bath.

When you return, you see the sheets half way across the room and her looking around in a panic, her transformation flickering along her skin as she hyperventilates. You step closer, holding up your hands and speaking clearly in English. "Hey, calm down, you are safe here."

Her eyes shoot to you, sword half-drawn, orange light flickering along it's edge. She takes a step backwards, right next to a sleeping Daiyu's head. You can see what happens next in slow motion, Daiyu's eyes snap open, hand racing towards the sword dangling right next to her. Her armoured hand grabs the bare edge, pulling it towards her with all of her strength.

It is pulled from the hysterical girls hands without issue, nearly pulling her from her feet. You move in quickly, grabbing her by the shoulders and pinning her arms to her sides. She struggles, but even without magic you are that much stronger than her that it isn't really an issue.

She eventually calms down somewhat, staring up at you with wide eyes as she stops shaking, fidgeting on the spot as you stare down at her. God she is tiny.

"Y-you..." She shifts her jaw for a moment, starting in French before speaking English. "Let me go you shit!" She starts struggling again, surprising you, but not enough to actually let her go.

"Will you try and attack me?"

She make a straining noise as she tries to free her arms before giving up, staring up at you panting from exertion. She tests your grip a little more, pouting when she can't move you. "Fine, I won't attack you." You look at her doubtfully, she was a terrible liar. "I promise." This time she was much more smooth, but you'd still seen better.

"Uh-huh." You raise your eyebrows, it not like she could actually hurt you anyway. "Don't do anything stupid." You let go of her and she steps back, rubbing her arms from your tight grip. Daiyu hands you her sword, edge still sharp despite her grip. You move an eye over it, appreciating the blade before you slide it back into the holster. I'll keep this to myself for now. She could probably just make another sword like you could, but better to play it safe for now.

"Hey." She looks away from rubbing her arms and stares at you with her strangely ringed eyes. I guess that isn't a transformation thing? "What's your name?"

She stays silent for a while, thinking about her answer before answering. "I am Sabina Petit" That is... uh... Woman Small? Small Woman? One of those. You look at her tiny stature. Appropriate, she must barely be five foot at most.

[x] Don't question her right now, give her some time to calm down.
[x] when she's calmed down some ask her if she has anything she'd like to ask.

figure we owe her answers more than the other way around.

This was probably the best we could hope for.

And... somehow, I can not stop myself from thinking that even while Karen is annoyed with what Cerys was doing there, some part of her cheers that someone actually puts her foot down for a change.

Sabina is... well. No idea yet.
And of course Daiyu snaps up to full attention from being asleep... such a reliable companion.

You brush a hair out of your face as you nod. "Yes, I'm not sure. She doesn't feel like Daiyu does, but that might be because of something else. I'm pretty sure though, she has a transformation and everything."
Either because she is not part of Cerys' team, or because she is not from Gaia.
Probably the latter.

Anyway... I suggest thusly:

[X] Question
-[X] How about breakfast?

[X] Go get breakfast and introduce yourself; give her some time to calm down
-[X] Once you are done, ask her if she has any injuries left
-[X] If there is nothing else coming up, ask her to tell you what happened
--[X] Do not press if she does not want to talk about it
--[X] Answer questions she has as best as you can

Instead of asking for specifics, we should just ask for her part of the story; that ought to do more than trying to press on minor points and make her shut us out.
