Magical Girl Quest - The Fire That Burns

I just have bad memories of votes getting horrendously convoluted

Hm... I know what you mean.

In my opinion, the important thing is to keep a balance between long and short; do not take in anything you do not need for a good reason, but do not leave out anything that might be important for the character.

In fact, I think I need to clean up my first version a bit... it is a little convoluted as is, but most of the points are important.

Edit: Although the lines about chatting with Morgan are mostly for Rukia to work with instead of having to come up with everything by themselves.

So, here is Vote v.2:

[X] Just take the name; Infinity Edge is as good as any

[X] Chat with Morgan and unwind some more from that workout-session; use the time to ask a few questions, too
-[X] How long has she been with the Clocktower?
-[X] How does she usually spend her free time?

[X] Now that you think about it, you take up a lot of her time recently; ask Morgan if that is really okay
-[X] If she does not mind, invite her along for what you want to do next

[X] You want to find out your Affinities... and maybe talk to Karen a little more
-[X] See if Karen is free
--[X] If yes, go talk to her and thank her for the effort she is making for you
---[X] Chat a little bit; you are curious how she manages to look this young... even though the answer will probably be "Magic" or "It's a secret~"
---[X] Bring up your Affinities and that Morgan mentioned she could tell you

--[X] If no, find this James person and introduce yourself
---[X] Chat a bit, but keep it short if he seems overly busy; if he has some time, ask what his work is about and if he has any cool stuff he can show you
---[X] Then bring up your Affinities and that Morgan mentioned he could tell you.

[X] If Morgan is still with you, have her decide how to spend the rest of the day
-[X] Ask Una, too; you just kept pulling those two around

The only real changes I put in are in that big block of interaction; cleaned up a bit to reduce it by a few lines. I can not make it any shorter because these are two branches and each needs those two lines... but...
I could change it around so that we go talk to James either way to introduce ourselves, but only bring up the Affinities if Karen had no time for us? Any thoughts on that matter?

"I think I prefer Infinity or Infinity Edge though." She uses edge a lot, also your not sure why she uses Infinity, but it sounds right.
Huh. It just clicked why "Edge" is also a good choice.

It obviously means "the sharpened side of the blade of a cutting implement or weapon", but it can also mean "the outside limit of an object, area, or surface; a place or part farthest away from the center of something."
The affinity of Infinity is the pinnacle (i.e. the most successful point; the culmination) of the mastery of both our affinities, that is to say, Beginning and End.

Just to poke you guys with a question.

If you stay safe and train, you will grow pretty slowly.
If you go out and fight a lot, you will grow much faster.

Thoughts?

Honestly, Cerys' trust in Karen and Morgan is quite probably very fragile and easily broken, we'll probably have to deal with years of mistrust before Cerys can -fully trust- anyone but her sis. Understandably with what she and her sister have been though. I'm pretty suprised she had so little reaction to Morgan putting her in the situation she did with Karen.

I know that people say that training is no substitute for experience, but while that is accurate on some levels, it is inaccurate on many others. Training and experience are both equally necessary, especially when it comes to life or death like combat.

If I were doing it, I would have training give the same exp (or whatever) as combat initially, but diminishing returns in the long run.

On the other hand, I have this mental image.

Cerys: Where can I go find some monsters to beat up?
Karen: Why do you want to know this...
Cerys: Training.
Karen: o_O

Training doesn't give you xp, it gives you skill.
ATM you have atrocious skill with your sword and hand-to-hand.
This ^ is something that is going to take years of practice to fix, you learn fast, enough to become inhumanly good within a decade or so but you don't have any 'MG instinct' guiding you to learn faster like Nepgear.

Hand to Hand
Competent. No modifier in combat.
You know how to throw a punch.

Bladed Weaponry
Barely Competent. -50% modifier in combat.
You know enough not to cut yourself.

Question, is this just about the Skills or also about our spells and Abilities?

Fair enough, I think my point still stands though. Training should give the same skill growth or even more skill growth than fighting at low levels, but have diminishing returns as you go up the ranks.

I can see training itself yielding smaller results at some point... but honestly, we depend on others to find targets for us to fight, so this would be arbitrary slowing down a process that is already slow to begin with... and probably resolved via chance anyway.

So... maybe put in some boundaries for the growth?

What I just thought of would be as follows:

Boundary 1: Learning something new and training it up to Level 10 (?)
-grows a little faster from guided exercises or just general exercising (depends on what it is), as Cerys gets a feeling for how it works

Boundary 2: Above Level 10 and below Level 25
-grows slower from training/exercising and faster from actually using it in combat... or wherever else applicable. This would be the initial steps being done and Cerys requiring actual hard 'practice'.

Boundary 3: Above Level 25
-does not grow from just exercising, has to be actually used to increase at normal speed

Something like this, maybe? And something in the same vein for Skills, seeing that the first steps are usually the easiest and mastery is the hardest.
Basically what @Spectral Waltz said.

Mmm...
Level 25 is mid tier strength.

This is already roughly how the system works.
You can do 1-10 pretty fast with both xp and training, as seen by your forest escapades.

You can gain some progress by training at 25+, but it'll level pretty slowly anyway.
You do level abilities in combat too, without xp, it's basically training *1.5

Are we going to train our abilities tomorrow IC?

If so, since we're not the tank of the team, I suggest we prioritize finishing learning Flight: it would improve our mobility which will circumvent our lack of durability.

So your question was just about the Skills after all, I guess.
What I mean was that you should just... put the boundaries somewhere.

Let me just steal the names from CW for a visualisation...

Basically, Nepgear started with "Unskilled" as well, just like Cerys. She got training and went to "Skilled". [I am aware that this is not really about her swordsmanship, but it fits for what I want to express!]
Now Skilled would probably be a good base for the first boundary; up to this point, Cerys should learn rather fast, especially when under supervision of someone who knows the craft.

After this, it is a matter of natural skill and lots of work. Considering that we started with crap skills, our natural skill at swording is No.

So the second boundary should either sit after "Master Skill" or "Inhuman Skill", where Sega and Red Rose are respectively. Up to this point we can still go with training, maybe a little faster with a teacher, but to diminishing returns. Just applying our knowledge in battle would be more useful at this point.

And behind the second boundary lies the path to whatever Goddess Grey has, which would take the longest to reach and not benefit from exercising at all.

Those were basically my thoughts.

I already have a training-vote written up in my notes and Flight is in it.
